1989 Bluewater Coastal Cruiser 55  Owner says "Bring All Offers" The Bluewater 55 is a tempting lady if you value space ... lots of it.  The expansive sundeck lets you enjoy the sunshine and a gentle sea breeze.  And, if the weather turns cool, there is plenty of inviting space inside.  You won't even lose the view thanks to all the windows which surround the adjoining salon and galley. Few yachts offer such elegant and elaborate interiors.  A comfortable (electric powered) sofa (three controls for each reclining seat) centers the main spacious salon (new as of January 2016) as well as a separate (electric powered) recliner to the starboard.  The stylish dinette has wrap-around seating.  Clean, linear cabinetry (recently re-finished teak) set off the well-appointed galley that boasts a full size refrigerator/freezer, separate (new) Whirlpool ice-maker, princess stove, and microwave.  Ambient lighting creates warmth throughout the entire main cabin. Fore and aft staterooms feature Queen-sized berths.  Each stateroom has a connecting head, tub (aft) and shower, a built-in Flatscreen television (new), nightstands and cedar-lined closets.  A VIP-stateroom (just across from the galley) also has a queen size berth. There's plenty of sleeping room for eight to ten guests! Powerful twin Crusader 454 engines give her surprising swiftness. Functional controls let you cruise where you want, for as long as you like.  The upper helm station offers a lot of space, security and command ease. Quote by Captain Richard Jaeckel:  "The aftermath of Hurricane Hugo presented me with a perfect opportunity for another Bluewater test with 48 mile-per hour winds and 8' to 12' seas.  Every time, the Bluewater's sharp entry sliced easily through the waves and handled just fine.  In a test run, offshore of San Francisco, I had the Bluewater surfing down the side of waves in excess of 12'.  It felt like I could reach out and touch the sea, but the boat stayed upright and undamaged.  This boat just won't get into trouble, no matter what I try to do to it."

The Lost Sea isn’t really lost so much as it’s not visible above ground. And it’s not really a sea so much as a lake.

It’s still worth the trip. Located in Sweetwater, Tenn., this underground lake offers boat tours. It holds the title of America’s largest underground lake, certified by Guinness World Records .

Before you can see the “sea,” there’s a ¾ mile walk with an incline through the Craighead Caverns, so be prepared. (Note: The caverns also offers a “wild tour” where more adventurous spelunkers can crawl around some lesser known areas.)

The caverns have been well known for centuries. They were used as council chambers for a group of Cherokee natives, for gathering saltpeter to make gunpowder during the Civil War (graffiti with the date 1863 has been carbon-dated to that time), a tavern and moonshine stills in the 1940s, and a fallout shelter in the 1950s.

But the lake itself, which covers 4.5 acres, was undiscovered for many years. It was first discovered in 1905 by 13-year-old Ben Sands, who found an opening during a drought when water levels were low. According to our guide, no one believed the boy at the time and it would be another six decades before a group of explorers found the opening again and began to study the unusual underground lake.

When your tour group arrives at the lake, you’ll see a dock with several boats. Loading up is interesting, as some folks tend to rock the boat. The lake ride itself is short but fascinating.

The lake’s rainbow trout were introduced by researchers who hoped to tag them and follow them out of the cave to see where it flows. The fish are handfed and “spoiled,” however, and refused to leave the clear water with a constant temperature of 56-degrees. Lights in the water keep the fish from becoming “cave-blind” and they live happy lives and grow fat, the guide said.

The Lost Sea opened to the public in 1965. These days, the water level is carefully maintained and any extra water is used to run the gift shop and small village of shops aboveground. The shops, a general store, ice cream parlor and glass blower, are closed from October to mid-March but the cave is open year-round. Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for kids and reservations are best made online because spots sell out quickly.

DeSantis details alarming find aboard Haitian migrant boat seized off Florida coast

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced on Friday that state law enforcement had intercepted a vessel coming to the Florida coast carrying dozens of Haitian migrants, as well as firearms, drugs and night vision gear.

"Our Florida Fish and Wildlife offices interdicted a vessel that had 25 illegal immigrants, potential illegal immigrants from Haiti in their boat. In their vessel they had firearms, they had drugs, they had night vision gear and were boating very recklessly, which would potentially endanger other folks," DeSantis said, adding that the interdiction had occurred "recently" in the last few weeks.

"That vessel was interdicted near the Sebastian Inlet and those illegal aliens were turned over to the Coast Guard for deportation," he said.

DESANTIS SENDS SOLDIERS, AIRCRAFT TO ‘PROTECT’ FLORIDA FROM ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS BOATS AMID HAITI UNREST

DeSantis made the announcement at a press conference in which he also signed three pieces of legislation to deter illegal immigration into the Sunshine State.

The Republican governor had earlier this week announced an increase of personnel and aircraft to the Florida coast in light of unrest in Haiti and the potential for an increase in migration via the sea from the conflict-hit country.

The Caribbean nation has seen a significant escalation in violence as gangs have overrun the capital, burning police stations and attacking the main airport. Gangs have also raided some of the largest prisons, releasing thousands of inmates. 

DHS WARNS HAITIAN ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS ARRIVING BY BOAT FACE ‘IMMEDIATE REPATRIATION’ 

The deployment in Florida includes 48 additional National Guardsmen with four additional helicopters, 39 officers from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, 30 additional Florida Highway Patrol officers with aircraft and drones, and 23 additional officers from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission with eight additional seacraft, according to DeSantis' office.

He stressed on Friday that this had been going on for a while, and this was an increase in enforcement and not a new operation. He said that from Jan 2023 last week, officials had assisted the Coast Guard with the interdiction of 670 vessels carrying over 13,500 illegal immigrants.

"The message is the last thing you should want to do is get on a boat and think you're going to come through from any of these islands to get to the state of Florida," DeSantis said. "The most likely scenario is you'll be stopped, and you will be returned to your country of origin."

"It's a hazardous journey, it’s not worth doing, and we have the resources to continue to keep the people of Florida safe."

On Tuesday, Rebecca Zimmerman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Homeland Defense and Hemispheric Affairs, told lawmakers that the Pentagon is "alert" to the possibility of a mass migration event, but it has also not yet seen large numbers.

"I think you’re right that the driving conditions in Haiti could very well press more people," she told Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla. "We recently approved some additional assistance we could provide to the Coast Guard."

The Department of Homeland Security has also said it is monitoring the situation, but has stressed that migration flows in the Caribbean remain "low." It also warned that those crossing face being turned back to their country of origin.

"U.S. policy is to return noncitizens who do not have a fear of persecution or torture or a legal basis to enter the United States. Those interdicted at sea are subject to immediate repatriation pursuant to our longstanding policy and procedures. The United States returns or repatriates migrants interdicted at sea to The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti," a spokesperson said.

On Friday, DeSantis also signed three pieces of legislation related to immigration. One increased the maximum sentence for people driving without a license. Another enhances penalties for crimes committed by illegal immigrants who return to the country after deportation, while the third bill states that no jurisdiction can recognize IDs that are distributed by other states to illegal immigrants.

Taiwan joins China rescue mission after boat capsizes near Kinmen

Six people were on the fishing vessel near the Taiwan-controlled islands, which lie just a few kilometres off China’s eastern coast.

Taiwan and China are conducting a joint rescue mission to find two missing crew members after a fishing vessel capsized near Taiwan’s Kinmen islands .

The boat carrying six people sank about 1.07 nautical miles (about 2km) southwest of the island chain’s Dongding islet at about 6am on Thursday (22:00 GMT on Wednesday), according to authorities in Taiwan.

Two people have been confirmed dead and two were rescued.

The area is sensitive because Kinmen is located just 5km (three miles) off China’s eastern coast.

The joint operation, which includes six Chinese rescue ships, comes a month to the day after the Taiwanese coastguard’s pursuit of a Chinese fishing boat in the area left two men dead, and added to the tensions between Taipei and Beijing.

Coastguard chief Chou Mei-wu told a parliamentary committee that Taiwan sent four boats after Chinese authorities sought help.

He said Chinese requests for assistance were common, with 119 people rescued in such efforts over the past three years or so.

“The waters are narrow around the Kinmen-Xiamen [area] and cooperation between Taiwan and China is very important,” he said, referring to the cities that face each other across the strait.

China’s coastguard began regular patrols around the Kinmen islands after last month’s incident. It also came under criticism in Taiwan after briefly boarding a Taiwanese cruise ship causing panic among the passengers.

Beijing claims Taiwan as its own territory and has not ruled out the use of force to achieve its goals.
