ACCESSIBILITY

Our Southampton yard is built right at the heart of Solent sailing, only ten minutes from the city centre and an hour’s sail from the Isle of Wight, Hythe and Hamble. Our Chatham base services those in London and up the east coast.

For those a little further away, we operate a fully mobile service; marina, swinging mooring, boatyard or even your back garden – wherever your yacht is in the UK. We have connections with yards across the country for large jobs, or our experienced delivery crews can move your boat to one of our bases.

FACILITIES  

Rigit facilities include a 43m crane capable of servicing masts up to 35m, a 75-tonne travel lift for boats up to 6m beam, the UK-only 37m dedicated mast spray booth with ventilation and temperature control and Lloyd’s certified 4-27mm swaging machines. Our yard also includes dedicated marina pens for boats undergoing work, a 37m workshop and mast and boom storage racks.

Rigit's standard rig inspection service is a visual check of everything above deck. After spending time on board we will have everything we need to prepare a written report. Based on a working knowledge and wide experience of mast terminations, rigging components and geometry, our experts can identify any problems and give recommendations for improvement or replacement.

Marina & Berthing

An easily-accessible haven on the east coast.

Whether you are a long-standing berth holder or a weekend visitor, SYH provides a friendly welcome and a range of onsite services and facilities.

Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH) has 550 marina berths and additional swinging moorings.

The marina has berthing for yachts up to 21.3m (70 feet) with a maximum draft of 2.5m (8.2 feet).

The berthing office is open from 8.00am to 5.30pm, seven days a week, except for the Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

Visiting yachts.

If you are visiting Suffolk Yacht Harbour (SYH), you will need to request a temporary berth or mooring via the berthing office. Upon arrival at the marina, visit the berthing office, located within the main reception building.

Wifi, Power & Water

All pontoon berths have 16amp metered power hook-ups and fresh water nearby. Electricity and wifi is included in the fees for visiting yachts.

Haven Ports Yacht Club

Located in the famous red LV78 lightship, HPYC offers a warm welcome, food and drinks for members and visitors.

Security & CCTV

CCTV is in operation throughout the marina.

Self-launch Slipway

A slipway is available near the fuel berth for self-launchers and berth-holders. Contact the marina office or chandlery to find out more.

Marine Businesses

Eleven marine businesses operate onsite at SYH, including a classic boat chandlery, sail making, rigging, engineering and electronics.

Toilets & Showers

The marina has three state-of-the-art shower facilities, which are free for berth holders and visitors.  One is located opposite the lightship, one at the east end of the harbour, and one at the west end of the harbour. Contact the chandlery or berthing office for the access code.

SYH’s facilities for visiting yachts include laundry, recycling facilities, and electric vehicle charging.

A one stop shop

From repairs to regattas, chandleries and berthing, SYH is a thriving hub of marine activity.  With modern workshops and a suite of lifting and launching capabilities, SYH’s experienced in-house team is able to offer an array of services.  Marina users also have access to SYH’s 11 onsite businesses from sail making to rigging, electronic, stainless steel fabrication and sailing schools.

Fox's Marina based in Ipswich, Suffolk is a small, independently run marina offering great value berthing and storage for yachts and motorboats. As part of a large, working boatyard, we have extensive and skilled boat handling capability, as well as an experienced, in-house yacht refit and repair  team – so there are very few technical issues we can’t find a solution to!

Fox’s Marina & Boatyard continues to be the preferred commissioning base for a number of new boat builders and yacht manufacturers, including Beneteau and Oyster. Our on site rigging, electronics and engineering departments offer approved installations, servicing and commissioning health checks for the leading engine, rigging and electronics suppliers, whilst our extensive workshops and stainless fabrication departments can offer timely modifications and bespoke design solutions.

Our commissioning and layup services are available to all. Why not ensure that your yacht is kept safe, secure, and in optimum condition whilst not in use over the winter months, and is prepared ready to go when it’s time to take to the seas? Our comprehensive services can include thorough checks to the main engine, gearbox, plumbing and seacocks, testing of the generator, checks to rigging and sail handling systems, deck gear, winches, and much more.

Cocaine smugglers jump off boat holding £39m drug haul

Two drug smugglers who hid 350kgs of cocaine worth £39m in the hull of a boat tried to shake off pursuing Border Force officials by jumping into the sea.

Bruce Knowles, 55, from Dereham and Ferhat Gumrukguoglu, 31, from the Netherlands, were travelling in a RHIB speedboat just offshore from East Benacre Broads in Suffolk, when they were approached by the Border Force after officers noticed them acting suspiciously.

The video shows the moment Gumrukguoglu dived off the moving vessel and swam toward the beach to avoid arrest.

Following a short chase, the boat was stopped in the shallow water and officers moved in to arrest Knowles, but he also jumped overboard in a bid to escape.

Border Force officers were able to catch up with and arrest Knowles, while Norfolk and Suffolk police pursued Gumrukguoglu after he fled from the beach, arresting him later that day in Wrentham - a village two miles inland.

The boat was towed to a harbour in Lowestoft where it was searched by National Crime Agency officers, who found the haul of drugs hidden under tarpaulin.

Investigators believe Knowles and Gumrukguoglu travelled towards French waters to pick up the drugs from a larger ship, before bringing them back to the UK.

Both men were interviewed and gave no comment, but were subsequently charged with importing a controlled drug.

They pleaded guilty to the offence at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday.

NCA branch commander Lydia Bloomfield said: “Knowles and Gumrukguoglu knew they were going to lose a huge quantity of drugs when they were intercepted at sea by our Border Force colleagues.

“Both were working for a wider organised crime group, who will now feel the effects of a loss of this amount.

“Thanks to the work of our Border Force and Joint Maritime Security Centre partners, a very significant amount of class A drugs have been removed from the criminal marketplace where they would have fuelled further criminality and exploitation."

In recent years, the quality of wood has improved significantly with some manufacturers, laser cutting or milling was added. Also the quality of the parts for example by finished brass etched parts has become better. Anyone who is intensively engaged in ship modelling will not get around the purchase of expensive books and machines at some point. The supply of excellent parts has increased by leaps and bounds, and with your own skills, expertise and precise machines you can build excellent models today. You still have to build the shipyourself, the result can vary greatly even with good materials. Family of Mike Lynch's co-defendant who died after car accident days before yacht sinking pay tribute

Stephen Chamberlain and the tech tycoon had faced charges of fraud and conspiracy but were acquitted by a US jury in June. He was involved in a collision with a car in Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

The family of Mike Lynch's co-defendant in a recent US fraud trial have paid tribute to a "much-loved husband, father, son" after it was confirmed he died following a road accident that occurred a couple of days before the British tech tycoon went missing.

Stephen Chamberlain, the former vice president of the finance company Autonomy, was hit by a car while out running in Cambridgeshire on Saturday morning, his lawyer said.

Mr Chamberlain had faced the same charges of fraud and conspiracy as his former boss Mr Lynch - one of six people reported missing after a luxury yacht was struck by an unexpectedly violent storm and sank off Sicily early on Monday.

He had been accused of allegedly scheming to inflate the value of Autonomy, then Britain's largest software firm, before it was sold to Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011.

In a statement released by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, his family said in a statement: "Steve was a much-loved husband, father, son, brother and friend.

"He was an amazing individual whose only goal in life was to help others in any way possible.

"He made a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

"He will be deeply missed but forever in the hearts of his loved ones."

Mr Chamberlain and Mr Lynch were acquitted of all 15 charges by a jury in the fraud case in San Francisco in June.

In a statement on Monday, Mr Chamberlain's lawyer, Gary Lincenberg, who described him as a "dear client and friend", said he had died after being "fatally struck" by a car while out running near Stretham.

At the weekend police in Cambridgeshire appealed for witnesses and information after a man in his 50s, from Longstanton, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The force said a blue Vauxhall Corsa was travelling between Stretham and Wicken on the A1123 when it collided with a pedestrian at about 10.10am in Newmarket Road. On Tuesday, it renewed its appeal.

The force added in a statement: "The driver of the car, a 49-year-old woman from Haddenham, remained at the scene and is assisting with enquiries."

Meanwhile, a search for Mr Lynch, 59, is still under way after a UK-flagged superyacht named Bayesian sank .

One person is dead and the British tech billionaire, who owned the 56-metre vessel (183ft), is one of six people missing, including several of others Mr Lynch has worked with.

Mr Lynch's 18-year-old daughter Hannah is among those missing after his yacht sank, local media reports, however his wife Angela Bacares is confirmed to be among the 15 people who were rescued after it capsized at about 4.30am local time (3.30am UK time) on Monday.

Mr Chamberlain worked as Autonomy's vice president of finance until he left in 2012 to work as chief operating officer for cybersecurity firm Darktrace, a firm founded by Invoke Capital, which itself was owned by Mr Lynch.

The sale of Autonomy was the biggest tech takeover of a FTSE 100 firm at the time - but HP wrote down £5.5bn of the company's value within a year, claiming revenue streams were inflated.
