Making and protecting your charter.

Chartering a yacht through Anacortes Yacht Charters is easy and affordable. Our team is dedicated to making it as easy as possible to book your vacation and enjoy time on the water in the Northwest. We have entry level boats that are great for first timers and families plus yachts for more experienced yachtsman. Chartering is also a great opportunity to try before you buy!

Booking Summary

• Call us for yacht availability on your preferred vacation dates. Charter rates vary based on the season and are noted on each vessel page. See our Seasonal Rate schedule below for applicable dates.

• Submit 30% Reservation Deposit that includes a non-refundable $200 Booking Fee to book a yacht on the dates you prefer.

Choose Your Season

Charter rates differ across our fleet because of the variety of types, sizes and amenities. Rates also differ based on the season of the year. The following graphic shows the dates and color coding for the 2024 charter season.

Our team can easily provide detailed quotes for multiple boats and seasons so you can clearly see the costs and service fees for each option to enable you to make a fully informed decision without the worry of hidden costs.

Book Your Charter

To confirm your charter booking, a small, non-refundable Booking Fee and a Reservation Deposit is required. The Booking Fee is applied to your total Charter Fee. We will then forward to you the necessary charter paperwork including your Charter Agreement, Boating Experience Resume form, and a Vacation Planning Packet for you to complete and return.

The balance of the charter fees along with payment for provisioning and extra services is due 75 days or 120 days prior to your departure date depending on vessel size.

Qualifications

Our duty to you and the boat owner is to ensure that you are qualified to safely operate the yacht. To achieve this:

• We will assess your skills and experience with a review of your submitted Boating Resume and may have a short conversation to better understand your abilities.
• We may suggest or require that you successfully complete a Boating Class , Pre-Qualification or arrange for a Cruise and Learn .

Short Charters

Most of our charterers reserve a vessel for 7-nights, but for some, a vacation isn’t a full week, or doesn’t easily stretch from one weekend to the next. We can accommodate shorter charters on certain vessels depending on availability and with some restrictions. If you are interested in a shorter charter, it is best to contact us for specific options.

• Discounts and Special Offers do not apply to charters less than 5-nights.
• During Gold Season, a minimum of 6-nights is required. However, we may be able to accommodate short charters if they can be scheduled between other, existing charters. Please contact us for more information or to be wait listed for short charter availability during Gold Season.
• During Red, Blue and White seasons, we can schedule charters of less than 5-nights. These short charters are calculated at the applicable season rate for each yacht and are subject to a surcharge and yacht fee* as noted below.

The short charter policy above is effective March 6, 2024.

* The yacht fee is a specific amount for each vessel and covers fixed costs required for each charter. Specific fee amounts will be quoted on request.

Cancellations

If you must cancel your charter the following terms will apply:

Optional Travel Protection Insurance, once purchased, is non-refundable. Specialty Charters (e.g. Boats 70′ and up, Long-term Charters of 20+ days, One-Way Charters, Crewed Yacht Charters) are subject to a boat-specific cancellation policy. Please call for details.

Daily Damage Fee

Our low Daily Damage Fee covers hull and machinery damage aboard your chosen yacht with the exception of the following Operator Errors:

• Running out of fuel
• Wrapping dock lines around running gear. This has the potential of causing major damage especially on sailing vessels with small shafts & struts. Wrapping a dock line around the vessel’s running gear can cause it to “snap” tight, causing shaft and/or struts to be bent out of alignment.
• Batteries allowed to run dead . Know when to recharge!
• Plugged Heads/Overfilled Holding Tanks
• Filling tanks with incorrect fluids . Removing diesel fuel from water tanks or water from diesel tanks can be very expensive. Complete removal of the physical fresh water tanks, lines and pumps may be required if diesel is introduced into the water system. Water in diesel tanks can cause extensive engine damage.
• No Start due to Shift Lever in Forward/Reverse instead of in NEUTRAL
• No Start due to Fuel Shut-Off
• Failure to open thru-hull valves after checking sea strainers causing over-heating, impeller failure or more serious engine problems/repairs
• Lack of vigilance while anchored, or grounding due to tidal swings or dragging. Client will be responsible for damage, dives, tows, chase boat calls, etc. for such issues.
• Groundings in areas with known hazards, rocks, shallows, including but not limited to Red Zone/Frequently Hit Rocks map supplied by AYC. Insurance deductibles and/or repairs and associated costs are not covered due to this type of negligence by charterer or charterer’s crew. Know where you are at all times!

If it is necessary to respond to these or similar problems, the charterer will be responsible for all associated costs.

The Daily Damage Fee applies to the first 21 days, with a 3-night minimum. Additional days beyond 21 are calculated at 50% of the daily fee or $30 whichever is greater. Upon arrival, a credit card imprint will be required and held on file in lieu of a security deposit. This credit card may be charged for outstanding fees and items not covered by the daily damage fee, such as plugged heads.

P&I (Liability) Fee

A small flat rate premium for Property & Indemnity (Liability) insurance is also required that provides $1,000,000 of coverage. This is for third party claims initiated for the time you are in charge of the vessel against You, the Yacht Owner, or AYC. Rates for this P&I policy vary by boat and are listed below the Charter Rates table on each boat’s detail page.

• Travel Protection Insurance

We encourage you to consider purchasing one of our exclusive Travel Protection Plans with TripAssure. These plans protect against cancellation penalties if your trip is cancelled for covered reasons. The products offered range in price as some plans cover more than others.

CLIMATE: Temperatures in the ABC Islands are uniformly hot, averaging around 28 to 30 °C (82.4 to 86.0 °F) year-round, with high humidity and minima rarely falling below 20 °C or 68 °F even on the mildest mornings, although afternoons rarely top 35 °C or 95 °F.

Rotary volunteers stranded after Air Vanuatu collapse offered luxury cruise home as P&O comes to the rescue

A group of Australian volunteers stranded on the island of Tanna following the collapse of Air Vanuatu last week have been offered a way to get home, and they'll be travelling in style. 

The contingent of young volunteers from the Albury-based Hive Rotary Club were volunteering in the Pacific when Air Vanuatu collapsed.

The group has now managed to secure a charter flight from Tanna to Port Vila and will then board a P&O cruiseliner to Sydney after the shipping company reached out to them.

Hive president Kellie Kadoui said the group was "rapt" to have found a way home.

"Once we learnt that Air Vanuatu weren't flying, it's almost impossible to get off Tanna unless you charter a very expensive plane," she said.

"We finally got a charter flight out on Wednesday through Vanuatu Tourism, so they paid for that cost.

"And then P&O reached out to us and said, 'We are actually docking in Port Vila on the 17th. Can we take you home?'"

Twenty members of the group are expected to board the Pacific Adventure today and will arrive back in Sydney on May 23.

An expensive trip home

The volunteers heard the airline was in trouble after they flew into Port Vila on Sunday, May 5.

On Thursday, May 9, the airline announced that all of its international flights were cancelled .

The next day, Ernest & Young confirmed that it had been appointed as administrators for the airline, which has been supported by the Vanuatu government for some time.

The young volunteers were scheduled to fly with Air Vanuatu from Tanna to Port Vila on Saturday, May 18, and then take a connecting flight back to Australia.

But, Ms Kadaoui said, once the airline's flights were cancelled, the volunteers only had two options — either to wait for a boat that made two trips a week from Tanna to Port Vila, or pay for an expensive private charter flight that would cost $5,000 for the whole group.

It was a relief when Vanuatu Tourism and P&O came to their rescue.

Twenty-year-old Sarah Long, one of the volunteers on the trip, said the uncertainty had been "a little chaotic for a while" and that it was nice to know that they finally had a way to get home.

"We were sort of up in the air and unsure what was going on but I think we're all very thankful for P&O coming to the table," she said.

However, Ms Kadaoui said the group still faced out-of-pocket expenses totalling about $10,000 because their travel insurance would not cover extra expenses accrued during their unexpected stay in Port Vila, or the rescheduling costs of their domestic flights in Australia once the group arrives back in Sydney. 

Airline in 'significant financial distress'

Ernst & Young have told creditors Air Vanuatu is in "significant financial distress".

A liquidators' report outlined the airline's debts, which total $110 million.

"The company's financial position is dire, and it clearly cannot fund its own operations," the report said.

Ernst & Young thanked Vanuatu's government for its financial support, without which they said there would be "no other choice" but to shut the airline down.

The report also revealed Air Vanuatu's staff doubled as essential ground operations personnel at several of the country's airports.

Only two of the airline's planes remain flight-ready, with a Boeing 747 repossessed, and three other aircraft needing maintenance.

Ukraine's mobilization law comes into force as new Russian push strains troops

Some fear Russia's new offensive could reach Ukraine’s second-largest city.

KYIV, Ukraine -- A divisive mobilization law in Ukraine came into force on Saturday, as Kyiv struggles to boost troop numbers after Russia launched a new offensive that some fear could close in on Ukraine’s second-largest city.

The legislation, which was watered down from its original draft, will make it easier to identify every conscript in the country. It also provides incentives to soldiers, such as cash bonuses or money toward buying a house or car, that some analysts say Ukraine cannot afford.

Lawmakers dragged their feet for months and only passed the law in mid-April, a week after Ukraine lowered the age for men who can be drafted from 27 to 25. The measures reflect the growing strain that more than two years of war with Russia has had on Ukraine’s forces, who are trying to hold the front lines in fighting that has sapped the country’s ranks and stores of weapons and ammunition.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also signed two other laws Friday, allowing prisoners to join the army and increasing fines for draft dodgers fivefold. Russia enlisted its prisoners early on in the war, and personnel shortages compelled Ukraine to adopt the new, controversial measures.

Oleksii, 68, who runs a car repair shop in Kyiv, worries his business will have to shut down as he expects 70% of his workers will be mobilized. He asked that only his first name be used to allow him to speak freely.

“With the new law, people will be mobilized and we will have to shut down and stop paying taxes,” Oleksii told The Associated Press on Saturday. He said it's very difficult to replace workers because of their specialized skills. Most of them are already in the armed forces, he said, adding that the law is “unfair” and “unclear.”

Even essential municipal services will be affected. Viktor Kaminsky, the head of a municipal service department in Kyiv that fits households with heating and repairs utilities in public buildings, said he will struggle to replace mobilized staff and meet demand, even though the law allows him to retain half of workers deemed fit for service.

He said 60 of the 220 people working in Kaminsky's department will be eligible to be called up. “If they take 30 people from what we have, the problem is we don’t have anyone to replace them," he said.

“There are pros and cons to this law,” Kaminsky said. “It's hard to avoid the mobilization process now, compared to before when people were trying to get around it.” But, he said, it would be better if essential workers like his were granted more exemptions.

Meanwhile, Oleksii Tarasenko, a deputy commander of a Ukrainian assault battalion, told AP that his men felt “awful” about the law's failure to address the issue of demobilization. Although many Ukrainian troops have been fighting since the war's early days, it remains unclear when and how they might be relieved of duty.

“It feels like a cruel injustice towards people who have been fighting for two years, and of course, it has a highly negative effect on the psychological state of soldiers and their families,” Tarasenko said.

Early drafts of the law envisaged the demobilization of troops after 36 months, and the rotation of those serving on the front line for more than half a year. These clauses were dropped following a last-minute appeal by Ukraine's military leadership, concerned that the armed forces would be left without their best-trained and most experienced troops. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry is working on a separate demobilization law.

Tarasenko said that despite their weariness, his comrades could see the generals' point.

“We already see how many people are lacking, especially professional troops in the units. And simply allowing such professional people who have been through a lot to demobilize would be wrong," he said.

Ukraine has struggled for months to replenish depleted forces, as Russian troops are pushing ahead with a ground offensive that opened a new front in the northeast and put further pressure on Kyiv’s overstretched military. After weeks of probing, Moscow launched the new push knowing that Ukraine suffered personnel shortages, and that its forces have been spread thin in the northeastern Kharkiv region.

Moscow’s forces have pummeled Kharkiv with strikes in recent weeks, hitting civilian and energy infrastructure and prompting angry accusations from Zelenskyy that the Russian leadership sought to reduce the city to rubble. Mayor Ihor Terekhov said that five people were injured on Saturday in a Russian airstrike that hit a residential area. On Friday, Terekhov reported that Russian guided bombs killed at least three Kharkiv residents and injured 28 others.

Moscow denies deliberately targeting civilians, but thousands have died or suffered injuries in the more than 27 months of fighting.

Kharkiv regional Gov. Ihor Syniehubov on Saturday said that nearly 10,000 civilians had to be evacuated from front-line areas near the Russian border. Only 100 residents remain in Vovchansk, the border town at the center of Moscow's grinding push that's now largely in ruins. The town had a pre-war population of over 17,400.

The U.S. last week announced a new $400 million package of military aid for Ukraine, and President Joe Biden has promised that he would rush badly needed weaponry to the country to help it stave off Russian advances. Still, only small batches of U.S. military aid have started to trickle into the front line, according to Ukrainian military commanders, who said it will take at least two months before supplies meet Kyiv’s needs to hold the line.

Rusyn is the head of recruitment for the 3rd Assault Brigade, one of the most popular among Ukrainian volunteers. He told AP that he saw a 15% increase in men joining the brigade, which fights in eastern Ukraine, in the past months. Most recruits are aged between 23-25, he said. Speaking at a training session in Kyiv, Rusyn and his recruits asked to be identified by their call signs only, citing security concerns.

“There is no alternative (to mobilization),” said Rohas, a 26-year old recruit. “One way or another, I believe that most men will end up in the ranks of the armed forces and by joining as a volunteer, you still get some preferences.”

“Those who are afraid of being mobilized are not the ones hostage to this situation, it's those (soldiers) who are standing in formations of three where there should be 10. Those guys are hostages to this situation and they should be replaced, so that’s why we are here," Rohas said.

Many Ukrainians have fled the country to avoid the draft since Russia’s all-out invasion in February 2022.

The Supreme Court last month said that 930 people were convicted of avoiding mobilization in 2023, a fivefold increase from the previous year.

Around 768,000 Ukrainian men aged 18-64 had been granted temporary protection in European Union countries as of last November, according to data from the bloc's statistical agency, Eurostat.

Kyiv has barred men under 60 from leaving the country since the start of the war, but some are exempt, including those who are disabled or have three or more dependent children. The Eurostat data does not specify how many of the men who have qualified for protection belong to these categories, nor how many others reached the EU from Ukraine's Russian-occupied territories in the east and south.

Unable to cross the border legally, some Ukrainian men risk death trying to swim across a river that separates Ukraine from neighboring Romania and Hungary.

Late on Friday, Ukraine’s border service said that at least 30 people have died trying to cross the Tisza River since the full scale-invasion.

Romanian border guards days earlier retrieved the near-naked, disfigured body of a man that appeared to have been floating in the Tisza for days, and is the 30th known casualty, the Ukrainian agency said in an online statement. It said the man has not yet been identified.

Many of the videos are trying to appeal to right-wing voters with fake messages about President Biden, experts say.

Last month, a video began circulating on social media purporting to tell the story of an internet troll farm in Kyiv targeting the American election.

Speaking in English with a Slavic accent, “Olesya” offers a first-person account of how she and her colleagues initially worked in support of President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. Then, she says, after a visit by mysterious Americans who were “probably C.I.A.,” the group began sending messages to American audiences in support of President Biden.

“We were told our new target was the United States of America, especially the upcoming elections,” the woman in the video says. “Long story short, we were asked to do everything to prevent Donald Trump from winning the elections.”

The video is fake, part of an effort to cloud the political debate ahead of the U.S. elections.

U.S. officials say the video is consistent with Russian disinformation operations as internet warriors aligned with Russia appear to be honing their strategy. Some of the old tactics of 2016 or 2020 could be used again, with new refinements.

An analysis of the video done by U.S. intelligence agencies found that the voice of “Olesya” was synthetically generated, an intelligence official said Thursday, a potential sign of how Russian operatives are blending new techniques with old tactics.

While there has been much hand-wringing over the role that artificial intelligence could play this year in fooling voters, current and former officials said that videos were one of the most immediate threats.

Microsoft said the video featuring “Olesya” probably came from a group it calls Storm-1516, a collection of disinformation experts who now focus on creating videos they hope might go viral in America.

The group most likely includes veterans of the Internet Research Agency, a Kremlin-aligned troll farm that sought to influence the 2016 election. The agency was run by Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder of the Wagner mercenary group who led a rebellion against the Kremlin and then was killed in a plane crash that American and allied officials believe was orchestrated by Russian intelligence agencies.

Microsoft said the group also included people associated with Valery Korovin, the figurehead of an obscure Moscow-based think tank called the Center for Geopolitical Expertise, a conservative organization affiliated with Aleksandr Dugin, an ultranationalist writer who faces U.S. sanctions for his role in recruiting fighters for the war.

Russian operatives are leaning into videos, many of them that falsely purport to be made by independent journalists or whistle-blowers. The videos, opposed to blog or social media posts, are more likely to spread beyond the conspiratorial fringes of America and become part of mainstream discourse.

On Wednesday afternoon, Avril D. Haines, the director of national intelligence, told the Senate Intelligence Committee that Russia was the most active threat to the coming election. Russia, she said, tries to erode trust in democratic institutions, exacerbate social divisions and undermine support for Ukraine.

“Russia relies on a vast multimedia influence apparatus, which consists of its intelligence services, cyberactors, state media proxies and social media trolls,” she said. “Moscow most likely views such operations as a means to tear down the United States.”

China has a sophisticated influence operation and is increasingly confident in its ability to affect election results, Ms. Haines said. But she added that the intelligence community assessed that China did not try to influence the 2020 presidential election, and that so far there was no information that China would be more active in this year’s contests.

Senator Mark Warner, Democrat of Virginia and the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, said that adversaries had a greater incentive than ever to intervene in elections but that the public had too often treated such meddling “as trivial or quaint.”

Clint Watts, the general manager of Microsoft’s Threat Analysis Center, said pushing out written disinformation with bots was largely a waste of time — in 2024 it is disinformation video that has the best chance of spreading with American audiences.

The C.I.A. video, Mr. Watts said, was a classic Russian tactic: accuse your adversary of the very thing you are doing. “When they say there’s a troll farm operated by Zelensky in Ukraine going after the U.S. election, what they’re saying is this is what we’re doing,” Mr. Watts said.

Walter Trosin, a spokesman for the C.I.A., said the agency was not involved in the activities described in the video.

“This claim is patently false and precisely the type of disinformation that the intelligence community has long warned about,” Mr. Trosin said. “C.I.A. is a foreign-focused organization that takes our obligation to remain uninvolved in American politics and elections very seriously.”

At the Senate hearing, Ms. Haines praised the C.I.A. for calling out the video publicly, saying it was an example of how the government will identify disinformation by Russia or other countries during the current election.

Multiple groups in Russia push out disinformation aimed at America . In addition to the videos, researchers and government officials say, Russia has created a handful of fake American local news sites and is using them to push out Kremlin propaganda , interspersed with stories about crime, politics and culture.

Gen. Paul M. Nakasone, who retired from the Army this year and is the former director of the National Security Agency, said the best defense to Russian disinformation remained the same: identifying it and publicizing the propaganda push. The United States, he said, needs to expand its information sharing both domestically and around the world so people can identify, and discount, disinformation spread by Moscow.

“The great antidote to all of this is being able to shine a light on it,” said General Nakasone, who last week was named as the founding director of Vanderbilt University’s new Institute for National Defense and Global Security. “If they are trying to influence or interfere in our elections, we should make it as hard as possible for them.”

Some mainstream Republicans have already warned fellow lawmakers to be wary of repeating claims that originated in Russian disinformation or propaganda.

“We see directly coming from Russia attempts to mask communications that are anti-Ukraine and pro-Russia messages, some of which we even hear being uttered on the House floor,” Representative Michael R. Turner, an Ohio Republican who is the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told CNN’s “State of the Union” on April 7.

Russia’s information warriors have pushed fake videos to spread lies about Ukraine , aimed at undermining its credibility or painting it as corrupt. Republican politicians opposed to sending more aid to Ukraine have repeated baseless allegations that Mr. Zelensky has tried through associates to buy a yacht, disinformation that first appeared on a video posted to YouTube and other social media sites.

Most of the videos produced by Storm-1516 fail to get traction. Others come close. A video pushed out on a Russian Telegram channel purported to show Ukrainian soldiers burning an effigy of Mr. Trump, blaming him for delays in aid shipments.

The video was highlighted on Alex Jones’s right-wing conspiracy site, InfoWars, and other English-language outlets. But it was quickly discounted — the purportedly Ukrainian soldiers had Russian accents and were masked.

“This campaign has been working to advance some of Russia’s key objectives, particularly that of portraying Ukraine as a corrupt, rogue state that cannot be trusted with Western aid,” Mr. Watts said.

Since last August, Microsoft has identified at least 30 videos produced by Storm-1516. The first ones were aimed at Ukraine. But others are trying to influence American politics by appealing to right-wing audiences with messages that Mr. Biden is benefiting from Ukrainian assistance.

Intelligence officials, lawmakers and security firms have warned about the use of artificial intelligence by China, Russia and other nation states intent on spreading disinformation. But so far, Russian groups like Storm-1516 have mostly avoided using A.I. tools, according to security firms.

“Many of the A.I. campaigns are easy to detect or unwind,” said Brian Murphy, the general manager of national security at Logically, which tracks disinformation. “A.I. is getting better, but it is still not at the stage this year wherein it is going to be used at the scale and with the quality some predict. Maybe in a year or so.”

Both government officials and outside experts, however, have said that A.I.-altered audio had proved more effective than altered videos. At the hearing on Wednesday, Ms. Haines highlighted a fake audio recording released in Slovakia two days before its parliamentary election. While quickly identified as fake, news and government agencies struggled to disclose the manipulation and the target of the fake recording lost a close election.

Outside experts have said that artificial intelligence has been used in some Russian propaganda videos to obscure accents. It is not clear exactly why a synthetic voice would have been used in the fake video of the C.I.A. troll farm.

But on Wednesday, Ms. Haines said artificial intelligence and other innovations “have enabled foreign influence actors to produce seemingly authentic and tailored messaging more efficiently at greater scale and with content adapted for different languages and cultures.”

For now, though, basic videos like the C.I.A. troll farm or yacht video that purport to have authentic narrators with access to exquisite information are the most prevalent threat.

In 2016, Russian-controlled propagandists could push out fake news articles or social media posts and, in some cases, have an impact. But now, those old techniques do not work.

“No one will pay attention to that nowadays,” Mr. Watts said. “You have to have a video form to really grab an American audience today, which 10 years ago was just not even technically that possible.”
