KAMAXITHA is a 55.42 m Sail Yacht, built in Netherlands by Royal Huisman and delivered in 2012.

Her top speed is 14.6 kn and she boasts a maximum range of 2700.0 nm when navigating at cruising speed, with power coming from a MTU diesel engine. She can accommodate up to 8 guests, with 7 crew members waiting on their every need. She has a gross tonnage of 350.0 GT and a 9.06 m beam.

She was designed by Dykstra Naval Architects , who also completed the naval architecture. Dykstra Naval Architects has designed 21 yachts and created the naval architecture for 29 yachts for yachts above 24 metres.

Her interior was designed by Rhoades Young Design , who has 19 other superyacht interiors designed in the BOAT Pro database - she is built with a Teak deck, a Aluminium hull, and Aluminium superstructure.

KAMAXITHA is in the top 10% by LOA in the world. She is one of 31 sailing yachts in the 55-60m size range, and, compared to similarly sized sailing yachts, her top speed is 0.15 kn above the average.

KAMAXITHA is currently sailing under the Cayman Islands flag, the 2nd most popular flag state for superyachts with a total of 1363 yachts registered. Superyacht in Focus: Kamaxitha

Kamaxitha was delivered at the beginning of 2012 and offers one of the most enviable cruising experiences on the water today. The 55m (181ft) Spirit of Tradition ketch has confirmed her position as an offshore flyer whilst crossing the Atlantic and is now making her way back to Europe where she will be cruising the Mediterranean by summer 2013.

Designed by Dykstra Naval Architects and with a lavish interior by Rhoades Young, Kamaxitha demonstrated fantastic capabilities while crossing the Atlantic, then showed off her elegant and purposeful lines as she threaded her way amongst the Windward and Leeward Islands. 

The expert construction of Kamaxitha by Royal Huisman is a spectacular combination of authentic traditional ketch and advanced offshore rocket ship, meaning there is more to this superyacht than meets the eye. The revival of Spirit of Tradition means enthusiasts of fine traditional sailing yachts can now enjoy the spectacle of a host of elegant new classics in ports, on passage, and at regattas around the world.

Kamaxitha’s owner is one such enthusiast, but one who could see no reason why fine traditional lines should be in conflict with sparkling performance and exceptional handling. He commissioned Dykstra Naval Architects to design, and Royal Huisman to build, a yacht that carried with it a spirit of tradition, combining classic hull lines with a highly advanced underbody, keel and rudder configuration to complement a powerfully efficient ketch rig. He also invited Rhoads Young Design to create an interior that stakes a strong visual claim to yachts of an earlier era yet incorporates all the luxurious amenities and operational necessities of the modern era.

“ Kamaxitha provided the yard with the opportunity to draw on the full spectrum of its talents and capabilities, ” comment her builders at Royal Huisman. “ The construction of a strong, highly insulated hull with retractable keel; the design engineering that optimised interior space while incorporating comprehensive, reliable and easily maintainable systems; the highest standards of cored lightweight, MCA approved interior joinery and fit-out; the carbon composite construction of the Rondal rig and the development and installation of advanced sail-handling systems are merely an indiction .”

The social centre of Kamaxitha revolves around the main deckhouse, together with the main cockpit and helm stations neatly grouped behind the companion way and protected by a sun awning. The main cockpit is designed to provide secure, sheltered seating with excellent views and easy access to service from below, as well as social interaction with the helm.

From her earliest sea trials, Kamaxitha has made a singular impression on those who sail her, True to her form; she powers up and accelerates rapidly, with an appetite to reach top speeds – often exceeding true wind speed – with little or no fuss.”

The spirit of tradition ketch kamaxitha offers strong design references to the early working sailers like the pilot cutter and the brixham trawler. an elegant 49m on deck (55m with bowsprit), she combines classic traditional lines - including plumb bow and elegant counter stern - with an invigorating aptitude for performance and fast passage making..

The lines are drawn by Dykstra Naval Architects, whose expertise in performance-orientated classic yachts is arguably second to none. They have married sympathetic period features such as gentle sheer, open deck space, neatly-proportioned deckhouses and skylights, above the waterline, with a modern, easily driven hull shape below. The canoe underbody sports a fully-ballasted lifting keel, deep carbon spade rudder and low wetted-surface areas.

With her Alustar hull, tall carbon spars and comprehensive sailplan, this is a powerful, lightweight yacht whose sea keeping and performance is complemented by style, comfort and amenity below. Rhoades Young Design has drawn upon classic references and traditional craftsmanship for a mellow and invitingly luxurious interior.

Sailing Yacht Sailing Yacht Kamaxitha (Spirit of Tradition Ketch) is a Royal Huisman built 55m (181ft) long ketch with a delivery date in 2012. Her naval architecture is designed by the world renowned Dykstra & Partners Naval Architects. Kamaxitha superyacht's beautiful interior was projected by Rhoades Young Designs.

Accommodation aboard this lovely traditionally styled ketch is offered in one double Owners' cabin, three guest cabins; including one twin aft cabin with a Pullman and one mobile Pullman, one double cabin aft with one mobile Pullman as well as one twin cabin forward configured for a wheelchair user. There is also a sofa bed in the lower salon. Here the day head includes a shower, too.

Professional crew is accommodated in one double Captain's cabin and three twin crew cabins.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.
