Princess 440 refit: My £46k boat makeover was worth every penny

  • Top stories

After buying a cut-price 1995 Princess 440 sight unseen, Bryan Williamson spent the money he’d saved on refitting it exactly how he wanted it…

Jacqueline and I have always been into boating. We both grew up in Jersey and still live here today so the sea is in our blood.

As soon as our two children were old enough to walk we bought a second-hand Princess 30DS and over the next 12 years we gradually traded up – firstly to a Fairline Corniche 31 , then a Phantom 38 and eventually a Phantom 46.

Cruising as a family around the Channel Islands, France and the south coast of England was the perfect holiday for the four of us and we have so many happy memories of those times.

However, in 2008 a health scare in the family meant we couldn’t use the boat as often as we used to. We sold the Phantom in 2010 and for the next 10 years remained boatless.

Perhaps it was the onset of lockdown in 2020 or simply the fact that our grown-up children still liked the idea of coming boating with us, but 18 months ago I started to feel that familiar urge to get out on the water again. After a 10-year hiatus it was time to buy another boat.

Fairline Squadron 58 owner’s upgrade: £90k designer refit by Setag Yachts

Owner’s upgrade: how i turned my princess v48 convertible into a coupe cabriolet, the hunt is on.

Initially, I started searching for another Fairline Phantom 46 but it soon became apparent that I wasn’t going to find one within my notional budget of £100,000.

I started looking around to see what other three-cabin flybridge boats I might be able to buy instead and in March 2021 I chanced across a 1995 Princess 440 for sale in Plymouth advertised at £115,000.

It looked pretty good in the photos and by happy coincidence was called Claire , our daughter’s name, so we felt this one was beckoning to us even though the description said it needed some updating.

princess-440-pre-refit

At first sight the exterior of Claire didn’t look too bad for a 1995 boat but the interior told a different story. It would take a full refit to bring her back to the condition Bryan was looking for

Secondhand boats were in hot demand at the time due to overseas travel restrictions and I knew I had to move fast to avoid losing out so I put in a cheeky offer of £80,000 subject to viewing it in the flesh. Even so, I was rather surprised when the offer was accepted.

Covid restrictions meant I had a brief window to get from Jersey to Plymouth and back again so I booked myself onto an overnight ferry returning that same day.

When I did get to the boat, my heart sank. It had been used as a liveaboard for the last nine years and the constant wear and tear had taken a heavy toll.

The original leather helm chairs were badly worn

The interior linings were sagging and coming away from the bulkheads and ceiling, the leather sofas in the saloon looked tired and shapeless, the helm seat was so worn the leather had split, the cockpit and flybridge cushions were a write-off and the teak and gelcoat were covered in grime.

I normally wipe my feet before I get on a boat – after viewing this one I felt like I needed to wipe my feet when I disembarked!

Despite her shabby appearance, mechanically the boat seemed pretty sound. The engines had only covered 240 hours in the last nine years, it came with a fair bit of paperwork and the engine room itself looked reasonably tidy.

The saloon sofas looked tired and dated

I could see it had potential. If the hull and engines proved to be in respectable condition, we could always sort out the rest of it with a comprehensive refit.

I already had £20,000 left from my £100,000 budget so if I could chip a bit more off the purchase price and supplement my original budget with a bit of contingency money, that would leave me around £30-£40k to spend on a refit. I revised my offer to £70,000 and waited to see what the seller would say.

Perhaps not surprisingly, he refused my revised offer on the basis that he’d already taken a £35,000 hit on the asking price.

Sagging linings and faded curtains added to the shabby appearance

Knowing how hard it would be to find another suitable boat (I’d already spoken to three other brokers all of whom had nothing on their books), I agreed to stick with my original £80,000 offer subject to survey and sea trial.

The survey didn’t reveal anything we didn’t already know but did confirm that the hull was as solid and sound as I’d hoped.

The sea trial was a bit more eventful as the port engine cut out, but thankfully it was just a bad case of fuel bug rather than anything seriously wrong with the engine.  To his credit the owner agreed to cover the cost of polishing the fuel and changing all the filters. A few days later the boat was finally mine.

Counting the cost

At that point we could have brought the boat straight back to Jersey with a view to refitting it there but given that Plymouth is the home of Princess Yachts and teeming with related marine businesses, we thought we might as well get the refit done there.

I invited four companies to tender for the work. The brief was for a full interior refurbishment of all three cabins, both bathrooms, the saloon, galley, helm seats and companionway as well as the cockpit and flybridge upholstery.

The quotes ranged from £38,000 to £46,000. Ironically, SETAG Yachts’ was the most expensive but the way they presented it gave me confidence that they’d do the best job of it.

The hull and sterngear were sound enough but needed a good service, replacement anodes and a new coat of antifoul

They sent us drawings of what it would look like, explained the whole process in detail and committed to a timescale of just 3-4 weeks. I’m sure the other companies we spoke to would have done a good job too but the professionalism of SETAG Yachts’ approach meant we felt more comfortable going with them.

True to their word they maintained the same level of customer service and communication right the way through the process. Even before we’d started they came back with a series of mood boards to determine the kind of style and colour scheme we were looking for.

Some we liked, some we didn’t but it was a really good way of envisaging what the end result would look like. Jacqui really enjoyed the process, picking out colours, fabrics and leathers that would give our finished boat a more personal touch.

New carpets, curtains, linings and fully re-upholstered sofas transform the saloon

With their designer’s help we ended up opting for a textured fabric with a vertical weave for the bulkheads that gives the boat a more contemporary feel than the usual tan-coloured faux leather finishes.

The refit begins

Once we’d decided on the colour scheme we let them get on with it, returning just once mid-way through the refit to check on progress. Even then we didn’t go on board as we didn’t want to spoil the surprise of seeing it fully transformed for the first time.

Inevitably, there were one or two things that didn’t go exactly to plan or fell outside the scope of the original quote but SETAG were very quick to explain the situation, offer a solution and send us photos of what it looked like.

princess yacht refit

The galley needed a new hob, fridge and oven but the cabinets are original

For instance there was an issue with the lining around the dashboard that was hiding various holes where old navigation equipment had been removed. They suggested filling in the holes then covering it with a white leather panel to hide the joins at a cost of an extra £900. That aside, the whole job came in on time and on budget.

We treated the servicing of the engines, polishing of the hull and fresh antifouling and anodes as a totally separate job, as they formed part of the annual running costs rather than a one-off refit.

We did get separate quotes for that too but as SETAG came back with a quote a few pounds more than the others we agreed to go with them again.

The big reveal

On the allotted date for the big reveal, we flew over to Exeter, hired a car and drove over to Queen Anne’s Battery to meet Chris Gates at our newly refurbished boat.

We could hardly believe it was the same boat, everything about it looked totally different. The wow factor when we stepped on board for the first time was incredible. It felt like a brand new boat inside but one that had been designed and built just for us.

I am genuinely delighted with how it has turned out. I knew I was taking a risk buying a boat in that condition and inevitably it did end up costing a bit more than I’d originally budgeted for but I’m convinced the end result is better than if I’d spent the same on a secondhand boat in good condition.

princess yacht refit

Modern fabrics give a much more contemporary feel to this classic 1995 Princess 440

We cruised it back to Jersey in August and spent the rest of the summer getting to know our new boat with trips around the Channel Islands and over to Granville. The engines haven’t missed a beat and we’re now looking forward to our children joining us on board for some more extended cruising next year.

Taking into account the purchase price of the boat, the interior refit and a further £8,000 worth of exterior and mechanical works, the total bill came to around £138,000 but I don’t regret a single penny of it.

It may seem counterintuitive to buy a relatively cheap 26-year-old boat and then spend more than half as much again doing it up but not only have we ended up with a brand new interior that looks and feels far more modern than any 15-year-old boat we might have got for the same money, but it makes financial sense too.

princess yacht refit

Smart blue leather seats match the colour of the saloon sofas

Since the refit I have had our boat revalued at more than £140,000 but there’s no way I’m going to sell it now that we’ve got our own custom built boat to enjoy for the next few years.

Ex-boss of Princess Yachts launches boat design and refit firm in Plymouth

Chris Gates stepped down as MD at UK's largest luxury yacht manufacturer in 2019 but is now in charge at Setag Yachts

The former boss of luxury boat-maker Princess Yachts has launched a new motor yacht design and refit specialist company in Plymouth.

Chris Gates, who stepped down as managing director of Plymouth’s Princess Yachts in 2019 after 11 years in charge and 30 at the firm, now runs Setag Yachts.

The company, incorporated in December 2020, has just relocated from Marsh Mills to MDL Marinas’ Queen Anne’s Battery (QAB) marina in Plymouth .

With a focus on Fairline, Sunseeker and Princess Yachts, the design led company has taken a modern business unit below QAB’s marina office to house its sales office as well as its highly-skilled and experienced engineering and design teams.

Setag Yachts will also carry out its bespoke luxury refitting service onsite, occupying significant hardstanding and workshop space in the marina’s Atlantic and Tamar Buildings.

Since its launch in April 2021, Seatag Yachts has secured 20 design and refit projects, with yachts ranging from 33ft to 88ft, and budgets of between £10,000 and £1,000,000.

The relocation to MDL’s QAB marina is a strategic move to ensure the business continues to go from strength to strength, benefitting from the increased proximity to its supply chain.

“Our professional team’s collective skills and experience come from many years building luxury motor yachts in Plymouth,” said Mr Gates, Setag chief executive. “We specifically looked at where we would be best located in Plymouth, with regards to our suppliers and other marine business services.

“MDL’s Queen Anne’s Battery was ideal, having established a hub of marine businesses. But it’s more than just the location. MDL’s sustainability initiatives were also integral to our decision.

“We, too, are committed to driving positive change for the environment. We do this by building responsible and sustainable considerations into every stage of our refits. The simple act of refitting an existing yacht is the ultimate in upcycling.”

Tim Mayer, sales and marketing director at MDL, said: “We’re truly delighted to welcome Setag Yachts as a tenant at our Queen Anne’s Battery marina. As a business, its core values with regards to the environment align so well with our own.

“Setag will also be exhibiting at our Green Tech Boat Show in June. It will be showcasing how it raises the concept of ‘refit’ to a new level to encourage more people to experience the boating lifestyle on a pre-owned yacht, helping to make boating more sustainable.”

Mr Gates, now aged 60, started his working life as an engineering apprentice in 1981 learning on day-release and at night-school at what was then the College of Further Education, now named City College Plymouth.

That was while he was working at the large US engineering company Gleason Cutting Tools. He completed a HNC in mechanical and production engineering at the college in 1981 and worked for the toolmaker, which closed its Plymouth operation in 2010 with the loss of 80 jobs, until 1989.

He then joined Princess Yachts as a production controller, and went on to become manufacturing director in 1991 and ultimately managing director. He was among inspirational and high-achieving further education alumni handed prestigious Association of Colleges’ (AoC) Gold Awards in 2018, at the House of Commons, alongside Jamie Oliver, Colin Firth, Jimmy Choo, Alan Titchmarsh, Deborah Meaden, Baroness Warsi – and Plymouth’s own Charleine Wain.

Located at the entrance to Plymouth Sound with access from the A38, QAB has 235 berths for boats up to 18m. There is a wide range of marine trades on site including marine electronics, riggers, GRP repairs and engineers. With a 40-ton Wise hoist, allowing boats to be launched seven days a week, and storage ashore, the marina offers boat repair and maintenance facilities for businesses and berth holders.

Fitting out the fleet: the best superyacht refit projects of 2023

From cosmetic adaptations to complete rebuilds and technical overhauls, BOAT takes a look at the most interesting and exciting refits of 2023, starting with the mammoth transformation and rebuild of Oceanco’s Project H…

The evolution of Project H

What began as a refit project - Project H - became a complete rebuild and transformation of the 95-metre Oceanco Indian Empress ( ex- Al Mirqab ). Twenty-two years after initial delivery and this three-year rebuild, she was relaunched as the 103-metre H3 . Described by Oceanco’s Chairman Mohammed Al Barwani as a "rebirth," the collaborative project was between the original yard Oceanco and designers, The A Group , with refreshed interiors and exteriors penned by Reymond Langton .

Virtually nothing was left from the original design except her hull, which was extended by 10 metres. Far more than just a lick of paint, the yacht has a completely reimagined image, with increased window area to harness more natural light and ocean views. While she now accommodates fewer guests, this has translated into more space per guest and additional room to house more crew, elevating the service. Multiple modifications were also made to improve efficiency, including new engines and systems, now making her IMO Tier III compliant. The project has been technically classified by Lloyds Register as a new build.

Athos' award-winning extension

Fifty pairs of hands went into the comprehensive 14-month refit of the two-masted, 63.2-metre schooner Athos . The works included considerable modifications to her interior areas as well as a complex 1.25-metre extension to her canoe-style stern, optimising her increased deck space offering for charter clients.

The refit was undertaken at Huisfit, Royal Huisman 's refit arm, and brought in the original team of Hoek Design to assist with the modifications. Project manager Jeremy "Bear" Wynne from Wynne Projects praised the quality of Huisfit's work. "The multiple modifications have been beautifully done. The additions and modifications have not only improved the functionality of the yacht, they have also enhanced the appearance," he said.  This refit was so impressive that Athos won the Refitted Yachts category at the World Superyacht Awards 2023.

Overhaul of Omnia

Beginning her journey at Amels, the 61-metre Omnia ( ex-Akula) was one of a trio of pilot vessels built for the Dutch Navy in 1997 and later converted into a superyacht in 1999. She has undergone various refit and modification projects. The most recent, a 14-month project after she was sold in 2020, which combined structural, mechanical and cosmetic works of up to $14 million. Project managed by Seara Maritime , the rebuild earned a nomination in the Best Refit category at the 2023 World Superyacht Awards.

Her commercial image was overhauled by British studio H2 Yacht Design with a new wheelhouse, new main deck, new sheerline and new exterior decks. Inside, Greek design studio Karageorgiou ensured the new interiors were brighter and lighter. Omnia now hosts two more guest staterooms, accommodating up to 16 guests. The upper deck was rebuilt with the original funnel remodelled in aluminium for weight savings. Elsewhere, more than 90 per cent of machinery and systems were replaced or upgraded.

Emerald’s charter-friendly refit

The 33-year-old Feadship Emerald emerged from a transformative 16-month refit at Balk Shipyard in February 2023. Originally launched as Alfa Alfa , the 50.4-metre motor yacht has now been revitalised to meet the evolving needs of today’s charter client while mirroring the traditional Feadship design qualities. “We’ve not ripped the soul out of it; instead, the refit is giving the yacht another 20 years of life,” said James Hall of TWW Yachts . The refit has resulted in a 2.5-metre extension, with an extended cockpit and restyled stern, a hull repaint of ‘Orion Green’ to complement her new name and a reconfiguration of the sundeck with Jacuzzi. Thanks to Design Unlimited , further remodelling has been carried out inside. Emerald  is now available to charter with TWW Yachts .

From the deck up of Costa Magna

The owner of a 28.6-metre Couach was delighted with the refit works carried out by KRM Yacht . So when he upgraded to the 44.5-metre Costa Magna , he brought her to Istanbul for a full-scale strip-down and rebuild. Over this year, the yacht’s 240 square metres of teak deck will be pulled up and replaced, and her hull will be brought back to a bare shell to be repaired and repainted. Technical works will include modernising navigational equipment, replacing engines and gensets and installing a new automation system.

Built in 1983 by Turkish shipyard Turquoise , she has undergone ten refits in her lifetime, with the goal now to create a more modern-looking take on the original lines. “Having embarked on an incredible 40-year worldwide journey, the yacht is now back in Istanbul for a […] full refit,” explained the captain of Costa Magna. “We eagerly anticipate seeing Costa Magna restored to her former glory,” he added.

Perking up Pink Gin IV

Six years after sailing out of Baltic Yachts , 53.9-metre Pink Gin IV is back for a refit and refresh. The 10-month refit period will mainly see aesthetic and performance enhancements, including the yacht's reconfigured "deck geometry" and modernised sail plan.  Performance-wise, Pink Gin's bowsprit will be extended by 1.5 metres, and her single, fixed backstay will be replaced by running backstays; the ergonomics and style of the helm stations will also be modernised and new Harken winches will be installed, ensuring she is ready to maintain her position on the regatta circuit. The cabin configuration will also see some improvements, with a restyled owner's cabin. Pink Gin IV is due to splash again in May 2024.

Nuri’s new upgrades

A year after her initial launch in 2021 as RJ, t he 40.5-metre Cantiere dell Marche Nuri checked in to Pendennis’ Vilanova site for an overhaul courtesy of Boutsen Design . Designed to be a “modern spin on an explorer vessel”, Nuri – meaning “world” in Korean – now has a new look to match her new name, with a calm, tawny theme with coffee-coloured leather upholstery on the interior and touches of blue on the exterior.

As well as cosmetic changes, the team also added a spa pool with bar-stool seating, a social space with a television screen, sofa seating and alfresco dining on the sundeck, putting her in a premium position for her next charter season with Y.CO. For those more eco-conscious guests, the owner has also committed to making carbon compensation payments for clean energy projects supported by RMI at no extra cost to the charterer.

Cetacea’s technical differences

A short five-month timeframe beginning in February 2023 was all the Roscioli Shipyard in Fort Lauderdale needed to take years off the classic 40.3-metre Feadship Cetacea . The yard drilled deep into the yacht’s engine room, reconditioning the entire driveline, completing a full-electric assessment and, overhauling the stabilisers and installing a new IMO-approved sewage treatment system. Cetacea’s exterior paint was also reconditioned, and she received an upgrade to her entertainment system. Classic lines and vintage charm remain for the new buyer who took the reigns as of October this year, with an all-together younger and healthier heart.

All eyes on Lady Jade’s aft

The 41-metre Inace explorer Lade Jade completed a nine-month refit at Lusben’s repair yard in Viareggio. After an additional six metres of length was added to her exterior decks in 2018 by Alia Yachts, this most recent refit project focussed mainly on her stern, optimising extra space by reducing the size of the quarter boards to give the aft cockpit a more open feel. The ceiling on the flybridge was also extended by a metre, providing better weather coverage. Lady Jade also benefitted from a fresh lick of paint, returning her to her original midnight blue, as opposed to white.

Concentrated efforts for Isabell Princess of the Seas

The 63.7-metre Codecasa Isabell Princess of the Seas ( ex- Bash ) checked out of a refit at Croatian shipyard Capax earlier this year. Around €9.5 million worth of upgrades were funnelled into the bridge deck, main deck and master cabin, giving her a more modern look while still retaining her Italian style and classic heritage. To ensure she hits 2023 standards, she also underwent various technical upgrades with new safety systems, audio-visual systems and communication equipment. The yacht has a long legacy, previously owned by the Fayads and playing host to Lady Diana. With her new lease of life, she was snatched up in June this year by a new owner who can now reap the benefits of this refit. Isabell Princess of the Seas is managed for charter by Burgess from €290,000 per week.

Catch released with a new look

A “no expense spared” 10-month refit at Feadship’s Amsterdam shipyard has left the all-aluminium 26.6-metre sportfisher Catch in pristine condition. Originally built by Feadship in 1984, she returned to her home shipyard at the end of 2022 after a change in ownership. She was initially delivered as part of Feadship’s series of Gallant Lady yachts but was completely refurbished in 2005 after a 15-month refit. This most recent refit saw a full repaint, new teak decking on the foredeck, new teak caprail aft, revarnishing of all exterior teak, new veneer on the main deck aft, new awning on the foredeck and technical maintenance and upgrades were made to the LED lighting system. Meanwhile, inside, an additional crew cabin was configured to accommodate four crew members.

Paintjobs for Apogee

Amico’s Genoa site has been busy with the 10-month refit of the 62-metre Apogee. The Codecasa yacht was repainted from bow to stern, and her teak decks were replaced and levelled, aiming to keep her one of the charter fleet’s favourites. All stainless-steel applications and components were polished, exterior upholstery, cushion covers, and awnings were renewed, external tables and furniture were revarnished, while anchor chains and external marbles were replaced. The Limo and jet tenders were also fully refurbished and received paintjobs.

A royal refit, fit for a princess

princess yacht refit

HINDELOPEN – Princess Beatrix’s 65-year-old classic sailing yacht is undergoing an extensive refit. And as befits a yacht owner, the ex-Dutch queen — the mother of King Willem-Alexander — recently visited the refit works.

The ‘ Groene Draeck’ (The Green Dragon) is a classic, round-bottom sailing ship built in 1957 in Amsterdam. A gift from the Dutch nation to Princess Beatrix, on her 18th birthday, the boat lacks a keel but has sideboards to stay the course.

princess yacht refit

Now 84, Beatrix named the Groene Draeck after a 17th-century Dutch warship – The ‘Vlieghende Groene Draeck’ (the ‘Flying Green Dragon). The 15m (49ft) yacht has a draft of just over 1m (3.4ft). In 2007, it became the focus of a controversy over maintenance costs of €416,000 in 2005 and 2006.

The Royal Dutch Navy bore these costs, but a confidential report revealed irregularities in the maintenance. It said the engine was overhauled every five years, even though it ran for only 100 hours a year.

In 2020, the government said the defense department would remain responsible for the yacht’s upkeep and limited annual maintenance to €87,000 in the 2021-2025 period. That quickly proved unrealistic as a large-scale renovation and refit became necessary.

In May, the Royal Household explained that The Groene Draeck was built in the 1950s but that over the past 65 years had suffered from corrosion and wear and tear. Onboard electrical and other systems had become outdated, and the vessel no longer meets current safety requirements.

Overhauling the yacht, are specialists carry of Blom Shipyard, a company that makes new,  highly finished classic sailing yachts. The costs for the large-scale renovation exceed the five-year budget of  €435,000.  Princess Beatrix will bear additional costs.

Setag Yachts

Yacht refit.

One of the most common questions we are asked by potential clients is what we mean exactly when we talk about offering a yacht refit service.

A refit is not just a solution to your challenges – but instead it’s protecting your investment. A sensible way of buying, instead of solving a challenge once you’ve bought it.

The best way to understand our service is to think in terms of buying a house. When you buy a new house, what’s the first thing you do? You renovate, redecorate and revive the decor. In other words, you ensure that it is more than simply another house for you – it becomes your new home. And by doing this, you personalise it to your style and ultimately increase it’s value ready to move on in the future.

Bespoke luxury

It’s very unlikely that you will want to live with the previous owner’s colour schemes, furniture and taste in interior design. And yet this is exactly what many people do when they buy a pre-owned boat. It makes no sense: why would you sleep in someone else’s mattress and rely on outdated technology – be it the navigation system or a home entertainment that isn’t compatible with your requirements?

This is where Setag comes in.

Fairline 58 saloon interior with brown sofa and tired decor

Future proof your yacht

We offer a ‘Third Way’ for customers who previously only had the choice of buying new or compromising with a pre-owned boat that isn’t fit for their purpose.

Our design & refit service means you get the best of both worlds, truly adding value by ensuring your yacht is future proof – drawing upon the same talents who built your boat in the first place and upgrading it to tomorrow’s standard – bespoke according to your needs.

Protect your investment

There’s a lot of logic in refitting a yacht: firstly because it can create an environment of which you are the first to experience; and secondly because it makes economic sense, adding value to your yacht and protecting your investment – both your yacht and its refit when you come to sell.

And when you’re spending between half a million and £5 million on a pre-owned yacht, why wouldn’t you change it to the decor and the technology that suits you? Why would you compromise and settle for something that is second best?

That’s why a refit with SETAG Yachts makes sense.

When is it time for a refit?

The reasons for a design and refit project and the age of the yachts we have Remastered, are as varied as the vessels and the owners themselves. Generally, a refit can be carried out on a yacht between 1 – 25 years old and typically, the rework coincides with technical/engineering upgrades of which we cover.

Many owners love their yachts and how they look externally, and simply outgrow the interior. We can elevate any project, small or large and all within a very quick turnaround.

Fall in love with your boat all over again.

What is the cost of a refit?

There is a false impression about yachts that they only require a refit if they are on their last legs and are barely seaworthy. This simply isn’t the case – it should be seen as a way to futureproof your yacht and make it reflect your taste, personality and needs.

A refit by Setag is there to add value.

Redefined by Setag

Each project is truly bespoke, catering to individual needs. If you are moving into a new house, you naturally want to renovate to put your own stamp on it – to make it feel like your home. So, why would you be happy to live with someone else’s taste when it comes to your yacht?

Yachting Life

To be a yacht owner is a very special feeling. To feel the freedom of being on the water, away from the pressures of everyday life, with no deadlines but those set by the sun, is a very unique type of escape. It offers you a sense of luxury that you can rarely attain from material products – the luxury of time and space.

With SETAG, you can make a huge difference when you buy something secondhand, maybe a bit tired and then you put all of this beauty in it and you create what effectively is a brand new boat. Completely to your own liking, your own standard...creating the perfect boat for us.
Brilliant concept...new boat look and feel at pre-owned prices - by the industry experts. Recycling at its best!
The great thing is, none of this is off the shelf - I love this boat and now she’s got her frock on...this is the best money I've spent.
If you want to redefine, refit and remaster your boat who better to do it than the people who designed it in the first place? "What a fantastic idea!"
We cannot recommend the SETAG team highly enough. If you love your current boat, then for a fraction of the cost to change it, have it SETAG’d. The SY branding certainly helped us obtain a premium price. We got what we paid for her in 2017 plus what we spent with you!
I have worked with Chris for over 30 years and I’m pleased to see him develop his own brand - along with likeminded people with industry-leading expertise. The future is bright for Setag Yachts and pre-owned yacht owners, who can now refurbish their vessels to today’s - or even tomorrow's standards.
That has been one of the key selling points for us – having that personalised service and having a boat that is unique to us – is standout in its own right. We are pretty blown away…very very pleased. I think it’s fabulous…it has transformed the boat.
The perfect way to open up a new market: the "true reflection of luxury". Setag gets it: simplicity and personalisation are key – with the depth of knowledge to deliver.
Setag are probably the only company who can carry out all the tasks as a ‘one stop shop’. Other yards were reluctant to price work and needed to subcontract many tasks meaning higher costs and longer lead times. If you are in any doubt speak to Chris and his team, they know boats like no one else.
We have been waiting for this quality of service: a comprehensive, professional refit that we can rely on – because of the pedigree of its staff, with over 200 years' experience in our market.
You have put Princess magic into our beloved Broom.
Never have I come across a more able collection of professionals in this market. We have complete trust in Setag, since its team has been in the business for as long as we can remember. We're very excited to welcome this specialist refit company into our portfolio.
