A rare look inside Nord, the $500 million megayacht of Russia’s richest man Alexei Mordashov. The 464 feet long tuxedo donning warship has palatial interiors. For extra fun, its garage has a hovercraft, a deep-diving submarine, ATV’s, a few Toyota Land Cruisers, and more.
The video shows us first-hand the elegance and enormousness of a megayacht in the truest sense of the term. From seemingly unending corridors to well-appointed interiors and the most insane tender garage, the Nord is a massive ship that’s impressive from the word go.

The annual running costs are an incredible $40 Million per year due to her massive 142-meter length.
Yacht NORD interior
The interior of the NORD yacht was developed by Nuvolari Lenard, an Italian yacht designer who also worked on the exterior of the impressive vessel.
Twenty-four guests can be accommodated in twelve luxurious cabins, including a spacious owner’s suite. There is additional space below the deck for up to 40 crew members.
Although exact details of the interior of NORD remain private and unknown to the public, the yacht is said to have two elevators, a large gym, a sauna, a beauty salon, and a cinema.
Lenard and his design studio are known for their upscale and aesthetically pleasing layouts, which are usually kept in earth tones and natural colors.
The Italian designer also worked on Mordashov’s smaller yacht, the LADY M, where he designed both the interior and exterior.
NORD specifications
The NORD yacht has a total length of 142 meters (465.1 ft). Her beam is 19.5 meters (64 ft) long, and her draft measures 5.4 meters (17.9).
The massive yacht weighs 9,259 tons. Her four MTU engines allow her to reach top speeds of 25 knots, although her average cruising speed lies closer to 20 knots.
NORD exterior
The exterior of the NORD yacht was designed by Nuvolari Lenard and his experienced Italian design studio which is considered one of the most exclusive in the world.
The yacht is white with dark blue elements on the top decks, creating a streamlined effect and making the vessel appear even more elegant.
She has two separate helipads, one of which even has a collapsible helicopter hangar that can store smaller aircraft.
On the aft of the yacht, there is a sizeable swimming pool and beach club. NORD has a high-quality steel hull and impressive aluminum superstructure.

Revealed: Luxury interior of Russian oligarch’s $500m superyacht after he sails it to Vladivostok ‘to evade Western sanctions’
The sumptuous interior of a sanctioned Russian oligarch’s yacht was exposed after customs officers posted a video on social media .
Alexei Mordashov’s $500 million floating palace Nord docked in Vladivostok after he reportedly feared it would be seized in the Seychelles .
Normally Moscow ’s billionaire set ply the waters of more exotic locations, and the sight of the 465ft Nord has stunned locals in Russia’s Pacific capital.
They are rushing to take selfies with the elite vessel, and customs officers who inspected the ship on arrival in port.
They were escorted around the ship by one of the crew, wearing shorts.
The video shows how well 56-year-old oligarch Mordashov - worth $21.2 billion according to Forbes - has done since he graduated from Northumbria University in England.
“We can see the interiors of several decks, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado cars, all-terrain vehicles, jet skis, motor boats, and a bathyscaphe,” said one local media account.
On a tour of the ship, a customs officer looks inside the 5-star facilities and says: “Business class room.”
The crew member corrects him saying: “First class”.
A customs man inspects one of several drinks cabinets, and comments disapprovingly: “No Russian vodka.”
The oligarch’s study was shown, and a shower room and pantry.
Mordashov is the main owner of Severstal, Russia’s largest steel and mining company.
Due to the video, the smart interior of the ocean-going yacht with its own swimming pool has been exposed for all to see.
“This is how the wealthy live even when they’re sanctioned,” said one comment.
“Mordashov won’t get any sympathy here.”

Andrey Prokopchuk, a trade unionist, said: “Previously, serious guys used to tattoo the word ‘North’ [Nord] on their arms.”
It meant they had served time in a jail in Siberia or the Arctic.
“Today our serious boys have changed and named their mega-yachts like this.”
Others were more sympathetic.
“I am amazed at the ingenuity of the owner of this beauty,” said Yulia Ivanova.
“To sail this work of art for 20 days to its native land.”
The yacht costs $50 million to run but it remains out of reach of Western countries while in Russian waters.
Another Mordashov yacht worth $71 million and property worth $116 million was seized in Italy due to EU sanctions.
“I have absolutely nothing to do with the emergence of the current geopolitical tension and I do not understand why the EU has imposed sanctions on me,” he told Russian state news agency TASS.

Nord Yacht: An Insider’s Guide
The Nord yacht was known as Project OPUS when it was still being built. It is one of the largest yachts in the world and was launched back in 2021. Like many yachts in the last year this was the target of international investigations and sanctions. However, unlike some other vessels, Nord managed to elude authorities and return to Russian waters. As such it has not been seized and no sanctions have been imposed against its owner insofar as the yacht is concerned.
According to reports, the owner was aware that a potential seizure was imminent where the boat was docked in the Seychelles. To avoid sanctions, a staggering $465,000 worth of fuel was pumped into the vessel before it set sail to Vladivostok in Russia. The non-stop journey was undertaken at full speed and covered 6,701 nautical miles which is pretty amazing. In order to make this work, the yacht had to shut off its mandatory location responders to evade notice by authorities.
Since that time, it has ventured out again and has been seen in Hong Kong, South Korea, the Maldives and, in 2023, it returned to the Seychelles.
Nord is one of the most expensive yachts ever built and features a vast array of features and amenities designed to give passengers a full luxury experience at sea.
Who is the Nord Yacht Owner?
The Nord is owned by Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov (sometimes spelled Alexey Mordashov). Mordashov is the chairman and largest shareholder of Russia’s biggest steel and mining company Severstal. Though there are a number of billionaires in Russia, Mordashov ranks first if his family wealth is included. His fortune is estimated to be around $30 billion.
How Big is the Nord Yacht?
The Nord is an absolutely massive 466 feet in length, making it one of the largest yachts in the world . The beam of the vessel measures in at 64 feet while the displacement is 9,250 gross tons. It features a 17.7 foot draft and has the capacity to handle up to 36 guests at one time.
How Fast is the Nord and What Engines Does it Use?
Sources actually don’t agree on the internal working of the Nord. Lurssen, the yacht builder, does list the vessel’s speed at 18 knots which is actually in contrast to what other sources say which come in both higher and lower though they don’t specify cruising or maximum speed.
On the low end, cruising speed is listed at 15 knots. On the high end, maximum speed is listed at 20 knots. But, with Lurssen saying 18 knots, you have to take their word that it’s one or the other making either the 15 or the 20 incorrect.
Also interesting is that there is some disagreement as to whether the yacht has 2 or 4 MTU engines. It is generally agreed, however, that the Nord is working with 4,963hp MTU (20V 4000 M73L) diesel engines.
How Much Did the Nord Yacht Cost?
When the yacht was registered in the Cayman Islands the value was listed at $300 million. However, it’s also believed that this number is a bit of an undervaluation and the actual value of the yacht is somewhere around $500 million. If that higher number is true then the Nord ranks among the top ten most expensive yachts in the whole world.
It’s been estimated that annual running costs to handle all the fuel and crew salaries as well as upkeep and general costs are between $40 million and $50 million. Despite the high costs, the vessel is not a part of any yacht charter fleet and can’t be rented out if you’re in the market for a week on a luxury yacht.
Design and Features of the Yacht Nord
Superyacht Nord was designed by German yacht makers Lurssen back in 2021. The exterior and interior design of the yacht were handled by Italian design studio Nuvolari & Lenard. Like most yachts of its size it has a steel hull, teak decks and an aluminum superstructure.
It’s been said that the yacht was designed for exploration and long-range cruising. One of the designers said it’s a warship wearing a tuxedo, if that helps give you an idea of what the boat is like.
The bow is flattered at the front and features a massive nameplate which actually lights up at night. Some Russian billionaires are a bit sheepish about publicity and being seen but Nord wants to be seen and makes sure everyone notices it. Even the choice of paint, avoiding the typical white and going with champagne and deep blue accents plus blue lights, draws attention to every aspect of the yacht.
Amenities and Features
The motor yacht Nord has a prominent helipad located at the bow of the vessel and a very large pool located aft above the beach club. There’s also a second helipad and even a helicopter hangar on board. The hangar closes over the second helipad which is located on the top deck and is built into the main mast of the vessel.
A total of 36 guests can be accommodated in 20 cabins while there is also room for a crew of 50 on board. There are two elevators to help navigate the vessel’s six decks as well as some of the standard amenities you’d expect guests to be able to enjoy on a luxury yacht. These include:
- A fully equipped gym
- A beauty salon
- A tender garage which houses several tenders as well as a variety of toys and water vehicles
- A large beach club
- Massive dining hall and bar area
No pictures of the interior of the yacht have been made public so, as bold as the exterior looks, the interior details are still mostly under wraps.
The Bottom Line
Nord is owned by Russian billionaire Alexei Mordashov. The estimated cost of the vessel is a steep $500 million. The yacht is one of the largest in the world at 466 feet in length. It can reach speeds of 18 knots and has space for as many as 36 guests with a crew of 50.
Like many Russian-owned yachts, the Nord was almost seized in 2020 as a result of sanctions against Russian oligarchs as a result of the war in Ukraine. However, the vessel was able to elude authorities and was last seen in the Seychelles

The 141.6-metre Nord was designed with one idea in mind: she must cause strong emotions in every observer, not only through her sheer size, but with the design itself. Responsible for her stunning exterior and interior design is the Italian design studio Nuvolari-Lenard, who have given Nord her striking appearance with a bow design never before seen on a yacht. The 2021 delivered yacht Nord has implemented an exhaust after treatment system, which consists of the combination of a silencer with a selective catalytic reduction in the same casing, which can achieve a cleaning rate up to 97 % of nitrogen and additional reduction of acoustic noise – a Lürssen development.

Mordashov—the largest shareholder in the steelmaker Severstal and the third-richest man in Russia —has been sanctioned by the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The oligarch maintains he has had no involvement in Russian politics and has been fighting the sanctions since May.
However, like other sanctioned Russians, his assets continue to be seized by Western governments. In fact, Mordashov lost his 215-foot superyacht , Lady M , back in March after it was confiscated by Italian police. In response, billionaires have started relocating their high-priced ships to safer waters.
South Africa initially seemed like a good option. President Cyril Ramaphosa previously said “South Africa has no legal obligation to abide by sanctions imposed by the US and EU.” However, the mayor of Cape Town opposed welcoming Nord , adding there may be protests from the port city’s large Ukrainian community.
The Maldives do not currently have extradition treaties with the US. However, the country is a member of the United Nations, which has vehemently denounced Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Let’s see if Nord ends up dropping anchor.

EXCLUSIVE: 142m Lurssen superyacht NORD, formerly 'Project Opus', delivered

By Katie Scott 19 February 2021
Lurssen’s 142m/466ft motor yacht NORD , formerly known as Project Opus, has successfully been delivered to her owner. She set off from the German yard this morning on her maiden voyage to Gibraltar.
Initially known as 'Project Redwood' and then 'Project Opus', megayacht NORD was constructed at the Lurssen Bremen shipyard and boasts no less than 20 cabins for up to 36 guests.
Officially launched in July 2020, NORD spans over six decks and is one of the largest motor yachts delivered in 2021.
First announced in December 2015, the name NORD was exclusively revealed by YachtCharterFleet and was initially proposed to be a 139m Project. She has since been extended by an additional three metres, allowing for extra amenities onboard.
Sporting immaculate design from Italian studio Nuvolari & Lenard, who previously collaborated with Lurssen on the award-winning 88m/289ft superyacht QUATTROELLE , the yacht's profile is particularly striking.
One of the most iconic components of her exterior is the subtle nod to the automobile industry; NORD is the first yacht to have her nameplate on the bow, much like a car grill.
NORD showcases her capacious volume of 9,250GT by providing extensive relaxation and lounging areas, as well as indulgent social environments for unforgettable parties.
Featuring a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks, NORD has been built in compliance to Lloyds Register PYC classification society rules.
First seen on the move in October 2018, before becoming Project Opus in 2019, she joins the Top 10 of the World's longest yachts alongside 180m (592.7ft) superyacht AZZAM and 156m (511.8ft) DILBAR .
Indicating several unique features onboard the latest Lurssen megayacht, dual helipads, on-deck swimming pools and Jacuzzis are just some key features listed for NORD.
A spacious sports and diving centre accompany storage for tenders up to 15m, and a custom hangar slides in to place within the superstructure when not in use.
It is currently unknown whether NORD is to be available for superyacht charters .

Nord Star 42+ yacht tour: Inside Nord Star’s best ever offshore cruiser
- Top stories
Reporting from the 2023 Southampton Boat Show, MBY's Alex Smith takes us on a full tour of the Nord Star 42+...
The Nord Star 42+ generated quite a buzz at the 2023 Southampton Boat Show . The second-largest model in their lineup, this model impressed us with its versatility and customisation options.
The cockpit design can be tailored to the owner’s preference, with options for U-shaped or L-shaped seating. On the model showcased at the Southampton Boat Show, the U-shaped seating configuration was complemented by live bait wells on both sides, making this potentially a brilliant fishing boat .
Unlike most offshore pilothouse boats, the Nord Star 42+ is built with relatively narrow side decks. This maximizes the interior space in the saloon, but doesn’t sacrifice safety or functionality, as the boat retains its CE Category B rating, so you can be sure it’s seaworthy and safe for offshore adventures.
Stepping onto the foredeck, you’ll find a central island sunbed with an elevated circular hatch in the centre. This unique design allows ample natural light to filter down into the forward cabin, while still offering comfortable seating. The foredeck also features a proper Scandi-style step-through bow.
Moving inside, the helm station and saloon of the Nord Star 42+ impress with their layout and build quality. The helm seat, made by Grammer, is equipped with suspension and adjustable armrests, essential for long journeys, while the helm features a clean, well-organised dashboard with options for multiple displays.

Sargo 45 yacht tour: epic adventure boat from the nordic masters.
The Nord Star 42+ is offered in two versions: Cruiser and Voyager. One of the distinguishing features of the Cruiser variant seen here is the inclusion of half doors, which open up the internal saloon to the external cockpit seamlessly. Additionally, the Cruiser model offers an expansive galley with modern appliances, enhancing its suitability for extended cruising .
The accommodation on board is both generous and adaptable. The owner’s cabin is symmetrical, with steps on both sides for easy access to the large double bed, and the circular skylight hatch above adds to the cabin’s charm. Moving aft, the second cabin offers impressive flexibility with two large single beds that can convert into a spacious double bed.
The head’s compartment, split into two sections with a dedicated shower room on the port side, reflects the focus on comfort, build quality and practicality that runs throughout the boat.
Propulsion options for the Nord Star 42+ include Volvo Penta D6 440s on stern drives or IPS drives, as well as IPS 600s and 650s. These options cater to a wide range of preferences and performance needs.
The 42+ is proof that Nord Star , with its rich heritage in boat manufacturing, continues to deliver innovative and highly customizable vessels that meet the diverse demands of today’s boaters.
Whether for offshore adventures, fishing trips, or extended cruising, the Nord Star 42+ offers a compelling choice for those seeking a versatile and comfortable boat.

An Inside Look at Jeff Bezos’ $500 Million Superyacht and What It Costs To Keep It Afloat
C liché but true, the second-richest man on the planet, according to Forbes , owns the tallest sailing yacht in the world . In fact, the 417-foot Koru is so big, it has its own 250-foot support vessel .
Priced at $500 million, the Koru hit the sea for the first time in 2023 and has since ferried Jeff Bezos and company around the globe. Complete with three massive 229-foot masts, it can reach a top speed under sail of 20 knots, according to the New York Post — which is approximately 23 miles per hour.
Made for a group, up to 18 guests can set sail on the yacht, allowing Bezos to bring family and friends on vacation with him. Here’s a look at the Koru’s extravagant features and how much it costs to operate his floating mansion.
Also take a look at Bezos’ mansion collection.

Key Features
As expected Bezos’ yacht is dripping with luxury. With a net worth of $203.8 billion — as of May 4, 2024, according to Forbes — he can afford to outfit the Koru with nothing but the best and he did just that.
The superyacht has three outdoor decks, with two containing swimming pools, according to the New York Post. It also features a cinema, several lounges and multiple business areas, according to Luxuo .
Highly personalized, the yacht is complete with a figurehead modeled after Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Even its masts are luxurious, as the Amazon founder chose in-boom furlers, which keep the canvases at the bottom of the mast above the deck, creating a pristine and spacious rope-free deck.

Support Vessel
One of the most shocking features of the Koru is the fact that it requires its own support vessel. The $75 million Abeona features a helipad that Sanchez has been spotted using to park her personal helicopter, according to the New York Post.
Designed to carry extra gear, four jet skis, two fast launches and a dinghy were spotted on the Abeona during a 2023 trip to Mallorca, Spain, according to the New York Post. It’s also capable of lifting a small submarine, but Bezos isn’t believed to own one — at least not yet.
Additionally, the support ship has two extra staterooms, which can accommodate four guests. This could come in handy if Bezos wants to entertain a larger group than can fit on the Koru.
On-Board Crew
It probably isn’t a surprise that operating both the Koru and the Abeona is no small task. From staff to drive the boats and maintain them to caring for guests onboard, Bezos needs a small army at sea.
The Koru has a crew of up to 36 people, according to The New York Post. If you think that’s a lot, the Abeona requires up to 45 crew and support staff.
Annual Operating Costs
Purchasing the Koru and Abeona cost Bezos more than half a billion dollars, but his expenses didn’t end there. As you might imagine, the annual cost to maintain a superyacht and its own enormous supporting yacht is more than most people earn in a lifetime.
The Koru costs approximately $25 million in operating expenses per year, according to the Daily Mail . Much less, but still sky-high, Bezos spends around $5 to $10 million on annual maintenance costs for the Abeona, according to Super Yacht Fan ).
When their owners are on dry land, yachts have to find a parking space. However, even this doesn’t always come cheap for Bezos and the Koru.
In November 2023, the billionaire’s yacht arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was too big to fit in the port with all the outer superyachts, according to the Daily Mail. Therefore, it had to be docked with cruise ships at Port Everglades, at a rate of $16,500 per week.
While one week of storage might be more than the average person can afford, picking up the tab for any number of weeks would clearly be no issue for Bezos. While his superyacht and the many expenses surrounding it are clearly astronomical, he’s still living well within his budget.

Video: Global 6000 - A Glimpse of Elegance And Sustainability At EBACE 2024
Angus Batey, Aviation Week Network's Show News writer, had an exclusive look inside the Global 6000 at EBACE 2024 .
This aircraft features a unique and elegant design aimed at providing a relaxing experience for passengers. It is undergoing its 120-month check. The owner wanted the cabin to feel like a home away from home, and the design was inspired by this concept. English yacht designer Andrew Winch, known for his work in yachts and the sea, designed the interior. The exterior paint was completed by General Atomics in Germany.
The Global 6000 is operated by Alliance Executive Jet, based in Malta. The business aircraft has a mobile base and when not on charter, it is stationed at its headquarters in Dublin.
Throughout the show, the Global 6000 is displaying a QR code on the outside of the aircraft to showcase its carbon neutrality. Every flight has been and will continue to be offset, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) will be used whenever possible.
The owner is planning to put the Global 6000 up for charter, and the aircraft is already generating interest.
Angus Batey has been contributing to various titles within the Aviation Week Network since 2009, reporting on topics ranging from defense and space to business aviation, advanced air mobility and cybersecurity.
