Guidelines to responsible yachting

If you’re looking to explore our beautiful planet, a yacht charter is a great place to start. Explore coral reefs with your snorkel, discover hidden bays and islands and generally enjoy the view of nature. Remember, that sailing motto:  'Take only photos, leave only wake'  (OK, so we paraphrased). To be a responsible sailor, remember:

  • Don’t disturb coral or sealife
  • Take your trash home (and don’t throw anything in the sea)
  • Respect the locals and their customs wherever you go

The best things to see and do in Monaco

Despite its compact size, Monaco is a luxury destination with a superb selection of things to see and do.

Even if you don’t want a flutter, the famed Monte-Carlo Casino is well worth visiting, located in the Golden Square, Monaco’s most exclusive address. Order a martini at the bar and admire the Belle Epoque building, designed by Charles Garnier and Jules Dutrou, with its many chandeliers and frescoes. Next door, the gilded Hôtel de Paris houses Alain Ducasse’s Michelin-starred Le Louis XV. Alternatively, the late Joël Robuchon’s eponymous restaurant is just a short stroll away at the equally elegant Hôtel Métropole.

This city is also well known for partying, whether aboard your superyacht or in the town at venues such as Sass Cafe, Twiga, or Jimmy’z nightclub.

For those who love to shop, Monaco is a dream with its collection of designer boutiques housed along with Monaco’s Avenue de Monte-Carlo, Avenue des Beaux-Arts, and the Allées Lumières center. From Piaget to YSL and all the other LVMH brands, among many others, there is no bona fide international designer without a boutique in the principality.

For those looking for a bit of pampering while on a Monaco superyacht charter, two spas rule the well-being scene in Monte Carlo: The Spa Metropole by Givenchy at the Metropole Monte Carlo and the Thérmes Marins Monte Carlo, which boasts a vast menu of thalassotherapy experiences.

For those wanting to stretch their sea legs, Monaco has something to offer all fitness capabilities. Wander the old town’s narrow streets in Monaco-Ville and visit the Prince’s Palace and Saint Nicholas Cathedral. If you are a fan of Grace Kelly, head to the rose garden in Fontvieille Park, built in her memory. For additional space in Monaco, check out the Jardin Exotique de Monaco and the Japanese Gardens.

Golf enthusiasts are in for a treat as well, with the Golf Club de Monte Carlo and the Monte Carlo Country Club. Both offer excellent courses with panoramic views over the Mediterranean Sea.

How much does it cost to charter a luxury yacht in Monaco?

The cost of a luxury yacht charter in Monaco will primarily be determined by the size of the vessel, the itinerary, and the length of the charter. Expect to pay at least US$200,000 per week for a luxury boat rental in Monaco and over one million per week for the world’s finest superyachts. Moran Yacht & Ship excels at creating incredible experiences on the water aboard the world’s finest yachts. Our fleet of charter yachts features vessels built by pedigree shipbuilders, including Lürssen, Feadship, Amels, Nobiskrug, and Oceanco. Contact our team today.

What is the Advanced Provisioning Allowance, or APA?

The Advanced Provisioning Allowance, or APA, is designed to cover non-fixed costs, such as fuel, berthing costs, and food and drinks. Your luxury yacht broker will provide an estimated APA based on your needs. The APA is paid before the charter, and the captain will use the funds to cover your day-to-day costs. Any funds left at the end of the charter will be immediately refunded to you, along with a full breakdown of all expenses. During your yacht charter experience, you are free to ask the captain for details of the APA, including what has been used and what remains. The APA typically costs around 10% of the base charter rate.

What amenities can I expect on a luxury yacht?

The type of amenities you can expect on a luxury yacht will depend on the size of the vessel, with larger yachts able to accommodate a larger number of amenities. Moran Yacht & Ship has access to a superb selection of Monaco motor yachts for charter, including the world’s largest vessels. Some of the amenities you can expect to find on our Monaco yachts for rent include hot tubs, swimming pools, dedicated cinema rooms, fully equipped gyms, spa facilities, water toys and tenders, helipads, beach clubs, and luxurious salons and staterooms. All our yachts are fully crewed, ensuring spectacular service levels that rival the world’s best hotels. Your yacht’s crew will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy unforgettable moments on the water. They will also boast intimate knowledge of Monaco and the French Riviera. If you are sold on a Monaco yacht charter, contact a luxury charter broker at Moran.

How many guests can I take?

Most yachts for charter can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests while cruising. However, there are some charter vessels that are able to accommodate a larger number of guests. A luxury charter brokerage, like Moran Yacht & Ship, can secure a vessel based on your precise needs. Contact our team today.

What availability is there for Monaco yacht charters?

While there is a superb selection of yachts for charter in Monaco, the best vessels are in high demand. We suggest booking a Monaco yacht charter as far in advance as possible, especially around key events such as the Monaco Grand Prix. However, last-minute bookings are available. Contact our team if you want to reserve a luxury Monaco yacht for charter.

Can I rent a yacht for the Monaco Grand Prix?

Absolutely! A yacht charter for the Monaco Grand Prix is the best way to enjoy this world-class event. The yachts that are moored in a prime position in Port Hercules benefit from superb views of the racetrack.

What other events can I attend in Monaco?

  • The Rose Ball, held annually by the Societe des Bains de Mer. This high-profile event is usually held every March and attracts VIPs, celebrities, and royalty.

If you would like to charter a yacht in Monaco for any of the above events, contact the Moran team today. Our charter brokers will be delighted to assist you, including helping you to select your perfect motor yacht and arranging a tailored itinerary in this luxury destination.

Monaco boasts several ports that you can berth in:

Port Hercules

Port Hercules is, without question, one of the world’s most iconic and glamorous ports. This natural, deep-water port is just moments away from Monte-Carlo, home to Monaco’s most extravagant amenities. With depths ranging from 5 to 40 meters, Port Hercules can accommodate the world’s largest mega yachts. The port provides a wide range of yachting facilities, as well as the superb Monaco Yacht Club, designed by the world-renowned British architect Lord Norman Foster.

Port of Fontvieille

This well-protected harbor is a smaller port than Port Hercules and is located in the district of Fontvieille, a vibrant residential and commercial area that borders France. Berths in this marina are all reserved in advance, and it does not accept transiting vessels.

Port of Cala del Forte

The Port of Cala del Forte is Monaco’s newest marina; however, it’s actually located just over the border in Ventimiglia, Italy. The port boasts world-class facilities, with a waterfront with luxury shops, restaurants, and a shipyard. Regular high-speed shuttles run daily between the Port of Cala del Forte and Port Hercules and are reserved strictly for guests of this Monaco marina.

The number of crew members will depend on the size of the vessel. At a minimum, you can expect at least three crew members, including a captain, deckhand, and stewardess, with the largest Monaco yachts for charter boasting a crew in excess of 20 plus, including dive masters and trained watersports operators, sommeliers, spa therapists, personal trainers, and a dedicated culinary team.

Luxury Boat Rental Monaco: The Perfect Itinerary

Your Monaco day yacht charter itinerary is flexible. This allows you to spend your day exactly how you want to! If you are unsure of the best places to see on a boat rental Monaco, 212 Yachts local experts and your captain will be happy to help you plan the perfect day!

Monaco day yacht charter guests often enjoy the following day trip, which includes Monaco’s Le Rocher, Eze, Cap Ferrat, Villefranche sur Mer, Nice, Antibes / Cap D’Antibes, the Cannes Islands and Cannes. There is no better way to see all of these stunning sights than with a boat charter from Monaco!

After boarding your luxury boat rental in Monaco (our team will inform you of the exact pick up point before your charter, and also provide the contact details of your crew to ensure a timely and smooth pick-up), slowly cruise through Port Hercules. Port Hercules is one of the most recognizable ports in the world, overlooked by landmarks such as the Monaco Grand Prix circuit, the Monaco Yacht Club and the stunning Hotel Hermitage. Many of the finest superyachts are based in Monaco, making this initial cruise out of the Port one to remember. Shortly after navigating West, you will pass the towering Oceanographique Museum perched on Le Rocher – certainly worthy of a photo from the deck of your luxury boat rental!

The Perfect Monaco Yacht Rental Summer Vibe

The next stop is Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, famed as a plush Summer retreat for aristocracy, celebrities and successful business-people. Cap Ferrat boasts a stunning Mediterranean climate, full of tranquil bays with calm, warm turquoise waters. And some of the finest villas on the French Riviera (and all of the Mediterranean!). This is a great place to enjoy your first swim of the day. When diving off of your swimming platform, while chilled beverages, snacks and towels lie ready for your return. One can easily enjoy Cap Ferrat for several hours, soaking in the sights such as Eze, the Villa Ephrusi de Rothschild, the Grand-Hôtel du Cap, and the tranquil Cap Ferrat Port.

There are several small but pretty beaches along the Cap also, including Paloma Beach, Passable Beach and Cro de Peï Pin. Slightly further West lies Villefranche-sur- Mer, a gorgeous sea-side village that boasts one of the Mediterranean’s deepest natural harbors. As a result, some of the largest superyachts in the world often drop anchor in the Bay, adding to the stunning scenery.  If you are enjoying a lunch on-board your Monaco day yacht charter, the calm bay of Villefranche is a perfect anchorage for such an occasion. If you are adding a beach club experience to your luxury boat charter from Monaco, see our top beach clubs below!

Explore the Beauty of Cap Ferrat and Antibes by Yacht

After lunch, you may like to return to the peaceful bays around Cap Ferrat. Or cruise past Nice towards the Medieval Old Town of Antibes. The pretty bay of Antibes is gorgeous, with the stone walls and towers of the Vielle Vieux rising above the impressive ramparts that protected the town from invaders hundreds of years prior. You are now very close to the Cap D’Antibes, frequently featured in cinematography, literature and popular culture as a haven for the elite. Discover more stunning bays for a swim, or cruise past the seaside resorts of Juan Les Pins and Golfe Juan toward the Cannes Islands. The Cannes Islands, or Lérins Islands as they are known, are a small archipelago of 4 islands a stones-throw from the shores of Cannes.

Restrictions to vehicle use and property development have left the islands largely untouched. Only with the exception of Saint Honoratus’ Monastery, the Fort of St Marguerite, that once held the Man with the Iron Mask Captive. Also it consists of a collection military installations spanning the eras of Napoleon to World War Two. The channel between the islands is a hotbed for luxury yacht owners and boat rental guests, with an electric atmosphere felt in the Summer. You can even order pizza and ice cream from a small boat that frequents the channel! Before returning to Monaco, be sure to pull into the Bay of Cannes to capture the instantly recognizable Palais des Festival and the Croisette. As always complete with perfectly pruned palm trees, the facades of the Carlton Cannes, the Martinez and the Grand Hotel. And of course the distant roar of super cars.

Explore Le Rocher, Eze, Cap Ferrat, Villefranche, Nice, Antibes and the Cannes Islands with a luxury boat rental from Monaco.

The Best Beach Clubs for Boat Rental Monaco Guests

During Monaco boat rental experiences, many guests choose to visit a beach club for lunch. Of course if you select a Monaco day yacht charter with a chef, you can enjoy lunch or dinner on-board, prepare to your tastes. The best beach clubs with a tender service to bring your from your yacht or luxury boat to the venue are:

Paloma Beach – one of the most high-end beach clubs near to Monaco. Paloma Beach offers exquisite food, immaculate service and a great setting.

Anjuna Plage – based at the foot of Eze, Anjuana Plage is a fun beach club with a real party atmosphere. The food is good, but the cocktails and music are the real attraction.

Mala Plage – nestled in the picturesque bay of Saint-Laurent after Cap D’Ail. Eden Plage Mala is a really popular beach club for yacht charter guests. With a stunning view, the ambiance relaxed, and the food is top class.

Keller Plage – the most popular beach club on the Cap D’Antibes, Keller Plage is a popular choice.

La Guerite – the only restaurant on the Isles de Marguerite on the Lérins Islands. La Guerite is always in high demand. Unsurprisingly, the food is of high quality, and the setting is out of this world.

Amazing Service!!

Monaco, known for its opulent casinos, renowned Grand Prix, and high-profile events, many people associate superyachts with the lovely Principality, which is tucked between the Cote d’Azur and the Italian Riviera. Indeed, Monaco is typically one of the first places that comes to mind when we think about Mediterranean yacht charters.

That is most likely due to the fact that the second-smallest country in the world is literally and geographically centred around the magnificent Port Hercules, where the world’s most beautiful superyachts can be seen all year long. Some of these yachts are owned by inhabitants of Monaco, while others are merely visitors who stop by during the summer to have a taste of the high life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will i need a special licence to rent a yacht in monaco.

No. Most yachts come with their own expert crew, including a captain who knows the waters like the back of his hand.

I’m planning a quick celebration. How long do I get to keep the yacht?

You can have your yacht for half a day, a whole day, or even on an hourly basis with some providers. Planning around the Monaco Grand Prix or Yacht Show? It’s best to keep your yacht rental for a couple of days because, with all the festivities, time flies!

I’m known for my last-minute plans. How soon do I need to rent a yacht?

Spontaneity is the spice of life, but with yachting in Monaco, the early bird catches the worm! Try to book a few weeks in advance. Eyeing an event like the Monaco Grand Prix? You’ll want to book several weeks ahead to avoid missing the boat—literally.

I’m throwing the ultimate yacht party. Is that allowed?

Of course! Yachts and parties are like Monaco and glamour—a perfect match. Just chat with the rental company about your event needs, and they’ll help you set the stage for an unforgettable experience.

What’s all included in my Monaco yacht rental?

Think of it as an all-inclusive resort. You get the yacht, an amazing crew, and peace of mind. Just note, extra adventures like five-star catering might be additional.

What should I bring?

Just the essentials! Don’t forget your sunnies, sunscreen, and maybe a hat for that Riviera sun. Pack some seasickness remedies if you’re not a seasoned sailor! Remember, keep in touch with your rental company to sort out the specifics, and you’ll be all set for an epic Monaco yachting experience.

The French Riviera is well-known for its glamorous coastline, and it is home to some of the most exclusive yacht clubs in the world. It is also known for its beautiful beaches and stunning scenery. Monaco is the perfect base for exploring this region, as it offers easy access to both Nice and Cannes.

The Italian Riviera is less well-known but it is no less beautiful. This region is known for its dramatic coastline, its quaint villages, and its excellent sailing conditions. The city of Genoa is a great starting point for exploring this region.

  • Monaco : Of course, you can also just stay in Monaco itself and enjoy the luxury of sailing around on your own private yacht. There are plenty of marinas where you can dock your yacht, and there are plenty of things to do and see while you're there.
  • St Tropez : This coastal town on the French Riviera is the perfect place to visit on a family charter. During the day you can dock your boat and sunbathe on one of the many known beaches or visit the cobblestoned quarter of La Ponche – a once-famous fishing village. At night, roam the streets and enjoy the vibrant nightlife.

  • The Oceanographic Museum is a must-see for any maritime enthusiast. Housed in a beautiful 19th-century building, the museum showcases an impressive collection of marine life, as well as a stunning view of the Mediterranean Sea.

Renting a boat with a skipper

Looking to rent a boat in Monaco? There are a few things to consider before making your decision. One option is to charter a yacht with a skipper. This can be a great option if you're new to the area or don't feel comfortable navigating on your own. A skipper will also be able to show you the best spots to anchor and moor and can help with any problems that might arise.

Another option is to charter a bareboat. This can be a great option if you're an experienced sailor or have someone in your group who is. Bareboat charters give you the freedom to explore on your own schedule and make your own decisions about where to go and what to do.

There are pros and cons to both options, so it's important to decide what's best for you before making your reservation.

What boat should I rent?

When traveling with families, the best type of yacht to rent for your charter experience would be a catamaran. Catamarans offer a lot of stability – great for those who get seasick, a spacious living space for dinners and drinks with the family, and can be rented with the addition of a captain and crew on board.

For those with a sailing license, sailing yachts and motor yachts are great options! Enjoy fishing, diving, water skiing, and many other activities from the comfort of your yacht rental.

When is the best time to go?

There are a few things you should consider before booking your boat charter. The best time to visit Monaco for sailing is between April and October when the weather is mild and the waves are calm. Temperatures during this time range from about 50-70°F, making it comfortable for both you and your crew. If you're looking to avoid the crowds, April-May or September-October are typically quieter and can be cheaper than peak-season bookings.

The YachtCharterFleet team has experienced the F1 Monaco Grand Prix first-hand, and we are here to provide you with the ultimate guide to chartering a luxury yacht at the event.

With luxury yachts at the heart of the racing action, hiring a superyacht for the Monaco Grand Prix is the most glamorous way to experience the world's most exciting and iconic F1 fixture.

However, many people have questions about the booking process. From when to book to where to berth, this article gives a run-down of the most commonly-asked questions and answers, complete with expert advice and tips on how to get the most from your Monaco Grand Prix superyacht experience.

How do I rent a yacht at the Monaco Grand Prix?

Yachts lined up at the Monaco Grand Prix

The first thing you will need to do is find a reputable yacht charter broker , who will act as a buffer between you and the yacht owner. They will be able to give you sound advice and information and will ultimately be responsible for organizing your grand prix yacht charter, right down to the very last detail.

Booking a yacht at the Formula One fixture is a complicated process, so be sure to find yourself a broker who has undertaken the procedure before. A broker with the necessary expertise and connections will ensure a smooth and straightforward superyacht experience at the F1 Monaco Grand Prix.

When do I need to book my Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter?

You will need to book your Monaco Grand Prix yacht charter up to eight months in advance if you are looking to secure a berth in Port Hercules. Demand for these berths is extremely high, so you will need to get in touch with your charter broker well ahead of time in order to start the planning process.

How can I book a berth with trackside views?

Yachts lined up at the Monaco Grand Prix

Many luxury yachts based in Monaco hold year-round berths in premium locations that overlook the racetrack. If track views are important to you, you should try to book a yacht that has already secured a desirable trackside berth. This will remove the hassle of trying to secure one such berth yourself.

How long can I rent a yacht for at the Monaco Grand Prix?

The minimum number of days you can rent a yacht over the Monaco Grand Prix is five days and it has to be between Wednesday and Sunday. This is because practice and qualifying sessions begin on Thursday, through to the main race on Sunday. Roads open to the public on Monday.

Superyachts cannot leave the marina throughout the duration of the grand prix. But, guests can easily extend their yacht charter and explore the glittering coastlines of the French Riviera when the racing draws to a close.

What can I do if I can’t berth in Port Hercules?

View of Monaco, France

There are 700 berths in Port Hercules, and they all fill up well in advance for the Monaco Grand Prix. If you are not able to secure one of these coveted slips, don’t panic; there are other places you can berth.

Tucked around the corner from Port Hercules is Port Fontvieille. Though smaller, demand for berths here is much less fierce as you will have to take a tender across to Port Hercules to watch the on-track action. It is recommended that you book a minimum of three months in advance to secure one of the 275 berths.

Alternatively, superyachts can anchor around the Bay of Monaco and, again, take a tender in to watch the racing. Of course, you will not need to book to anchor, but your yacht will not benefit from the facilities available at the marinas. For more details, read our article:  where to berth your yacht during the Monaco Grand Prix .

Please note, if you are coming to Monaco via tender to watch the races, you will need to hold a ticket that allows access to the F1 Monaco Grand Prix or have a hospitality package secured at one of the venues surrounding the track.

How to get on board your superyacht at the Monaco Grand Prix

Can I get off my yacht to watch the races?

As the streets of Monaco make up the grand prix circuit, much of Monte Carlo is closed off during practice and race sessions. At these times, when cars are on the track, access from the land to Port Hercules and vice versa is not possible.

Therefore, those watching the race from Port Hercules will need to ensure they get on board their superyacht before restrictions fall into place. For more information, please read our article in order to find out how to board your superyacht during the Monaco Grand Prix.

How to choose the best berth for the Monaco Grand Prix

Should I consider a Monaco Grand Prix yacht hospitality package?

Revellers on board a yacht at the Monaco Grand Prix

If you do not want to charter a yacht privately, but would still like to step on board a superyacht, you can do so with the help of an F1 yacht hospitality package.

These are a cost-effective option for those who do not wish to book an entire yacht for 5 days and will entitle you access to a superyacht over the course of the races, as well as a host of other advantages including premium drinks, gourmet food and drink and live performances from international DJs. To find out more, read our guide to hospitality packages below.

Yachts routinely steal the show during the F1 grand prix weekend.

The yachts docking in the harbour for the F1 Monaco Grand Prix have turned heads - with a couple particularly impressing.

A yacht named Seven Sins caused a commotion because there is a Bugatti Chiron onboard.

The Seven Sins can be chartered for a week at a much more reasonable $300,000 but that doesn’t come with the Bugatti!

The car itself is worth around £2.5m and, now, there is one in full view in Monaco harbour during the F1.

A yacht named Evrima, owned by Ritz-Carlton, is being used by Lewis Hamilton , George Russell and Toto Wolff as part of their partnership with Mercedes .

Evrima is more of a floating luxury hotel than a boat.

Guests have voyaged around France before docking in Monaco for the coolest weekend of the year.

Rooms cost $10,000 to $100,000 for holidaymakers at this time of year.

If you want to charter Evrima, it will set you back $2.2m for a week.

It boasts 149 rooms, a private terrace for each suite, an infinity pool and even an onboard therapist.

It has direct access to the seawater, and watersports, from its deck.

The biggest yacht at the Monaco Grand Prix (so far) is actually owned by the Ritz-Carlton. • 149 Cabins • Pools, Spa & Gym • Rooms cost $10,000 to $100,000+ It's essentially a luxury cruise — you spend a few days in France and then dock in Monaco for the race. A superyacht named Faith has also docked in Monaco for the grand prix and it is known to some of F1's richest people.

The $200m yacht was previously owned by Lawrence Stroll, the current Aston Martin owner.

Stroll sold it to the billionaire father of former F1 driver Nicholas Latifi.

Faith has a helipad onboard plus a gym and a theatre.

And it's yours to rent for one week for a mere $1.5m...

A yacht named Lionheart is also turning heads in Monaco this year.

It was formerly owned by businessman Philip Green, and is valued at $150m.

The largest yacht currently in Monaco's Port Hercule is Lionheart, a superyacht built for businessman Philip Green by Benetti SpA, which cost $150 million. Most famously, when Kimi Raikkonen was forced to retire early from the 2006 Monaco Grand Prix, rather than go back to his team garage he instead walked straight to the harbour to find his yacht.

Moments later, he was spotted lounging in the sun onboard his private yacht with his friends - with the F1 race going on without him.

The most iconic viewing experiences of F1's visit to Monaco

M ONACO -- The Monaco Grand Prix is unlike any other event in the world of sport. The glamour, history and sheer absurdity of the race combine to offer an experience that sits atop the bucket list of many Formula One fans.

Despite its reputation, attending the race is not as expensive as you might think, with general admission tickets for La Rocher (the hill overlooking the final two corners) costing €199 for race day or just €75 for Friday practice.

But what if money is no object? What if you want to experience the race from the most exclusive and desirable locations possible? Well, you might find yourself at one of the places on this list -- but be warned, it mostly won't come cheap.

Watching from a yacht

Monaco's Port Hercule, skirted by the racetrack on two of its three sides, acts as a magnet for the Mediterranean's superyachts each May. Its 160,000 square metres of liquid real estate transforms into the ultimate playground for the rich and famous, making it among the most sought-after places to watch a sporting event anywhere in the world.

- Watch the Monaco Grand Prix all weekend on ESPN networks

On a race weekend, a berth in Port Hercule can cost anywhere between €8,000 and €128,000 depending on location and the size of boat, and there is a €3,000 fee just to enter the harbour. The most expensive positions offer views of the track between the Nouvelle Chicane and the Swimming Pool complex, while countless other berths will see your yacht parked up without a sightline to the circuit.

The very biggest boats have no choice but to moor on "The T" behind the Swimming Pool grandstand, with their bows pointing out to sea. In recent years, the largest yacht in the harbour has been Faith, a 316-foot leviathan worth an estimated $200 million.

According to media reports in 2020, Faith was sold by Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll to Canadian billionaire Michael Latifi, the father of former Williams racing driver Nicholas and chairman of Sofina Foods.

Details of Faith can be found online , including its seasonal charter rate of €1,600,000 per week. That money not only buys you a lot of yacht for seven days, it also comes with a list of amenities that would make a number of Monaco's five-star hotels look rather ill-equipped.

The five-storey floating palace houses a cinema, spa, swimming pool, massage room, steam room, hammam, gym and, rumour has it, a snow room. It has seven bedrooms that can sleep up to 12 guests, a VIP stateroom to entertain friends and an elevator that conveniently links its five decks.

But if you're not a multibillionaire, there are cheaper ways to get on the water over race week. A number of companies offer yacht access during the track action, with prices starting at around €850 for a Friday, including a meal on a tri-deck yacht, to €6,000 for the same experience on race day.

Overnight accommodation on a yacht during the weekend will set you back anywhere between €23,000 and €28,000, according to the prices listed by F1's famous party-throwers Amber Lounge. Once the track action is done for the day, Amber Lounge also boasts a "€1.5 million party" in the gardens of Le Meridien Hotel. A place on a shared table at the Amber Lounge party starts at €1,375, but those wanting to grab a spot close to the party's most famous attendees, including Pamela Anderson and Daniel Ricciardo , need to fork out $70,000. Amber Lounge claims that the champagne flows all night, with a nine-litre bottle available on request, which requires a crew of four people to carry it to your table and open it.

Watching from the Hotel de Paris

For a more traditional experience, the Hotel de Paris, situated at the highest point of the F1 circuit overlooking Casino Square, represents the Grande Dame of Monaco hospitality. The hotel was opened in 1864 by the Société des Bains de Mer, a state-owned development group that still owns the hotel today and is also responsible for the running of the famous Monte Carlo Casino across the square.

The modern-day hotel, which benefited from a $280 million renovation in 2019, has 207 rooms and is among the most prestigious properties in the principality. While the hotel goes to great lengths to protect the privacy of its visitors, previous guests are known to include Frank Sinatra, Michael Jordan and Lady Gaga.

Over the race weekend, the hotel insists on a four-night minimum stay with prices starting at €18,000 -- albeit not necessarily with a view of the track. With two days to go before this year's grand prix, the last rooms still available were listed at €10,500 per night (or €42,000 for the four nights).

The two largest suites, named after Princess Grace (983 square metres) and Prince Rainier III (830 square metres), are marketed on the basis of "those who have to ask can't afford," but reportedly command a nightly rate between €45,000 and €51,000 away from the race weekend. Over the Monaco Grand Prix, you can expect those prices to multiply. For your small fortune, you'll get two bedrooms, a private rooftop swimming pool and an expansive terrace with views over Monaco.

If your budget doesn't stretch to staying at the Hotel de Paris on race weekend, you can still get a taste for the hotel's hospitality at one of its three restaurants overlooking the track. The most famous of the three is Alain Ducasse's Le Louis XV, which carries three Michelin stars.

A four-course menu on the trackside terrace will set you back €500 per person on Friday, €800 per person on qualifying day and a whopping €1,800 per person on race day -- and that's before you dive into the wine list.

All the restaurants linked to the Hotel de Paris benefit from its cavernous cellar, which was carved into the bedrock under the property in 1874. The current cellar houses the finest wines known to humanity, with a remarkable stock of more than 350,000 bottles.

During World War II, part of the cellar was walled up to protect 20,000 bottles of vintage Lafite, Rothschild, Petrus and Cheval Blanc. Broken glass was scattered in the corridors leading up to the sealed compartment in the hope it would deter any would-be raiders from finding the secret stash.

When the temporary wall was removed in 1945, one of the hotel's most famous visitors, Winston Churchill, was on hand to ensure the very best bottles had survived.

Watching from terraces

As one of Europe's most desirable tax havens, Monaco has the dubious honour of being the world's most densely populated sovereign state. In order to house so many multi-millionaires in such a small amount of space, property developers have increasingly built upward to maximise returns on small plots of land, resulting in a concrete jungle built into the hillside.

That's good news for those hoping to get a good vantage point over the two-mile Monaco circuit, as a number of terraces in the highest tower blocks are available to rent over the weekend. A view from one of the larger apartment buildings overlooking the first corner starts at €650 for Friday access and rockets up to €3,500 for the entire weekend.

Views of the famous Fairmont Hairpin -- the tightest corner in F1 -- are also available from the very hotel that gives the corner its name. A suite with a balcony will set you back €3,700 for the weekend and comes with optional evening yacht parties at an additional €700 to €900 per night.

Rising above it

Believe it or not, one of the best views of Monaco on a race weekend is entirely free -- although you'll need a pair of high-powered binoculars to see the cars. Tete de Chien ("dog's head" in English) is the name given to the huge cliff face hanging above the principality and it costs precisely €0 to access.

Standing 550 metres above the principality (and across the border in France), a hike to the top of the cliff will provide spectacular views of the harbour and the possibility to make out small slithers of racetrack between the buildings. You'll likely have no idea what's going on below, but with fresh air in your lungs and a saving of several thousand Euros in your pocket, it's a small price to pay.

The most expensive crash at the Monaco Grand Prix happened off the track after a high speed incident inside the famous “billionaires row” occurred this weekend.

Footage of the crash has gone viral with a powerboat seen smashing into two other vessels before mounting a docking jetty at the iconic harbour.

The footage has spread across cyberspace on the same day local hero Charles Leclerc took pole position for Sunday night’s race with a classy drive in his Ferrari.

World champion Max Verstappen had a nervous moment when his Red Bull touched the concrete barriers during qualifying, but his contact was barely a scratch compared to the dramatic moment that occurred in the harbour.

According to rumours, the mega-yacht is the location where American driver Logan Sargeant and his family are living for the week.

Crazy boat crash rocks Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix

The footage shows two spectators at the event were lucky to escape without injury as the boat came in like a wrecking ball between a little dingy and a superyacht full of partygoers.

Debris from the collision was sent flying before the speeding boat made a miraculous stop perfectly balanced on the strip of harbour jetty.

According to spectators, there was nobody on the vessel at the time.

Footage shared on Instagram by a one account stated: “Crazy crash in Monaco today.

“Nobody was on board or hurt. VERY lucky!!!Properly wearing an engine cut off switch would have prevented this! Please wear them. Consider buying the wireless options if you don’t want to wear the lanyard.”

Jokes about the crash have flown in thick and fast, with F1 commentator Will Buxton writing: “Mate, you can’t park there”.

The operator of the boat is going to have a hefty bill for damages with the incident happening inside one of the most exclusive locations on the planet.

The Monte Carlo harbour is famously referred to as the “billionaires’ playground”. The luxury and extravagance of the scene rises significantly during race week and the costs are eye-watering even for the rich and famous.

Most yachts parked in the harbour are owned by multi-billionaires.

At least one party package to have access to a luxury yacht parked in the harbour for the full week will set you back $2.6 million.

It comes after disaster was narrowly avoided during an F2 session on Friday with a driver showing absurd reflexes to avoid a crash .

In viral footage, Formula 2 driver Isack Hadjar was seen dodging Rodin Motorsport driver Tiomo Miyata’s car after it suffered a power unit issue.

The car slowed to a crawl as he entered the tunnel on the inside line.

The 19-year-old Hadjar entered the tunnel at full speed and in the blink of an eye came dangerously close to Miyata as he came around the blind corner.

Planning and timing

Do: Book early

Don’t: Hope to plan this right now

Let’s say you decide to buy tickets and fly to your Monaco hotel tonight. Here’s the reality check: the lowest three-day tickets on resale sites as of Wednesday are north of $500, and that’s for a not-so-great vantage point. An economy-class flight from London will cost you another $500. If you’re flying from the United States, that’s over $1,000. And remember, you won’t even fly into Monaco – the nearest airport is in Nice. So, you’ll need to take the train to Monaco, where the lowest available price for a five-night stay is the Miramar at $2,802 a night.

If that’s not a problem, you’re not even reading this article anyway. For the rest of us, let’s try to get into the game early next year. That London to Nice flight could get under $150 if you book at least nine months in advance. Fly in on Tuesday or Wednesday to lock in those off-peak rates.

Grandstand tickets at Monaco will never qualify as “cheap.” Still, those general admission prices will be easier to swallow if you jump on them when tickets go on sale, usually between six and nine months before the race. A single Friday grandstand ticket is $184, while a general admission ticket on Le Rocher for Saturday and Sunday runs about $244. (Compare that to about $1,068 for a weekend grandstand ticket.)

And if you insist on staying in Monaco, say it with me: book early. But you really shouldn’t stay in Monaco. More on that in a bit. The last thing I’ll suggest in the planning phase is to go as a group. You’ll find a lot more discounts that way.

Accommodation

Do: stay outside monaco, please.

I’ll remind you again that the cheapest five-night hotel stay I could find the week of in Monaco cost $15,000. Even if you book well in advance, the Monaco GP week rates will be exorbitant whether you’re going the hotel or Airbnb/Vrbo routes. So, just … don’t do it.

Instead, stay in a nearby town. Nice is the obvious choice since you’ll be flying in there anyway. The options in Nice are abundant and affordable—I found decently rated hotels there this week in the $250 per night range. Do your research and book ahead of time, and you could lock in at an even lower rate.

Other options close to Monaco are Menton (on the east side of Monaco) and Ventimiglia (in Italy). All three of these cities are connected to Monaco by train.

Don’t: Stay in Monaco

Just in case you didn’t hear me.

Race tickets

Do: Get to know Rocher and F3

Don’t: Expect comfort

Some areas around Monaco offer free views of the track. There’s Rampe de la Major, the pedestrian walkway up to the palace. You can catch a tiny glimpse of the cars as they scream by Avenue de la Costa. But if you’re looking for budget ticket options, your best bet is obviously general admission tickets. And you’d be surprised at how good the general admission experience can get at Monaco.

The GP offers two general admission areas. The first is the Z1 area, beside the straight between Nouvelle Chicane and Tabac. This gives you a good view of the harbor and the cars. You could do a lot worse than GA that’s this trackside.

The other is Le Rocher, a steep hill between Rascasse and the final corner. This area was actually free until the 1990s.

Le Rocher is a little like the hill at Turn 1 at Circuit of the Americas in that it’s first-come-first-serve regarding seating. If you snag a good spot, the views are incredible . You see the cars emerging from the swimming pool chicane (Turn 15) and catch them again as they peel out of Rascasse and the final corner into the main straight and start-finish line. The atmosphere is usually cheery up here, too. Probably because you’re all saving money with a great view of a beautiful city after reading this remarkable article, but that’s just speculation on my part.

The bad news is that Le Rocher is a hill. You will either stand up or sit on grass and rocks for two hours, not counting the time you’ll spend if you show up early enough to get a good view. A tree may block your view, or a lack of trees may mean no shade from the sun. There are a few paths, but it might be a challenging place for those with mobility issues. And the crowds fill the place to the brim. If you’re lucky enough to snag a ticket (they go fast), I hope you like being close to hundreds of strangers!

Get there early (some people camp overnight), bring your own food and chair/mat, and be prepared for whatever weather is in the forecast.

It’s also worth noting that three-day passes don’t have to be your route. You’re in Monaco, after all. You can still say you went to the Monaco Grand Prix if you only bought a single-day ticket to Friday practices or Saturday qualifying. Those tickets are usually much cheaper, and you can spend the rest of the weekend enjoying the city.

Transportation

Do: Take the train or walk

Don’t: Rent a car

Monaco is a small city and becomes a nightmare to park in during the grand prix weekend. Just avoid cars altogether — even the prices to park or rideshare will be huge.

Luckily, each city we suggested staying in offers train transportation to Monaco. Nice is 30 minutes away, Menton is 17 minutes away, and Ventimiglia is about 40 minutes away. Train tickets are relatively inexpensive, though it’s worth noting that you won’t be the only person at the race with this idea. The trains arriving and leaving the city will be packed, so be prepared to get to know your fellow motorsports fans. But there’s no better tip I can give you to save money on transportation around the Monaco GP.

Once you’re in the city, most of the sightseeing you want to do is within walking distance or minutes away via a city shuttle. Save some money and take advantage of this city’s excellent public transport.

Food and Drink

Do: Pack a lunch

Don’t: Try to dine in the city

This will shock you, but Monaco restaurants can be pretty pricey. Grab breakfast or dinner outside the city before trekking in for the racing. But if you plan on eating in Monaco proper, you’ll want to do your research first. Reasonably priced places to eat lunch can be found (Valentin in Monte Carlo comes to mind), but these places are usually filled to the brim during race week. Rule Princess Caroline is a popular spot with merch and cafes, and you can even watch a little bit of the racing from there.

There’s a fun perk to being a budget-conscious general admission fan, though. Near Le Rocher, there’s a place called Le Marché de la Condamine—an indoor food hall with many street food options, such as sandwiches, fresh pasta, and pizza.

You can (and should) also bring food to Le Rocher. Spend your first day in the area at a local food mart and prepare a few lunches and snacks for your time watching from the hillside.

Do Free Things

You don’t need a ticket to see the racing. If you don’t snag a ticket, try walking around town looking for small groups of spectators – they probably found a view of the track.

  • One such view I’ve seen a few fans mention is at the top of some steps that lead from the Avenue de la Costa to the Avenue de Suisse. At the top, there’s a gap between buildings that provides a far-off view of the swimming pool chicane.
  • I also have to mention the free fan zone at Place d’Armes. It has a huge TV screen and is near enough to the track that you’ll hear the roaring F1 engines.
  • Outside of the racing, the city has plenty of free attractions. The Prince’s Palace, Saint Nicholas Cathedral, and Casino Square make good leisurely cultural strolls. Monaco also has lovely places to spend outdoors time, like the Japanese Garden and Larvotto Beach.
  • You can also look at the Casino de Monte-Carlo. I can’t recommend you pay to go into a casino in a post about saving money in Monaco.

Ultimately, the key to watching your wallet at the Monaco GP is treating the race like a part of your trip instead of The Thing. It’s changing your mindset from “How close can I get to the garages?” to enjoying the atmosphere of one of Europe’s most unique cities. It’s working well ahead of your time at the track. And it’s not staying in Monaco.

This new company is offering bumper boat rentals on the Milwaukee River

can you rent a yacht in monaco

Summer is almost here, and the Milwaukee River is already welcoming paddleboards, kayaks and pontoons.

And this year, another type of watercraft will be available for rentals. Cream City Boats , a new company founded by lifelong Milwaukee resident Matt Weber, rents out single-person, saucer-shaped electric "party boats." They look and function similarly to amusement park bumper boats but can't be used as aggressively.

"You can do a light tap with your friends, but you're not ramming and smashing into each other," Weber said. Weber was also the man behind the river's Kanaloa Tiki Lounge party pontoon , which he sold a few years ago, though it still operates today.

Weber's new electric boats launch from Schlitz Park. Each boat features a chair atop the circular base and a throttle that functions as a steering handle. "They turn on a dime. You can spin them in complete circles," he said.

Cream City Boats has operated since the beginning of May. Only about 10 people have rented so far, but more are booked in advance for later this summer. The first customers have enjoyed "doing doughnuts" while spinning in circles in the boats, which go about 5 mph, and seeing the river scenery from a new perspective, Weber said.

"Everybody that's been on them has loved it," he continued. "They're smiling, they're laughing, they're happy to tell their friends about it. It's been great so far; it's been a very warm welcome."

Each boat is equipped with a dry box to store your phone and other valuables. You can rent a cooler for snacks or a waterproof Bluetooth speaker for an additional $10 each.

But, if you're considering enjoying a beer while floating down the river, you'll need to think again. Alcohol is forbidden on the boats. However, with each rental, you receive a $2 off coupon for a beer at the Tap Yard in Schlitz Park once you get back from the river.

Rentals are available only to adults 18 and older. Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989, must complete a boater safety course before renting. You can obtain a lifetime boater's safety license here: www.boaterexam.com/usa/wisconsin/  or a temporary boat rental license here: www.boat-ed.com/wisconsinrental/ .

How to rent bumper boats from Cream City Boats

Rentals are available Thursday through Sunday all summer long until the end of September, whenever the weather is cooperating. Currently, you can rent between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., though hours may be extended as the summer days get longer, Weber said.

Rentals are $75 per boat for 90 minutes, and each boat has a 90-minute timer to make sure you come back on time. For safety purposes, you must rent at least two boats at a time. According to the website, a $500 security deposit is required for all rentals.

Cream City Boats has 10 boats available in total; if you rent all 10, one is free.

Elephant Butte Lake visitor guide: when to visit, where to fish, camp and more

can you rent a yacht in monaco

ELEPHANT BUTTE, N.M. — With a little imagination, the flat-topped butte protruding from the dammed waters of the Rio Grande in Sierra County, is said to resemble an elephant.

Resemblant or not, Elephant Butte is iconic, the namesake of a town, dam and lake — "the largest body of water within 500 miles," said Chris Bolen, the superintendent of Elephant Butte State Park.

Two hours from both El Paso and Albuquerque, the state park offers year-round boating, swimming, fishing, hunting, hiking and more to outdoor enthusiasts. But increasingly hot and dry summers are posing challenges that officials at the state park and dam are learning to deal with.

Here's everything you need to know about visiting Elephant Butte Lake — from where to rent a pontoon boat and where you can camp to when water levels will be the highest.

When is the best time of year to visit Elephant Butte?

Elephant Butte Lake is north of Truth or Consequences, just off Interstate 25. It is easily accessible from both El Paso and Albuquerque but draws visitors from all over the region and world.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The day-use fee is $5, and an annual day-use pass is $40 for all New Mexico state parks.

On weekends, especially during the summer peak season, the park is packed with visitors. Boat rentals and campsites may be sold out.

Labor Day weekend in 2023, the park hosted 26,019 visitors. On other holiday weekends like Memorial Day and July 4, visitors have historically reached 100,000 on each day. Yearly visitation has at times reached one million, Bolen added.

Regulars like John and Shelley Davis from Rio Rancho have been coming for most of their lives and know to come on weekdays to avoid crowds.

"Today, they have the lake basically to themselves," said Bolen, watching the couple smoothly launch a pontoon boat into the lake on the Wednesday after Labor Day. "They can get out there and probably not see another boat."

Elephant Butte water level

Much of the activity at Elephant Butte State Park, including boating, where you can drive and which marinas are operational, depends on the lake's water levels.

"Everybody says, 'What's the lake level?' It's always relative, every time you see it," Bolen explained.

The lake is manmade by a dam across the Rio Grande, completed in 1916. The Bureau of Reclamation uses it to regulate water dispersal for irrigation.

To counteract dry summer months, the dam releases certain amounts of water between May and October. The water then enters Caballo Lake — another dam-formed lake and state park 18 miles south of Elephant Butte — and is then directed for irrigation in New Mexico.

The Rio Grande is fed by snowmelt at its source in the Rocky Mountains and rainfall from the summer monsoon season. But with drier summers, delayed monsoons and intense heat, lake levels are scraping lower and lower.

During summer 2022, water levels in the lake reached 3% capacity — the lowest Bolen had ever seen in his 24-year career at Elephant Butte. "But a really great monsoon season and a really great run-off" helped bring the lake back to more manageable levels, Bolen said.

As of May 23, water levels were hovering around 23% full. Exactly one year before, it was around 26%.

Water data in the Elephant Butte Lake is publicly available online .

Within the state park, "we have to plan for the water level," he continued, indicating a chart hanging on his wall with predictions of water release rates, river flow and lake levels from the Bureau of Reclamation. "We have to make sure our buoys are in place, the ramps are good to go and we can move our docks up and down," Bolen said.

Driving through the park, Bolen pointed out many signs of historic high-water levels, like the white bathtub ring around the lakeshore, mesquite trees among smaller desert shrubs and one-time waterfront houses that have since become just beachfront property.

There is also evidence of past low-water events, like a paved road now crumbling into the lake. "They thought the water was going to be low for so long, they built some roads," Bolen explained.

"It gets interesting when it rains hard," Bolen said. Lake levels rise dramatically, roads wash out and sand, silt and mud move freely.

With that wisdom, Bolen now is intent on building manageable infrastructure like new bridges and culverts that won't be washed away by fluctuating water levels. "We don't want to build anything beneath the high-water mark, especially anything permanent," he said.

All these calculations and preparations to keep the park running and accessible for hundreds of thousands amount to a daunting task. But for Bolen, "it's just part of the job."

Camping at Elephant Butte

Campers have a wide array of options at Elephant Butte — and the unique freedom to park RVs as close to the water as possible.

"Drive down here, find your little spot at the beach and go for it," Bolen said, driving past a pristine, empty stretch of lakefront beach.

There are also more traditional campsites that range in price from $8-18 a night.

While some sites have plug-ins and hook-ups for RVs, providing electricity and water (but no sewer service), sites without electricity still offer much. At sheltered sites along Ridge Road, overlooking the lake from the west, "you get your shade, you get your picnic table, you get your fire ring and you get a heck of a view in the morning.

Sites can be booked through reserveamerica.com .

Can you visit Elephant Butte in the winter?

There is no off-season at Elephant Butte. "We just call it the slow season, and that's the wintertime," Bolen said. "The water temperature goes down, and the fish aren't as active."

But winter at Elephant Butte appeals to a different type of visitor. Birders come out to see migratory waterfowl — bald eagles, white pelicans from the Great Lakes, ducks and Canadian geese — that move to New Mexico for the winter.

Elephant Butte also has snowbirds of a different feather — retirees and campers from out of state who spend their winters happily in the warmth of the desert. Some services in the park and nearby towns may be closed or operate with limited capacity in the winter.

Marinas at Elephant Butte

Boaters can store their boats at two marinas on Elephant Butte Lake, both operated by private concessioners.

The Dam Site Marina is the largest and southernmost marina on the lake, in part of the lake owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. It is managed by the Dam Site Historic District.

Marina Del Sur is centrally located by the main entrance to the state park.

Sports Adventure , a marina at Long Point, is closed indefinitely due to low water levels in the lake. After historically low lake levels last year, "this year they couldn't afford to … get it up and running without some certainty if the water is going to be there," Bolen said.

Both functional marinas offer covered and uncovered slips of varying sizes, as well as jet ski ports.

Boat rentals at Elephant Butte

If you don't own a boat, rentals at Elephant Butte State Park are available at the two open marinas, at select other locations across the park and in nearby Truth or Consequences.

You must be 21 with a valid driver's license to rent a motorboat, although kayaks and stand-up paddleboards are also available.

Boat rentals of all kinds are extremely popular. "It's not unusual for us to sell out on the weekends," said Bolen.

The Dam Site Marina has house-boat slips, regular boat slips, a store and kayak and stand-up paddleboard rentals.

Marina Del Sur has boat slips and also offers a fleet of pontoon boats and kayaks for rental. The baseline option at Marina Del Sur is $300 for a 12-person pontoon boat for a minimum of 3 hours on the lake.

Within the park, a concessioner also operates a jet ski rental at Hot Springs Landing.

Boating rules in Elephant Butte Lake

"Boats break down. It's just inevitable," Bolen said. "If your boat hasn't broken down, you haven't been doing it long enough."

Park rangers are on alert to help rescue boaters and tow boats to shore. But the burden also falls on the boater to be prepared.

"Anyone born after Jan. 1, 1989, must complete a New Mexico-approved boater education class in order to operate a power boat in New Mexico," Bolen said. "Those are offered free of charge at any of our lake parks, also in Albuquerque and online." (Those born before Jan. 1, 1989, are grandfathered in and are not required to take the boater education class.)

Elephant Butte State Park offers free boating safety courses one Saturday each month at the Richard Cooper Boat Safety Training Center near the main entrance gate on Highway 195. "It's like a driver's-ed class for boats," Bolen said.

Boaters who are renting from one of the park's marinas are exempt from these in-depth, eight-hour courses. "The marina is going to give you a quick, down and dirty safety course, give you information on boating safety and then turn you loose," Bolen added.

Vessels are also inspected for aquatic invasive species upon entrance to the park. If a boat has standing water from another lake or species like zebra mussels growing on it, park staff will treat the boat to reduce the risk of speaking invasive species.

Facts about Elephant Butte fishing and hunting

Aboard your boat or standing on the shore, fishing is allowed anywhere on the lake except the marinas and the boat docks with a New Mexico fishing license, which can be purchased online or in person.

Fishers can eat what they catch and cook their catches on the grills at campsites. There are no health concerns about fish from the lake, Bolen said.

Elephant Butte Lake boasts the New Mexico state record for green sunfish, striped bass and longear sunfish.

Beyond record breakers, the lake is rife with many types of fish , including "black, white, and striped bass, as well as crappie and bluegill."

"I've seen kids, just dinking around, pull in beautiful black bass that some of these tournament fishermen would give their left knee for," Bolen said.

The portions of the park where hunting is allowed vary by year, but the northern and easternmost edges of the lake and shore typically compose the designated hunting area. With a valid state license , hunters can pursue mule deer and waterfowl like ducks.

How to swim and hike in Elephant Butte State Park

"We do not have a designated swimming area," said Bolen. "You can swim anywhere at your own risk."

For hiking, the park hosts a 20-mile West Lakeshore Trail from the city limits of Elephant Butte to the Monticello campground along the northern shore of the lake. A map of the trail, which features benches, signposts and some steep sections, is available on the state park website .

Bolen noted that this stretch will hopefully one day link with the Rio Grande Trail , a proposed trail along the length of the river, from Colorado through all of New Mexico, ending in El Paso.
