Royal motor yacht club

Introduction.

The royal motor boat club is situated within the area of Poole Harbour in Dorset on the southern coast of the United Kingdom. Comprising of over 1600 members and steeped in a history and tradition of over a hundred years it�s a good choice for boating enthusiasts in the local area. The location boasts beautiful views of the Brownsea castle. The royal motor yacht club opens its doors for sailing and motor boating enthusiasts alike and holds social events and races throughout the calendar year.

Eighty members came together on 1905 to found the royal motor yacht club; all were enthusiastic and like minded boating gentleman who originally founded the royal motor yacht club to encourage the sport of motor boating. Its original members comprised of yacht designers, marine engineers and even a torpedo inventor. As years went by the club branched out and now embraces both sailing and motor boating and holding over 1600 members. In January 1906 the royal motor yacht club was granted the privilege by king George the 5th to wear the blue ensign of his majesties fleet and club members went on to wear the ensign on two separate occasions. In 1908 just three short years after its founding the club was asked to organize the Olympic motor boat races for the 1908 Olympic Games which they honourably accepted and they held the event the 28th and 29 of August that year in the Southampton waters.

The main facility that the royal motor yacht has is its clubhouse just named the clubhouse, a building that holds true traditional values and is steeped in history itself. Complete with a restaurant happily named the grill room and a well stocked bar relaxing or fine dining is fully achievable in the clubhouse. Even a leisurely game of snooker can be had in the bar area. A smart appearance is the acceptable dress code throughout the bar and restaurant during lunch times, and a formal one is asked for when dining at the restaurant during evening meals.

Social calendar

Festive theme nights are a plenty throughout the year and dress up for occasions can be fun from a Caribbean evening complete with steel drums and rum punch to a New Years Eve party celebration overlooking the water. Even Halloween is not forgotten with members dressing adequately for the occasion. Out on the water the social events consist of treasure hunts run throughout the year and a great family orientated event. Even raft up competitions run pitting members against each other to learn the skill and craft. Away from the clubhouse the royal motor yacht club organizes many visits to other entertainment venues such as shows/theatre, sporting events and trips to various historical locations. There are also visits to other motor yacht clubs a great way to meet new and other people with similar interests. The royal motor yacht club also holds races on an annual tradition this year�s event (12th June 2010) saw 36 competitors compete in the different race events held over the day.

Bar and Catering

Our south facing first floor offers panoramic views of the Top Triangle of Poole Harbour, where most of our dinghy racing occurs. With beautiful sunsets to the west. The balcony and patio below allow for al fresco dining.

The entire first floor is used for major Club events such as the weekly winter Quiz nights and our regular live music parties. It can also be divided into a lounge are, separate dining area and our versatile Skylight lounge which can accommodate large dining tables, meetings, film evenings and presentations. There is a full sized snooker table available to members for 20p per 30 minutes! No booking required.

Our light and airy restaurant ensures you are perfectly placed to soak up the views of Poole Harbour which are stunning at any time of day or night.

We offer an extensive menu ranging from lite bites through to a delicious three course meal, as well as a daily ‘specials’ board using local produce wherever possible.

Due to its popularity, the restaurant can get busy and we strongly recommend that you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
