12 Toronto Waterfront Wedding Venues You Need to See

From west end ballrooms to an Island yacht club, Toronto’s waterfront is booming with wedding venues.

Artscape Gibraltar Point / Sara Monika Photo

Want to say your “I dos” while looking out onto Lake Ontario? Well, good news, you can totally make it happen without getting a city permit to use a beach or park. That’s right, Toronto has a roster of stunning event venues that sit right on the water. If you want to have your dream beach wedding without any fuss or muss, these are the wedding venues you should add to your scouting list.

Here are a dozen waterfront weddings venues in Toronto.

Hotel x toronto (111 princes' boulevard).

Let's kick things off with a relatively new lakefront wedding venue near Ontario Place—the modern and chic Hotel X Toronto.  It offers a variety of luxurious event spaces with views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline ranging from an upscale rooftop lounge to traditional ballrooms. With many unique indoor and outdoor spaces (including gardens) to choose from, they can accommodate anywhere from 50 to 400 guests, so it's definitely worth a visit.

Hotel X Toronto

Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex (25 British Columbia Rd.)

If you're looking for a waterfront venue that's got more of an old-school vibe, then the legendary  Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex on the CNE grounds should be on your scouting list. Built in 1926, this large building has elegant banquet halls decorated in a classic style with1900s charm and views of the lake. They have many in-house services including event planning, rentals, decor and even floral arrangements. Their capacity is 100 to 2000.

Liberty Grand Entertainment Complex

Palais Royale (1601 Lakeshore Boulevard)

Palais Royale is probably Toronto’s most famous waterfront venue, and for good reason. It gives off some serious Great Gatsby vibes thanks to its art deco flourishes and has played host to greats like Duke Ellington and Count Basie. The space is perfect for guest lists of any size, from intimate gatherings of 25 to grand 800-person receptions. Bonus: it’s perched at the foot of Roncesvalles Avenue , a street where you can find all your wedding necessities, from your flowers to your rehearsal dinner location.

Palais Royale

Sunnyside Pavilion (1755 Lakeshore Boulevard)

Walk west of Palais Royale and you’ll find another wedding-worthy beachfront venue,  Sunnyside Pavilion . This spot has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a changing facility in 1922 - and I mean a looong way. It’s now a full-fledged event venue, equipped with catering, consultation services and, of course, a killer backdrop for your big day (from ornate archways to gardens, it has it all). Its capacity is 70 to 90 people, so don’t go overboard with your guest list.

Sunnyside Pavilion

The Boulevard Club (1491 Lakeshore Boulevard)

This swanky private members club is another tried and true west end option overlooking the water.  The Boulevard Club features chandeliers, french doors and sleek wooden accents, ideal for couples who are in the market for something with a classic, old-timey feel. Its team can take care of everything from catering to breakdown, so you won’t have anything to worry about on your big day. Its largest space, the ballroom, has a capacity of 200 (or 250 without a dance floor).

The Boulevard Club

Artscape Gibraltar Point (443 Lakeshore Avenue)

When you think of the waterfront, the Island is probably one of the first things that come to your mind. While the sands of Hanlan’s Point are probably your go-to spot, you’ll have to expand your horizons to find that wedding-worthy location. We suggest making  Artscape Gibraltar Point your first stop. It has options available for those who want to get hitched on the sandy shores with the waves crashing in the background, on the lawn surrounded by trees and indoors (a triple threat!). Its capacity indoors is 270, but it can accommodate up to 2000 outdoors.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club (2 Chippewa Avenue)

Unfortunately, you probably won’t be receiving a yacht as a wedding gift, however, you can surround yourself with them on your big day. The Royal Canadian Yacht Club ’s Island Clubhouse is a truly unique venue that caters to Toronto’s aquaphiles. Instead of crystal chandeliers and archways, you’ll find maritime murals, sky blue walls and nautical flourishes. You’ll also be treated to amazing views of the Lake and the city skyline - AKA the perfect backdrops for your wedding photos. The capacity is 250.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club

Island Yacht Club (539 Queens Quay West)

For a more modern and relaxed vibe for your nautical wedding  that's only a 15-minute private boat ride from the city, check out the Island Yacht Club . You can host up to 170 guests on the 18-acre private property near Toronto Harbour. They can provide everything from a bridal suite to event rentals so there's no need to transport lots of supplies to the island.

Island Yacht Club

Boxcar Social Harbourfront (235 Queens Quay West)

Boxcar Social , one of Toronto’s most beloved coffee joints/watering holes, has a Harbourfront location right near the foot of Lower Simcoe. The space has an industrial-chic feel, outfitted with wooden bars and stools, exposed ventilation ducts and, of course, an impressive patio. It can accommodate about 100 guests.

Boxcar Social Harbourfront

Westin Harbour Castle (1 Harbour Square)

If a hotel wedding is more your thing, try the Westin Harbour Castle . It’s located just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and offers amazing views of the water. The hotel is equipped with an array of ballrooms, intimate party rooms and outdoor spaces, all of which can be tailored to suit your wedding. Bonus: you can reserve  blocks of rooms for your out-of-towners right in the hotel. Indoors it can accommodate up to 2000 people, so you can think big when crafting your guest list.

The Westin Harbour Castle

Against The Grain (25 Dockside Drive)

Against The Grain is another stellar centrally located venue. The restaurant sits near the bottom of Lower Jarvis Street, making it a pretty accessible option. The tavern is decorated with modern furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows that fill it with natural light during the daytime (great for capturing your candids) and has a capacity of 150. For events, the space can be combined with the Corus Atrium with a capacity of 250 for a seated meal or 400 for a cocktail reception. For a smaller guest list of 60 to 80 seated or up to 120 for a cocktail reception, you can book the 8th floor in the Corus Entertainment Building (which shares the same address).

Against The Grain

The Guild Inn Estate (201 Guildwood Parkway)

Head to Scarborough and you'll find a versatile waterfront venue - The Guild Inn Estate . What was once the modest, two-storey Bickford House (built in 1914) is now an event oasis, with sweeping grounds and amenities like valet parking, in-house catering and complimentary service staff. It has both indoor and outdoor options, to choose from and a capacity of 1000.

The breeze blowing in from Lake Ontario swirled around them, blowing Megan’s long dark hair about. Her long ivory vail flowed behind her as she made her way to her soon-to-be-husband, James. They were standing in front of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club , the venue for their big day, which overlooked Toronto’s skyline across the tranquil waters of Lake Ontario.

Her eyes were bright and her smile was wide as she made her way to James. His back was turned to her, anxiously awaiting the time to turn around and see his gorgeous bride face to face. Megan reached for his shoulder and turned him toward her. His smile was radiant, and his eyes were full of love and admiration for his Megan. Moments later the two would officially become man and wife, and smile even brighter.

Early that morning Megan and her six bridesmaids met at 150 Cherry Street, then enjoyed a boat ride across the lake to the RCYC, where they prepared for the day. While they got their makeup and hair done they relaxed and enjoyed a light brunch and champagne. Rain drizzled down outside most of the morning, but that didn’t affect the mood at all. The girls laughed and reminisced on times past, as they celebrated one of their dearest friends. After hair and makeup was done, Megan was excited to put on her wedding dress. The gorgeous A-line gown had a sweet-heart neckline, detailed with ornate beads and shiny sequins. She looked absolutely stunning and radiated elegance and class.

Across Lake Ontario, James and his groomsmen hung out and got ready for the day. James baked his groomsmen cookies, which they all enjoyed, and delightfully sent photos to Megan his bride. James and his good friends had a ball, laughing and enjoying one another’s company. Soon it would be time to board their boat for the RCYC. James was one step closer to forever with his love, Megan.

The rain subsided and the sun desperately tried to peak out from behind the rain clouds, just as Megan and James shared an intimate and sweet moment during their first look. In a short time they would become one, and vow their lives to one another at their precious ceremony.

The calming sound of a string quartet filled the air. Though heavy clouds hung from the sky, there was joyful anticipation in the air. The soft melody orchestrated each step the bride took toward her soulmate, best friend and soon-to-be-husband. As she moved her blue peep-toe heels peeked from beneath her gown. With her father by her side, Megan confidently strode past 100 of her seated wedding guests, confidently and excitedly making her way to her James, who was standing by the officiant and his six groomsmen and Megan’s six bridesmaids. Sharply dressed in a navy suit, the white polka dots on his tie matched his white boutonniere.

Megan’s steps in Badgley Mischka shoes corresponded with the flow of the string quartet’s elegant movement. Megan’s long brown hair was curled and bounced with ever step, her long ivory vail elegantly flowed down the back of her long Hayley Paige wedding gown. They held hands during their sweet ceremony was filled promises of a forever love, with and hopeful dreams for their future together. The two sealed the deal with their first kiss as man and wife, and joyfully exited while their guests cheered. They enjoyed a few moments alone, and soaked in the events that had transpired so far that day.

Guests made their way to the reception in the ballroom at the RCYC, which was founded in 1852 and holds rich historical significance in Toronto, and is a very romantic setting for a late summer wedding. Round tables were scattered around the large room which was painted light-blue, and had nautical accents throughout. The table linens were ivory, which matched the white roses and hydrangeas that made up the tall candelabra centrepieces candelabra centrepieces courtesy of FOS Decor Center .

The RCYC served a decadent hors d’oeuvres and cocktails while guests mingled throughout the room. Megan and James visited with good friends and family, and enjoyed the romantic and intimate ambiance of the room. Everyone was directed to find their seats for a sit-down dinner, which was served by the venue.

Parents and good friends of the newlyweds gave speeches toasting memories, the future and the happy couple. The room was filled with joyous laughter and a few tears shed by the bride herself. Megan and James made their way to the lovely wedding cake by The Wedding Cake Shoppe , which sat in a corner of the room and was adorned with beautiful light-pink flowers and icing. The couple overflowed with delight and glee as they laughed together, in unison with their guests.

The evening was coming to an end as Megan’s beaded gown twinkled in the light as she and her love enjoyed their first dance as man and wife. James tightly embraced his new bride, as they both cherished each second of their beautiful wedding day. A day we are honored and blessed to have been a part of. Guests continued to celebrate the union of these two precious people. Cheers to Megan and James. May you have a wonderful life together!

Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC) Wedding | Ashley & Bryant

Elegance and romance filled the air on this perfect summer day as Ashley and Bryant set their marriage a sail at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club — a quaint yet enchanting venue located on the shores of Toronto Island. Blush pink, ivory, and gold tones were complimented by the glimmer of the late afternoon sun, as the reception fell on a breezy summer evening decorated by a sparkle of the Toronto skyline.

I had the pleasure of photographing the celebration of love shared between Ashley and Bryant, which radiated through every smile that was captured between the beautiful couple and all of the guests present.

This RCYC Wedding was recently featured in Weddingbells Magazine Fall/Winter 2016 issue.

Royal Canadian Yacht Club Wedding

How jackie and james met.

Jackie and James met while on vacation in Mexico. She was there with her sister and he was there for a bachelor party. They met at the resort and ended up spending most of their time together. It wasn’t long before James and Jackie knew they had a special connection. Before James returned home to Edmonton, he gave Jackie his business card with the hope that they’d keep in touch. Once Jackie returned to Toronto she reached out to him right away. After many phone calls, messages, and Skype sessions,  Jackie flew to see James in Edmonton. That’s how their long-distance relationship started. From then on, they spent their summers together in Edmonton and went on romantic vacations abroad. Eventually James proposed to Jackie in Toronto.

They met by the water so it seemed fitting that their wedding took place on Toronto Island at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club. I grew up in Edmonton and I live in Toronto now, so their story really caught my heart.

Toronto-wedding-photographer-RCYC-wedding

Jackie and James’ nautical themed wedding at RCYC

Jackie started the wedding day getting ready in her childhood home along with her bridesmaids, who wore pastel blue coloured dresses. Jackie wore a form-fitting wedding dress, matching pastel blue nails, and her late mother’s wedding ring. Later that afternoon, we took the ferry to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club (RCYC). James was also on the same ferry, but thankfully we managed to keep them apart before the first look. Once we arrived at the RCYC, I photographed a first look between Jackie and James under a willow tree. It was a really sweet first look filled with happiness. Afterwards, we took portraits with the bridal party around the island. The ceremony was originally meant to be outside, but the skies turned grey so the ceremony was moved inside.

Summer wedding at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club

At the ceremony, there were framed photos of each set of parents on their respective wedding days. During the ceremony, Jackie and James read vows they wrote for each other. Their guests and their bridesmaids teared up listening to them. The ceremony was a blend of Jewish and western traditions. At the end of the ceremony when James broke the glass under his foot, the whole room shouted a cheery “Mazel tov!” and a flurry of bubbles followed. It was the perfect ending to a meaningful ceremony.

Afterwards at the reception, the couple mingled with their guests throughout dinner. During sunset, I stole them for a few portraits on the pier. I always love taking sunset photos with my couples. I like the quiet alone time it gives them to relax and be cozy together. Jackie and James snuggled and practised their dance moves on the pier before heading back inside.

Up next were speeches from the parents and bridal party. Man oh man, were the speeches good! The speeches had everyone tearing up with emotion or howling in laughter. Afterwards, Jackie and James opened up the dance floor with their first dance to the classic song “Can’t take my eyes off of you” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. When it came time for the horah, I could tell from the couple’s reactions that they were pretty nervous to sit in a chair way above guests’ heads, but once they were up in the air they had a great time. Jackie and James’ wedding at the RCYC was one of my favourite summer weddings. I’m so thankful to have been a part of their special day.

Artistic Wedding Photography Bride and Groom Portrait

Marissa + Oppi Tie the Knot, captured by  MIMMO & CO

From the bride ... Our wedding planner , Machel Reeves, helped us pick the Royal Canadian Yacht Club for our reception. It was an amazing wedding venue – providing a sublime backdrop for our ‘Toronto Island’ getaway.

Our favorite moment of the day was the conclusion of the “laava,” or walk around the Guru Granth Sahib, which describes the soul’s journey to unite with the infinite. This is when the partners’ souls are united according to the Sikh faith, and we were officially married – one spirit in two bodies.

My favorite wedding detail? The photos ! The images by MIMMO & CO are evidence of the moments that we shared, but also of moments that we might have otherwise missed – friends and family enjoying the day and all of the beautiful moments we will cherish forever.

For the groom , the best part was definitely the music, which highlighted bringing together our Punjabi, Caribbean and Canadian backgrounds.

Whether you are an experienced sailor or looking to learn the ropes, our Club offers camaraderie on and off the water.
