Guest Accommodation

Built in 1988, Wind of Change offers guest accommodation for up to 6 guests in 3 suites comprising a master suite, one VIP cabin and one twin cabin. There are 4 beds in total, including 2 doubles and 2 singles. She is also capable of carrying up to 4 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Whatever your activities on your charter, you'll find some impressive features are seamlessly integrated to help you, particularly Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing you to stay connected at all times, should you wish. Guests will experience complete comfort while chartering thanks to air conditioning.

Performance & Range

Wind of Change is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Wind of Change comfortably cruises at 9 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 13 knots.

Set against the backdrop of your chosen cruising ground, you and your guests can enjoy fun on the water with the collection of water toys and accessories aboard Wind of Change. Principle among these are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. In addition there are wakeboards so guests can show off at speed. If that isn't enough Wind of Change also features scuba diving equipment, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. When it's time to travel from land to see, it couldn't be easier with a 3.6m/11'10" Tender.

S/Y Wind of Change is a beautiful classic sailing yacht 29m sloop built by Brooke Marine in 1988, refitted in 2018.  Her sophisticated exterior design and sailing supremacy are the work of Ron Holland Design. She provides stability and seaworthiness while sailing offering to all guests onboard a supreme sailing experience. She accommodates up to 6 guests in 3 elegant cabins, including one master, one VIP and one twin cabin, all with ensuite facilities.  Wind of Change’s well-equipped deck offers ample space for relaxation, sunbathing and al fresco dinning which is ideal for gatherings of family and friends.   During her latest refit in 2018 the carpets were removed and the wooden floors were restored in all interior areas. All fabrics in the saloon and dining area as well as in al fresco dining area are replaced with RALPH LAUREN. She has new cutlery and  linen, and  brand new water toys are dedicated to guests' fun. Her professional crew consisting of 4 members, a fantastic sailing team who ensures an enjoyable and unique sailing experience.

CAPTAIN - Thodoris Boukas Captain Thodoris is Greek born in 1960. He is an experienced and professional Captain holding a Captain’s license and has all the qualifications for his position. Thodoris has a vast experience and has coverd more than 150.000 nm across Mediterranean, North and Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean. He has participated in races and has executed transatlantic voyages. He started his career in 1989 as a captain on sailing yachts and he has offered his services onboard S/Y Astra, S/Y Solaria, S/Y Maid Marian II and S/Y Halcyon among others. Captain Thodoris is also an education curator and instructor of the Corfu Yacht Club since 2012. He is a very active and pleasant person who puts all his efforts to satisfy the guests. He has extensive knowledge of the Greek coastlines and loves having guests on board, showing them hidden spots and anchorages and going on great sails. His attention to detail, diligence and positive attitude will ensure that guests are having an unforgettable experience onboard S/Y Wind of Change. Thodoris speaks English. CHEF - Jason Batsalias Jason is a Greek national and holds a Chef’s diploma from the “Le Monde” institute of culinary art in Athens. He is also studying Psychology. He has attended many seminars such as “Greek Olives and Olive oil production and tasting”, “Wine production & tasting”, “Modern Greek Techniques”, “Thai Food” and “Fitness and Food”. He has started his carrier in various restaurants and hotels in Greece and in 2019 he moved to London to expand his culinary experience. There he worked at restaurants “Eat Vietnam”, “Santorini” Greek restaurant and Michelin awarded “Norma” gaining deep knowledge of different cuisines. He has a passion for cooking and he produces exceptional dishes with fresh local ingredients which can satisfy the most demanding guests. Jason speaks English. STEWARDESS - Josephine Helen Armeni Josephine was born in 1988 and she is Greek. She has studied Music. She has been working in hospitality industry for more than 10 years and before joining Wind of Change in 2023 she served on board various sailing yachts. Josephine is responsible for the interior of the vessel and for providing superior service to meet guests’ expectations. She has excellent communication skills and she is a great team player. She is a valuable crew member and with her welcoming and friendly personality takes good care of the guests onboard Wind of Change. She speaks English. ABLE SEAMAN - Lilian Maritoi Lilian was born in 1979; he loves the sea and holds a speedboat license. He joined Wind of Change in 2015 and he has all the necessary certificates as an able seaman. Lilian is always active and full of energy to motivate guests in all sea activities. He hopes to make your stay unique and is always on hand with a smile. He speaks English, Greek and Russian. His hobbies are fishing, scuba diving, water sports and cinema.

Saloon + Dining area as well as the exterior dining area are equipped with the Entertainment System. Music can play directly from a CD, radio station, even connect your smartphone through an auxiliary cable (headphones plug).  This entertainment system has the power to playonly in the interior or only in the exterior or both at the same time.

You can also have access and enjoy a high-speed mobile internet in all areas of the yacht, because there are 2 different Wi-Fi Networks depending on the location.

In addition, the entertainment system has a 32” TV accompanied by a Playstation 3. There are multiple gaming options (NBA, FIFA etc). A hard disk has plenty of movies for all taste (children’s movies) and a large range.

She has new cutlery and  linen, and  brand new water toys are dedicated to guests' fun. 1. All cabins are equipped with their own music player system capable of playing music CDs and local radio stations. 2. Saloon + Dining area as well as the exterior dining area is equipped with an Entertainment system that can play music directly from a CD, radio station of even connect your smartphone through Auxiliary cable (headphones plug). This entertainment system has the power to play the music either only in the interior or only in the exterior or even both exterior and interior dining areas at the same time. 3. On the exterior aft deck of the yacht there are very large speakers (1km range) where you can play again your own music through the AUX cable, place a CD or even the radio with the additional use of a high tech DJ console.Bluetooth portable speaker BOSE. 4. As for the WIFI You can have access and enjoy a high speed mobile internet in all areas of the Yacht, choosing between 2 different Wi-Fi Networks depending on the location. 5. In addition, the entertainment system is provided with a 32” TV accompanied by a Playstation 3 with multiple gaming options (NBA, FIFA etc), a hard disk with plenty of movies for all taste (childrens movies as well) and a large range of music CDs and DVDs to enjoy on board.

CAPTAIN - Thodoris Boukas Captain Thodoris is Greek born in 1960. He is an experienced and professional Captain holding a Captain’s license and has all the qualifications for his position. Thodoris has a vast experience and has coverd more than 150.000 nm across Mediterranean, North and Baltic Sea and Atlantic Ocean. He has participated in races and has executed transatlantic voyages. He started his career in 1989 as a captain on sailing yachts and he has offered his services onboard S/Y Astra, S/Y Solaria, S/Y Maid Marian II and S/Y Halcyon among others. Captain Thodoris is also an education curator and instructor of the Corfu Yacht Club since 2012. He is a very active and pleasant person who puts all his efforts to satisfy the guests. He has extensive knowledge of the Greek coastlines and loves having guests on board, showing them hidden spots and anchorages and going on great sails. His attention to detail, diligence and positive attitude will ensure that guests are having an unforgettable experience onboard S/Y Wind of Change. Thodoris speaks English. CHEF - Jason Batsalias Jason is a Greek national and holds a Chef’s diploma from the “Le Monde” institute of culinary art in Athens. He is also studying Psychology. He has attended many seminars such as “Greek Olives and Olive oil production and tasting”, “Wine production & tasting”, “Modern Greek Techniques”, “Thai Food” and “Fitness and Food”. He has started his carrier in various restaurants and hotels in Greece and in 2019 he moved to London to expand his culinary experience. There he worked at restaurants “Eat Vietnam”, “Santorini” Greek restaurant and Michelin awarded “Norma” gaining deep knowledge of different cuisines. He has a passion for cooking and he produces exceptional dishes with fresh local ingredients which can satisfy the most demanding guests. Jason speaks English. STEWARDESS– Josephine Helen Armeni Josephine was born in 1988 and she is Greek. She has studied Music. She has been working in hospitality industry for more than 10 years and before joining Wind of Change in 2023 she served on board various sailing yachts. Josephine is responsible for the interior of the vessel and for providing superior service to meet guests’ expectations. She has excellent communication skills and she is a great team player. She is a valuable crew member and with her welcoming and friendly personality takes good care of the guests onboard Wind of Change. She speaks English. ABLE SEAMAN – Lilian Maritoi Lilian was born in 1979; he loves the sea and holds a speedboat license. He joined Wind of Change in 2015 and he has all the necessary certificates as an able seaman. Lilian is always active and full of energy to motivate guests in all sea activities. He hopes to make your stay unique and is always on hand with a smile. He speaks English, Greek and Russian. His hobbies are fishing, scuba diving, water sports and cinema.

Captain Thodoris is also an education curator and instructor of the Corfu Yacht Club since 2012. <br /> He is a very active and pleasant person who puts all his efforts to satisfy the guests. He has started his carrier in various restaurants and hotels in Greece and in 2019 he moved to London to expand his culinary experience. Since his return to Greece in 2008 and until now he has offered his services onboard S/Y Callisto, S/Y Spindrift, S/Y Niki S among others. <br /> He is a very active and pleasant person who puts all his efforts to satisfy the guests. Most expenses are deducted from an Advance Provisioning Allowance (APA), a fund that is added on top of the charter price. The expenses, such as provisioning, fuel, marina fees, are deducted from the APA. The APA is based on the price of the yacht and ranges from 15% (crewed sailing yachts) to 30% (motor yachts with higher fuel consumption). You can actively control these expenses in your preference sheet (local vs. imported beverages) and by choice of itinerary (distances traveled). Captain Evangelos Chatzigiannakoudis , Greek, was born in 1976. He is an experienced and professional Captain with a Captain’s license from the Merchant Marine Academy of Aspropyrgos. Some of his qualifications include:

• H.N.D. in Oceanography with Marine Biology as well as an H.N.D. in Marine and Composites Technology, both from the University of Plymouth in the UK
• RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore diploma
• Skipper’s license
• Certified Surf instructor by the British Surfing Association
• Lifeguard’s License and Surf Rescue – R.N.L.I.
• Experience approximately 40,000 miles on sailing yachts of various sizes.

Captain Evangelos is friendly and outgoing. He has extensive knowledge of the Greek coastlines and loves having guests on board, showing them hidden spots and anchorages. He also loves to hoist the sails and let guests feel the exhilaration of traveling swiftly over the water.

Chef Katerina Tounta has 20 years of experience in various restaurants and yachts. She has attended many cooking and patisserie seminars at the Professional Chef Institute. Furthermore, her cooking style uses the finest fresh ingredients with authentic traditional aromas and tastes of famous Greek and Mediterranean cuisine.

Stewardess Pandora Vouga , Greek, has worked in the yacht industry since 2003. Her pleasant personality, professionalism, and experience make her a valuable crew member.

A cargo ship’s ‘WindWing’ sails saved it up to 12 tons of fuel per day

After six months sailing around the world, the numbers are in for the retrofitted ‘Pyxis Ocean.’

A shipping vessel left China for Brazil while sporting some new improvements last August—a pair of 123-feet-tall, solid “wings” retrofitted atop its deck to harness wind power for propulsion assistance. But after its six-week maiden voyage testing the green energy tech, the Pyxis Ocean MC Shipping Kamsarmax vessel apparently had many more trips ahead of it. Six months later, its owners at the shipping company, Cargill, shared the results of those journeys this week—and it sounds like the vertical WindWing sails could offer a promising way to reduce existing vessels’ emissions.

Using the wind force captured by its two giant, controllable sails to boost its speed, Pyxis Ocean reportedly saved an average of 3.3 tons of fuel each day. And in optimal weather conditions, its trips through portions of the Indian, Pacific, and Atlantic Oceans reduced fuel consumption by over 12 tons a day. According to Cargill’s math, that’s an average of 14 percent less greenhouse gas emissions from the ship. On its best days, Pyxis Ocean could cut that down by 37 percent. In all, the WindWing’s average performance fell within 10 percent ts designers’ computational fluid dynamics simulation predictions.

In total, an equally sized ship outfitted with two WindWings could annually save the same amount of emissions as removing 480 cars from roads—but that could even be a relatively conservative estimate, according to WindWing’s makers at BAR Technologies.

“[W]hile the Pyxis Ocean has two WindWings, we anticipate the majority of Kamsarmax vessels will carry three wings, further increasing the fuel savings and emissions reductions by a factor of 1.5,” BAR Technologies CEO John Cooper said in a statement on Tuesday.

The individual success of Pyxis Ocean is encouraging news, but that’s just one of the 110,000-or-so merchant ships in the world. On top of that, ports are currently designed to accommodate shipping vessels’ traditional proportions—that 125-feet of height added by WindWings could potentially complicate docking in many locations. According to Jan Dieleman, president of Cargill’s Ocean Transportation business, they’re already working to address such issues.

“Cargill is creating ways for all [wind assisted propulsion] vessels—not just the Pyxis Ocean—to operate on global trade routes,” they said in this week’s announcement, adding that the company has begun talking to over 250 ports to figure out the logistics needed to accommodate such ships.

Sail-powered cargo ship 'shows potential of wind'

R etrofitting giant, rigid sails to a cargo ship has effectively cut its fuel use and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, shipping firm data shows.

The Pyxis Ocean tested the British-designed WindWings for six months.

Cargill says the data "underscores the potential" of wind to reduce the shipping industry's carbon footprint.

Experts describe the results as "very encouraging", but say, at present, only a tiny volume of the international shipping fleet is using the technology.

Sails have powered boats for millennia - but the type of sails trialled on the Pyxis Ocean are different to those normally seen on wind-powered vessels.

Made of the same material as wind turbine blades, they are folded down in port then opened out to stand at 123ft (37.5m) on the open seas.

After having the wings fitted in Shanghai, the ship set sail in August 2023.

Cargill says the ship spent half a year sailing the Indian and Pacific Oceans and the North and South Atlantic, during which time it used on average three tonnes less fuel each day.

That equates to 11.2 tonnes of C02 emissions saved for each day the sails were up. If replicated over a year, it would amount to the equivalent of removing 480 cars from the roads, Cargill calculates.

Decarbonisation

The saving, though, is a drop in the ocean for the industry as a whole.

International shipping is estimated to be responsible for 837 million tonnes of CO2 annually - or 2.1% of total global emissions.

Nonetheless, Cargill says it is encouraged by the results.

"We believe technologies that harness the wind could be an important, cost-effective way to achieve our decarbonisation goals in the short, medium and long-term," said Jan Dieleman, president of Cargill's Ocean Transportation business.

The company says it is "engaging" with more than 250 ports worldwide to find ways for ships fitted with the sails to berth.

BAR Technologies, the UK firm which designed the wings, is seeking other ships to fit, and says it will use three wings rather than two in future, increasing the fuel and emissions saved.

Time for change

Stephen Gordon, managing director at the maritime data firm Clarksons Research, highlighted the fact that this trial had taken place with a refurbished, rather than a brand new ship.

"The option to retrofit to an existing fleet - as has been done with the Pyxis Ocean - is very helpful," he told the BBC.

"It will take decades to deliver all the new ships needed for the decarbonisation journey. Even today shipyards globally are full and lead times for delivery are averaging 3.5 years."

Mr Gordon said other firms were exploring alternative energy-saving technologies, such as flettner rotors - a system of spinning cylinders first conceived 100 years ago and now enjoying a limited renaissance .

But he stressed that the international shipping fleet and newbuild order-book stood at 114,000 vessels - and his company only had records of 100 of them having wind-assisted technology.

Dr Simon Bullock, from the University of Manchester's Tyndall Centre, said it was time for that that to change.

He said the results showed the "major and immediate benefits of wind-assist technologies" and urged other shipping companies to take note.

"To tackle climate change, the shipping industry needs to cut its use of fossil fuel rapidly.

"These essential technologies make major inroads into that challenge, and should be deployed and retrofitted as standard," he told the BBC.
