“Flotilla holiday - Odysseus” Review of Ionian Islands

We went on our first ever flotilla holiday in June this year with Odysseus Yachting. Wanted to share as there are few sailing reviews on the site. We found the holiday through Nautilus yachting and flew into Prevessa where we picked up the boat. There were about 7 boats on the flotilla in total and the hosts looked after us all exceptionally well. I have to say this holiday is one of the best my wife and I have ever been on. I would definately reccomend Odysseus if you're looking for a company to go with.

My wife and I wanted to try a sailing holiday in the Greek Islands but did not know where to begin. I had not sailed a yacht for 30 years and my wife had never sailed. We wanted this to be a chance to try out a sailing holiday to see if we could enjoy these in the future but we were worried it would be a disaster. We need never have worried once we discovered Scorpios Sailing We found Scorpios Sailing off the internet and thought it sounded good and when we spoke to Lesley on the phone we got a similarly good feel about it all. I have to say that our holiday far exceeded our expectations and was just one of the best holidays we have ever had – and we have travelled pretty widely. If you want to see the Greek Ionian Islands and try a sailing holiday but would like someone else to sort it all out for you and make it a happy relaxing time then I don’t think there is a better way to do it than go for a week or two with Scorpios Sailing. We wanted a holiday and also the chance to find out if we liked sailing. Roger and Lesley were just happy to help us discover the joys of sailing, they were great instructors in a friendly and funny way but for those people who just want to lie back and relax they will do all the work and just take you from one lovely place to another. Scorpios is a lovely classic 45 ft yacht. Old enough to have character and charm but modern enough to have the nice touches which are just what you need on holiday. The master cabin is delightful, the saloon is really welcoming and the cockpit has these wide, full length bench seats so you can lie back and just watch the world go by. It doesn’t have air-conditioning but even when it got hot we never needed it, there a plenty of big wide open hatches and they are all fitted with mosquito proof screens - although mosquitos were never really much of an issue. There is plenty of water and hot showers and the food is just fantastic. Lesley is a really great cook What we never expected was that Roger – the skipper – and Lesley who organises all the hostess side of things and also is crew and assistant skipper would just be such friendly, enjoyable but also professional people. Right from the time we got out of the taxi at Lefkas marina we were made to feel welcome and at ease and it just got better from there. Within 2 hours we were briefed and had sailed through the canal and within another hour we were anchored for a quick swim before a great relaxed lunch onboard. A few hours later we were in berthed alongside on the island of Meganissi for sundowners and a short walk to a local taverna for supper. One of the great things about the holiday was how Roger and Lesley really tried to work out what we would enjoy doing and then they tailored the whole week to try and suit us. No fixed schedule – it is definitely not one of those holidays where “today’s Tuesday so it must be…”, instead of that every day started with a plan but it frequently changed because we were having a great time or we wanted to swim or sail longer. During the week we visited Meganissi, Fiskado in Kephalonia, the islands of Kastos and Kalamos ( which we have never heard of but were just delightful) and Ithaca ( sort of really because we only went to a small island off it). The islands are really beautiful and throughout the week we just had these fantastic views of the islands and their small delightfully unspoilt coves and harbours. I could rave on about it because we just had a wonderful time. Were there any downsides to it – we only booked a week! Sometimes you read great reviews on Trip Adviser and you wonder if they have been “planted” well this is not one of those. We had never met Roger and Lesley until we walked on board. They gave us such a great holiday that we just want to pass the good word on.

Zante is a fantastic island. The food is absolutely wonderful. One recommendation which must be made is a trip to Yerakas beach on the Southern Pennisula - it truely is the most fantastic beach on the island. Just be careful not to tread on the designated area of sand where the turtles nest - the water is calm and completely clear and there is a great little shop and cocktail bar too!

Do not miss a visit to the old capitol, Lixouri. Take the ferry from Argostoli - cheap and fun. Head West past Agia Thekla for some amazing beaches, mainly deserted. Try Myrtos Bay on a quiet day for fabulous scenery and the most amazing coloured sea you will ever experience. Fiskardo is still beautiful despite the Yachties and the twee tourists shops taking over. Some great seafood to be found at taverna Dasos. In Argostoli, try Patsouras' taverna - great for fresh fish and the ubiquitous Kefallonian meat pie. Pretty island with more on offer than most.

Sailing Holidays in Greece, `The Odyssey` Route

During “The Odyssey” Ionian sailing holidays we sail to visit the home of Odysseus: Ithaka. This Greek sailing region of central Ionian Sea is rich in islands, mountains and bays . These hide the bluest water that we ever seen. We expect to eat well, drink good wine and satisfy our wanderlust for a little adventure. The route is designed to show the best that this region has to offer: lonesome bays, little villages, towering cliffs and a few gems that we want to keep secret. Just like Odysseus we will sail and explore what is beyond the horizon.

Note: We are faithful to the true sailing spirit, therefore we plan exact stopovers together with the wind and the weather. Our trips are not a planned itinerary which is always the same. This means that the exact order of stopovers may be different to the one presented below, but definitely as much interesting!

Ionian Sailing Holidays Itinerary

Lefkas marina.

Our starting point for sailing in Greece is Lefkas Marina. It can be easily reached with a taxi from nearby Aktion airport. If you will land in Corfu International airport you can reach the marina with a bus or with a shuttle transfer that you can book on our website. Lefkas Marina is just next to the old city of Lefkas. On the check-in day we meet the crew, provision the yacht and try to leave the port as soon as possible to reach nearby bay to spend the night anchored in a turquoise-watered bay . Let`s start our Flotilla Sailing Holidays in Greece!

We raft our yachts again near the small, remote island of Ligia. There is a little stone quay on which only the yachts of our flotilla moor. We embark on a journey to count the stars, share food, stories and hopefully do some music and sing the night through. Remember to bring instruments!

This bay is known for it`s outstanding tavernas . We can moor at the pier of a taverna for free if we decide to dine there. Its more than a fair deal. The fish and seafood come from the morning catch , the meats can`t be prepared with more love and the wine production tradition is thousands year old. In this bay which is squeezed in between forested hills our taste buds explode from joy 🙂

Everyone and everything becomes quiet and peaceful when the sun goes down while you still sail. Magic.

You can use one of the lines attached to the top of the mast to swing out of the yacht to dive into the water!

Lunch Stops

Everyday we aim to stop at vibrant bays for a quick lunch and snorkelling. We drop an anchor and enjoy the beauty of the nature around us. We eat what we cook on board, swim in crystal clear water, sunbath and relax. And if you wish to, you can climb the mast to take such a great photo! Afterwards another sailing session awaits!

Around 50% of the people who come to my sailing holidays are coming solo. 25% in groups of 2 and 25% in the group of 3 and more. As there is a few yachts I take special care in matching people to the crews. I even wrote a little blog post about that:  Matching Yacht Crews for Sailing Holidays

WHAT DOES THE EXACT ITINERARY LOOK LIKE?

At Naleia we plan as we go according to the weather conditions and all crews` moods. There are a variety of places that we can visit, but the order and exact choice is only made each morning after verifying the weather conditions. Leave planning at home! We live for the moment !

WHEN CAN I CHECK-IN ON THE FIRST DAY AND WHEN DO WE ARRIVE TO MARINA ON THE LAST DAY?

Check-ins are always on Saturdays at 16h00. You are naturally most welcome to come earlier and say hello! Our yacht will be being cleaned at this moment, so we will need to wait a little. We leave the port next morning (Sunday) after breakfast.

On Friday, the last day, we arrive at our marina in the afternoon: 15h00-18h00. We need to check-out and leave the yachts before 09h00 on Saturday morning.

HOW MANY YACHTS WILL BE IN GREEK FLOTILLA?

There won`t be more than 6 yachts in our Greek flotilla. This allows us to fit into small and uninhabited bays, moor at little restaurants and it makes the group small enough to have a cosy and friendly atmosphere that allows spontaneous ideas to come to life! For example: hiking the nearby hill to admire the sunset, going to a local concert or jamming on our yachts!

Sailing in the wake of Odysseus

A charter around the idyllic Ionian islands proves to be the perfect laid-back holiday for Heather Prentice and her family

Arriving in Meganisi, we were greeted by shouting and waving from the jetty. What had been one or two people had grown to five as those docked gathered to watch us reverse tentatively into the narrow gap between the two yachts on the pontoon. Now the beach restaurant owner at Spartakhori came down, waving violently and shouting loudest of all: ‘No, no, no!’

This was the first evening of our family sailing holiday. Not only did we need to sharpen up our stern-to mooring, but perhaps our navigation too – were we in the right place? ‘No space!,’ the restaurant owner shouted with a final gesture, turning around to stride up the gangway back to his guests.

Not long off a plane, we were a little fazed by our welcome to the island. It seemed we should have got there much earlier – who knew? A crackle on the radio and Sail Ionian quickly confirmed that we did indeed have a berth booked. We gratefully reversed for a second time, made sure we shouted back loudly, and threw our stern lines.

Earlier that day we had arrived at the Sail Ionian base at Vliho, near Nidri on Levkas, where owners Di and Neil Bingham were very welcoming, explaining the area and giving their recommendations. Our Bavaria C42, named Freedom (as Scots, it was hard not to think of Mel Gibson in Braveheart), was in top condition, as if new, offering spacious, light accommodation that would suit our family very well. An electric outboard, solar panels, lithium batteries and other eco-friendly systems are mostly standard on Sail Ionian yachts, as well as the obligatory holding tanks.

While I have sailed most of my life, the rest of the family are still building up experience. It is our plan that we all – husband Milen, daughter Siena and son Christian – will sail together around Europe and then explore further afield. We had spent several summers sailing on the west coast of Scotland, with lockdown dedicated to RYA navigation training via zoom. Now we were finally afloat in the stunning Ionian islands and ready to explore.

Before we had even set foot in the restaurant, Siena and Christian were swimming. After a large and tasty snapper fish for dinner, we all had an evening swim, such was the joy of being in this balmy, tranquil bay. In the morning, it was the reverse: a swim before breakfast – even before morning coffee.

Laid-back exploring

We were cruising in an informal flotilla with five other boats, mostly just sailing to the same port at night. Billy, the Sail Ionian representative, was on hand in port to offer assistance. There was no pressure to follow the small fleet so we also did a bit of exploring. The second night’s destination was Sivota, a fjord-like harbour on the south coast of Levkas, with a wonderful fish restaurant.

We set off down the west coast of Meganisi, taking note that winds funnel around the land so we could experience an 180° windshift mid-channel. Fortunately for us, the prevailing northwest wind kicked in Force 3-4 after lunch, as usual, and everyone was happy sailing. Christian soon discovered the cockpit speakers and for a while, Freedom became a party vessel.

In Sivota, we used our electric outboard to motor to a nearby jetty to swim in the beautifully clear waters – the holding tanks mean the harbours are really clean. There we met another family sailing aboard Calon Draig – they were to become our good friends and the children would go exploring together in every port. We enjoyed a relaxed dinner overlooking the harbour followed by the passeggiata (evening stroll), during which we explored the harbour and shops.

A storm was scheduled, unusually, to blow through from the south the next day, so we decided to head back to the north end of Meganisi for a sheltered anchorage near Little Vathi. A leisurely start (we were not getting the hang of this early-into-port business) saw us head around the east side of Meganisi. We stopped to have a closer look at Papa Nikoli’s cave below towering cliffs on the southwest coast of Meganisi. We drifted gently, while taking it in turns o explore the astounding cave by dinghy.

Once back on board, we sailed slowly around the southern tip of the island and up the eastern coast where the wind picked up. We paused in the beautiful Abelike Bay, at the top of Meganisi, to admire a magnificent private residence with a superyacht moored below. As we dropped our anchor for a swim, the windlass went on the blink and promptly payed out the whole chain. At least we weren’t going to drag.

We made a quick call and Kostas, the standby engineer, arrived 15 minutes later on a high-speed rib to fix it. It was brilliant service.

After this we motored round the corner to tie up to the jetty at the Karnayio taverna in the middle of the southwest side of Little Vathi – surely one of the most beautiful bays in this part of Greece – peaceful and still. We were, however, the last to arrive and again had to reverse our 42ft vessel into a tight gap between two others.

Once moored, one of our neighbours came aboard for a beer to discuss the politics and skills of female skippers! During dinner at the taverna we began to recognise the faces of our fellow cruisers. It was a tasty meal and afterwards Christian caught his first fish – a small snapper.

The next day, we anchored for lunch and a swim at the north end of Kalamos, near Episkopi. We chose a beautiful turquoise strip but the sandy bottom meant we were slowly dragging anchor. It was not very relaxing, so we pushed on. Rounding the headland, we had a beautiful close reach down to Kastos.

In the small port, we took the dinghy and had some fun setting out long lines. The village was quiet and peaceful and only visited by yachts, it seemed. Siena and Christian took the dinghy to say hello to our friends and explore the sheltered bay. Ashore, we ordered tuna souvlaki, which was easily the best meal of the trip. Simply delicious.

Race to Kioni

Next morning we left early – we were finally getting the idea of early morning departures – and headed for One House Bay on Atokos, a stunning turquoise harbour surrounded by tall white cliffs with a small sandy bay. Unfortunately, many others had the same idea. Although Siena was now an expert at anchoring, we were hard pushed to find a spot with swinging room, making it a quick lunch and a swim.

It was time to head to Kioni. As we came out of the bay, we hoisted our sails and saw that sistership Dolce Vita was doing the same. We were at full power as we sailed past them struggling with their sails – it was game on! We hardened sheets and sped across towards Ithaca with them close behind. Neither yacht gave ground. Who would buy the drinks in port?

Ithaca, or Ithaki, is the legendary homeland of Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s epic tale The Odyssey, written in 725 BC and one of the greatest works of Greek literature. In it, Odysseus, King of Ithaca, takes 10 years to wander home to the island, via Africa and southern Europe, after the Trojan War.

Many of the historical sites mentioned in the epic poem can be seen on Ithaca. The port Kioni was a rather chic, charming village with Venetian renaissance architecture, wrapped around a small harbour. We long-lined to a rocky shore, and later that evening, we met our friends for dinner overlooking the picturesque bay.

We headed for Fiskardho the next morning to pick up Milen’s brother who would join us for the last few days. Kefalonia, like its neighbours, was overrun by Italians and Germans during the Second World War, and the novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin by Louis de Bernières was set here.

On the last day, we ventured to Assos, on the western side of Kefalonia. It was founded during Venetian rule and was remote and beautiful. On our return, the wind filled in and we had a gentle run to Spartakhori. We returned to the same taverna, now able to laugh with the owner about our first evening. The Ionian is now one of our favourite places and we will certainly be back soon.

Sailing Qualifications

To skipper a bareboat charter or flotilla yacht, you need to hold a practical sailing certificate equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Practical qualification or RYA International Certificate of Competence (ICC) . For charters in Greece, you must now have the ICC certificate . You must also be assisted by at least one competent crew member over the age of 18.

The port authorities in Greece are now insisting on one of the following practical certificates: RYA ICC (International Certificate of Competence), RYA Coastal, RYA Yachtmaster, ASA IPC (International Proficiency Certificate) or the IYT (International Yacht Training) Passport. If you hold an RYA Day Skipper or ASA104 it will no longer be accepted and you need to obtain either an ICC or IPC from the corresponding issuing body (RYA or ASA). If your RYA Coastal/Yachtmaster or ASA105/106 certificate is more than 12 years old and does not have a photo ID, then we would also strongly advise applying for an ICC or IPC. If you are a member of the RYA or ASA, you may qualify for a discount or free certificate, otherwise, you will have to pay. The approximate cost is £50. Please use this link - RYA application for the ICC or ASA application for the IPC.

For charters in Croatia, Malta and the Canaries , at least one member of the crew or the skipper will also need a VHF licence .

RYA qualifications can be obtained by RYA sailing schools in the UK or alternatively choose from one of our overseas centres in Gibraltar, Greece or Turkey .

For  Seychelles,  the local authorities require an ICC for the skipper of a bareboat or flotilla yacht charter.

For Caribbean and Tropical charters, formal qualifications are not compulsory, however, you should be Day Skipper standard and be assisted by at least one competent crew . A brief sailing resume should be provided to outline your experience.

For Thailand A Day Skipper qualification is required as a minimum and you must have at least 3 weeks of skippering experience prior to your charter. A VHF qualification is compulsory.

Sailing Levels

Winds force 2-3 (4-11 Knots)combined with generally shorter distances. Good for beginner or intermediate sailors. Line-of-sight navigation but basic knowledge of charts and ability to plot your position required.

Winds force 3-5 (7-21 Knots) with approximately 15-20nm per day. Intermediate experience required. Predominately line of sight navigation but an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Winds force 4-6 (11-27 Knots) with mileage of approximately 20nm+ per day. Ideal for experienced skippers looking to venture out to new destinations. Day skipper standard but with experienced crew would be recommended.

Hello traveler, We are a family of four. I am IOANNIS, 40 years old, my wife Stella, also 40 years old, and our 2 children, Odysseus, 6.5 years old, and Philippos, 3.5 years old. We live in a fantastic area of Attica (Athens) called Kifisia. Our house has two floors and there is an independent attic with its own toilet, shower and TV. The washer and dryer are also located there. During the stay, the workawayer will have the opportunity to get to know up close the way of life of a Greek family, but also to explore the capital of Greece, Athens. Our diet is Mediterranean and includes meals with meat and vegetables. The electric railway for commuting in the city is a short distance from the house. By bus 10 minutes or half an hour on foot. We speak Greek fluent,English and a bit German.

All about the Greek royal family tree – inside the House of Glücksburg

The greek royal family was deposed in 1974.

The House of Glücksburg is one of the most dominant royal houses, and it currently rules in Denmark and Norway, while having branches that range from the British royal family to the now deposed Greek monarchy.

The House of Wittelsbach started ruling the European nation in 1832 before Glücksburg became the ruling house in 1862 following the unpopularity of King Otto . George I was installed as the monarch, although there had been hopes that Queen Victoria's eldest son, Prince Albert, would become the King of Greece, the idea was rejected.

The royal family was originally deposed in 1924 with the pro-monarchy government being blamed for the loss of Greece's war against Turkey. A public referendum in 1935 restored the monarchy, but it was once again disbanded in 1973 after King Constantine II attempted to lead a coup against the ruling military junta. Even though the junta was overthrown the following year, the Greek public voted against restoring the monarchy in a 1974 referendum .

Although they no longer rule the country, the Greek wing of the House of Glücksburg is still in existence, so scroll down to lean all you need to know…

The family tree

King Constantine II

Born on 2 June 1940, Constantine ruled Greece from 6 March 1964 up until the overthrowing of the Greek royal family on 1 June 1973. Constantine was the second child and eldest son of the then Crown Prince Paul and Crown Princess Frederica and moved ahead of his sister to due to agnatic primogeniture laws.

More royal family trees

Like many royals born at his time, Constantine had to flee his home country due to World War II, initially settling in Egypt before arriving in South Africa. However, with growing Republic sentiment in Greece, Constantine didn't return home until 1946 when a referendum was held, with the result being in favour of the monarchy .

Constantine became Crown Prince at the young age of just six  following the death of his grandfather, George, in 1947. When he was nine, Constantine began being prepared for the throne and served in the Greek military when he turned 15. In his youth, Constantine was a keen sportsman and he managed to win a gold medal at the 1960 Olympic Games in the sailing event.

The royal was only 23 when he acceded to the throne , with his father dying of stomach cancer on 6 March 1964. However, Constantine headed to the throne at a time of great political unrest and his appointment of Georgios Athanasiadis-Novas as Prime Minister of Greece in 1965 following the resignation of Georgios Papandreou led to protests on the streets, which were only resolved by the 1967 elections.

In 1967, a military coup was launched leading to the formation of a new government, which was sworn in by Constantine. However, the Greek monarch organised a counter-coup months later, which ultimately failed, leading to the royal family fleeing Greece . Constantine was still King of Greece for six years until the junta abolished the monarchy on 1 June 1973.

When the junta fell the following a year, a referendum was held on restoring the monarchy, however, the Greek public voted resoundingly against this. The former King spent much of the rest of his life outside of the country, but caused headlines during a family holiday back to his homeland in 1993.

Constantine would later sue the Greek government following their seizing of his family's historic home and assets and a judgement from the European Court of Justice found in his favour in 2000. Constantine spent much of the rest of his life in London, where he was close with the then Prince Charles . In 2013, he returned to Greece where he lived out his days as a private citizen.

On 18 September 1964, Constantine married Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark, and the pair welcomed five children: Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos, Princess Theodora and Prince Philippos.

On 6 January 2023, Constantine was admitted to hospital following a major stroke and he died four days later on 10 January 2023 . His funeral was attended by many royals across the world.

Queen Anne-Marie

Born on 30 August 1946, Anne-Marie is the wife of King Constantine and ruled as his Queen Consort from 1964 up until the abolition of the Greek monarchy on 1 June 1973. Anne-Marie was born into the Danish royal family and was the youngest daughter of Frederik IX and Ingrid.

Anne-Marie met her future husband when she was 13 and the pair secretly got engaged two years later, marrying just two weeks after Anne-Marie became 18 . Anne-Marie quickly won the favour of the Greek public when she started learning the language and history of the country. Due to the marriage, Anne-Marie and her descendants have no further claim to the Danish throne .

As Queen Consort, Anne-Marie continued the running of Her Majesty's Fund, which was set up by her mother-in-law, Queen Frederica, later renaming the organisation to the Anne-Marie Foundation. The royal was part of the legal case with her husband over the seizure of their property and the pair used the money to set up the Anna-Maria Foundation, which assists those affected by natural disasters, Anne-Marie has been the organisation's president since 2019.

The royal shares five children with her husband: Princess Alexia, Crown Prince Pavlos, Prince Nikolaos, Princess Theodora and Prince Philippos.

• Queen Sofia

Born on 2 November 1938, Queen Sofia is the older sister of Constantine and while she was never Queen of Greece, she served as the Queen of Spain from 1975 to 2014 following her marriage to King Juan Carlos .

The royal renounced her rights to the Greek throne in order to marry Juan Carlos and the couple share three children: Infanta Elena, Infanta Cristina and King Felipe . Like her family, Sofia would not regularly visit her home country due to exile, however, she and her husband financially supported Constantine and Anne-Marie when they were cut off from funds.

Princess Irene

Born on 11 May 1942, Princess Irene is the youngest child of King Paul and Queen Frederica and the younger sister of Constantine. Irene was born in South Africa after the Greek royals fled their homeland during World War II.

Irene has mostly lived outside of the public eye and has never married. Following the exile of the Greek royals, she lived with her mother in India. After Frederica's death in 1981, Irene moved to live with her sister Sofia in Spain.

Princess Alexia

Born on 10 July 1965, Princess Alexia is the eldest child of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie and was heir presumptive to the Greek throne until the arrival of her brother, Crown Prince Pavlos in 1967 .

Alexia was brought up in exile from her homeland and she graduated with a BA in History and Education before becoming a teacher in Southwark, London. The royal later moved to Barcelona, where she became a teacher specialising in children with developmental disorders.

On 9 July 1999, she walked down the aisle with architect Carlos Morales, their wedding was postponed after the bride and groom were injured in a sailing accident in May 1999 . In the accident, Alexis fractured her collarbone, while Carlos fractured his kneecap.

The couple share four children: Arrietta (b. 2002), Anna-Maria (b. 2003), Carlos (b. 2005) and Amelia (b. 2007).

Crown Prince Pavlos

Born on 20 May 1967, Crown Prince Pavlos is the head of the Greek royal family following the death of his father, King Constantine on 10 January 2023 and would currently be King had the monarchy not been abolished .

Due to his father's attempt to lead a coup against the military junta in Greece, Pavlos was evacuated from the country when he was just seven months old . The royal was educated in both the United States and United Kingdom, where his family eventually settled, and he undertook military training at Sandhurst, rising to the rank of lieutenant.

Following his education and military service, Pavlos became an investment consultant and co-founded hedge fund Ortelius Advisors. Several months after his father's death, Pavlos confirmed that he was now living back in Greece.

In 1992, Pavlos met Marie-Chantal Miller in New Orleans and the pair wed on 1 July 1995. The couple share five children: Princess Maria-Olympia, Prince Constantine-Alexios, Prince Achileas-Andreas, Prince Odysseus-Kimon and Prince Aristidis-Stavros.

Crown Princess Marie-Chantal

Born on 17 September 1968 as Marie-Chantal Miller , she is the wife of Crown Prince Pavlos and if the Greek monarchy remained would currently be the Queen Consort of the country.

Born in London, Marie-Chantal studied in Hong Kong, Switzerland, Paris and New York City. In 1992, she met Crown Prince Pavlos at a party in New Orleans and she walked down the aisle with the royal on 1 July 1995, with the pair welcoming five children: Princess Maria-Olympia, Prince Constantine-Alexios, Prince Achileas-Andreas, Prince Odysseus-Kimon and Prince Aristidis-Stavros.

Marie-Chantal has quite the business career and in 2000 founded the luxury childrenswear company Marie-Chantal . In 2019, the royal published her debut book, Manners Begin at Breakfast , which is billed as an etiquette guide for modern families.

Prince Nikolaos

Born on 1 October 1969 in Italy, Nikolaos is the third child of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. After initially studying in London, Nikolaos graduated from Brown University in Rhode Island and started working for the Fox Television Network. Since 1998, he has worked in his late father's private office and he also serves as a board member on his mother's charity, the Anna-Maria Foundation.

On 25 August 2010, Nikolaos walked down the aisle with Tatiana Blatnik, however on 19 April 2024, the duo confirmed they were separating . The pair share no children.

Princess Tatiana

Born on 27 August 1980 as Tatiana Blatnik, she is the former wife of Prince Nikolaos. Tatiana was born in Caracas, Venezuela before being raised in Switzerland. The royal graduated from Georgetown University in 2003 with a degree in sociology and became an events planner for Diane van Furstenberg.

Tatiana resigned from her role in 2010 to focus on her own wedding to Prince Nikolaos, walking down the aisle with the Greek prince on 25 August 2010. The pair remained married for 14 years before announcing their decision to separate on 19 April 2024.

Princess Theodora

Born on 9 June 1983, Theodora is the fourth child of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. Due to her family's exile from Greece, Theodora was born in London. The royal pursued an acting career after graduating from Brown University with a Theatre of Arts degree.

Theodora's best-known role was as secretary Alison Montgomery on the American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful . Other credits have included Gates of Hades , Respect Greece and The Great Awakening .

On 16 November 2018, her engagement to American lawyer Matthew Kumar was confirmed. The pair were due to marry in May 2020, however the wedding was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic . The wedding was postponed again following the death of Theodora's father, King Constantine on 10 January 2023. HELLO!'s sister publication HELLO! Greece reports the pair are due to marry in 2024.

Prince Philippos

Born on 26 April 1986, Prince Philippos is the fifth and youngest child of King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie. Philippos was born in London due to his family's exile from their homeland and he graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in foreign relations. The royal currently works as an analyst for Ortelius Capital after previously interning with the United Nations.

On 12 December, the royal married Nina Flohr after proposing to her on a boat. Due to COVID restrictions at the time, only their parents were present at their first wedding.

Princess Nina

Born on 22 January 1987 as Nina Flohr, Princess Nina is the wife of Prince Philippos and the daughter of airline magnate Thomas Flohr, who founded luxury airline firm VistaJet. Born in Switzerland, Nina studied in the UK and US before becoming the creative director at her father's company.

In 2016, Nina left her role and the following year, she founded the Kisawa Sanctuary, a luxury hotel alongside the Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies, an environmental conservation centre, both of which are located in Mozambique .

In 2018, she met Greek royal Prince Philippos and the pair got engaged in 2020, having a very private wedding due to coronavirus restrictions. The pair had a more public reception the following year with Princess Beatrice amongst the guests.

Princess Maria-Olympia

Born on 25 July 1996, Princess Maria Olympia is the first child and only daughter of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal. Born in New York City, Maria-Olympia, who generally goes by Olympia, was mostly raised in London.

Fashion has long been an interest for the royal, attending a couture show at the age of 11 before studying graphic design in a Swiss boarding school and interning for Dior. Olympia has since become a model and has walked the runway in brands like Dolce & Gabbana .

Prince Constantine-Alexios

Born on 29 October 1998, Constantine-Alexios is the second child of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal. If the Greek monarchy was still around, Constantine-Alexios would be the heir apparent to the throne due to male-favoured primogeniture rules .

Like his sister, Constantine-Alexios has entered the modelling world, including for brands like Dior. However, the royal is also in touch with his creative side and he is a talented painter and sculptor, often sharing his works on his official Instagram page.

Prince Achileas-Andreas

Born on 12 August 2000, Prince Achileas-Andreas is the third child of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal. The royal was born in New York City, and like his aunt, he has pursued a career in acting, making his professional debut in The Bold and Beautiful . He also appeared in Jennifer Lawrence's comedy, No Hard Feelings in a small part.

Prince Odysseus-Kimon

Born on 17 September 2004, Prince Odysseus-Kimon is the fourth child of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal. Not much is known about the teen, but last year he began his university studies at the New York University.

Prince Aristidis-Stavros

Born on 29 June 2008, Prince Aristidis-Stavros is the youngest child of Crown Prince Pavlos and Crown Princess Marie-Chantal. The royal keeps a low profile, but it was confirmed that he is studying at Wellington School in Somerset.
