She was built in England by Solaris and is an ocean-going sloop-rigged catamaran. This Solaris is hull #48. The owners purchased this Solaris in 1995 and have owned her for 25 years. The husband loves how well built the Solaris is, how well she sails and that she sails smoothly without leaning.

Rare Find in USA,Pack your Supplies & She's Ready to Go! This 1976 Solaris 42 is a Cruising Catamaran Sailboat. She was built in England by Solaris and is an ocean-going sloop-rigged catamaran. This Solaris is hull #48. The owners purchased this Solaris in 1995 and have owned her for 25 years. The husband loves how well built the Solaris is, how well she sails and that she sails smoothly without leaning. He reports his catamaran has held up in storms and is technically unsinkable. She is a glorious boat to live on. This Solaris is powered by twin 2003 Volvo Penta MD2030 30 HP, 3 cylinder diesel engines when not under sail. There are 1,200 hours on each engine. The 2-75 gallon fuel tanks have a fuel polishing system. Four 55-watt and 30-watt solar panels and a Morningstar controller run the boat indefinitely. When you go below, you're greeted by the warm, rich woodwork throughout the large salon. There are two facing L-shaped settees forming an almost continuous horseshoe-shaped conversation and entertainment area. A fixed dinette table folds out for meals. The owner has made parts to convert the settee into 2 berths for additional sleeping. Surrounding the salon are built-in bookshelves, a glass rack, and sliding bulkhead panels that open the salon to the navigation station port side and galley starboard side. The Solaris has 4 double berth cabins paired with a mirrored vanity and seat each with abundant storage. The port hull has a forward cabin with a navigation station between the cabins. The aft cabin is on the other side of the port head. The starboard hull has a forward cabin on one side of the galley. The aft cabin is on the other side of the starboard head compartment with a bathtub. Precisiontemp on-demand water heater is always ready for a relaxing bath after a full day of sailing. A long galley offers more than adequate counter space for food preparation. A wall of storage cabinets and drawers on the salon side provides plenty of storage. A Force 10 three-burner propane stove with oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, and cutting board. There is also a Solaris built-in freezer cabinet 6 cu ft with Waeco 12v freezer. The deck is spacious and relaxing with a large built-in seating big enough to take a nap. A folding cockpit seat opens up the cockpit space. The owner is including with the purchase of the Solaris 3 additional shade awnings, swim ladder, scuba equipment, and many spare tools. A true blue-water cruising catamaran just in from the Caribbean.  SOLAR QUEST was built in England under Lloyds supervision and specification and was designed for comfort and safety at sea with a center-cockpit and ketch rig.  She has many cruising miles under her keels with many more left to sail.  Spacious with a well thought-out interior, abundant storage, loads of deck space, solar panels, water maker and dinghy she is ready to set sail again.

Solar Quest has a large main salon with plenty of headroom and seating.  A U-shaped  seating area with centerline table provides ample area for lounging or entertaining.  Built-in shelving and storage for wine and glasses surround the seating area with a large flat screen TV mounted to the aft bulkhead.  Sliding mirrored bulkhead panels open into the forward cabins.  Four cabins with queen-sized berths provide spacious accommodations with forward and aft cabins and large heads on port and starboard.

The galley is mid-ships on starboard with tasteful Corian countertops, double stainless steel sink, hot and cold pressure water, Force 10 4 burner LPG stove/oven, microwave oven and ample storage cupboards.

The nav station is located on the port side just forward of the aft cabin with storage underneath.  Midships is a workspace with large storage compartments underneath for spare parts.

Selling well below market value this Solaris 42 is well worth throwing some money at! Where would you find another ocean going catamaran at this price anywhere? We have had many enquiries and answered lots of questions and nobody has taken the trouble to view the boat so far. The boat is a good 8 hour drive from us and is located about an hour drive from Seville Airport in a river estuary in Libreria Welba so we are not going to get much chance ourselves to take more pictures. The owner lives in Madrid and it is difficult for him to get to the boat also. A brief description ,we can give and have been told that all electrics are working and the sails are in good condition. The teak decks are not in great shape, but the owner thinks that it would be ok to refurbish them rather than complete replacement. The owner claims that the boat is mainly in need of minor repairs and refurbishment of wood railings, some of the rubber seals from the cockpit windows, a good clean and tidying inside and out.One of the water tanks is in need of replacement and the new one is available with the boat and just needs fitting The Engines last time serviced around 1 year ago, both engines were replaced in 2003, and not used very much since then. In all this cat does not seem a bad deal so I feel if you are looking for a large reasonably well equipped catamaran that needs some work you would not be making a bad decision to hop on a plane and check it out before someone else does!

Brand: Solaris

Solaris catamarans were built in the South Hampton UK Yards, a well known quality shipbuilding comunity, from 1974 to 2000. These catamarans have a great reputation for stability, safety and efficient use of space.

There were different designers for various of the Solaris catamarans. The original Solaris 42 and Sunrise 36 were bespoke designs by British naval architect Terry Compton. The later Sunstream 40 was developed from the Cherokee 35 (designed by J.R. (Rod) Macalpine-Downie). The Sunstar 36 and 32 were pulled from molds to a couple of Eric Lerouge’s designs.
