yacht in london hotel

Sunborn London

Docklands, London, England, United Kingdom

  • Full Review
  • A floating super yacht hotel with serious novelty factor
  • Moored right opposite Excel conference center
  • Minutes' walk from DLR train station
  • Easy access to London's City Airport
  • Relatively spacious rooms, most with water views
  • In-room Lavazza coffeemakers and Sony tablets
  • Restaurant and terrace bar with water views
  • Far from tourist center
  • No fitness facilities

Bottom Line

The 136-room Sunborn London is an upper-mid-range hotel in the form of a 394-foot super yacht moored in London's Royal Victoria Dock. Rooms are pleasant, surprisingly spacious, and most have views over the water, though decor is more cruise liner than luxury yacht. Some rooms have spacious decks and big soaking tubs; all have coffeemakers, minibars, and flat-screen TVs. Eating and drinking options are solid though lack of fitness facilities feels like an oversight. Overall, for maritime enthusiasts with business in the area it's perfect, but tourists wanting to explore the capital's attractions should look elsewhere. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Oyster Hotel Review

An upper-mid-range floating hotel set on a super yacht .

yacht in london hotel

The Sunborn London is not only the capital's only floating hotel, it's the only one occupying a 394-foot super yacht. Built without an engine, however, it was towed from its native Finland and opened as upper-mid-range water-based lodgings in 2014. From the outside -- with its sleek marine lines -- it looks every inch the luxury vessel. Inside , however, the look and feel is deliberately more traditional, with polished brass railings, teakwood paneling, and the occasional nautical touches across all five of its floors. The resulting vibe is certainly more cruise ship (albeit an attractive one) than billionaire's playground. There's plenty of outside space on deck for enjoying the surrounding docks -- if not the most attractive of views -- accompanied by the sound of planes taking of and landing at the nearby City Airport. A solid pick for the novelty factor and for guests with business at the nearby conference center, this hotel is a bit far from main tourist attractions.

Moored in Royal Victoria Dock to the east of London's Canary Wharf

The hotel is permanently moored in the London ’s Royal Victoria Dock in the Docklands area in the east of the capital. The city's largest conference and events venue -- the Excel Center -- is located right opposite while the DLR (Dockland's Light Railway) station of Custom House is just minutes away on foot. From here it's just about 15 minutes by train to London's business district of Canary Wharf. While it's not ideally located for tourists, public transport links to the city center in around half an hour. City Airport however is right nearby and takes less than 10 minutes by car.

Relatively spacious rooms with Sony tablets and Lavazza coffeemakers

yacht in london hotel

The hotel's 136 rooms are certainly a lot larger than your average cruise ship cabins, but all follow cruise liner styling with plenty of polished teak, brass trim, and maritime touches. Unlike a cruise ship, all rooms are outward facing and most have large picture windows overlooking the water (some have small furnished balconies too). Amenities include free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs plus sitting areas, and a Sony tablet for web browsing and ordering room service. Lavazza coffeemakers and minibars with free water also come standard. Clean, well-maintained bathrooms provide wall-mounted hairdryers, walk-in showers, and Molton Brown products. The top-end Yacht Executive Suite we saw had its own private sauna and large balcony.

Restaurant and terrace with water views, free Wi-Fi, and a small spa with massage treatments

yacht in london hotel

The hotel's Lands End restaurant provides a pleasant space awash with mirrored glass and teak paneling with large windows overlooking the water. A la carte and set breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus are served with British, Asian, and Mediterranean influences. The adjoining bar provides house cocktails, snacks, and meals as well as an outdoor terrace with views of Canary Wharf and the O2 arena. A small spa also provides a range of massage treatments though there are no fitness facilities on-site. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Will definitely come again”

Absolutely fabulous. Will definitely come here again. The rooms were massive, nicely laid out with a very large sofa, lavaza (I think) coffee machine, tea making facilities and fridge stocked with complimentary waters for the first night. The staff are absolutely amazing; friendly, courteous, welcoming and extremely helpful. So sorry, I can only remember Lizzie's name. The restaurant food was superb and again great staff. One suggested improvement is that it would be good if the breakfast food could be hot instead of warm and a request for a well done poached to manifested as such. I still give this hotel 5 stars as overall, the experience was fantastic and the view from the riverside view balcony was awesome.

Great facility/ poor tourist location”

The Sunborn Yacht rooms were clean, roomy and bright. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only thing we were not happy with was the location. Not knowing London well we assumed Canary Wharf as the address on all the sites was where the yacht was located however it is in Victoria Wharf. This is the conference area and at least a 10 min walk to train stations plus in the 3rd district line. This meant travelling to London anywhere was at least an hour and expensive.

Sunborn Yacht Hotel was amazing!”

We came to London to see family for my husbands birthday. The Sunborn Yacht hotel was amazing. Everyone was so friendly & we could not fault anything. Will definitely be back.

Exceptional”

What a wonderful experience Can only think of superlatives to describe our 2 nights on the Sunborn. Was lucky enough to find a deal that enabled me to book for my husband’s 75th birthday treat. Just hope another offer comes up next year as I cannot think of anywhere else in London I would want to stay. Can only reiterate everything said in other reviews. Thank you to the delightful, helpful staff who do their job so well

Perfect a Adult Getaway”

The perfect getaway for adults. For us it is only an hours drive. Close enough for all the attractions that London has to offer, but far enough away if peace and quiet is the order of the stay. Set against the backdrop of the capital, this stunning yacht ticked all the boxes. Spacious and luxurious, with your own outdoor space - perfect for smokers, taking away the need to hunt out communal smoking areas. Staff were very attentive, polite and helpful. We loved the contemporary design, the outdoor terraces and how surprisingly spacious the Yacht is. Very accessible, with lift to all decks. Comfortable and spacious lounges and the glass design allowed for magnificent views across London. We will definitely be returning very soon.

"Not your usual hotel: Sunborn London is, in fact, a 420ft yacht moored in the Royal Victoria docks, a symphony in white and charcoal which could easily have been left behind by a departing oligarch. It's well-placed for the O2 arena, London City airport and the ExCel centre."

Sunborn London - 394ft Superyacht Converted Into A Hotel

Who can afford the ₤150,000-a-week it costs to charter a superyacht? Not many. But thanks to the Sunborn London you can still experience the life of a sexy sea-dog. It is a 394ft superyacht that has been converted into a luxury hotel.

Permanently moored at Royal Victoria Dock, the financial center of Canary Wharf and the City are in easy access as if the celebrated O2 centre which hosts the biggest concerts and exhibitions. There are 138 rooms starting at a relatively modest ₤180 per night ($305) that go all the way up to a royal suite that has a sauna, sunken Jacuzzi, and a 100sq ft private terrace. There are two restaurants one for fine dining and one for a more casual experience.

The London Sunborn yacht is set to stay in London for many years to come but there’s nothing to stop it weighing anchor and setting sail if London suddenly hits financial hardship… or if stolen by pirates.

Sunborn Yacht Hotel London review – a bargain London 5* hotel or a sinking feeling?

  • 18 February 2023

The Sunborn Yacht Hotel London always looked very smart and rather a fun way to stay in London, so when I needed somewhere to stay in the East of London due to the train strikes, I thought I would give it a go. It was originally built as an ocean-going yacht but then was turned into a hotel before it was ever used as a proper yacht and actually has no engines.

In this post:

Price and booking

I booked direct with Sunborn and paid £233.10 which for a Friday in December was fairly cheap for London. This was the flexible rate which allowed cancellation until 2pm on the day. It said that if you book direct you get a complimentary upgrade. It was also one up from the base room being a river view rather than the dockside view.

If you are interested in staying there is currently a decent offer with Groupon for a Classic King Room with Dockview for Two with Breakfast from £149 per night.  They also have an offer on their own website for 20% off if you stay one night, valid for stays until the end of April 2023.

Location and The Yacht

The yacht is moored right next to the Excel so it has decent transport options within a few minutes walk. I arrived on the IFS Cloud Cable car via North Greenwich tube on the Jubilee line and caught an amazing sunset. It is around 7 minutes to walk from the cable car. There is also the Customs House that is on the DLR and Elizabeth line to the side of the Excel around 5 minutes walk away.

Check-in at Sunborn Yacht Hotel London

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Check-In

There was quite a queue when I arrived at around 3.30pm and then when I did check in it wasn’t the fastest process. The person helping me had to keep walking away to sort out a trainee on another booking which I found quite rude and it was a rather laborious process considering I had already checked in online.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel inside stairs

They asked if I wanted to leave a credit card on file, to which I agreed as I needed to use room service and also planned to have breakfast.

Sunborn Yacht Hotel London room

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Room

The Yacht Classic Riverview Room I had booked appear to only be on the lowest floor. The room did promise “excellent river views” which I got since I was practically in it, but I couldn’t see much else. The upgrade that it promises for booking direct (subject to availability, of course) was not forthcoming either.

There was often a long wait for the lifts as you had to use them even to get from reception to the way out one level above.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Room Door

My first impression of the room was good, being a large size and more like a Junior Suite. There was a desk for working or doing your hair/make-up with a socket nearby and a huge mirror. However, the light in the room was quite dark in this area.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel TV

The TV was a bit ancient (a bit like the decor) but it did the job.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Nespresso Machine

There was a Lavazza coffee machine and a kettle and even some biscuits, which always cheers me up in a hotel room (simple things…). There was also a fridge with two bottles of free water.

Hildon water in Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Refrigerator

I liked that there was a large area for you to lay out your suitcase for unpacking. There was more storage space than most people could ever want or need unless you were staying more than a week.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Towel

The bed sadly was not comfortable at all and I ended up with back ache after tossing and turning all night. As I always caveat, I am very sensitive to beds, having paid a lot of money for a great Hyponos one at home. When I looked in closer detail I could see why as the mattress was incredibly thin.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel bedside table

The bathroom was also not particularly luxurious and definitely felt like a yacht bathroom being very small.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Bathroom

Toiletries were provided which did the job but were nothing special.

Prija

The towels were rather thin and old too.

Food and drink at Sunborn Yacht Hotel London

I needed to eat something before I headed out for the night since I had not had lunch either. There was a fair choice on the room service menu but I went for the standard burger as I knew it was likely to be a fairly boozy evening that needed some sustenance.

Burger

It arrived in around 25 minutes but was missing my drink, so I had to wait quite a while for them to fetch that as well, which was annoying. I also found it very odd that I had to pay the delivery person directly when I left a card with reception. I have never experienced that before. You could see the menu from a QR code and order online, which I like. The burger was tasty, and it was good to get a chutney on the side.

ApplesApp

Breakfast was not included, but for the sake of the review, I went to try it. Again it was weird that I had to pay with my card when I came in. None of this leaves a very luxury hotel-type impression.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel stairs

The breakfast was a buffet which was set out with the food in one place and then the tea and coffee somewhere separate. I ended up with coffee as when I first went up there was no tea available.

Sunborn London Yacht Hotel Inside

The buffet had a reasonable selection including a full cooked english, smoked salmon, meats and cheeses along with pastries and bread.

Bread Selection

The way it was presented was a bit odd as it didn’t look great and made it hard to see what there was.

As well as the restaurant which is also open for afternoon tea and dinner, there is the Sundown bar which would be lovely for sitting outside in the summer. (Not so much in the snow!)

While this is not really what I would call a luxury hotel experience, you do get a lot of space in your room, which you would struggle with in many hotels. It is certainly a unique experience, and for something that is a decent price and fairly smart, it is not a bad choice. Would I rush back again? No, but if I was attending something at the Excel I would consider it if the price was right.

Thanks Michele for highlighting this deal, and for giving an honest and thorough review. It doesn’t sound perfect, but I’m giving it a go next month as the price is reasonable for London and it helps solve a problem that was coming up! It’s always good to hear here about places that are a bit different.

Thankyou for your review, I also may consider this in the future. I was shocked at your picture of how thin the mattress was! Did you leave feedback for management on the concerns you raised in your report? I would be interested to know their reply if they do get back to you if you did let them know. You don’t mention how much you paid for breakfast and your burger meal. I guess we could check this online in advance?

Thankyou once again for your time. Please keep up your reviews, I find them really interesting 🙂

Thanks Rob. I don’t generally leave feedback unless it is a fault in service that they can rectify. Most brands and hotels read the reviews anyway via their PR agency. The burger was £18.50, and I think breakfast was around £18 also.

Hi Michelle, Thankyou very much for your reply. Much appreciated.

Agree with your review Michele. We were underwhelmed by the yacht – we did pay full price. Horrid decor, average service and that annoying lift to get off the boat!

Thank you Michele saved me some money as I was thinking about staying here. Now I think I will find somewhere else. Love an honest review

The Best Hotels In Mykonos For 2024 If You're Planning A Glamorous Greek Island Escape

Super-stylish hotels in Mykonos, the starriest of all the Cyclades

best hotels in mykonos

There may be many places to party in the Greek islands, but few destinations can lay claim to this much glitz and glamour – especially when you can rest your heads at the best hotels in Mykonos.

The star-frequented Cycladic island (check out our list of the best hotels in Santorini if you're after the more romantic isle) has swapped sleepy fishing villages for jet-set-friendly parties, soundtracked by international DJs dropping in. There are beach clubs for the yacht crowd, buzzy bars and nightlife, and global restaurant brands that every self-respecting A-list-attracting destination simply has to have (we're looking at you, Zuma).

Along with golden beaches and its cobblestoned main town, the island’s other landmarks are whitewashed sugar-cube structures and its iconic 16th-century windmills. See the sea-edge houses in the artist-favoured Little Venice area, or sail over to uninhabited Delos for an archaeological education.

Relatively new arrivals to the island include super-cool Cali and Kalesma , the latter of which translates as 'inviting' in Greek so we have high hopes. Cali is home to what must be the best (and likely longest) pool on the island – it's also on a much quieter corner of the island, over in Kalafatis Beach, making it the perfect place to recuperate if you've partied a little too hard.

Bill & Coo is worth a trip just to see its LED-lit pool – and its Valmont spa and Beefbar outpost aren’t bad either.

Vegans (and anyone hoping to give being one a try) will love the hotel dedicated to their diet: Koukoumi creates plant-based perfection at every mealtime. These are the best hotels in Mykonos for 2024…

Santa Marina Mykonos

santa marina mykonos

Nestled on the edge of the peninsula with a traditional island village aesthetic, Santa Marina’s rooms and villas play host to easy-going luxury. Most of the contemporary-styled 105 rooms and 12 villas look out onto idyllic views of the sea and all are staggered at various levels on the hillside, enveloping you in the Greek hills and offering a welcome sense of privacy.

You’ll want to spend copious amounts of time by your private pool here, but the rest of Santa Marina has plenty to offer. The resort has been a favourite for 40 years, offering a relaxed but lavish feeling, coupled with impeccable service (where every coffee and egg order is well remembered). Staying at Santa Marina grants you access to the resort's very own private beach, a variety of restaurants and the Ginkgo spa, where treatments are exclusively devised by ESPA and 111SKIN.

As a result, you'd be forgiven for never wanting to leave the gates of Santa Marina. However, if you did brave venturing out, guests can hire a boat to explore the island of Delos, known as one of the most important mythological, historical, and spiritually energetic sites in Greece which has played an important role in Greek history for the past 2000 years.

Cali Mykonos

best hotels in mykonos

Mykonos has been one of Greece’s most-visited destinations for decades now, but somehow Cali still managed to carve out a quiet corner of the island when it debuted on these glamorous Cycladic shores this season (after a soft launch last summer). It’s well away from the action in sleepy Kalafatis, with its own tiny cove and wondrous views of neighbouring isles.

There are standalone villa-style suites, each of which has a private pool; golf buggies whizzing you up and down the resort’s steep slopes; and a slick lobby with an ornamental pool you’ll want a dip in – but the star of the show is undoubtedly the lengthy (we’re talking 110 metres) infinity pool, which stretches along the edge of the cliff. The hotel also has a jetty with a small fleet of yachts and skipper on hand for touring the southern shores of Mykonos and dropping anchor at nearby beaches, such as Agios Ioannis and Agia Anna (or indeed, the clothing-optional Elia), famous beach clubs like Jackie O’ or restaurants in a cave above the water (Spilia). And Cali Mykonos is set to get even better in time for the 2024 season, when the spa and sushi restaurant will be unveiled.

This may be one of the world’s ultimate see and be seen places, but the chances are you’ll be quite content in your secluded Cycladic sanctuary at Cali. For when you are eventually ready to emerge, Mykonos is now the proud owner of a Zuma restaurant, which has a pool and beach-club vibes, as well as its signature superb Japanese food – the views at sunset are absurd.

Bill & Coo

best hotels in mykonos

One of the island’s original blow-out boltholes, Bill & Coo is still among the hottest places to stay on Mykonos – not least because of its sparkling LED-lit pool, stellar service and rooms that have day-beds on a deck above their plunge pool. At the Valmont spa, book in for a facial to ensure party-ready skin or a massage on the off chance you're not feeling relaxed enough.

Over at the hotel's newly expanded sister site in Agios Ioannis, there’s a Beefbar outpost awaiting on the beach – the jet-set-approved restaurant brand is seen at self-respecting stays the world over. Beefbar may be most famous for the 50:50 butter-to-potato ratio in its indulgent mashed potatoes, but also serves delicious salads and lighter dishes suited to a scorching Greek summer. This seaside restaurant is precisely where you should seek shade (and ceviche) beneath a mulberry tree.

The other site is a few minutes' walk from Mykonos Town, so you'll be within easy reach of the action but dreamily secluded from it, too. DJs are on hand to soundtrack your sunsets before you've even officially started your night out.

Kenshō Ornos

best hotels in mykonos

Mykonos Town is often heaving in high summer, so for something a little quieter, check in to a hotel in another part of the island. A short drive from the town centre in the village of Ornos Bay – where you get beaches in both directions, since it’s at the island’s slimmest point – Kenshō Ornos is a boutique hotel with just 35 rooms and a rooftop terrace with impressive views. It also has a cave spa (the only one on the island), where you can relax after your Codage Paris treatment on sensory beds that change colour and make soothing sounds like jungle noises to relax you even further (or send you to sleep).

The rooms are stacked up and down the hillside, with a small outdoor pool to hang out at during the day. Refreshment is on hand from the restaurant in the form of delicious gyoza and possibly the world’s best calamari. For sundown, head up to the terrace, which has a hot tub as an added bonus to the views.

And for a room with a view, book the aptly named Vista Suite and enjoy the panoramas out across Ornos Bay and beyond from your spacious terrace.

Bonzoe Homes & Villas

best hotels in mykonos

The stone-lined sanctuary your Greek-island dreams are made of, Bonzoe is a complex of suites and villas close to Mykonos Town, and all of its shopping, coffee-drinking and partying potential. Picture your dream Greek idyll and the chances are you've thought up something similar to these self-contained suites, each of which has an outdoor area with a pool, dining space and classic Cycladic minimalism – and most have a view of the Aegean Sea, too. The whitewashed sugar-cube structures are arranged with stone walls ensuring maximum privacy.

Couples will love the sea-facing one-bedroom option, but there’s also a three-bedroom villa that’s great for groups hoping to take the hedonism seriously. Helpfully, the concierge is on hand to arrange yacht charters or helicopter tours of the island for those who want to experience Mykonos the authentic (read: flashy) way.

best hotels in mykonos

Close to the island’s iconic windmills, Bohème gives guests yet more whitewashed Cycladic architecture in the form of its traditional suites, many of which have outdoor Jacuzzis. More contemporary additions include statement lighting, retro chairs and fans that mimic those windmills. The decor lives up to the name, with bohemian wicker and a beige and white palette ensuring breezy, laid-back vibes.

The mountainside setting means views of the Aegean, the port and Mykonos Town, often visible from the terraces and balconies of the 20 rooms. It’s close to the artists’ quarter of Little Venice, too. If you can bear to drag yourself away, the staff can arrange hire cars for you to explore the island with, along with on-site spa treatments tempting you to simply stay put. There’s also a poolside restaurant and an especially good resident mixologist creating delicious cocktails to ensure your time in Mykonos lives up to the island's party-hard reputation.

best hotels in mykonos

Traditional Myconian architecture meets modernity at Branco , a boutique beach hotel in the seaside village of Platis Gialos. Whale music is swapped out for the sounds of actual waves in the spa-treatment cabin, and the shorefront is also the setting for yoga classes. The sea gets a starring role in most of the suites, too.

The breezy terrace is the perfect place to enjoy some super-fresh seafood, but the staff can also pick out secluded, romantic spots for private dinners. And for the ideal light lunch for a hot summer's day, there's a sushi menu on hand for orders that can be served straight to your sunlounger. If you're in need of heartier substance however, there are classic Greek dishes ready to come to the rescue, including a typical pastitsada pasta dish.

Activities at the beach include windsurfing, parasailing and, of course, yacht trips; inland, trails lead to hillside lookouts that are especially dreamy at sunset.

My Mykonos Hotel

best hotels in mykonos

A more affordable option in an oligarchs’ playground, My Mykonos doesn’t skimp on style, joining its pricier counterparts in a celebration of rattan ceilings, hanging lamps, whitewashed walls and polished concrete. The decor also features ikat headboards with matching cushions, and pod chairs that are perfect for shade-seeking with a good book.

Hang out in a cabana or on a charcoal sunlounger by the curving main pool, or blow the budget by booking a suite with its own plunge pool.

My Mykonos Hotel is a 10-minute walk into Mykonos Town for those in search of cobblestones, windmills and blue shutters (along with bars, restaurants and boutiques). And it’s also close to the port for anyone making the wise choice of a summer spent Greek island-hopping and arriving to Mykonos by ferry.

Grace Mykonos

best hotels in mykonos

Stacked up above the sandy shores of Agios Stefanos, Grace Mykonos is as elegant as its name suggests. Guests can expect all of the hallmarks of an indulgent hotel experience (yes, there’s a pillow menu), and the decor keeps up with classic Cycladic style: neutral tones and bright white walls, with some colourful artworks, too.

The prime spots by the Aegean-edge pool are (obviously) the cabanas, especially when it’s sundowner o’clock, but sea views are also delivered straight to the Jacuzzi in some rooms. And for anyone in need of more pampering, there’s a spa for manicures, body scrubs and facials.

Nomad Mykonos

best hotels in mykonos

Alcoves and archways form the backdrop of this hotel near Kalo Livadi Beach, which sticks to the island’s unofficial colour code of taupe, concrete and white. Each suite at Nomad has a terrace, enhanced by a private pool or hot tub, and much of the hotel was crafted by artisans from all over the Cyclades, including local carpenters and marble-working magicians.

Handily for anyone usually in need of a nap after a drink, the bar has a few hammocks to fight over – and, in keeping with the nomadic theme (but in no other way coming close to your average campsite), there’s a fire-pit, too.

Amyth of Mykonos

best hotels in mykonos

Steps from the village of Agios Stefano and consisting solely of suites, Amyth of Mykonos mixes a little taste of Tulum into its Myconian magic. The island’s favourite bohemian decor is alive and well, with wicker wall hangings, a neutrals-only palette and a liberal use of thatch (and not just on the beach parasols). There’s also plenty of plants, classical ceramics and artfully worn tan leather chairs.

The staff at the pool bar get creative with cocktails, the breakfasts are art forms and even the chips and dips around here are elevated.

Koukoumi Vegan Boutique Hotel

best hotels in mykonos

Possibly the only hotel we’ve come across with the word ‘vegan’ in its name, Koukoumi is a noble ambassador of the plant-based movement – and a great option for anyone who’d like to give veganism a try but needs a little inspiration first.

In fact, it’s the only vegan hotel in all of Greece, but even committed carnivores will enjoy the creative food on offer. The inland hotel, in the village of Ano Mera, also has a wellness and fitness programme as part of its mission to ensure its guests feel great.

The Wild by Interni

best hotels in mykonos

On a cliffside above the Aegean, the Wild by Interni is named after the fearless fishermen nicknamed ‘the Wild Ones’ who once stewarded the cove below. Mykonos may be a starry island now, but the hotel aims to recreate a simpler side of its past, when it was mostly just sleepy fishing villages. There are 40 rooms, suites and villas overlooking the water, with some that have two bedrooms, private plunge pools and even their own dining room if you want to get fancy. The decor includes handcrafted lamps and floors, woven baskets and plenty of natural materials. Unsurprisingly, slow food is the order of the day at the restaurant, which uses both local produce and traditional techniques.

Santa Marina

best hotels in mykonos

Mykonos is one of the flashiest islands in Greece and it has the luxury hotels to prove it – one of its finest is Santa Marina , which has been an island institution since the Seventies. The Ornos Bay retreat has expanded over the past few decades – the original estate, which included a chapel and windmill (this is Mykonos after all), now has villas set along the hillside. It’s also home to an Espa and 111Skin spa, two infinity pools, a private beach and various restaurants and bars to work your way through.

best hotels in mykonos

With a name that means ‘inviting’, Kalesma was always going to give its guests a warm welcome – which it does, and so much more. The recreated Myconian village leads down a hillside to Ornos Bay. As well as the constant coastal views, you’ll also be perfectly placed for both sunrise and sunset. Each room has its own heated pool, along with a terrace that has sunloungers facing the Aegean, and a shower out on your patio. For when you’re (eventually) ready to leave, Mykonos Town is three kilometres away.

Myconian Ambassador

best hotels in mykonos

On Mykonos’s southern shores, Myconian Ambassador may be in a quieter part of the island, but if you want a party, you’ll only have to stroll over to Psarou to ogle the super-yachts or Paranga to dine at a lively local-approved taverna. It’s close to Scorpios beach club, too. The concierge will be able to organise boat trips over to Delos and Rhenia, two far sleepier neighbouring islands – or simply traverse the few steps down to Platis Gialos beach, helpfully on the hotel’s doorstep.
