The new Y8 from YYachts: “The good mood boat” (in carbon)

Minimal Logo

The new Y8 from the YYachts shipyard is the unprecedented evolution of large yachts from Teutonic production. It proves that boats like these, although very large, can include the coveted “simplicity”. Without omitting top luxury and safe navigation. The “good mood” on board also comes from the super performance, optimal for fast cruising and racing with friends.

Y8 YYachts

Comfort and performance

Luxury, large spaces, but above all simplicity and cruising performance. YYachts worked on this Y8 in synergy with Javier Jaudeness of Surge Projects. The result is all there: a big, fast yacht that will amaze anyone. Let’s start by describing the exterior , but without neglecting a curiosity. Donna Rosa is also a film that tells the story of a boatman who falls in love with the daughter of an antiquarian aspiring to nobility. And when you look at the colour palette of this Y8, you can see the same atmosphere of mischief and romance as in Ettore Maria Fizzarotti’s movie. But there’s more. The soft pink colour of Donna Rosa ‘s hull, however, implies carbon with the superior performance that this material can offer.

Yyachts Y8: exciting racing

Lightweight, “ the new Y8 is a lot of fun. I would describe it as a good-mood boat, ” says Javier Jaudeness . How could he not be right? Donna Rosa’s performance promises to be ultra-satisfying, but the brand’s philosophy is one of easy yachting for carefree cruising.

Y8 YYachts

And safety: “ We build fast boats that are both safe and easy to manoeuvre, ” explains Dirk Zademack , CEO of YYachts. We know this and so does Micheal Schmidt: “Sailing with fun is something that can be achieved with a yacht that is simple and kept to a minimum without sacrificing comfort” . Along with this goes a sophisticated design, with a Nordic, uncluttered interior that is relaxed, very Zen-like but warm at the same time.

The design study for this new Y8 includes numerous details that confirm the brand’s quest for “performance”. The large foredeck is completely free of structural obstacles, with its large bowsprit to increase the sail plan. And, most importantly, the engine room is positioned at amidships below the saloon to further lower the yacht’s centre of gravity. This increases the yacht’s speed while also stabilizing it.

Another innovative solution is the transverse garage at the stern. The deckhouse is also entirely panoramic, with a slightly raised roof. It is also perfect for the cold seasons and offers a pleasant ‘ homey ‘ feeling. The separate access to the cockpit for the crew is another feature that should not be underestimated. In terms of accommodation , the owner’s cabin can be arranged forward or aft. In total there’s room for three or four cabins. And the galley is available in both closed and open versions.

The new Y8 from YYachts is set to become an iconic large yacht. But to really appreciate it, you have to totally embrace that famous “ good mood ” concept that only yachts like this can offer.

Y Yachts’ Y7 review: This powerful carbon cruiser is guaranteed to excite

  • Toby Hodges
  • March 5, 2020

Michael Schmidt’s powerful new Y7 combines genius ideas with a keep-it-simple theme, says Toby Hodges

Product Overview

Manufacturer:.

What is your idea of simple sailing? To a wooden yacht enthusiast it may be the pleasure of hand hoisting and trimming sails via block and tackle alone, where an owner of a modern glassfibre yacht might baulk at the amount of upkeep timber demands and prefer the ease of push button sailing.

Others might look back whimsically to their youth and the joy of simply dragging a dinghy down the beach and sailing without any maintenance or financial woes.

Michael Schmidt ’s latest creation is his solution to simple sailing at the luxury end of the scale. The decorated sailor who founded Hanse Yachts believes in a keep-it-simple philosophy with his models, which you may find hard to believe when looking at this new 70-footer and the levels of technical complexity that must lie beneath its carbon fibre/epoxy skins.

But having sailed the Y7 in precisely the light wind conditions for which it was designed, and felt the thrill of helming a perfectly balanced, potent and contemporary fast cruiser, I can vouch that it does have a theme of simplicity, which becomes dangerously enticing.

“Sailing fun is made possible by a simple ship that has been reduced to the bare essentials without sacrificing comfort,” Schmidt believes. We’re not talking a yacht stripped to engineless minimalism here. The Y7 is, to all intents and purposes, a scaled-down superyacht , which has been kept approachable, performance-oriented and comparatively easy to manage.

I quote Schmidt not simply because he is the founder of the company, but because he is a veteran boatbuilder, sailor and visionary of the industry. Having built up and then sold Hanse Yachts, and extensively cruised its largest model at the time, the 630e, he searched fruitlessly for a larger, lighter boat that could better harness the softer breezes typically found in the Mediterranean.

Advanced Yachts A80: Lightweight luxury cruiser can sail in the lightest breeze

A multitude of shiny new yachts drifted across the Bay of Cannes, like a painting of a seascape reflected in…

Michael Schmidt Yachtbau, now Y Yachts, is the brand of luxury carbon cruisers he created, a German firm that aims to use the best technology available to simplify the sailing. Schmidt also believes a yacht needs aesthetics that will distinguish it from the pack.

This philosophy underpinned his first model, the Brenta 80 (now Y8). Schmidt has since cruised that test boat, Cool Breeze , thousands of miles. And while many reportedly liked that concept and design style, they found it too large for their needs.

‘A 70ft yacht you can sail alone’ became Y Yachts’ target. The result is a fast cruiser with no backstay(s), a self-tacking jib and winches and lines that fall to the hand of the helmsman.

The design echoes the style of the Y8 and sees Schmidt maintain his penchant for high topsides (from his Hanse days), combined with a flat, low coachroof. Schmidt doesn’t like having to rely on crew and typically sails two-up.

Nevertheless the beamy and voluminous Y7 includes a crew cabin within the interior (rather than stuffed in the forepeak), with private access to the cockpit.

Bill Tripp was tasked with targeting lightweight performance to ensure the boat would offer enjoyable sailing in single figure windspeeds. A key attribute of the Y7 is that it shouldn’t need to motor in light airs.

That said, it can motor very efficiently thanks to the inclusion of two engines; Schmidt values low fuel consumption, good manoeuvrability and systems redundancy.

Carbon construction

Carbon sandwich construction with an epoxy outer skin results in a moderate/light displacement of 29 tonnes and a good balance of impact protection and noise control. Although Schmidt built some of the earliest carbon race yachts, he now subcontracts hull and deck moulding to specialist lamination yards in Poland and Slovenia, then fitting out in his new 3,000m 2 facility in Greifswald.

The structural work and finish of the first Y7, Bella , is certainly to a high standard, and the sub-€2m starting price for this 70ft carbon composite cruiser explains the appeal of the new design and demand to see it in action. The second hull has been handed over, the third is in build and the yard is now set up to produce one boat every four months.

y-yachts-y7-review-side-view-credit-Nico-Krauss

The Y7 has similar styling and features to the Y8, including the high freeboard and low, flat coachroof. Photo: Nico Krauss

The price is a significant factor. The Y7 represents is a lot of carbon yacht for the money. At this price point, potential buyers might be tempted to compare it to a large semi-production cruiser such the CNB 76 or Euphoria 68 . However, those who are looking for comparable performance would need to look at lighter composite yachts – and the Swan 65 , for example, costs another €1m.

Simply seductive

Bella certainly looked very much at home nestled among the superyachts at Port Adriano marina in Mallorca. The flat coachroof was adorned with sunbeds and a table and chairs were set up on its large flush foredeck.

The large bimini shading it hung from the mast, forestay and shrouds – a clever idea to use the foredeck to create a shaded area away from dock. Bella also has a removable cockpit bimini, mounted on four carbon posts.

When sail trialling a yacht, you always hope to get the type of conditions for which it is primarily designed. I favour moderate winds to ensure I can get a proper feel for the boat. So I did fret a little as we motored out of the marina and met a sloppy sea and a gentle breeze.

However, that long afternoon and evening we spent under sail proved perfect for demonstrating the Y7’s capabilities, and particularly for appreciating its ability to be able to keep on sailing in light winds.

In just 10 knots of breeze, typical midsummer Mediterranean conditions, we were already heeled and powered-up, sailing at 8-8.5 knots. The modern, beamy hull shape, with a long waterline and generous sail area, all help produce such speeds. The sail area to displacement ratio is a huge 33.4, a figure that confirms this design’s significant power aloft. Consequently, she will need to be reefed early.

y-yachts-y7-review-winch-credit-Nico-Krauss

Lines are led under deck to winches fore and aft of the wheels. This shows the starboard aft winch with shorepower connections below. Photo: Nico Krauss

The square-top fully battened mainsail has 184m 2 of sail area alone, which could be a lot to handle without sufficient crew. An upgrade to the winch package would be on my option list, as it took an age to hoist this sail from the lazyjacks.

However, the helmsman feels the benefit of this sailpower immediately. Tacking the boat is an addictive, one-person affair. The 30° sweptback spreaders avoid the need for a backstay, and allow the use of a self-tacking jib.

We found more breeze once out into the bay and continued our beat west away from the island. The outboard position of the wheel pedestals helps give the helmsman clear views over the flat, low coachroof.

y-yachts-y7-review-tender-garage-credit-Nico-Krauss

The huge aft deck raises on struts to reveal an enormous watertight garage for a 3.45m RIB, which is launched using a carbon pole off the boom’s aft end. The design allows the garage to remain sealed when the swim platform is lowered. Photo: Nico Krauss

The helm is generally light, as you’d expect with twin rudders, but with a pleasant increase in weatherhelm when the boat heels and powers up. There is also plenty of grip from these rudders, which are positioned relatively far outboard.

It is less comfortable for crew, however. Such is the beam aft (over 18ft) that it can feel unnerving to cross the cockpit or to stay seated to windward when at a high heeling angle. Comparable yachts of this size tend to have a mainsheet winch plinth with rails or a support/crash bar between the wheels. Y Yachts says it can offer the latter, which is an option I’d certainly recommend.

The long cockpit with split tables has room for eight to sit around, with more space on the large aft-facing seats. The portside seat has access to the crew quarters neatly integrated beneath. The aluminium frames that form the backrests for the cockpit seats are freestanding of the coamings, a clear indication that this boat is aimed at warm weather sailing.

Push button reaching

I thought the Y7 might be all about the upwind sailing experience, keeping the apparent windspeed up and heel on, but then we hoisted a Code 0 for the long reach back.

At the push of another pedestal button, an electric furler fitted in the end of the bowsprit unleashed an enormous amount of sail (acquired, it transpired, from a Maxi 72). With this code sail set, we picked up pace and were able to match the 7-11 knot wind speeds all the way home.

The single point mainsheet is led forward to the mast and aft to one winch. This arrangement, together with the other sheets and halyards, results in a mass of rope tails in the cockpit. Unusually (and commendably), there are generous-sized rope tail lockers between the winches to keep all these lines from getting too unruly.

The deck is stepped in line with where the guest cockpit meets the sailing cockpit, so there is easy access out onto the sidedecks. Here, the double guardrails reduce to single rails to meet the bulwark and pushpit.

This low rail invites the helmsman to sit right out to leeward and enjoy the clear views forward. However, the wide-open aft deck and low rail do little to promote a secure feeling if you are in the sailing cockpit.

Nevertheless, as I perched to leeward, and with a light hand on the wheel, the sailing was truly memorable, and we footed along effortlessly under the Code sail.

Two engines

The Y7 certainly has a slippery hull design – so much so that it was only as we approached the marina that I remembered that the Y7 is fitted with two shaft-drive propellers. Twin Nanni engines were chosen as they are simple to repair, with few electronics, and their relatively small size means the saloon sole and thus coachroof can be kept low and streamlined.

However, problems with the installation on this first boat resulted in unacceptable noise levels, an issue the yard now reports has been resolved. It says all future models will have saildrives.

Under power, the boat doesn’t quite spin on a point like a catamaran – the props are quite close together – but the twin engines certainly aid manoeuvrability and mean that you are much less reliant on the bowthruster.

Below decks, the styling matches the impressive look of the exterior, and is akin to a designer apartment. In Bella ’s case, it was customised specially for Michael Schmidt. Hull number two is said to have a much lighter, less masculine trim.

Schmidt was inspired by modern architectural designs he saw in Copenhagen, and this is reflected in the feel of the finish, from the choice of fabrics, to the lighting and overall interior shapes.

Smart thinking and styling

Multiple layout options are offered including three or four cabins, and the choice of a central transverse galley or passageway galley aft. Abaft the aft port cabin is a clever, if super-compact, crew cabin, which contains two bunks at right angles to each other, a heads and private access to the sailing cockpit.

y-yachts-y7-review-guest-master-credit-Sichtvorteil-Thomas-Wilhelmi

The forward cabin with huge island berth. A step up through a watertight bulkhead leads into the generous heads compartment forward. Photo: Sichtvorteil / Thomas Wilhelmi

The semi-raised saloon creates the impression of a huge space. The yacht’s large beam accentuates this by exposing the curves and structures of hull sides. On the test boat the saloon has a wide-open space extending as far as the galley, sited amidships. To help you traverse it, there are sliding leather grabhandles on the deckhead for when moving about.

I like the use of vertical glass coachroof windows, which let in plenty of light without producing too much heat, but to provide better ventilation I would prefer to have more opening portholes and some coachroof hatches.

The galley is relatively compact and is open along the centreline, a layout that is perhaps not ideally suited to life at heel. That said, it boasts a large area of fiddled work surfaces and generous amounts of refrigerated stowage, and the yard does offer the option of a larger, enclosed galley aft, which connects through to the crew accommodation.

A central island berth in the forward cabin suggests this, too, is designed more for use in port than at sea. Hull number two has an offset berth here, which will be more practical at sea.

The Y7 is undeniably a lovely yacht to spend time aboard and one that can be handled with relative ease. The ‘keep it simple’ philosophy is felt mostly in the sailing, trimming and manoeuvring. The helmsman can easily manage lines and controls from the wheel – though would need help with setting, stowing and reefing sails. From the design of the tender garage, the installation of twin engines to a myriad of neat fixtures and fittings, the Y7 is packed with novel ideas, all born out of Michael Schmidt’s enormous experience. Below decks the Y7 feels as much like a luxury apartment as a yacht, and the style can be customised to suit an owner. I loved the exterior and interior design of Bella, although I think the layout is more set up for use at rest than at sea. The contemporary styling is bound to divide opinion. But the Y7 boasts superyacht quality at a size that is properly rewarding to sail. This powerful yacht boasts a level of performance that is guaranteed to excite.

Y8, a new design for YYachts' successful fast cruising yacht

y yachts y8 price

YYachts was born in the mid-2010s with the launch of the Y8, an 80-foot fast cruising yacht. In 2022, the German shipyard offers a renewed design with an à la carte layout.

Chloé Torterat

A second design for the Y8

German shipyard YYachts builds luxurious, fast and comfortable carbon fiber cruising yachts between 20 and 35 meters. The success of the shipyard founded by Michael Schmidt began with the launch of the Y8 in 2015, an 80-foot sailboat named "Cool Breeze."

six years later, the yard developed a new design, modifying the 80-foot hull of the first model. For this new project for a Swiss client, the Palma de Mallorca-based design and development team collaborated with Surge Projects. The Mallorcan design firm headed by Javier Jaudenes is known for its elegant, timeless and fast-paced designs. It has received several awards including for the Baltic 108.

Le premier design Cool Breeze

A revised deck plan for better performance

Unlike the previous model, the new Y8 has a wider stern and is inspired by the IMOCA boats, as the owner wanted. By moving the mast back, Javier Jaudenes predicts a higher speed potential, to carry a larger surface of headsail and improve upwind conditions. The side helms are positioned aft, with the maneuvers hidden in the deck and returning to the winches installed nearby. The transom extends to become a swim platform with ladder. The central cockpit offers two large U-shaped benches with tables, which can be transformed into a sunbathing area.

Le nouveau Y8

Timelessness that never changes

On board the yacht, you will find the characteristics of the range, namely, a transverse dinghy garage, a self-tacking jib, a separate access for the crew in the cockpit or a lowered roof whose position of the windows prevents the saloon from overheating.

Un cockpit modulable

A modular interior design

The interior volume is 20% larger than that of its predecessor. This results in numerous layout possibilities. The owner's suite, including a private lounge, can be located either forward or aft, with direct access to the cockpit. The galley can be open or closed and three to four cabins can be integrated on board the yacht. By moving the technical area under the salon floor, the center of gravity is lower and the boat is more balanced and therefore faster.

Thanks to the slightly elevated saloon floor, crew members can enjoy a view of the sea.

The YYachts success story began with the Y8. After “Cool Breeze”, the first YYacht ever, and further individual Y8 follow-up orders, YYachts now developed a modified 80 feet platform for a Swiss customer. For the new Y8, the YYachts design and development team based in Palma de Mallorca cooperated with Surge Projects.

The Mallorcan design studio around Javier Jaudenes has a “knack” for a timelessly elegant design, but also has great experience in designing fast yachts. Surge designs have won many trophies, and the studio has developed such interesting yachts as “Win Win” or the Café Racer. YYachts CEO Dirk Zademack says: “Javier Jaudenes is an excellent fit for YYachts with his previous projects; he is a great addition to Bill Tripp. We build fast boats that are both safe and easy to handle. That they also display outstanding design is a given.”

In contrast to the previous Y8, the new model has a wider stern, so in combination with the mast set further back, Javier Jaudenes predicts high speed potential for his design: “The Jib will provide a lot of speed. A lot of R&D results from previous projects have gone into the Y8. It is an essence of our experience and will be fast, but at the same time very safe under any conditions. The fact that YYachts builds from carbon naturally suits our philosophy.” Jaudenes: “The new Y8 is a lot of fun. I would describe her as a good-mood yacht.”

YYachts presents new Y8 follow-up orders

Of course, the new Y8 also offers YYachts’ usual innovative standard – such as the transverse garage in the stern, the self-tacking jib, the separate crew access in the cockpit or the flat deckhouse, whose optimally placed windows prevent the yacht from heating up too much.

Incidentally, the interior volume of the yacht is 20 percent larger than that of its predecessor. This results in many different layout options: The owner’s suite including a separate saloon can be located either in the bow or in the stern with direct access to the cockpit, the galley can be installed open or closed, and three or four cabins can be fitted. By moving the engine room below the saloon floor, the yacht gets a lower centre of gravity and thus a better balance, which results in additional speed.

Incidentally, thanks to the slightly raised saloon floor, owners and guests can enjoy an unobstructed view of the sea from the saloon. YYachts founder Michael Schmidt comments: “For me, this new Y8 is a very special design. After all, I founded the shipyard with the first Y8. In between, there are quite a few orders. But yachting is always evolving due to new building materials, different rigs and also the regatta scene. This is what inspires us at YYachts to continually develop new products.”

The first three units of the new Y8 have already been sold.

Y8 // Y Yachts

The story of y yachts by michael schmidt yachtbau began with the y8 called " cool breeze ". now, here comes a new version..

Ten different layouts are available for this nearly 24-meter-long yacht, allowing customers and their designers to customize it according to their specific requirements and preferences.

In an impressive move, a seasoned YYachts owner has enlisted renowned architect and designer David Thulstrup to create the interior of his Y8. Thulstrup, an award-winning architect and designer, combines his Scandinavian heritage with a contemporary design language, resulting in a refined and holistic approach to architecture, interiors, and product design. His practice is deeply rooted in enduring Scandinavian values of honesty and humanism, strongly emphasizing materiality. A central principle of his work is considering people’s emotions and well-being. By taking a comprehensive approach to every aspect of a project, David creates spaces that provide comfort and harmony with their surroundings. The interior design of the Y8 will perfectly embody this philosophy and Thulstrup’s distinctive approach. Warm beige, brown, and wood tones will create a cozy ambiance that exudes relaxation and elegance. A plank-like floor will visually connect the exterior and interior, while the narrow, flat windows and surrounding windows of the Y8’s sleek superstructure will fill the space with natural light.

Interior design of the Y8

The Y8, designed by David Thulstrup, has a unique feature compared to the previous Y8 yachts. It has fewer bulkheads, allowing for a different configuration of spaces. The crew area is located at the stern in this layout, while four guests can sleep in two cabins with en suite bathrooms. The centerpiece of the yacht is the salon, which is divided into a lounge area with spacious sofas on both sides and a dining area with a table for six to eight guests. The dining area can be separated using sliding doors, creating a private or office space.

The exterior and technical design of the yacht was done by Javier Jaudenes and the experienced Surge Projects team, which is known for its performance-oriented fast cruisers. This is why Javier Jaudenes refers to the Y8 as a “fun boat.”

Unlike the earlier Y8 models, this new version has a broader stern, and the mast is set further back. Javier Jaudenes believes this design will result in high-speed potential, especially with the help of the jib. The Y8 incorporates the knowledge gained from previous projects and is designed to be fast and safe under any conditions. The use of carbon in the construction by YYachts aligns with their philosophy.

With her construction, the Y8 has good potential for regatta victories. Since the mast has been placed further aft, the new Y8 carries a larger headsail, which provides better height in the wind. In the cockpit, guests enjoy a wonderful sailing atmosphere al fresco. The crew has a separate entrance here. With its soft edges and coachroof, and flooded with natural light, the Y8 has a relaxing atmosphere !

Like the hull, the rig of the Y8 is also made of carbon. Here, too, YYachts trusts only proven manufacturers.

Due to her design, the Y8 can be sailed with a very small crew, making it an ideal family yacht. Every owner can have his yacht painted in the colour that exactly suits him, and the interior of a Y8 can be individually designed for each owner. There are numerous options for a layout of a Y8 below deck. With the available options the Y8 can flexibly adapt to your requirements, with the possibility to divide the front and rear living areas.

We would be delighted to assist you in your construction project, do not hesitate to contact us to receive her full brochure.

The specific client tapped David Thulstrup to bring the interiors to life. The renowned architect and designer takes a holistic approach to projects and weaves in various aspects of his Scandinavian heritage. This particular vessel is distinguished by a palette of warm browns and rich wood that together create a cozy ambiance. The decor is quintessentially Scandi chic, with minimalist fixtures and furnishings. The superstructure is fitted with plenty of windows to ensure an abundance of natural light.

YYachts Y8 Custom Sailing Yacht

In terms of layout, the newcomer is equipped with fewer bulkheads than its predecessors and is configured a little differently. The crew quarters are located in the stern, while two guest staterooms with en suites sit forward. At the center of the living quarters is a main salon that comprises a lounge with plush sofas and a dining area with a table for up to eight guests. The dining area can also be separated by sliding doors and used as an office.

The exterior of the yacht is arguably more impressive than the interior. It was the handiwork of Javier Jaudenenes and Surge Projects. The duo has designed a myriad of fast cruisers and thus has plenty of experience in engineering for maximum speed. Crafted from carbon, the Y8 features a wider stern than previous models, and her mast is also set further back than others. Jaudenes says a lot of R&D from previous projects has been poured into this design and he is confident that the jib will provide a lot of speed.

“It is an essence of our experience and will be fast, but at the same time very safe under any conditions,” adds Jaudenes.

ONE SIZE. THREE YACHTS. MANY OPTIONS.

Create your individual superyacht.

Our Y9 is unique and so is every single Y9. Above all, she is as individual as our customers themselves, because her layout and equipment are completely variable. Complementing this, the Y9 offers the volume of a 100-foot yacht in 90 feet. And she is available in three exciting versions – Y9, Y9 Pilot House, Y9 Custom.

The main focus for Y9 owners is spending time with family and friends on board. As a result, the 90-foot carbon sailing yacht is easy to sail even with a small crew. Her interior design fulfills and even extends all owners' wishes for a family yacht with sufficient privacy while they travel the world. Of course, the Y9 can also prove her potential on regatta courses in the Mediterranean or the Caribbean and sail right at the front of the field. She will be a formidable opponent in any regatta.

Like all YYachts, the Y9 follows a clear design philosophy - reducing all unnecessary superstructure and components to create a clean and minimalist deck: Keep it simple. Look good and sail nicely.

BRINGS IMMEASURABLE JOY TO ITS OWNER

The luxury of being able to set out to sea self-sufficiently and with confidence is priceless. Even more enjoyable, is a comfortable, high performance and seaworthy yacht that sails fast and looks cool. Our Y9 delivers that in a way no other yacht can.

Y9 sailing yacht - space for your ideas, your y9. your layout..

The spaciousness of a 100ft yacht was achievable on the Y9 in 90ft by implementing many years of expertise in design and construction. The owner is provided the highest level of privacy with his own apartment; dependent upon the configuration, up to three additional suites are available for guests. Considerable importance was given to the design of the crew area, after all an unwritten rule in yachting is “happy crew, happy owner”.

There are various layouts available for the Y9 in addition to numerous interior furnishing options. The YYachts team will work with each owner to personalize their interior. You may also select your own interior designer for the project.

Y9 STANDARD LAYOUT

Y9 layout 2, y9 layout 3, y9 layout 4, y9 layout 5, the y9 pilot house.

GRACIOUS SPACE FOR FAMILYAND FRIENDS

The Y9 Pilot House is the second version of the Y9 category and features a striking deckhouse that offers a very bright salon and phenomenal views at the sea. The layout of the Y9 Pilot House is optimized for families and friends to enjoy extensive cruising. Andrew Winch and his experienced team designed a sophisticated atmosphere below deck.

scaled to human dimensions

The Y9 is perfectly scaled to human dimensions and activities by eliminating exaggerated exterior and interior lines and proportions, as well as ineffectual spaces that are difficult to manage and maintain. Ensuring the owner remains connected to the sea and onboard guest with minimal distractions.

Perfect view to the sea

Several guest and crew cabin options are available for the Y9 Pilot House. The distinctive coach roof floods the salon with abundant daylight, which also boasts 360° views of the sea. This coach roof design is not only an aesthetic element, but also helps to reduce overheating below deck by deflecting the rays of the warming sun and minimizing the energy required to keep the interior cool in hot climates. This is just one of the aspects defining the Y9 as a sustainable yacht.
