Our favourite Tuesday of the year is just around the corner - The Melbourne Cup! We don't know about you, but the race that stops the nation is one of our favourite excuses for lunchtime bubbles and a midweek celebration. This year there are plenty of events happening up and down our beachside strip, and we're here to help you find the best parties on Hastings Street. All that's left to do is gather your most fun-loving friends and pick out your favourite frock.

Celebrating Melbourne Cup at Bistro C is a guaranteed good time. Sponsored by none other than Aperol, this beachside restaurant's lunchtime event includes a 4-course set menu, cocktail on arrival, live DJ and prizes by Veuve Clicquot and Husk. There will also be a fashion show, sweepstakes and of course, the live race.

They managed the full trifecta -- AWFUL FOOD, AWFUL SERVICE and AWFUL STAFF. Been here several times as a member and it was fine. But this time my $47.50 eye fillet and mash was cold (hardly even warm) when it arrived at the table - one mouthful and that was it. So I took it back and the young lady was most polite and agreed to replace it with a curry. Next thing the chef comes out and starts abusing me saying that no way it was cold, he knew it was hot! Despite me protesting that my wife had tasted it and agreed it was totally cold. I then requested my money back which the young lady politely did. But then the belligerent barman came over and proceeded to demand what was going on and was threatening and completely unprofessional. Subsequently I heard from a local friend that this guy has a reputation for being obnoxious and unprofessional. Never again.

We have been here pre-Covid but lots has changed. Met parents here for a Sunday lunch and had a great time. When I booked online,(everywhere should do online bookings!) I requested a table near the water. Had a lovely quiet spot near the water with good views of the river. The staff were helpful, the food was fairly quick and delicious. I ordered the pork belly poke bowl and was beautiful. My dad ordered the spaghetti marinara and said it was the best he has had. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the service. Couldn't quite commit to 5 stars as it wasn't a 5 star place but well worth it. Good prices too!

Had quite an unsatisfactory experience here today. Hubby and I went out for a belated, casual anniversary lunch by the Noosa River. Perfect time to enjoy an Aperol Spritz? You'd think so but no. Hubby ordered drinks but mine wasn"t good (weak on Aperol and way too much soda) so naturally I popped back up to the bar and was friendly in my approach. "I'm pretty fussy about my Aperol Spritz. This isn't quite right. You can see that it's a bit weak. Could you put a little more Aperol in it for me please?" Bar Manager frowns and says "Well we have our own recipe." I say "Well then it's not an Aperol Spritz which is what was ordered." "It our own recipe. This will cost you more," he says. "In that case you can just give me my money back." Anyway he reluctantly gave me an extra half nip. The Aperol Spritz recipe has been the same since 1919. Don't mess with perfection! And certainly don't create a problem for a customer by doing so. The food was disappointing and over priced. (It is Noosa though so higher prices to be expected). These guys are trying way too hard to deliver a fancy menu but they missed the mark. They should not rely on having a great view and focus more on friendly quality customer service and really good food.

Friendly staff, moderate prices for drinks, but there was no view even at night. They allowed my friend to charge her phone on a plug. There's tons of seating, so it's a good place to get a single cocktail. There was a claw machine for kids to play with and maybe win some candy. It's not a very social place, particularly for the Saturday evening we went. Expected a bit more from this place, go somewhere else if you want a more social experience.

F rom Noosa’s award-winning restaurants to more relaxed affairs at Sunshine Beach Surf Club and 4 Pines Noosa , the punters frocked up and showed up to come together for the Melbourne Cup.

Whether you are a racing expert or just enjoy a casual flutter, here in Noosa the focus was on dressing up and coming together to enjoy fine food and hospitality to support our local venues.

Fabulous fascinators and pops of colour were the order of the day with feathers, flowers and frills in abundance.

Melbourne Cup drops by

NOOSA will host one of its most high-profile guests today and she's dressed head to toe in 18-carat gold.

The $175,000 Melbourne Cup trophy will visit Noosa as part of the three-month 2012 Emirates Melbourne Cup Tour around Australia and New Zealand.

Rob Neely, who runs Noosa-based Equine Nutrition Australia, organised the stopover as one of one of 25 legs of the Victoria Racing Club's 10th anniversary tour.

Mr Neely said he wanted to incorporate every facet of the Noosa community and get as much publicity for Noosa and the Sunshine Coast as possible.

"It's an iconic sporting trophy coming to what is essentially an iconic beach and tourist destination," he said.

"It never goes back to a town twice...it's never been to the Coast before.

"It's coming to Noosa for the first and last time."

The Cup's visit was somewhat of a reunion for Mr Neely.

"I'm absolutely thrilled because our family had a long association with the Cup," he said.

"I went to the Cup when I was 11 years of age and went for 18 years straight. My family went to the Melbourne Cup every single year, so it means a lot to me."

The Cup will visit the Noosa Surf Life Saving Club, St Theresa's Catholic Secondary School, St Thomas More Catholic Primary School, Sunshine Beach State School, Ricky's Restaurant, Carramar Senior Citizens Home, Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club Supporters Bar and travel on the Noosa Ferry.

But the main event will be seeing it winched out of a helicopter and into a surf boat in front of Noosa's Main Beach.

The Cup will be on the beach in front of Noosa Heads Surf Club in the afternoon so the public can take photos, while the club hosts a 24-person surf ski race, representing the 24 Melbourne Cup horses.

Sheila Laxon, the first female trainer of a Melbourne Cup winner, Ethereal in 2001 will join Wendy Green, the owner of 1999 Cup winner Rogan Josh at the charity lunch at Ricky's Restaurant, with proceeds going to Angel Flight.

The tour highlights the contribution of the 152-year-old race to social, sporting and racing culture.
