7 Super-Fast RC Catamaran Boats

7 Super-Fast RC Catamaran Boats

Joseph Flynt

Catamarans—cats for short—are the type of boat you either love or have little interest in. This guide is for the former. An RC catamaran is a multihulled vessel with dual parallel hulls. With sailing cats, there are at least two beams that connect the hulls, with a mast on one of them. The absence of a keel lets the boats sail or race in shallow waters. That means they get to go where other models can’t.

The Catamaran’s unique design is not only for riding the shallows. It also makes the boats a lot wider, more stable, and faster than conventional monohull crafts.

  • Radio Controlled Catamarans

R/C catamarans are miniature versions of real boats. Most models are ultra-fast speedboats that achieve plane quicker than other vessel types. Hobbyists love to race them because of their pace on the water and aggressive turning ability. The downside to cats is that they’re not at home on choppier waters, and are more vulnerable to turnovers. Consider an RC cat for smooth water, sporty fun.

  • RC Catamaran Buying Considerations

The price between models can vary a lot, so set a maximum budget before you do anything. Knowing your budget narrows down the search to only those within your price range.

Here’s a quick breakdown of buying considerations for those new to RC.

  • Gas vs. electric
  • Motor choices
  • Running time
  • Charging time
  • Useful features
  • Gas Vs. Electric Power

Opt for an electric cat if you’re new to the world of RC boats. They’re cleaner, easier to maintain and still have plenty of oomph on the water. Gas-powered cats are for experienced hobbyists. They’re for people who love the realistic experience provided by liquid fuels. But they’re also dirtier, need periodic oil changes, engine tune-ups, and regular maintenance.

  • Speed Considerations

Speed is half the fun, but the faster the boat, the more space and skills one needs to control it. Some models have variable speeds, whereas others are plain fast from the off. Think about where you intend to use the boat. High speed is not your friend with small bodies of water such as pools and tiny ponds. Novice users should opt for a slower cat or one with variable speeds and precise throttle manipulation.

  • Motor Choices

Electric-powered catamarans use brushed or brushless motors. The brushed options are the cheapest of the two. They are also slower and have a shorter life expectancy than their brushless counterparts. Brushless is the best option because they pack more power, are quieter, and require no maintenance. Most agree that the higher cost of a brushless power system is justifiable.

  • Running & Charging Times

The time an RC cat runs on a single charge depends on how hard you push it and the battery used. Running times vary between models and can range from single digits to 30+ minutes. There are two other things to consider here. One is the charging time and the other is the cost of extra batteries. I include the battery and charging times in each of the reviews.

  • Control Range

The control range is how far the boat can travel from its transmitter. Make sure the distance is acceptable for your needs. Likewise, it’s not necessary to have a range that goes further than the line of sight (LOS). If that happens, and you lose power or the signal, you may not be able to recover the boat. Some models come with low-battery and low-signal warning indicators.

The range also depends on the radio system used and other factors. The control distance is acceptable with all the models featured in this review guide.

  • Useful Features

Make a list of what features are important to you. Consider the boat’s materials, especially its hull. Others might be a breakaway rudder system, low battery protection, and a self-righting function. Make a note of the dimensions too. Beginners often buy a model that’s either smaller or bigger than they thought. Also, heed the manufacturer’s recommended age if you’re buy the boat as a surprise gift.

  • About My ‘RC Catamaran’ Guide

The purpose of this simple guide is to put all the jumbled seller’s spiel into plain English. These short reviews highlight the boats good and not so good features—if any. There’s also a tech specs column that gives details of the specifics mentioned above.

The 7 RC catamarans below are the result of personal research. I also took the views of industry experts into consideration, along with user feedback. The first three are the Editor’s choice for Best Budget, Best Value, and the Top Pick. The cats below those are in price order for convenience.

  • RC Catamarans Comparison Table
  • 1. Pro Boat 17” Miss Geico RC Cat | Best Budget

Pro Boat 17” Miss Geico RC Cat

Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5

Pro Boat‘s 7” Miss Geico is a fun RC catamaran. It’s a fully ready to run (RTR) model that comes complete with a battery and wall charger. It’s a fun boat and an excellent first-time cat.

  • Best feature 1: Durable blow-molded ABS hull
  • Best feature 2: Dynamite 380-size motor
  • Plus points: RTR model, excellent first-time cat, streamlined design, breakaway rudder,
  • Minus points: Slow for a cat, short run time
  • Miss Geico RC Catamaran Highlights

The Miss Geico RC cat has a durable, rigid, impact-resistant ABS hull. A powerful 380 motor system provides the boat with plenty of torque for a model in its class. Consider this vessel as a first catamaran, especially if it’s a gift for younger children. It makes an excellent trainer craft with its precise throttle manipulation and easy-to-use controls.

The streamlined design and bright yellow color offer more than just an eye-catching appeal. It also gives the Miss Geico high visibility on the water. Another feature worth a mention is the breakaway rudder system. That helps to protect the drivetrain should the boat hit ground.

  • The Not So Good

At 12–15 mph, the 17” Miss Geico is not a super-fast catamaran, but then it doesn’t claim to be. The run time with the supplied battery only lasts about 10–15 minutes at best. That’s quite typical for this category, but disappointing nonetheless.

  • 2. Aquacraft Wildcat EP Catamaran | Best Value

Aquacraft Wildcat EP Catamaran

Editor’s Rating: 4.8/5

The Best Value pick goes to Aquacraft’s Wildcat EP brushless catamaran. This boat is a step up from the beginner-friendly model above. Let’s check out some of its best features.

  • Best feature 1: Molded ABS hull w/ transom drain plug
  • Best feature 2: Powerful 35-36-1800Kv brushless outrunner motor
  • Plus points: Tactic Tx, striking graphics, breakaway rudder, failsafe features, boat stand
  • Minus points: Too fast for beginners, no battery included
  • Wildcat EP Catamaran Highlights

The Aquacraft Wildcat EP catamaran is everything you’d expect from a model in its category. The boat has striking graphics and a beautiful streamlined molded ABS hull complete with a transom drain plug. A powerful brushless 35-36-1800Kv outrunner motor propels this cat to speeds exceeding 40 mph (64 km/h). Control is easy and interference-free thanks to the TTX300 SLT Tactic radio system.

  • Safe & Secure

There are plenty of safety and protection features with the Wildcat EP Catamaran, namely:

  • Water-cooled brushless controller w/ low-voltage cutoff
  • Break-away rudder system
  • Steering & throttle reverse/trims
  • Two-blade fiber-reinforced plastic propeller

Adrenaline fans won’t be disappointed with the speed and handling of this cat. It’s super stable on the water even when it’s choppy. It may fall slightly short for expert users, but it’s an excellent second boat for those at the intermediate level. There’s also a stand for safe storing out of the water.

The Wildcat EP catamaran may temp beginners though it’s too fast for novice users. It has superb handling, but driving at high speeds still takes skill. The model doesn’t include a battery, so you need to add at least 15 dollars to the price or more if you want spares.

  • 3. RTR Gas-Powered Zelos G Catamaran | Top Pick

RTR Gas-Powered Zelos G Catamaran

Editor’s Rating: 4.4/5

Pro Boat gets the Top Pick with it’s incredible gas-powered Zelos 48” catamaran. We’re in the big league now. It’s the kind of model that beginners and intermediate enthusiasts aspire to.

  • Best feature 1: Wide, triple layered fiberglass hull
  • Best feature 2: Sturdy canopy w/ thumb screw fasteners
  • Plus points: Powerful 30cc engine, water cooling, metal prop, centrifugal clutch, boat stand
  • Minus points: Needs experience and maintenance skills
  • Zelos G Catamaran Highlights

The Zelos™ 48 Type G Catamaran is a gorgeous boat. It has a classic sporty look with a striking trim finish. That makes it an attractive display model when it’s out of the water (stand included). And it’s well-protected against brutal crashes thanks to the extra layers of reinforced fiberglass.

  • The Zelos G Power System

This powerful high-speed boat springs to life when it’s on the water. Expect speeds of 50+ mph (80+ km/h) from its gas-powered 30cc Dynamite® Zenoah G300PUM engine. It starts effortlessly too with the EZ Starting System, so no pulling needed. The boat has a 3-blade metal prop that’s durable and long-lasting. It’s also possible to sharpen and balance the prop to improve performance further.

The metal propeller won’t spin when the engine is idle thanks to the centrifugal clutch. This safety feature protects hands and fingers when moving the boat in and out of the water. Surprisingly, not all big boats include a centrifugal clutch. Also, the propeller strut has anodizing to protect it in harsh conditions, and that includes salt water.

Another feature to mention is the water-cooling system. It uses water pickups on the bottom of the hull and the boat’s rudder. They work by feeding water to the cat’s engine and its tuned exhaust. Keeping operating temperatures down is vital for safe and optimal operation.

  • Spektrum™ DX2E Transmitter

The Zelos G Catamaran comes with a Spektrum™ DX2E transmitter. It’s a quality controller with adjustable endpoints and an extended range. It also includes a built-in lost signal fail-safe feature for added protection. The radio system uses a waterproof Spektrum MR4000 receiver.

This boat is not for the faint-hearted, and it’s not suitable for novice users. The engine must be broken in first. Although that’s not difficult, problems do arise out of impatience and ignorance. Engines—unlike electric power—need maintenance and tweaking to perfection. There are safety issues to consider as well. These things are only negatives for the inexperienced RC boater.

  • 4. Pro Boat RTR Blackjack 24” Brushless RC Cat

Pro Boat RTR Blackjack 24” Brushless RC Cat

Editor’s Rating: 4.3/5

This RC fast cat is the ready to run (RTR) RC Blackjack 24” brushless catamaran. It’s a fun boat for use on ponds and lakes that leaves plenty of waves in its wake.

  • Best feature 1: Ready to run (RTR) catamaran
  • Best feature 2: Powerful 2000Kv brushless water-cooled motor
  • Plus points: Off-set rudder system, 1-piece electronics tray, waterproof electronics, drain plug
  • Minus points: Potentially loose parts, short running time
  • Pro Boat 24” Blackjack Highlights

Pro Boat’s lightweight RTR 24” Blackjack is ready to go right out of its box. Its blood red paint job and streamline design give it an eye-catching appearance. It can pack a punch on the water too, capable of top speeds around 30 mph (48 km/h). The power comes from a water-cooled 2000Kv brushless motor and 30A LiPo compatible ESC. Blackjack’s 2.4GHz radio system is a Spektrum™ STX FHSS.

An off-set high-strength rudder system provides the boat with outstanding stability on the water. The Blackjack has waterproof electronics and a convenient one-piece electronics tray. Other feature highlights include a handy drain plug and a waterproof hull-mounted steering servo.

This catamaran is ready to run (RTR), but there are some reports of loose parts. New users should always check for any looseness with this and any RC boat before running it. The other, more predictable con, is the short running time. How long you get depends on the battery (not included). Even so, the boat’s unlikely to go for much more than 10 minutes on a single charge.

  • 5. Rage RTR RC B1207 Super Catamaran Boat

Rage RTR RC B1207 Super Catamaran Boat

Editor’s Rating: 4.6/5

This model is the Rage RC B1207 Super Catamaran. It’s a 100% factory assembled ready to run (RTR) RC SuperCat. The model comes equipped with a 2CH, 2.4GHz radio system.

  • Best feature 1: Durable unibody ABS hull
  • Best feature 2: Fully proportional throttle and steering control
  • Plus points: Stainless steel parts, brushless power system, wooden display stand
  • Minus points: Few reviews
  • Rage B1207 Catamaran Highlights

The Rage RC B1207 SuperCat has a sleek design with an aggressive trim. It boasts a durable unibody ABS hull, stainless-steel propeller, and rudder. Users get plenty of adrenaline-pumping wave-making fun on the water too. Top speeds can reach up to 40 mph (64 km/h) in the right conditions.

High performance and smooth handling add further to the SuperCat’s appeal. We have the 2000kV water-cooled brushless motor and 40A water-cooled ESC to thank for that. And the boat’s fully proportional throttle and steering control keep you firmly in the driving seat. Some call it the water rocket, and it’s a deserved nickname too. Check out some of the video demonstrations.

This model doesn’t have much real user feedback at the time of writing. Many less experienced buyers rely on owner reviews as part of the decision-making process. Veteran RC boaters are in a better position to make informed choices based on personal experience.

  • 6. Pro Boat UL-19 Brushless Fast Hydroplane Cat

Pro Boat UL-19 Brushless Fast Hydroplane Cat

Editor’s Rating: 4.7/5

Another Pro Boat model gets the sixth slot. This time it’s the UL-19, a 30 inch brushless hydroplane. OK, so it’s not a true cat, but its super-fast performance and airfoil hull are sure to interest some.

  • Best feature 1: Lightweight, durable design with vertical fins
  • Best feature 2: Brushless power system
  • Plus points: Hand-laid fiberglass, breakaway rudder, Spektrum™ 3KG servo, metal parts
  • Minus points: Gets hot fast, short run time
  • Pro Boat UL-19 Cat Highlights

You often read comments like adrenaline-pumping and heart-pounding, but in this case, it’s true. Pro Boat’s UL-19 is an incredible vessel that runs as fast as its sleek design suggests. This puppy can reach speeds up to 50+ mph on 6S power due to its 6 pole water-cooled motor and the 120A ESC. Drivers get to experience fast, confident cornering thanks to the waterproof Spektrum™ 3KG servo.

The UL-19 hydroplane is a lightweight yet stable boat on the water. The boat’s canopy and hull use hand-laid fiberglass in the build for added strength. It has removable/replaceable vertical fins and a breakaway rudder. The model also uses metal for its vital components. They include the aluminum rudder, stainless steel 2-blade prop, aluminum propeller strut, and a stainless-steel turn fin.

The electronics tend to get overly hot even at slower speeds. You’d expect that with flat-out racing for long durations, but not at half throttle. Yes, the Pro Boat UL-19 can run on a 6S battery setup, but it won’t serve you well in the longer term. Ideally, the 2-3S 5000mAh 50C LiPo is certain to increase component life. Running time depends on the setup, but it’s going to be in single digits in all cases.

  • 7. Traxxas Red DCB M41 Brushless Catamaran

Traxxas Red DCB M41 Brushless Catamaran

Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5

Meet the Traxxas Red DCB M41. It’s a powerful brushless catamaran capable of reaching speeds up to 50 mph (80 km/h) on 6S power. The designer of this beauty is DCB or Dave’s Custom Boats.

  • Best feature 1: Wide physique catamaran
  • Best feature 2: Precision sculpted 1350 Mercury racing engines
  • Plus points: Ultra-fast, versatile, low voltage safety, adjustable battery trays, electronics tray
  • Minus points: Needs upgrades for optimal performance, high price tag
  • Traxxas Red DCB M41 Cat Highlights

The Traxxas Red DCB M41 twin hull catamaran is a beast outdoors that’s fast and versatile. It’s a stable performer too whether it’s racing across waves or smoother water. The included advanced TQi receiver, and 2.4GHz transmitter allows captains to fine-tune their boat. The incredible power comes from a pair of precision sculpted 1350 Mercury racing engines.

Let’s look at some of the other feature highlights. The adjustable battery trays with hook-and-loop straps are useful. You can adapt them to use with various Traxxas LiPo or NiMH batteries. The cat is compatible for use with 6S LiPos with integral low-voltage detection. There’s a removable electronics tray and a waterproof receiver box that are easy to access for maintenance.

It’s a beautiful boat and a great performer, but it does need upgrades for optimal performance. The stock cooling is one, and the stock plastic props don’t hold out too well either. Some users complain about the thin plastic hull as well. Despite that, I haven’t come across any reports of the hull breaking up. The cost of a Traxxas Red DCB M41 is quite high, but most fans think it offers excellent value.

Catamaran RC Boats

The catamaran hulled-boats are the most stable and fastest in any line-up. Pro Boat has a great range of RC catamarans and they are all influenced by the fastest race boats that compete in the ‘Class One’ category of offshore powerboats. The full-sized catamarans have twin outboard engines boasting more that 1000hp and are able to reach speeds in excess of 160mph. With a little tuning, you would be amazed to know that some Pro Boat RC catamarans have reached speeds in excess of 100mph – and at a fraction of the cost!

The catamaran hull designs are noted for having less volume, lighter displacement and shallower draft – which means less of the boat is in the water compared to monohull boats. Affectionally referred to as ‘Cats,’ these boats have two parallel sponsons of equal size that run along the outer edges of the hull. The two sponsons combined have a smaller hydrodynamic resistance than a monohull and the wider stance on the water can reduce both heeling and wave-induced motion.

When setting up your Pro Boat RC catamaran you will often hear people referring to the boat ‘running too wet’ which basically means it isn’t getting out of the water enough. A catamaran is designed to almost sit on top of the water and if it is unable to lift itself out of the water then it will run slower and handle poorly.

The Pro Boat designers and engineers have been heavily influenced by the full-sized Class One race boats and that has created three very exciting RC catamarans for the main high-speed part of the Pro Boat range. Available in three hull-lengths from 24” to 42” these are also some of the biggest RC boats in the range.

Let’s start with the biggest, and that is the ample Blackjack 42” 8S brushless RC catamaran. This is large scale RC racing at its most fun! The Spektrum Marine 4685 4-Pole, water-cooled motor produces over 5hp and will ensure this big boat can reach speeds of over 55mph! Smart technology throughout, this boat looks a little intimidating at first but within minutes you’ll feel right at home and find yourself pushing harder and harder to get those truly exciting speeds. It has an impact-resistant polycarbonate hull with a clean moulded composite interior. This RC boat is simple to work on and a joy to use.

The Blackjack 42” has a little brother, and that’s the Blackjack 24”. This 24” brushless RC catamaran can run on 2S or 3S LiPo batteries, can hit 30mph and is a great introduction into the world of catamaran RC boats. The distinctive red trim has great visibility on the water and looks very stylish too. This Blackjack is certainly not a gamble – always bet on red.

Between the two Blackjack cats, we have the Veles. This 29” RC catamaran is a pocket rocket. The 2000KV motor can propel this boat to 50mph+ on 6S power. It has a hand-laid fibreglass composite hull that has a very dynamic design with sharp lines and aggressive angles. The Veles 29” RC catamaran is fast and fun, whether you’re a beginner or intermediate RC boater.

Traxxas M41 Catamaran

The Traxxas M41 Catamaran dominates the waters with its size and speed, as one of the largest models offered by the company. It is meant to replicate the DCB M41, Dave’s Custom Boats founder Dave Hemingston specifically designed the full-size M41 to blend speed with ultimate power with a pair of Mercury racing engines. The smaller-scale replica reaches a speed of more than 50 miles per hour running the Traxxas 6S brushless power system.

You can trust Traxxas to provide ready-to-run vehicles that require no assembly or tweaking. Simply place them in the water and watch their brushless motors provide much-needed energy to get racing. Reach high speeds across the water and skim through any current.

Traxxas Boats

When you buy Traxxas, you will experience a company that cares about your RC experience. The founders were inspired by the lack of high-quality vehicles on a small scale and wanted to level the playing field for beginners and expert hobbyists. That is why they seek to reduce the learning curve so that anyone can master an RC vehicle, either on land or on the open water. Each car, truck, and boat has a 2.4GHz radio system for excellent reliability.

We recommend the Traxxas DCB M41 40-Inch Brushless Ready-to-Race Boat 6S Performance Combo for beginners that want maximum power. This model runs on electric power, so it is easy to charge and then it’s ready for speeds of 50 MPH or more.

Engineers have made the DCB M41 highly durable and stable with the exclusive Traxxas Stability Management (TSM), so that the boat will stay tracking where you want it to go, even if the water is a little choppy. The M41 includes the TQi 2.4 GHz radio system.

Traxxas M41 Parts and Upgrades

Always make sure that you have extra batteries and a charger for your vehicle. While RC Superstore sells some batteries and chargers with certain models, be sure to have a spare set of batteries. A good charger can make all the difference when you run out of power before a race.

One great combo for the M41 is the Traxxas 2990 Dual EZ-Peak ID Charger & 2x 3S 5000mAh LiPo Battery Completer . It is designed to assist dual battery vehicles, including the M41, and can charge these two LiPo batteries in just over an hour. Simply insert the batteries that need to be charged and press the “Start” button. The progress bar will keep you updated about if they are ready. One of these will keep you set for the next race.

best rc catamaran boat

Best RC Catamaran Boat

RC catamarans are a lot of fun to drive. They can be faster than a mono hull as they have two smaller hulls and have a tunnel for air to go under to get more lift to lift the hull out of the water to gain more speed. These are also prone to tipping over if you have too much lift.

Overall, catamarans are one of my favorite RC boats to drive as they can turn sharp, handle rough water good, and do have the excitement of flipping over if you are screaming down the lake.

In the following list, we will go over some of the best models on the market today. These are high quality models with replacement and upgrade parts available. We don’t want to recommend a model that you cannot find parts for, or get support for if it breaks.

Pro Boat Blackjack 24

best rc catamaran boat

The Pro Boat Blackjack 24 is a great beginner catamaran, it is 24″ long which is a good size as it still can be ran off of only one battery. When you get into larger sizes, you will need two batteries to run which equals double the cost and double the charging time unless you have two chargers.

The Blackjack 24 will go about 20 mph with a 2s battery and about 30 mph with a 3s battery. The speeds of this boat are not too great so you won’t have too many capsize events.

Pro Boat includes a high quality Spektrum 2.4 GHz radio with a waterproof receiver. In fact, all of the electronics are waterproof on this model including the 30 amp ESC.

The hatch on the hull has a seal to keep it as watertight as possible, but if water does get in there is a drain plug.

The hull is made out of ABS plastic and is pushed by a 2,000 kv motor. ABS is not as strong as fiberglass for a boat, but it works great to keep costs down.

The electronics, motor, and battery are mounted on an offset plastic piece in the hull keeping all of the electronics off of the ABS bottom and it also stiffens up the hull. All the parts within the hull are easily accessed due to the large hatch cover if you ever have to work on the boat.

The drivetrain exits the hull out of a stuffing tube and drives the plastic prop. There is a large offset metal rudder which has a water pickup for cooling the motor and speed control.

Although the electronics are waterproof, we still recommend using hatch tape to ensure water does not get into the hull.

The red color on the hull screams this boat is fast and looks great on the water. The added graphics are slick and stylish.

  • Great boat for beginners and intermediate drivers
  • Great value
  • Quality Components
  • Could go a bit faster out of the box

Traxxas DCB M41

best rc catamaran boat

The Traxxas M41 is a beast of a package for a RTR boat. The model measures in at over 40″ long and was designed after the full size Widebody M41. This catamaran looks MEAN on the water and truly is mean when powered with 6s lipo’s.

This boat is capable of speeds over 50+ mph on a small pond, or even on a lake with some waves due to its large stable size.

All of the electronics are mounted to a removable tray which is quickly removable for service. The same goes for the motor mount which is also mounted to the internal structure built into the boat to provide extra rigidity to the hull. The hull is made out of ABS plastic, but has been reinforced from the inside to prevent any damage.

Now if you are going 50+ in any boat, you will probably have damage whether fiberglass or ABS, so ABS is not a huge negative here.

Just like most of the other boats, there is a quick connect flex cable drive system used to couple power from the motor to the included composite plastic prop.

The hardware on this boat is made of high grade aluminum with the rudder having an integrated water pick up tube for cooling the electronics.

Speaking of electronics, they are all waterproof. The servo, receiver box, Velineon 6S speed control and motor are used in other models with great success and they have been brought over to the boating world.

You never thought you would see a boat with stability control, but there is always a first for everything. Traxxas includes this feature on their TQi radio system which can also have a bluetooth module to connect to your phone for real time data sharing.

This model uses either 2 2s batteries or 2 3s batteries for huge 6s speed!

This model is great for the beginner who wants to start with a good platform to an advanced user wanting to do speed runs or just spend a day ripping around at the lake.

  • Huge value for the money
  • Backed by Traxxas Support
  • Great for all water situations
  • Good parts support
  • Great components
  • Great aftermarket support
  • Would be nice to have a fiberglass body for the price

Pro Boat Zelos

best rc catamaran boat

The first thing I have to say about the Pro Boat Zelos is that it is a BEAST! Pro Boat has outdone themselves with this model. First off, the hull is a full 36″ of hand laid fiberglass . Did I mention that it has TWIN counter rotating 1900Kv 4 pole motors pushing large metal props.

That is all I need to say. The review is done.

Just kidding, I am going to give the disclaimer that this boat is not for everyone. As it can do 75+ mph out of the box, this boat takes some skill as well as lots of batteries to run. The boat is capable of running on 6s batteries for each ESC. This thing can really scoot.

To control this monster, Pro Boat includes a high quality Spektrum DX2E DSMR radio which is not your typical RTR throwaway. There is a M4000 plotted receiver to receive your commands and a waterproof high-torque Spektrum Servo that will drive your scale push pull rudder with working scale dampers.

The fiberglass hull is painted yellow for the Miss Geico theme and is watertight with the secure thumbscrew canopy latch system, but included are waterproof electronics just in cast. Also, as a just in case, we recommend you use hatch tape in order to keep every drop out.

There are two water cooled Dynamite 120A marine ESC’s capable of handling 6s battery power each to drive the 4 pole motors. To keep all this cool is dual water pick ups mounted under the hull.

Each propeller strut drives a counter rotating metal prop via flex shaft and is made out of beautiful black aluminum.

Open up the hatch and you will find it full of gear organized nicely. By being a dual, there is a lot of items that are stuffed in the hull: two ESC’s, two motors, receiver, servo, and two huge trays to mount your batteries.

This boat is for the avid boater who wants to go fast and hear that scream of dual motors. There is a certain sound of a dual motor rc boat, once you hear that sweet sweet sound, you will never want to go back.

  • Includes high quality running gear
  • This is truly the first and last boat you will need to buy
  • Fastest out of the box on the market
  • Dual motors
  • Metal props stock
  • This boat is a bit expensive
  • Needs LOTS of batteries
  • Duals may require more maintenance and cost to replace

Pro Boat Veles

best rc catamaran boat

The Pro Boat Veles is the younger sibling to the Zelos. Measuring in at 29″ this boat is more of a good all around boat that can still rip and go 50+ mph out of the box. This catamaran has a hand laid fiberglass hull with fiberglass hatch for better durability. The boat is a lighter green branded the Veles.

Pro Boat includes a high quality radio, the Spektrum DX2E radio and receiver which controls the high torque waterproof Spektrum servo. The 2000Kv 6 pole marine motor is controlled with a 120 amp Dynamite speed control. The servo controls the offset break away aluminum rudder with water pickup for cooling both the motor and speed control.

All of the parts in the hull are mounted on a composite frame making them easier to access and service. There are battery trays on each side of the cameraman providing a low center of gravity allowing you to rip through the turns.

The propeller strut is adjustable and holds the metal prop which is ran off of a flex shaft.

On 4s this boat is capable of 45+ mph and on 6s, this boat can run 50+. Add a sharpened and balanced prop, and you will have an awesome boat out of the box.

The hull hatch is has a rubber seal to prevent water from entering, but as we recommend with every boat, use tape in addition. The thumb screws really seal and lock the hatch down. A lot better than the magnets we see on some.

This boat is for most boaters, not quite a beginner boat, but not a dual motor monster. This boat can rip quickly around the lake, or just jump waves for fun.

  • Thumb screw hatch
  • 120 Amp ESC
  • DX2E Radio Included
  • 50+ mph out of the box
  • Fiberglass hull
  • Still need dual batteries
  • Trim tabs would be nice

Pro Boat Miss Geico 17

best rc catamaran boat

The Pro Boat Miss Geico 17 is a great beginner boat or boat for kids. It will be fun in the pool, pond, or even lake. The boat is 17″ long with is a lot shorter than the other boats we recommend which makes it good for small bodies of water.

This boat is powered by a brushed 380 water-cooled motor and has a 2.4 GHz radio so you don’t have to worry about being on the same channel while playing with your friends. I remember when I was young and you had to make sure you had the red and the blue car if you wanted to play with a friend. That problem is gone.

This boat is truly RTR as it includes a charger and 7.2 volt Ni-MH battery. The speed control has forward and reverse in case you get yourself out of a jam. Most high performance boats do not have reverse.

The hull is made out of molded ABS plastic which is strong enough to handle anything in this size of boat. A single plastic prop drives the boat and the boat is controlled by an inline rudder.

The electronics are not waterproof in this boat so you will want to make sure you tape the hatch every time.

Make sure to buy some extra batteries, or even get a lipo cutoff and some lipo batteries to extend the runtime and speed out of this boat.

This boat is for the beginner boater who wants to have FUN. Boats this size are a blast to race with friends or family. I leave my boat in the car and play with it when we travel and it draws lots of attention.

  • Includes battery and charger
  • Great beginner boat
  • Not the fastest boat
  • Electronics are not waterproof

Joysway Magic Cat

best rc catamaran boat

The Joysway Magic Cat is a micro boat measuring in at only 10″. I have its sister mono hull boat, and it sure is a BLAST. I use mine to surf the waves at the lake or even behind a boats wake. The top speed is about 12.5 mph so for such a small boat they really move. Add a lipo battery with cutoff and you have an awesome package.

Joysway includes a 2.4GHz radio on this model to ensure precise control. There is a 180 size water-cooled motor to drive this boat and a waterproof 9 gram servo to steer it with its inline rudder.

Included is everything you need to run, a 260mah battery, usb charger, usb DC adapter, 9v battery for the transmitter, and boat stand.

This boat isn’t just for kids, it is for people of all ages. I still enjoy running mine and hope to let my 2 year old daughter take the wheel this summer.

This boat can truly go anywhere: lakes, ponds, fountains, pools, hot tubs, or anywhere there is water. Even if you are an avid boater and have 10 other fast boats, this boat is a great one to add to the arsenal for that person who always wants to try one while you are running.

  • Great price
  • Gets you started in the hobby
  • Great to race with friends
  • For the price, there really are no cons.

Best RC Boats for 2023

Buyers guide & reviews.

While some folks would prefer to sit idly on the shore, not you though, you want to wreak havoc on the calm waters and throw some wicked rooster tails! In that case, RC boating is the game. And to win, you need the absolute best rc boats money can buy.

Whether you want to race it across the waters against others or re-enact your favorite sea battle or just stir up some trouble for the local fish, a trusty RC boat can help you achieve it all. To know more about this exciting hobby, keep reading:

What is an RC Boat?

RC Boats are toy boats that can be navigated easily with the help of a remote controller. This controller allows you to operate your boat up to long distances via radio waves or Bluetooth. These toy boats can reach high speeds and can be used by professional RC racers or even beginners who want to have fun in the water. They are mostly made of plastic while some of their parts are made of metal.

Types of RC Boats:

There are a total of 6 main types of RC boats that are either powered by electric, nitro or gas.

Fun Sports Boats: These are the most common and popular among hobbyists. These are regular boats that are used to take out for a spin on the water. They maximum speed is around 15 mph.

High-End Sports Boats:  These have high speeds greater than 20 mph. They are mainly used for winning competitions and racing. They can easily achieve speeds of 60+ mph with a few modifications.

RC Sailboats:  Sailboats are powered by the wind, however, they use the remote control to steer the ship and adjust the positions of the trim and the sails.

RC Scale Boats:  Scale boats are often modeled off real sized versions. They are actually built to scale to their larger counterparts.

Tug Boats:  Tug boats are generally considered the same as the RC scale boat. The difference lies in the fact these tugboats utilize a scale drive system.

Combat Boat:  A combat boat is for the extreme competitions. They are built like real warships. They can fire projectiles at their opponents in order to damage or sink them. These models tend to need repairs quite often.

RC Boat Buying Guide:

When it comes to choosing the best RC boats, there are some factors that one must consider before making a purchase. These various factors can decide how much you will enjoy your RC boat over the next couple of days. Here they are:

Type of Boat:

The first question you must ask yourself is for what purpose will you be using the boat. If you want to use the boat only on long weekends in your backyard pool or you want to gift it to a child, then a toy grade RC boat will be perfect in terms of price and control.

However, if you want to fly your RC boat over water at high speeds, then you might want to invest in a high-end sports boat. If you are in the mood for a leisurely ride across the river, the RC sailboat will be your best friend.

It can help you gain an understanding of real-life sailing techniques. Scale boats are fun if you want to operate your favorite boat. Lastly, combat boats are perfect for military-style folks who want to wage wars against other ships. However, ensure there are other RC warships in your area as well.

Speed is the most important factor to consider when it comes to these RC boats. They are available in a wide range of speeds from 15 mph to 40+ mph. If you want to spend some leisure time around then choose the lower speed ones as they are affordable, while if you want to race then it goes without saying that the higher speed ones are a better option.

Size is more of a personal preference. Some folks prefer them to be small enough to fit on a hand while others want them to be larger and heavier.

Most electric boats use either a brushed motor or a brushless one. The brushed motors are cheaper however, they generate less power and result in overheating. Their brushless counterparts, on the other hand, generate better speeds and produce less friction.

The shape of the hull can directly influence the boat’s performance. Monohulls form a V shape and are super agile able to move in all directions. They are mostly used for rough conditions. Hydroplanes resemble a dual-pronged fork and work well in calmer waters. The Catamarans are a combination of two equal sized hulls that ensure stability in the roughest of conditions. However, they cannot work well in deeper waters.

Cooling System:

A water cooling system is a perfect way to enhance your boat’s performance. They ensure that the boat’s motor lasts longer.

Self Righting feature:

The self-righting feature is important as you cannot always go rushing in the water every time your boat capsizes. Buy one that can do auto flips!

Here is a quick video displaying the self-righting feature, notice how the boat is always upright even on quick turns.

Radio or remote-controlled boats are sophisticated and high tech boats controlled by radio transmitters. They are usually built for aqua studies, fun and adventure, and technology studies. The best RC boats are not the type of boats that are human-controlled, they are controlled by the signals sent through the radio transmitters. It is the radio transmitters that send signal instructions to these RC boats which transmit into actions. The action signals which the radio transmitters send to these RC boats include movement, direction, levitation, emerging, speed among other actions. Atomik rc a.r.c. 58-inch electric racing cat.

Tony Phalen June 5, 2014 Reviews 648 Views

Gasoline-Size Boat with Watts of Power!

I love electric boating. How can you not? Electric boats are clean, quiet and easy-to-use. Today’s brushless power plants provide gobs of power and tons of speed. The only drawback that I had with electric boating was that the hull sizes were usually smaller; in the 36-inch or less range. That is until now… Atomik RC has just released their new 58-inch RTR Catamaran A.R.C. (Atomik Racing Catamaran) powered by a whopping 2000 watt brushless motor that will easily develop speeds in excess of 40mph right out of the box. The A.R.C. has a beautiful hand-laid fiberglass hull with full color graphics and a smooth gel coat. Driving the motor is an Atomik 120A water-cooled speed control with BEC (battery eliminating circuit) to power the radio system. The A.R.C. comes with an Atomik 3-channel 2.4GHz transmitter featuring digital trims, dual rates and failsafe. This boat is sure to turn heads on the water delivering electric performance in a gasoline-size hull. The A.R.C is a real performer with a lot to offer, so let’s take a closer look.

AT A GLANCE WHO MAKES IT: Atomik RC WHO IT’S FOR: Beginner to intermediate boaters HOW MUCH: $999.99 BUILD TYPE: RTR BOAT TYPE: Electric Catamaran THE BOTTOM LINE: The 58-inch Atomik A.R.C. delivers awesome performance that you would expect from a brushless-powered electric boat with the ability to tame the rough seas with its large fiberglass hull. The A.R.C. is a true RTR with a high-performance electronics package that will have you out on the water lapping the gas boats in short order. The A.R.C. is simple for any novice boater to have success with immediately and with confidence and best yet, will give you the performance you demand.

PROS + 2000 watt brushless outrunner power system + 2.4GHz Atomik 3-channel radio system + High-quality CNC machined aluminum running hardware + Attractive color graphics under protective clear coat + Excellent performance

CONS – Steering to the right was more sensitive than the left, making it easy to oversteer.

SPECS AND TUNING OPTIONS A.R.C. HULL OVERALL LENGTH: 58 in. BEAM: 15 in. OVERALL HEIGHT: 13 in. HULL MATERIAL: Hand-laid fiberglass WEIGHT: 13 lb.

MOTOR TYPE: V700 1100Kv Outrunner Marine Motor DIMENSIONS: 48x58mm SHAFT DIAMETER: 5mm MAX RPM: 40,000 MAX AMP: 130A

ESC TYPE: Atomik 120A Pro Marine Brushless CONTINUOUS CURRENT: 120A BURST CURRENT: 240A BEC OUTPUT: 6V/3A BATTERY CELLS: 2-6S LiPo

RADIO GEAR TRANSMITTER: Atomik 3-channel 2.4GHz RECEIVER: 8188, 4-channel micro SERVO: 1825, High-torque metal gear SERVO SPEED: .17 sec/60 degrees SERVO TORQUE: 107 oz./in. @ 6V

DRIVE GEAR PROP: 54mm, 3-blade aluminum RUDDER: Aluminum knife-edged DRIVE SYSTEM: Flex shaft

HULL Out of the box this cat commands attention with its beautiful bright white, yellow and black graphics scheme under an ultra-smooth clear coat on a hand laid fiberglass hull. The laser-cut plywood internals are engineered for multiple electric configurations. The pre-installed laser-cut radio box and battery tray system will accompany a single 6S LiPo battery and is expandable for up to a 12S dualpack configuration. There are eight thumb screws that hold the acrylic radio box cover in place. The fiberglass gel coat hatch is secured in place with two twist-lock spring-loaded hatch pins for easy tool-less access.

RUNNING HARDWARE Atomik outfitted the A.R.C. with high-grade, lightweight CNC machined aluminum running hardware. The CNC aluminum strut assembly gives you complete adjustability of your prop pitch angle and height so you can tune your boat for optimum performance for the water conditions. A pushrod connects the steering servo to the rudder and passes through a rubber boot that keeps water from entering the hull. The rudder features dual water pickups; one for the motor and one for the ESC to ensure everything is running cool.

POWER SYSTEM When you remove the hatch from a boat this size, the first thing you expect to see is a large gasoline power plant. Not on the A.R.C.! This cat is powered by a 2000 watt brushless outrunner electric motor. This 12 ounce motor can turn a 3-blade prop at over 27,000rpm pushing this boat at speeds in excess of 40mph. Driving the motor is an Atomik 120amp water-cooled ESC. The ESC can run with battery packs ranging from 2 to 6-cells. The motor mount is completely water-cooled which helps dissipate heat from the motor. The motor is coupled to a flex shaft that runs down an aluminum stuffing tube to spin the included CNC machined 54mm 3-blade prop. It is also important to mention that the design of the motor mount and prop drive system lends itself to be customized by the end user. You have the ability to upgrade the power system to meet your racing needs.

ELECTRONICS The laser-cut radio box is attached to the main plywood ribs at the rear of the hull. An acrylic hatch is held securely in place with eight thumb screws to provide a watertight compartment for the radio gear. Inside the box, an Atomik radio system is already installed. An Atomik 1825 high-torque metal-gear servo gives you precise rudder control. To control the boat, Atomik included its 3-channel 2.4GHz radio system. The radio has many features found on high-end systems such as digital trims, dual rates and a failsafe circuit.

PERFORMANCE After staring at the Atomik A.R.C. in the office for hours, I was anxious to get this bad boy on to the water and see what it could do. I headed over to our local pond with a fully charged Venom battery pack and was ready for action. It is a great feeling to head to the water with nothing more than a battery pack. No fuel, no fussing with engine settings–just a fun day on the water ahead.

I placed the A.R.C. into the water and slowly pulled the trigger. The prop immediately bit into the water and started moving the boat with authority. There was no cavitation, just solid grip as if it had tires. I punched the throttle and 2000 watts of power lifted the 13-pound boat out of the water like nothing. It was instantly on plane. Even as the water got choppier, it didn’t seem to make much difference to this large cat. There were a couple of instances where I got a little overzealous and it hit a decent wave at full-throttle, sending the A.R.C. flying into the air. It was amazing to see how balanced the boat was in the air as it landed perfectly in the water, just like you would see with the full-scale cats. The A.R.C. definitely had my heart racing and I was not so “trigger happy” when the next large wave rolled around.

The turning radius on the A.R.C. was surprisingly tight and even on a high-speed tight turn the hull maintained stability with no signs of rolling over. I did tweak the radio a bit to tame the turning radius and I added dual rates so my nervous hands would not oversteer the boat.

Since the boat is marketed to the beginner to intermediate boater, I wanted to really test out its stability. In about 3 to 4-inch chop, I made many high-speed passes, zigging and zagging each time. I really had to work at getting the boat to become unstable and even when I finally got it up on one side of the hull; simply reducing the throttle tamed it right down. The level of stability that the A.R.C. has makes this a great first largescale boat for any boat enthusiast, but it’s sure to keep a seasoned boater on the edge of their seat. After about five minutes I could feel that the battery was starting to lose its charge. As soon as you feel a performance drop, it is good to get the boat back to the dock before the low-voltage cutoff jumps in and has you swimming to retrieve it. With speeds exceeding 40mph, combined with a stable ride, the A.R.C. was a whole lot of fun!

NEEDED TO COMPLETE • “AA” batteries • 25C or 50C 6S 5000mAh LiPo battery pack • Charger

WHAT WE USED • Venom 50C 5000mAh • 6S LiPo battery • Venom “AA” batteries (8) • Venom Pro Charger Plus

TOOLS TOOLS INCLUDED: Allen wrenches TOOLS RECOMMENDED: Hex driver set, screw driver set, needle nose pliers, side cutters, hobby knife and curved scissors HARDWARE TYPE: Metric

DOCKSIDE DEDUCTIONS The Atomik 58-inch A.R.C. is sure to set a new trend in the model boating world — large electric boats! When it comes to ease of use, simplicity and performance, it is really hard to beat an electric boat. The A.R.C. performed better than most of the gasoline boats that I have run. The hull is hand-crafted and finished with a bright three-color graphics scheme. Atomik outfitted all the running hardware with high-grade CNC aluminum components. Pushing the boat was a quality, 3-blade, CNC machined, aluminum prop. Inside the hull, the laser-cut formers kept everything securely in place and the motor mount is designed for multiple brushless motor configurations. The radio box provides easy access via thumb screws to the radio gear; no more hatch tape! There is no doubt that Atomik has a real winner here with the A.R.C. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned boater, you will love the performance that you get from this big cat. When you couple high-quality components with a rock-solid and stable hull, you have a boat that is going to provide you with countless hours of action on the water.

First on our list is the Altair AA102 remote control boat. It is a little pricey, but for a good reason. Altair makes a variety of remote control vehicles, so the AA102 remote control boat is a great remote control boat to have.

Its top speed is 30/kmh or 19mph, and it has a 390 brushed motor. The hull is designed not to capsize so that it can be used in pools, lakes, and creeks. When the boat flips over, turn the wheel of the remote control to flip it back over. This makes taking hard turns fun because you know the boat can get turned back upright quickly.

If the boat gets too far away, there is an out-of-range alarm that sounds to let you know the boat is getting too far away to respond to the remote control. There is also a low battery alarm letting you know to charge the batteries. The two lithium-ion batteries are included, charged, and ready to go right out of the box.

The frequency of the remote controls your boat only. This means you can race with other boats, even boats that are the same model as the Altair AA102. The total drive time of the batteries is 20 minutes, with each battery providing 10 minutes of drive time.

  • Easy to use
  • Batteries included and rechargeable
  • Anti-capsize design
  • No interference with other RC vehicles
  • Reverse difficult to use

The DEERC H120 remote control boat has a 4-channel 2.4 GHz remote with a range of 150 meters or nearly 500 feet. The two batteries will power the motor and accelerate it to 20mph. The two lithium-ion batteries can be recharged with the included USB charger. The fully charged batteries give you 16 minutes of drive time (8 minutes each for each battery).

The design of the boat has an anti-capsizing hull with capsize recovery. This means if your boat capsizes, you can easily flip it back over with the remote. There is also a motor cooling system so that the motor does not become overheated as it runs. The motor will not run until it senses contact with water. This means you can’t accidentally turn the motor on and overheat it or damage it on a dry or hard surface.

When the batteries are low, there is a low battery alarm that sounds and indicates that the batteries should be charged. The charging time for the batteries is just two hours.

  • Great design
  • Safe operation; only works in water and motor cooling system
  • Capsize recovery
  • Short battery life

The Pro Boat Blackjack Catamaran remote control boat is made for those who want a remote control boat to replicate the catamaran racing boats that are frequently shown on TV. Its design, stability, and high speed make it a great option to replicate those racing boats that you see on TV.

It can reach speeds of 30mph, making it one of the fastest remote control boats on the market today. To keep it balanced and stable, there is an offset rudder system at the stern of the boat, so you don’t have to worry about the boat coming out of the water.

The electronics are all waterproof, so you can rest assured that the electronics on the boat are safe and protected. There is also a built-in drain plug to drain any water that gets into the boat as it is being used.

The only downside to this boat is that it will need two lithium-ion or NIMH batteries along with a battery charger and 4 AA batteries. These are not included with the boat.

  • Design replicates catamaran racing boats
  • High speeds
  • Rudder system keeps the boat stable and balanced
  • Batteries not included

MOSTOP HJ806 Remote Control Boat

MOSTOP HJ806 Remote Control Boat

Although it’s a little pricier than other models, the MOSTOP HJ806 remote control boat has features and functions that make it worth it.

The motor of this remote control boat is more rugged and tough than the rest. The high-speed motor is magnetic and twice as strong as the motors that are typically used in remote control boats. This means the boat can power over waves, wake, and strong currents easily without resistance.

The features of the MOSTOP HJ806 include reverse sailing, ship resetting, and an automatic shut off when the ship leaves the water. All of these features help the remote control boat function to its maximum and safest potential.

The radiofrequency allows for multiple players to use their boats without fear of interfering with one another.

The hull of the ship has a double waterproof enclosure to ensure that water doesn’t get into the motor or the hull to damage or sink the boat. The hull is also made of tough material that is resistant to cracks after colliding with an object or another boat. There is a water circulation cooling system that will extend the life of the motor so that it doesn’t overheat as it is being used.

A low battery alarm lets you know when the boat needs to be recharged. This keeps you from stranding your boat in the middle of the water if the battery dies; you know exactly when to bring it back to recharge. There is also a weak signal alarm that beeps when you are getting out of range. Just like the low battery alarm, this tells you to bring the boat closer to you so that the boat doesn’t get so far away that it can’t respond to the frequency signals.

  • Functional design made out of quality materials
  • Alarms for low battery and low signal
  • Strong motor
  • More expensive

FT016 Submarine Racing Speedboat (18.9”)

FT016 Submarine Racing Speedboat

The FT016 remote control boat is 18.9” long, but there are two additional models you can choose from if you prefer a bigger size. There is a 25.5” and 31.5” speedboat you can choose if you want something bigger. Just be aware that the price jumps pretty substantially when selecting a bigger size.

For the 18.9”, it is affordable, fast, and durable. The maximum speed tops out at around 20mph, and the motor is protected by an air circulation cooling system so that the motor doesn’t overheat as it is used.

The hull is made of ABS thermoplastic and gold powder so that it can withstand impacts on the water. You don’t have to worry about the hull of the boat getting damaged after just once impact. This also ensures that the boat won’t chip off during those impacts as well.

There is a flip-correction mechanism that will turn the boat back over on top of the water in case it becomes capsized. You can easily correct the boat using the remote instead of having to enter the water to fix it.

There is one pre-charged lithium-ion battery and a battery charger included with the boat so you can unbox and go.

  • Hull should not crack or scratch
  • Flip-correction mechanism to turn boat upright again
  • Only one battery instead of two

Udirc Venom High-Speed Remote Control Boat

Udirc Venom High-Speed Remote Control Boat

Another affordable remote control boat on our list is the Venom high-speed remote control boat by Udirc.

Although it is affordable, it only has a top speed of 15mph, making it one of the slowest on our list.

The hull is made of ABS thermoplastic, and it is anti-tilt, water-cooled, and features a single propeller 370-size motor. The hull also has a self-righting feature that will correct the boat when it capsizes so that you can continue playing.

The boat includes one lithium-ion battery and a charger. There is a low battery alarm that lets you know when you need to charge the boat.

It is important to know that when you charge the boat, you need to make sure the boat is completely dry. Water can get into the battery area and cause the battery to malfunction if it tries to charge while wet.

  • Self-righting feature to correct the boat if capsized
  • Low battery alarm
  • Lithium-ion battery and charger included
  • Only one battery shortens the playing time and lessens the overall speed of the boat

Traxxas M41 Catamaran Remote Control Boat

Traxxas M41 Catamaran Remote Control Boat

This catamaran remote control boat by Traxxas has quickly become a fan favorite. If you want your remote control boat to go fast, it doesn’t get much faster than this one.

This boat is large. Very large, in fact, at 40” long, and it weighs 5 pounds. It is the largest and heaviest on our list, but for a good reason.

The Traxxas catamaran remote control boat can go over 50mph when using a 65 lithium-ion battery. Unfortunately, the 65 lithium-ion battery is not included, so you will have to purchase this separately if you want the boat to hit those kinds of speeds.

What is included with the boat is a remote control transmitter that has model memory so you can adjust your speed and stability. You can also purchase the Traxxas Link Wireless Module that you can use with your smartphone to make adjustments directly in the app. You can time your intervals and record your speed, all within the app.

Traxxas has included a stability-management feature in this boat so that the boat always stays glued to the water and in a straight line if it feels it is getting off course and losing control.

All of the equipment on the boat is sealed so that water cannot enter. There is a flex cable to keep all of the motor components in place for easy removal if you need to service it.

  • Exceptionally fast
  • Model memory to easily adjust speed and stability
  • Stability-management feature
  • Durable quality and design

Pro Boat Recoil 17” Remote Control Boat

Pro Boat Recoil 17” Remote Control Boat

The 17” Recoil boat by Pro Boat features a deep V-shaped hull which gives the boat increased stability on the water.

The boat can reach speeds of 25mph, has a self-righting feature that will keep the boat from staying belly-up if it capsizes, and an aluminum rudder with stainless steel trim tabs. The propeller has two blades that are composite-molded.

There is a low battery alert that will beep when the battery in the boat is low and needs to be charged. It includes one lithium-ion battery and one charger. The lithium-ion battery included with the boat gives it about 15 minutes of run time with a top speed of about 25mph.

You will need two AA batteries for the controller.

  • Self-righting feature
  • Quality design
  • Requires two AA batteries for the controller

Choosing the Best Remote Control Boat

Sure, you can search for a remote control boat and buy the first one that comes up and will likely have an RC boat that works, but it will likely be a risk that you shouldn’t have to take. Not all remote control boats are the same, especially if you will be using your remote control boat in a body of water that has a current.

The last thing you want to happen when you place your RC boat in the water is to have it drift away because the boat you chose doesn’t have a motor equipped to push through currents or moving water.

To help you throughout the buying process, we have assembled a list of conditions to consider so that you can choose the remote control boat that has the right features and equipment that you need.

Before anything else, you need to know where you will be using your boat. This is why we have put it first on our list. This will set the stage for the type of boats you need to look for and the type of boats you need to steer clear of.

If the water in which you will be placing the boat will have a current or wake, like a creek, river, or ocean, you will need to choose an RC boat with a strong motor. If the water is calm, like a pool or a pond or small lake, you can choose a remote control boat with a lighter motor.

It’s important to understand that a remote control boat in a pool, pond, or small lake can still have a strong motor. Just because you are using the boat in a calm body of water doesn’t mean you can’t have an RC boat with a strong motor.

It is just important to know that your boat will only be successful in water with strong currents or waves if it has a strong motor that will power through that kind of resistance.

Remote control boats come in all different shapes to replicate real, full-size boats. There are catamaran, v-hull, deep v-hull, and pontoon hulls. The hull shape you choose will contribute to how easily the boat will be to capsize and how easily the boat will be to recover (turn upright) if capsized.

Many remote control boats come with an anti-capsizing feature that allows the boat to be quickly and easily recovered if capsized. This is an important feature to look for when choosing an RC boat because you don’t want to have to rescue your boat from the middle of the water if it can’t flip back over. Additionally, if the boat is flipped over for too long and the deck of the boat is not properly sealed, water may enter the boat and damage the components inside.

Battery Type and Life

Remote control boats will have a power source that typically comes from a battery. Before settling for a remote control boat, take a look at the battery it requires and the life of the battery.

The type of battery that the remote control boat uses can determine the speed and total playing time of the boat. For example, two lithium-ion batteries will double your speed and run time of the boat, whereas one lithium-ion battery will give you a slower boat with shorter playtime.

Some remote control boats can support upgraded batteries that make them go faster and play longer. If you are interested in making upgrades to your boat, see if the remote control boat can support upgraded batteries or additional battery packs.

Remote Control

Most remote controls come with a frequency that only the RC boat can recognize and respond to. This means multiple boats can race without worrying about interference with one another on the water.

Make sure the remote control of the boat has authenticated that multiple boats can be used in conjunction with one another without interfering.

The remote control should also be easy to use and have an alarm that sounds when the battery is low, or the boat is out of range. This will keep you from having to enter the water to retrieve a boat that has become a sitting duck in the water.

The remote control should also have an anti-capsizing feature on the boat for you to quickly and easily rescue the boat straight from the remote with a simple action on the controller. The boat should be able to turn right-side-up if becoming capsized.

Many remote control boats come with a feature that will cause the motor of the boat to shut off if it is not in contact with water. This prevents the motor from overheating or burning itself out, trying to propel the boat on a surface that it shouldn’t.

The motor of the boat should also have a cooling system that will keep the motor cool as it is run for long periods of time. The motor should be sealed off from water or waterproof so that it doesn’t become damaged when it comes in contact with water.

If the motor of the boat does not indicate that it has protection from water or an automatic shut off when it comes in contact with land or a hard surface, you will likely damage the motor and will need to purchase a new one to replace inside your RC boat. Unless you have an RC boat with an awesome hull that you want to continue using, you would probably have to replace the RC boat altogether, which can be costly.

Accessories

We have placed accessories at the bottom of the list because they shouldn’t be considered a requirement in choosing a boat, but we understand that they can influence the overall decision in which remote control boat to buy; especially if it is neck and neck between two options.

Remote control boats that have additional accessories may include upgraded battery packs, smartphone application, or additional propellers. These accessories can help take your boat from ordinary to extraordinary and should only be considered if the RC boat has met the other requirements you need for the water in which it will be used.

For example, a smartphone application won’t do you any good if the boat you have chosen is not equipped to power through strong currents or waves. This is why the body of water where the boat will be located is so important.

Remote control boats don’t have to break the bank. There are many affordable options for you to unbox and go. Just make sure the remote control boat you choose can work in the type of water you will be putting it in.

Boat enthusiasts gather for Redwood City’s annual Pacific Boat Show

( KRON ) — In honor of National Safe Boating Week, this weekend, Redwood City held the 2024 Pacific Sail & Boat show to display new yachts, sailboats, powerboats, catamarans, electric boats, and, most importantly, talk boat safety.

“We are thrilled to be returning to Westpoint Harbor for the second year with even more to offer newbies and boating enthusiasts alike,” said California Yacht Broker’s Association President Mark White. “From all-electric boats for on-the-water fun to luxury sailing yachts, this year’s show is back with more boats and more fun for the entire family.”

The show featured a handful of new boats making their northern California debuts, including the Saxdor 320 GTC, one of Europe’s fastest-growing brands, which made its California debut this year. Representatives from leading boat manufacturers, exhibitors, and industry experts were also present at the show.

This year’s “Queen of the Show” — the most expensive boat at the show this year — was the 2024 Princess F45, a 47-foot luxury yacht worth over $2.1 million. This F45 is currently the only one available on the West Coast, organizers said.

In conjunction with National Safety Week, organizers also gave visitors the opportunity to learn about boating safety and receive free life jackets courtesy of the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (100 life jackets were given away on a first-come, first-serve basis.)

“The best life jacket is the one you will wear,” said National Safe Boating Council Executive Director Peg Phillips. “Whether you’re going fishing or just enjoying a ride on the boat, make sure you’re prepared for the adventure by wearing a life jacket and knowing how to use required safety gear.”

On Saturday, attendees of all ages were invited to board the Marin Science Institute’s Robert G. Brownlee 90-foot research vessel for a hands-on educational adventure with San Francisco marine life. Children also enjoyed hands-on fun, including model RC boat races and boat-themed jumpie houses.

The Pacific Sail & Power Boat Show started on Thursday and will end on Sunday. Show hours are Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, May 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Admission to the event is $20 for adults; children 12 and younger are free; and active military personnel enjoy complimentary admission on Thursday and Friday. Those interested in attending the final day can purchase tickets here .
