With a considerable beam of 21 feet, the yacht offers plenty of space on board and is far more stylish than any regular old fishing boat. Penned by Asli Hotic and Atilla Eren, the interiors are characterized by dark wood floors, light oak furniture and white paintwork.

In terms of accommodation, there is a full-beam owner’s suite, a forward VIP and one twin cabin on the lower deck that can collectively sleep up to six guests. The crew quarters are also located on the lower deck and has two single cabins. All cabins come with en suites, natch.

On the main deck, a single corridor runs from the flybridge to the wheelhouse, the galley, the crew mess and the engine room. The wheelhouse, which connects to the foredeck through port and starboard doors, comes fitted with a central ship’s wheel and navigation station and access to the foredeck. There’s also a second cruise station above on the flybridge.

Outside, meanwhile, two wide side decks run from the bow to the stern to create a sense of flow around to the superstructure. At the stern, you’ll find a beach club with a multi-purpose platform that can lift and lower on demand to create a gangway or waterside lounge. The main deck aft is home to a shaded cockpit with a U-shaped sofa and table for 12, while the sundeck is equipped with another alfresco dining area and bar.

As for grunt, the 79-footer is powered by two Cummins 610HP QSM11 engines that promise a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 2,200 nautical miles at nine knots. Tenders and toys can be stored aft of the upper deck and deployed using the integrated telescopic crane.

Magnolia Yachts Reveals 24 Metre Trawler Inspired Superyacht

Stabilized by 1.0m2 Humphree Fins

Turkish yard Magnolia Yachts has revealed it has begun construction on a 24 metre trawler inspired pocket superyacht.

Estimated for delivery in early 2022, the 23.9 metre yacht features exterior design and naval architecture penned by O. Tanju Kalaycıoğlu.

Spacious accommodation and living areas on board are key, with a large main deck saloon leading into the galley, main deck lobby and forward to the wheelhouse. Guest accommodation is for a total of six across a full beam owner’s suite, forward VIP and one twin, all on the lower deck. The crew quarters, also on the lower deck, consists of two single cabins. All cabins, guest and crew, are ensuite.

Tenders and toys are stored aft of the upper deck and deployed using a 800kg x 5 metre tender crane. Powered by two 600HP 447 kW engines, the yacht will have a top speed of 14 knots and cruising speed of 12 knots. The range of 2200 nautical miles will be achieved at a speed of nine knots. For premium comfort and performance, the yacht will be equipped with Humphree 1.0m2 All Speed Fin Stabilizers.

Magnolia Building New Retro-Trawler

Magnolia Yachts, a new Turkish yard, just announced that they’re building their first boat, a 78-foot mahogany trawler with some retro looks and what the company calls “megayacht ergonomics” throughout.

The new yacht, called Magnolia One, has three cabins below for six guests plus two more for three crew. It’s powered by twin 600-hp Cummins diesels, producing a top speed of 14 knots, a cruising speed of 12 knots, and a range of 2,200 nm at 9 knots.

Magnolia was started in 2019 by the fourth generation owners of the Yardimci Shipping Group, a commercial ship builder. With a yard in Istanbul, they now want to concentrate on custom-made luxury yachts. Magnolia One will be finished before summer; the yard is already working on Magnolia Two , a 130-foot explorer yacht.

  Magnolia One is laid up with mahogany and an epoxy composite with E-glass. The decks are teak. The hull has a round bilge with a deep skeg. The yacht has new Humphree Fins gyro-stabilizers for comfort.

The hull on the trawler-inspired yacht is a dark green color with wooden accents for the window frames, rub rail and sun deck. The open salon deck leads to the galley, a lounge and the forward wheelhouse, with doors port and starboard opening to the wide side decks.

The slightly-curved transom folds down to become a waterside lounge. The cockpit has U-shaped seating with a table for 12. Up top, on the sun deck, there’s another dining space and a bar protected by a Bimini overhead. It’s open aft with room for storing a tender; an upper helm is forward, and a unique skylight is centered to flood the salon below with natural light.

On the lower deck, the luxurious master stateroom is full-beam amidships with dark wood decks, natural light-oak furniture and white satin lacquer finishing. The VIP cabin is forward and a twin guest cabin is between it and the master. They all have en suite heads and showers.

The Turkish shipyard Magnolia Yachts announces the delivery of its first yacht, the 24-metre pocket superyacht MAGNOLIA ONE inspired by trawler vessels with all the comforts of a luxury yacht. Taka Yacht Design created her neo-classical exterior lines as well as naval architecture incorporating a dark green hull and beautiful wooden details.

The yacht has plenty of outdoor areas for guests to enjoy, including a curved transom that folds down for easy access to the water, be it for lounging, boarding or loading. The shaded cockpit area boasts a u-shaped seating arrangement with an al fresco dining option for up to 12 guests. The sun deck offers yet another outdoor dining space, as well as a bar and a sunbathing area. The main saloon below is illuminated thanks to a unique skylight found in the centre of this deck.

The accommodation sleeps up to 6 guests in three elegantly appointed cabins with private ensuite bathroom facilities. These include a full-beam owner’s suite, a VIP suite located forward and a twin suite, all found on the lower deck. The lower deck also holds the crew quarters that accommodate a crew in two single cabins.

MAGNOLIA ONE is built using cold-molded techniques. Acajou mahogany is used with epoxy resin and e-glass sheathing. Her keel is ONE PIECE laminated iroko skeg keel and the frames are laminated iroko. It is one the most durable method of building the wooden hull that requires basically no maintenance in the life of the yacht. Her hull has got 30mm , first layer of Iroko strip plank plus 3 layers of 4mm Khaya ( Acajou) veneers laminated in different angles to give robust hull form. Frames are lam.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Owner:  The midship owner’s cabin makes full use of the boat’s 6.4 metre beam with dark wood floors, natural light oak furniture and white satin lacquer – a theme that continues throughout the interior of the vessel. Owner cabin has ensuite bathroom with double sink and book matched marble thoroughly. Ample storage coupled with vanity area in the starboard side has ample storage area.

Guests: Large VIP Cabin with en suite bathroom has the space and comfort of cabins found on much bigger yachts. Magnolia One has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 6 guests in 3 suites comprising one VIP cabin.  The guest cabin bathroom has a twin and a single bed with generous space for movement. The en suite bathrooms have a distinctive combination of luxury marble and light oak to create a stylish space.

Crew:  there are 2 crew cabins on Magnolia One  accessible from the main galley down. Climbing down the stairs from the galley, crew mess with proper prepping area that incorporates the doors to the captain and crew cabin greets you. On the starboard side, double cabin ( one pullman can be integrated to raise the crew member to 4) with comfortable and spacious en-suite bathroom is the Captains cabin . On the port side, cascaded twin beds are positioned in the cabin to accommodate two crew members . Also the same size as the captains cabin’s en-suite bathroom is present. Crew can access the swimming platfom without being noticed by anyone from the crew messroom, through the engine room and lazarette and out onto swimming platfom.

Main Salon:  MAGNOLIA ONE has an inviting salon with contemporary and cozy styled, very illuminated by the big windows and welcoming  main salon is divided by the cockpit with beautiful manually operated varnished mahogany door. Main skylight ( Deck prism I would call) with black out curtain is positioned right in the middle of the white lacquered loft style ceiling in the salon, taking advantage of the sun and daylight as much as possible. On the starboard side down the corridor, MAGNOLIA ONE offers a day head which is very uncommon in this size of yacht.

Galley: The galley offers both ample wor space and a comfortable dining area.Galley of MAGNOLIA ONE houses all necessary equipment that proper 30mt plus yacht has. It also included island serves as multipurpose station as bar at nights and comfortable snack area during day. MAGNOLIA ONE has full height refrigerator, 4 burner cooktop, microwave oven, stove oven, dishwasher , garbage compactor all from Miele.  

Design/style notes:  MAGNOLIA ONE  is designed/project managed by well known designer Tanju Kalaycioglu, who owns Taka Yacht design firm based in Istanbul. the interiors of MAGNOLIA ONE are characterized by dark wood floors, light oak furniture and white paintwork penned by Asli Hottic and Atilla Eren.

Aft Deck:   Stepping up from the swim platform guests are welcomed by a shaded cockpit with U-shaped seating around a table with room for 12 guests. A secondary al fresco dining space and adjacent bar are found on the sundeck beneath the shade of a bimini, with an open aft deck primed for sun lounging and storage for a tender. In the centre is a unique skylight that allows natural light to flood the main saloon below.

Sundeck/Flybridge: MAGNOLIA ONE has a truly spacious flybridge area similar to much bigger yachts. There is large U-shaped seat with table for 8 , a wet bar which is well organized and inward facing allowing comfortable socialization. Addittionally, there is plenty of room for a set of sunbeds and comfortable movement. The skylight is unique and classical design of MAGNOLIA ONE.

Foredeck: Foredeck host the beautiful teak coffee table together with the seating in the back shaded by very stylish bimini. Looking aft from foredeck, one can not miss the look of state of the art search light, skylight and the cowlings.

Beach Club: MAGNOLIA ONE  has got the swimming platfom with Opacmare six step transformer both serving as a gangway and lowering platform. Her aft platform makes her very comfortable at anchor when used.

Lazarette: Magnolia One has got the stern with Opacmare five step transformer both serving as a gangway and lowering platform. She features a beautiful teak laid platform with hot-cold washdown and entrance to lazarette for crew entrance to the crew area.

Magnolia One has been designed as displacement economical neoclassical trawler design , perfect fit for Mediterranean cruising in style and her shallow draft of 1,60 mt. allows her to cruise in the shallow waters of the Caribbeans.

Notes about the yacht’s build: Magnolia One is built using cold-molded techniques. Acajou mahogany is used with epoxy resin and e-glass sheathing. Gagarin cup (khl) finals:  atlant moscow oblast vs. salavat yulaev ufa.

Much like the Elitserien Finals, we have a bit of an offense vs. defense match-up in this league Final.  While Ufa let their star top line of Alexander Radulov, Patrick Thoresen and Igor Grigorenko loose on the KHL's Western Conference, Mytischi played a more conservative style, relying on veterans such as former NHLers Jan Bulis, Oleg Petrov, and Jaroslav Obsut.  Just reaching the Finals is a testament to Atlant's disciplined style of play, as they had to knock off much more high profile teams from Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg to do so.  But while they did finish 8th in the league in points, they haven't seen the likes of Ufa, who finished 2nd. 

This series will be a challenge for the underdog, because unlike some of the other KHL teams, Ufa's top players are generally younger and in their prime.  Only Proshkin amongst regular blueliners is over 30, with the work being shared by Kirill Koltsov (28), Andrei Kuteikin (26), Miroslav Blatak (28), Maxim Kondratiev (28) and Dmitri Kalinin (30).  Oleg Tverdovsky hasn't played a lot in the playoffs to date.  Up front, while led by a fairly young top line (24-27), Ufa does have a lot of veterans in support roles:  Vyacheslav Kozlov , Viktor Kozlov , Vladimir Antipov, Sergei Zinovyev and Petr Schastlivy are all over 30.  In fact, the names of all their forwards are familiar to international and NHL fans:  Robert Nilsson , Alexander Svitov, Oleg Saprykin and Jakub Klepis round out the group, all former NHL players.

For Atlant, their veteran roster, with only one of their top six D under the age of 30 (and no top forwards under 30, either), this might be their one shot at a championship.  The team has never won either a Russian Superleague title or the Gagarin Cup, and for players like former NHLer Oleg Petrov, this is probably the last shot at the KHL's top prize.  The team got three extra days rest by winning their Conference Final in six games, and they probably needed to use it.  Atlant does have younger regulars on their roster, but they generally only play a few shifts per game, if that. 

The low event style of game for Atlant probably suits them well, but I don't know how they can manage to keep up against Ufa's speed, skill, and depth.  There is no advantage to be seen in goal, with Erik Ersberg and Konstantin Barulin posting almost identical numbers, and even in terms of recent playoff experience Ufa has them beat.  Luckily for Atlant, Ufa isn't that far away from the Moscow region, so travel shouldn't play a major role. 

I'm predicting that Ufa, winners of the last Superleague title back in 2008, will become the second team to win the Gagarin Cup, and will prevail in five games.  They have a seriously well built team that would honestly compete in the NHL.  They represent the potential of the league, while Atlant represents closer to the reality, as a team full of players who played themselves out of the NHL.

11 presumed dead, 9 rescued after fishing boat sinks off South Africa

A South African minister on Sunday said that 11 fishermen, who went missing when a trawler sank off the coast of the country on Friday, are presumed dead.

"I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families of the 11 crew members who are now presumed deceased," Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Barbara Creecy, said in a statement . "The families of the bereaved fishermen have been informed that the search has been called off," she added.

The fishing vessel ran into difficulty and sent out a distress signal on Friday before sinking in the South Atlantic -- just 30 nautical miles off the Cape of Good Hope.

South Africa's lifeboat organization, the National Sea Rescue Institute, previously said 20 crew had been on board the missing trawler.

Nine survivors were found by other fishing vessels on a life raft. The organization said that the survivors were not injured and were brought to shore aboard a fellow fishing vessel during the night.

Lifeboats from Hout Bay and Table Bay on the Cape, along with helicopters and airplanes from private Cape Town operator Aerios Global were launched but difficult weather conditions and a lack of sightings brought the search to an end.

The organization said the search was being conducted in 3 to 4 meter sea swells and 10 to 15 knot winds.

"Thoughts and care are with the fishermen's families and the fishing company in this difficult time," the organization said.

An investigation into the cause of the sinking has been launched.

The yacht-spotter's guide to the F1 Monaco Grand Prix

Every year, Monaco’s Grand Prix pulls in some of the fleet’s finest superyachts for a weekend of adrenaline-fuelled F1 action and A-lister events in the heart of the principality. Yachts moored stern to the circuit have a premium vantage point over the cars tearing around the track, while superyachts at anchor can enjoy all the Formula One buzz with the added benefit of privacy and seclusion.

Renaissance

Length : 111.9m Builder : Freire

Renaissance is the largest private yacht built in Spain and one of the world's most expensive charter yachts . Which is quite the feat for Freire, a commercial shipyard that has built only one private yacht in the past. With 7,200GT to play with, her list of amenities include a sushi bar, a dedicated hair and beauty salon, a ballet bar with a mirror for stretching and two cinemas – one indoor, one outdoor. The owner's deck is described as "palatial" and comes with its own a media room, a lounge with bar and dining and a private terrace with a Jacuzzi for six.

Length : 52.1m Builder : Sanlorenzo

Spotted pulling into port with a Bugatti on the aft, Seven Sins is the perfect yacht for soaking up the Formula One action. She is part of Sanlorenzo's hugely successful 52Steel series, with features including a glass-bottomed pool on the aft that floods the beach club below with light. Her palatial interior design offers plenty of space for kicking back and watching the races in a more relaxed setting and her sharp Officina Italiana Design exterior is sure to attract attention in Monaco harbour. 

Length : 90m Builder : Benetti

Lionheart was launched in 2016 as the shipyard's largest build to date, though she was surpassed by the 107-metre Mar (ex Lana ) four years later. She was the third yacht to be ordered from Benetti by the same owner, Sir Philip Green. While her curvy exterior and private balconies will be visible to those visiting Port Hercule this weekend, interiors have always been shrouded in secrecy. It is known that  Stefano Natucci  collaborated with Benetti on the exterior design and Green & Mingarelli Design  is responsible for the interior design.

Fountainhead

Length : 87.8m   Builder : Feadship

Created with family use in mind, Fountainhead features a recreation room and library that can be converted into cabins to supplement the six existing guest cabins and owner's suite. She was designed by De Voogt Naval Architects and Sinot Yacht Design , though "a signature blend of art, antiques and aesthetics" by Belgian artist Axel Vervoordt are also displayed throughout.  Leisure highlights include a fully-equipped gym with health club, a contra-flow swimming pool and a tender garage that houses wave runners, kayaks, surfboard and diving equipment, among others. The superyacht is named after the famous novel by Ayn Rand.

Coral Ocean

Length : 72.6m Builder : Lürssen

A World Superyacht Award winner, Coral Ocean earned the judges' commendation following a sensitive, multi-million refit that converted the heritage vessel into a successful charter platform. All deck spaces were upgraded, including a reimagined sundeck that now houses a glass-sided spa pool, sunbathing and observation deck and a central deckhouse with a television lounge, dining area and bar. Coral Ocean was one of the largest launches of 1994 and her secrecy for the first two decades of her life solidified her as an icon for the German shipyard. She is owned by Australian garbage waste disposal giant Ian Malouf. 

Length : 72m   Builder : Lürssen

Delivered in 2006, Titania  (ex Apoise ) was put up for auction by her owner in 2010 and was snapped up for €33.75 million – roughly half the estimated value – by Phones4U tycoon John Caudwell. He then went on to refit, lengthen and rename the superyacht, which he discusses in an exclusive interview with BOAT International . Designed by Espen Øino and Francois Zuretti , the Lürssen was the star yacht in season six of The Crown and is a popular charter yacht. No wonder, as she sports a beach club that can be converted into a nightclub, an onboard masseuse and beautician and an impressive array of watersports – including a waterpark and a 12.7-metre slide.

Length : 70m Builder : Royal Denship

Force Blue first hit the water in 2002 as the 63.3-metre Big Roi , a trawler-style expedition yacht that has since been refitted to varying degrees. The most recent work was done at Lusben in 2022 and involved a seven-metre stern extension to allow for a large, wrap-around swim platform. The main deck was extended in the process as well. Design highlights include a black-tiled spa (with heated massage table), a cinema, a barbecue and dining area that turns into a disco and a dining room that doubles as a conference space. An elevator serves all decks.

Length : 67.5m Builder : Icon Yachts

The flagship of the Dutch shipyard, Loon (ex Icon ) is now anchored in Port Hercule where she is likely to cause another social media sensation . She was delivered in 2010 to a design by RWD , with clean, contemporary interiors by Studio Linse . A raised main deck pool is one of her many highlights with two panels of glass that filter natural light into the beach club below. A bar, gym, massage room and sauna are also found at this level. Loon was sold to a new owner in April 2023, after which she joined the charter fleet with IYC .

Length : 66m   Builder : Oceanco

AHS has undergone numerous name changes (she was sold and renamed mostly recently in January ) but started life as Dilbar in 2005. A successful charter yacht, she can be easily distinguished in port by her classic canoe stern. An interior by the late Alberto Pinto provides accommodation across eight cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite with its own lounge and adjoining private office. Other highlights include an outdoor cinema, a beamy sundeck with 19,000-litre pool and a helipad that transforms into a sun lounge.

Length : 49.9m Builder : Zepter

The Croatian yard's first superyacht offering, JoyMe is usually berthed in Cap d’Ail but has been sighted in Monaco for the past two Grands Prix. She’s one of the most recognisable yachts at the event, with her custom red and white exterior and unusual eye motif – said to be the eyes of the commissioning owner’s daughter. Leisure highlights include a Pop Art-inspired interior by  Marijana Radovic , a sundeck with a 3.5-metre Jacuzzi and a lower deck arranged with a gym, Finnish sauna and Hammam spa with sea views. Accommodation is across five cabins, including the "VIP deck" owner's cabin which has a walk-in bathroom, lounge and private sunbathing platform on the bow.

Length : 45.2m Builder : Royal Hakvoort

The most recent delivery on the list, Milele is one of this year's World Superyacht Award winners . According to the judges, she stood out thanks to her "incredible build quality” and surprising spaces on board. Most notable of these is the innovative foredeck garage, which stores a submarine and crane, and has a full entertainment suite with a large television screen built into its hatch. She was designed inside and out by Omega Architects with an efficient hull design by Van Oossanen Naval Architects .

The Unique Burial of a Child of Early Scythian Time at the Cemetery of Saryg-Bulun (Tuva)

In 1988, the Tuvan Archaeological Expedition (led by M. E. Kilunovskaya and V. A. Semenov) discovered a unique burial of the early Iron Age at Saryg-Bulun in Central Tuva. There are two burial mounds of the Aldy-Bel culture dated by 7th century BC. Within the barrows, which adjoined one another, forming a figure-of-eight, there were discovered 7 burials, from which a representative collection of artifacts was recovered. Burial 5 was the most unique, it was found in a coffin made of a larch trunk, with a tightly closed lid. Due to the preservative properties of larch and lack of air access, the coffin contained a well-preserved mummy of a child with an accompanying set of grave goods. The interred individual retained the skin on his face and had a leather headdress painted with red pigment and a coat, sewn from jerboa fur. The coat was belted with a leather belt with bronze ornaments and buckles. Besides that, a leather quiver with arrows with the shafts decorated with painted ornaments, fully preserved battle pick and a bow were buried in the coffin. Unexpectedly, the full-genomic analysis, showed that the individual was female. This fact opens a new aspect in the study of the social history of the Scythian society and perhaps brings us back to the myth of the Amazons, discussed by Herodotus. Of course, this discovery is unique in its preservation for the Scythian culture of Tuva and requires careful study and conservation.

Out of the Centre

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
