Our boat, AlyKat, is a 41-foot  catamaran  sailboat that can accommodate up to 6 people  for a day sail. One full-sized guest cabin can accommodate up to 2 guests for multiple-day and overnight sails.

Whether you want to explore destinations away from Newport, or you want to keep Newport as your vacation base, we can customize all trips to suit your needs and destinations wishes. If you want to learn how to sail a catamaran or learn general seamanship I will tailor the sail to be a great learning experience.

Newport Charter Yacht Show To Be Held June 23-26, 2024 at Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard

The Newport Charter Yacht Show, held annually in picturesque downtown Newport, R.I., will be held June 23-26, 2024 at Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard. For charter yachts who plan to spend the summer in New England, the Newport Charter Show is the perfect way to kick-off their season in the northeast. Over 100 charter brokers attend the show, which will feature sailing and motor vessels ranging in size from 50 to 200+ feet. The show is open exclusively to charter yacht brokers, agents, and industry professionals. Registration is now open online: www.newportchartershow.com

“2024 looks to be another exciting and busy season for yachts heading to Newport,” said Michael Millerick, general manager of Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard, a premier superyacht marina and shipyard in the northeast. “This summer’s yachting and special event schedule is packed with many great events including the TP52 Super Series regatta; Newport to Bermuda Race; USGA Senior Open Championship at Newport Country Club; Newport Flower Show at Rosecliff Mansion; Safe Harbor Race Weekend; and many more high-profile events that are sure to attract yacht owners and charter guests from around the world,” Millerick said.

Cameron and his crew helped to make my birthday weekend celebration great. Hurricane Dorian left Newport just in time for all 18 of us to enjoy a relaxing 2 1/2hr cruise around the harbor. We brought our own food and additional beverages and the crew took care of presenting everything to everyone and making sure everyone was relaxed and enjoying their time. The beanbags were key to a very comfortable and fun time. Hope to come back next year to Newport and would book Heron in a heartbeat!

Boarding : A crew member of Heron will meet you at the security gate to escort you and your guests to the boat as a group, at Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard, 1 Washington Street, Newport, RI.

What we have aboard : Captain and crew provide all the necessary accommodations for a comfortable cruise: signature cocktails, ice, water, tea, coffee, drinkware (no glass), and blankets for comfort. Towels are the only essentials that you will need to bring. 

Weather : We’re constantly watching the weather and will make sure that if a cancellation is necessary. Captain McLellan will determine if a charter shall be cancelled due to unpleasant weather. Guests have the option to reschedule in the remaining weeks or again next year.

Family friendly : Heron was originally built for a family to sail around the world. Her interior is extremely comfortable and safe, cool and shaded, with room to sit on the couch with the babe or do a puzzle. There’s a private stateroom available for nursing, and a perfect nook for the baby to nap within site while you relax on deck with the other guests. The beauty of sailing on a catamaran is it’s completely stable. The captain can easily put Heron in irons (keep her at a standstill) to allow for more comfortable maneuverability when needed for older guests.

Restrooms, changing rooms & Heron merchandise : There is a bathroom (Head) and there are two staterooms available for changing. We sell Heron Hoodies, Caps, Tee shirts, and Buffs onboard..

The Charter : Heron takes you on a tour of all the sites of Newport - leaves Safe Harbor Newport Shipyard, passes Fort Adams heading south toward Castle Hill, anchors up in Mackerel Cove for paddle boards and swimming then to Jamestown and back by Goat Island through Fort Adams, ending with a "Harbor Burn” around all the Newport yachts. Provisions : Heron provide its signature Heron Rum Punch on board. We also have plenty of cooler space and the ability to keep food warm. You are welcome to bring anything you would like (except red wine) and our crew will serve you and your guests throughout your charter. Chef'd hors d'oeuvres by Leslie Streuli, cooking for private clients for 20 years. Launched from the test kitchen at Saveur Magazine, Leslie's boutique catering company in Newport, RI has served clieints from business magnates, celebrities and yacht crews. She specializes in intimate dinner parties and exclusive cocktail gatherings and enjoys crafting creative menus alongside her clients. Captain Cameron McLellan has been Heron's catamaran Captain for 12 years. Cameron has sailed extensively across the world, including the Gulf of Maine, George's Banks, Grand Banks, Newfoundland, Iceland, Norway, Kodiak Alaska, Dutch Harbor, Chile, Bermuda, Caribbean, and Trinidad.

Proceeds from the auction will support the  Jeffrey Osborne Foundation , since 2012 serving to build positive relationships by supporting  St. Mary's Home for Children & Family Services ,  The Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence  and  Button Hole ; keep music and the arts in public schools, by supporting the  Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School  and its Community Partners including the  Met School , and provide food, shelter and a safe-haven for families and children in need in the Ocean State, by supporting the  Amos House , Rhode Island’s largest Soup Kitchen. We are happy to put the anchor down for swimming, paddle boarding, and lounging on the Lilypad. This yacht is the perfect mix of luxury, sailing, and relaxation.

There is a bathroom, and there are staterooms available for changing. Boat was originally built for a family to sail around the world. Her interior is comfortable, safe, cool, and shaded, with room to sit on the couch. The beauty of sailing on a catamaran is it’s completely stable.
