From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless.
Our experience has been nothing short of exceptional.
From the moment of initial contact with Captain Yiannis, everything was seamless. This company and the entire team could not have been more helpful! We live in the USA and never had a problem with communication. The Catamaran we selected was the Lagoon 450F. It was beautiful, spacious, clean, and easy to live on for a week as we sailed to beautiful beaches.
The Ionian Islands we visited were breathtaking, especially Kefalonia – it was our favorite! Above all, the feeling of safety that Captain George ensured throughout our trip made our journey even more memorable. We can’t wait to experience it again.
So, if you’re looking for an unforgettable sailing experience around the Greek Islands with a professional company and a knowledgeable and friendly guide, look no further!

Great knowledge of the area and its history.
Excellent week of sailing in the Greek Islands with Yiannis. He has great knowledge of the area and its history. He showed us unique beaches and key sites on the islands. A memorable week of adventure, drama, and weather. A great first visit to the country of Greece and its islands. Recommend Yiannis as a skipper and guide for your trip.

The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering.
We made it back safely and happily to Paros today. Yianni showed us secluded beaches, surprising chortas and agreed to take us to santorini even though he hates sailing there! The kids enjoyed jumping off the boat and even steering it on occasion. It’s a beautiful part of the world and we’d definitely recommend exploring it.

Yannis is a superb captain
First and foremost, Yannis is a superb captain. He is a true professional and puts the comfort and safety of the guests first. We had a superb week and thanks to the knowledge of Yannis we visited hidden beaches and places that were sublime. Yannis is passionate about sailing, and we all improved our sailing skills and learned about sailing this magical part of the world.
We cannot wait to return and know that Captain Yannis is our go-to Greek master of the seas.”

The best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.
My friends and I had a terrific sailing trip with Cpt. Yiannis. We sailed islands from Athens to Milos for a week. [...] Captain Yiannis was not only an outstanding skipper, but he also is a very knowledgeable tour guide. [...] Also, he had tremendous knowledge of any island we stopped on the way and recommended the best tavernas for dining and the most interesting places to visit.
The captain was very professional and sailed extremely safe and responsible. Great guy, a great captain, thank you, Captain Yiannis!

Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht
We had a wonderful week of sailing in the Saronic Gulf end of August. Yannis gave us the ideal family yacht for this bareboat charter trip . Together with the charter company we felt us in very good hands, for all questions we had. Except in this year 2020, with these special conditions!
Thanks Yiannis.

If relaxing on golden coasts, exploring secluded islands, and partying in exclusive beach clubs sounds like your ideal holiday – a luxury yacht charter in Greece awaits! Here are our tips and top destinations for you to have your best Greek islands yacht charter experience.
Explore the Best Greek Islands to Charter a Yacht
The Ultimate Greek Adventure Awaits
Why Charter a Yacht in and Around Greece?
Greece is famous for its stunning coastal views, ancient architecture, vibrant nightlife and gorgeous natural landscape. In addition, by chartering a yacht in and around Greece, you will have the freedom to hop from island to island, and experience a new enchanting side of the country with every visit.
Best Times of Year to Charter a Yacht in Greece
We recommend a summer charter in Greece, from May to September. Also in May, June and September, it will still be warm enough to go swimming and explore the islands, and you can avoid the busy crowds of tourists that flock to Greece during July and August.
Symi is part of the Dodecanese Islands, located in the Aegean Sea. Acres of uninhabited wildlife and sparkling turquoise water that hugs the coastline makes the island an idyllic paradise.
Best Things to Do and Highlights
- Action packed adventure awaits you in Symi! Attend the electric annual Symi Festival. With concerts, theater spectacles and traditional Greek dance performances, you will experience local Greek culture like never before.
- Travel to the southwest of the island and visit the 15th-century Panormitis Monastery which overlooks the coastline. The views from the Monastery are nothing short of spectacular.
- Take a break from the action and relax and unwind at Marathounda Beach. As the location is only accessible by boat, the beach offers a private and tranquil atmosphere away from the festival crowds.
- To conclude your Symi exploration, stroll the winding streets of the eccentric town. In addition, why not sample some of the local fresh seafood? Don’t miss out on the incredible view of the town from on board your yacht. The picturesque pastel buildings built on various slopes will have you reaching for your camera!
Discover the Charm of Greece
Islands rich in heritage and culture
Skyros – Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience
If scenic views, ancient history and mile long beaches interest you, why not cruise to the stunning island of Skyros. Located in the Aegean Sea and only three hours from Athens, the island’s rugged landscape offers some of the best sights of the coast
- Skyros is known for the white square shaped buildings that populate the island. Get the best view of Skyros’ famous architecture from on board your luxury yacht.
- Hike up to Skyros Castle, situated on a 179 meter high hilltop overlooking the Aegean Sea. Ancient Greek mythology features the castle, tracing its origins to characters like Achilles and Theseus. Once at the summit, you can experience the magical sunset and watch the sky light up in vivid shades of pink, purple and orange as the sun melts into the sea.
- Also visit Molos Beach, which stretches for miles along the island’s coast. Here, you can dive into the refreshing water, snorkel with the local wildlife or catch a tan on the shore.
Located in the Ionian Sea, Lefkada’s lush forestry, rugged terrain, and serene shores make it a natural haven of beauty.
- Whether you are interested in a tranquil beach day, or a thrilling action packed adventure, Lefkada is sure to keep you satisfied. Visit Porto Katsiki, one of the most spectacular locations the island has to offer. This unique beach is located in a secluded cove at the base of dramatic white cliffs.
- If you are a thrill seeker, how about trying your hand at windsurfing in Vassiliki. Located in the south of Lefkada, the area’s high winds and waves make it a popular destination for windsurfers across the globe.
- Also make sure to have your camera at the ready when you visit the town of Nydri. Located at the top of a slope, the village is a perfect place to gaze at the beauty of the Ionian islands. Bask in the golden Greek sunshine and then cool off in the glorious turquoise waters at Egremni Beach. Lefkada is sure to provide you with a memorable experience.
Santorini is a ‘Must-Visit’ when Seeking the Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter Experience
One of the most popular Greek islands, Santorini’s activities are endless. Located in the Aegean Sea, a powerful volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC shaped the island’s jagged landscape.
- Santorini’s steep slopes offer breathtaking views of the island and the sea. By renting a quad bike, you’ll be able to easily travel throughout the island and take in the beautiful scenery. Explore the capital of Fira, the capital of Santorini, which is located opposite to the volcano. Famous for its blue-domed churches and winding alleyways, Fira is sure to leave a lasting impression
- Furthermore, you can cruise to Nea Kameni and visit the volcano that created the sloped landscape of the island. Hike through Nea Kameni Volcanic Park and pass by smoking craters. At the top, you will be able to find some of the best views of the island.
- Furthermore, you could visit the picturesque village of Oia, famous for its whitewashed buildings, synonymous with the beauty of Greece. Although small, this charming village provides you with an insight into the authentic Greek lifestyle. Sink your feet into the famous black sand of Perissa Beach, juxtaposed by the clear, glistening water.

- Firstly, Corfu’s rich history sets the island apart from its counterparts. The island was under Venetian, French and British rule before it rejoined with Greece in the 19th century. This amalgamation makes for a unique and rich cultural heritage. Stroll through the Old Town and walk through the elegant Liston Promenade.
- Experience the opulence of Achilleion Palace which was built for the impress of Austria in 1890. Feel like royalty as you stroll through the pristine palace gardens and admire the blossoming flowers and impressive statues of ancient Greek gods and goddesses.

Mykonos is a Popular Choice when Deciding the Best Greek Islands Yacht Charter
Mykonos is one of Greece’s most popular tourist destinations. Part of the Cyclades island group and located in the Aegean Sea, the island is famous for its sandy beaches and bustling nightlife
- Firstly, people usually associate Mykonos with partying and nightlife. However Mykonos is also a treasure trove of culture, heritage and history.
- Explore the windy streets of Mykonos Town, constructed on the edge of the bay. Here, you’ll discover Little Venice, where white-washed square houses with brightly colored balconies stand right at the water’s edge, reminiscent of its Italian namesake. We also suggest visiting the iconic windmills perched on the island’s hilltops.
- In addition, visit the island of Delos, which is the mythological birthplace of the Greek God Apollo. Here, you can witness remnants of Ancient Greece, through the Archaeological Museum on the island as well as ancient amphitheaters, houses and markets. - Furthemore, visit the secluded Lalaria Beach, which is only accessible by yacht. This makes it the perfect place for privacy. What better way to visit this beach than on your luxury yacht?

Ithaca is one of Greece’s hidden gems. Relatively unknown to visitors, visiting Ithaca will provide a more peaceful and authentic experience compared to Greece’s more popular islands.
- With miles and miles of lush forestry, Ithaca is the perfect destination for nature lovers. Explore the island on foot and hike through its forests. Each path will lead you to something new, from small churches to hidden bays.
- Additionally, you could hike up to the Monastery of Panagia Kathariotissa, located at the highest point of the island. The incredible views of the Ionian Sea from the top will be well worth the exercise. With the incredible wildlife of the island, it is no wonder this natural paradise is the home of the fictional hero Odysessus in Homer’s Odyssey.
- Lastly, after a long day of hiking, why not lay out on the soft sand of Agios Ioannis Beach. Or why not have an aperitif at one of the beach bars? Stroll around the charming town of Kiona and enjoy some fresh seafood in one of the local restaurants.

Luxury yacht charter in Greece and the Greek Islands
A luxury yacht charter in Greece is the ultimate island-hopping adventure. The chic Cyclades isles of Mykonos and Santorini boast sugar cube villages and attract throngs of well-heeled partygoers, while in the north Aegean Sea , the Sporades have the well-founded monicker of the ‘emeralds of the Aegean’ -and offer exquisite anchorages framed by lush slopes.
The lesser-known but equally magical Saronic islands are conveniently located close to Athens while on the country’s west coast the verdant Ionian islands extend to the southern tip of the Peloponnese with maquis-dotted hills and bright turquoise bays. To the east the Dodecanese unfurl awash with culture and beguiling bays and make an ideal jumping off point for exploring the exotic Turkish coast.
Greece yacht season and weather
Greece has an enviably long season, with blue skies from May to mid-October and summer temperatures averaging 26°C to 30°C. During July and August, the hotspots of Mykonos and Santorini are at their most dazzling and lively. Charter guests in search of a more relaxed vibe should visit in May, September and October, when cruising grounds are quieter and temperatures still delightfully warm.
The two prevailing winds in Greece are the meltemi, which begins in May and reaches its peak around July and August, and the south-easterly sirocco, which is more prevalent during the winter months.
The Cyclades and Aegean islands can experience strong meltemi winds in July and August. Charters in the Aegean are less likely to be affected by the meltemi in May and June and September and October. Though the meltemi blows into the Sporades (usually strongest in August) the islands have good shelter and short hops between islands.
Charters in the Saronic islands and southern Peloponnese are more sheltered from the meltemi. On the west coast, the Ionian islands have predictable wind patterns, making for relaxed cruising. Sheltered from the meltemi, the Ionian can be hot during the peak summer months, as it does not do not benefit from the cooling breezes of the meltemi.
The eastern Mediterranean has a very small tidal range, at one to two feet.
Greece yacht charter itineraries
Athens has several marinas, with Zea Marina accommodating yachts up to 150m. In the Ionian, Lefkas Marina has berths for yachts up to 45 metres and Gouvia Marina in Corfu has berths up to 60 metres. Skiathos Marina accommodates yachts up to 60 metres and Rhodes Marina has moorings for craft up to 120 metres.
The undeniable allure of any Greek charter, however, is the plethora of serene and restful coves, ideal for simply dropping down the hook.
The sheltered islands of the Saronic Gulf , including Poros and unforgettable Hydra, unfurl like stepping stones from Athens, and are sprinkled with Byzantine castles, charming harbours, ancient towns and stunning anchorages.
The Cyclades, considered by many to be the archetypal Greek islands, are home to some of Greece’s top superyacht destinations. Thira (more commonly known as Santorini) is one of the most southerly of the Cyclades, lying approximately 150 nautical miles south-east of Athens, while off-the-beaten track Kea, elegant Syros, and the exclusive Ibiza of Greece, Mykonos , are not to be missed.
Immortalised in Greek legend, the southern peninsula of the Peloponnese lies closer to Athens than much-loved Mykonos, and is a popular haven with Greek royals. Its wild, natural beauty, countless bays and bountiful history combines with lots of outdoor adventure.
Strewn like a necklace of blue-green jewels across the north-western Aegean Sea, the Sporades’ four main inhabited islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos and Skyros are resplendent with glittering coves ripe for exploration by yacht.
On the west coast of Greece, the seven main islands of the Ionian – Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Meganisi, Ithaca, Kefalonia, and Zakynthos (Zante) – boast some of the best beaches in Greece . Depart from Corfu to Antipaxos (30 nautical miles) and on to Lefkadas (30 nautical miles), the tranquil coves of Meganisi (10 nautical miles), the ancient paradise of Ithaca (10 nautical miles), the pristine shores of Kefalonia (20 nautical miles) and spellbinding Zykynthos (20 nautical miles).
The much-mythologised Dodecanese islands lie a short cruise from the south-west coast of Turkey and are sprinkled with Byzantine churches, ancient ruins, and restful islets. In addition to the hubs of Rhodes and Kos, Leros and Pserimos offer an off-the-beaten-track feel.
Greece by superyacht
Getting to greece.
Commercial and private jets operate at Athens airport, Santorini (Thira) International airport, Skiathos Island airport, Mykonos airport, Corfu International Airport, Rhodes International. For the Dodecanese, Kos Ippokratis Airport and Rhodes International airport are best located.
Typical routes for charters include crossing from the western Med and cruising to the Greek islands from Turkey’s east coast.
Legal requirements
Previous regulations that prohibited yachts not in possession of a Greek commercial licence from commencing and ending charters in Greek waters are no longer applicable.
However, in order to operate as a charter vessel in Greece, all yachts must have booked a minimum of 75 days worth of charters over the span of three years. The number of days necessary to qualify as a charter yacht is reduced depending on the age of the vessel.

Skippered yacht charter greece.
Sailing holidays on a yacht rental is not just for sailors. It is for everyone seeking something more than the sea, the sun, and a sunbed. We provide professionally trained skippers for those who wish to rent a yacht and enjoy relaxing sailing holidays in Greece or those who wish to get involved and learn the ropes and the sails during a skippered yacht charter in Greece. After all, learning how to sail is easy. Depending on crew eagerness, our skipper will not only show how to navigate but will also provide firsthand knowledge of the Greek island destinations.
- need more experience and more confidence to take a yacht rental on their own
- want to get familiar with the Greek waters (first time to Greece)
- need a hand because no other in their crew may provide sufficient help
- need a guide to be with them and show the best coves and secluded bays for moorage and/or swimming, as well as the best places in seaside villages to eat and drink
- want to relax and enjoy leaving the helm and sails in the hands of someone who can be trusted
Our skippers are hospitable, friendly, discrete and knowledgeable about every destination and you will discuss together your preferences and plan your route. Choosing a skippered yacht charter, you also hire the skipper who will take care of the yacht for you and will ensure that you get the most out of your sailing holidays in Greece. When you select from our yachts for rent, keep in mind that you have to provide a cabin or berth in cabin for your skipper as he is obliged to sleep on board. Apart from the skipper’s fee, you have to also provide his meals either from the meals you prepare on board or at an eating place ashore. The skipper’s fee, regardless of the season and the people on board, is €140 to €190 depending on the yacht rental. You may wish to hire also a cook/hostess. The fee per day is generally 10 euro less than the skipper’s and you need to provide berth and meals as for the skipper. The running expenses for a skippered yacht charter are just like those of a bareboat charter (fuel, gas, water, meals, port/marina fees, etc.), plus the costs for the hired crew as above. Although some of our yacht rentals are offered only skippered (yacht charter prices include skipper’s fee), you may choose any of our bareboat charter yachts fitting your needs and let us know if you wish to have a skipper (select the check-box on the form of the yacht rental booking request).
The Greek unspoiled coastline and offshore islands have so many spectacular spots to visit that it is a natural start to any itinerary. Skippered yacht charter in Greece is all about your own private cruise where you can plan your own itinerary and visit exactly the places and attractions you want, from some of the world’s few truly iconic destinations to serene coves that are not accessible by land.

Best time to visit Greece
Best time to charter to greece.
Greece’s allure as a yacht charter destination lies in its stunning islands, azure waters, and climate. To truly make the most of your sailing experience, it’s essential to understand the nuances of Greece’s seasonal variations.
Peak Season (May to September):
This period, especially July and August, marks the high season in Greece. The weather is at its finest: warm temperatures, clear blue skies, and consistent sailing winds, especially in the Cyclades. It’s an excellent time for sun-seekers, with long daylight hours and warm waters for swimming and snorkeling.
However, being the most popular months, marinas and popular spots like Mykonos and Santorini can be crowded. While this vibrant atmosphere can entice many, it can also mean higher prices for island services and accommodations.
Shoulder Seasons (April-May and September-October):
The months flanking the peak season are equally delightful, offering a balanced blend of good weather and relatively fewer crowds. The mild and pleasant temperatures and the sea remains warm enough for water activities.
Those who seek a more tranquil experience often favor this period, with easier mooring options and less bustling ports. Plus, many cultural events and local festivals happen during these months, immersing visitors in authentic Greek culture.
Off-Peak Season (November to March):
Greece’s winter is milder than many European countries, but the colder sea temperatures and unpredictable weather can make it less ideal for sailing. However, this time is perfect for those who wish to explore Greece’s historical and cultural landmarks without the distraction of larger tourist crowds. The main cities, like Athens and Thessaloniki, have a unique charm during these months, with local life taking center stage.
As noted, during the off-peak season, many island amenities, accommodations, and transport options operate on reduced schedules or might be closed. If chartering during this time, ensure to plan your itinerary and provisions meticulously.
In summary, while the peak season offers the quintessential sunny Greek experience, the shoulder and off-peak seasons have their unique charms. Your decision should align with your preferences, whether it’s bustling beach parties, serene sunsets, or cultural explorations.
More Resources About Greece

12 Reasons the Greek Islands Are a Sailor’s Paradise
Posted: May 14, 2024 | Last updated: May 14, 2024
Despite more than 30 million people visiting Greece annually, only some people consider sailing around the islands, which is a shame considering how much it offers. Sailing in Greece is a memorable experience that deserves to sit at the top of your list of things to do before you die.
The Greek islands are famous for their ancient history, natural beauty, turquoise waters, and vibrant seaside towns, and sailing allows you to see it all while traveling in unparalleled luxury. To show you what sailing in the Greek islands has to offer, here’s a list of 12 reasons the Greek islands are a sailor’s paradise.
Variety of Islands to Explore
Arguably, the most captivating aspect of sailing in the Greek islands is the sheer volume of islands to explore. With more than 6,000 islands and islets in the Aegean Sea to visit, it’s almost as if the term island hopping was created for the Greek islands. From iconic islands such as Santorini and Crete to hidden gems like Folegandros and Tilos, the Greek islands have it all.
What makes things even better is that every island has a unique charm. On some islands, you can visit historical landmarks , while on others, you’ll likely spend most of your time relaxing on the beach or snorkeling in the sea.

Close Together Islands
Aside from having thousands of islands and islets to visit, another advantage of sailing around the Greek islands is that most islands are close together. Usually, sailing from one island to the next doesn’t take very long, so you don’t always have to have long days at sea.
Many of Greece’s islands are within two to five nautical miles (3.7 to 9.26 kilometers) of one another. Therefore, on a leisurely 20 nautical-mile (37-kilometer) sailing day, you’ll have plenty of options for finding somewhere to stop, stay the night, or explore. Even on longer sailing days, it’s uncommon that you won’t come across places to visit during your journey.

Perfect Sailing Conditions
Every sailor dreams of perfect sailing conditions, which can’t always be guaranteed. However, the Greek islands are as close to perfection as things get. Greece offers ideal sailing conditions throughout the year. You can expect wall-to-wall sunshine, a pleasant wind that’s not too weak or too strong, calm waters, and little to no rain.
Better still, Greece offers mild to hot temperatures almost all year. August is the hottest month in the Greek islands, with temperatures regularly hitting 84°F (29°C). Meanwhile, January is usually the coldest month, but temperatures rarely drop below 50°F (10°C). These conditions make it much easier to explore more islands, spend more time on the water, and enjoy a hassle-free experience.

Hidden Gems
Finding hidden gems is one of the best things about exploring the Greek islands on a sailing trip. While sticking to the most popular places can be tempting, the most authentic Greek experiences can be found on smaller, lesser-known islands. Unfortunately, visiting these lesser-known islands isn’t as easy if you don’t sail around the islands, which is why sailing is recommended.
Some of the best-hidden gems in the Greek islands include Ikaria, Alonnisos, Milos, and Kefalonia. These islands offer authentic Greek vibes, sunshine, rich culture, and pristine coastlines, perfect for boat exploration.

Breathtaking Scenery and Wildlife
Nestled in the heart of the Mediterranean, Greece and its islands boast some of the most impressive coastal landscapes in the world. Sailing from one island to another offers sailors a front-row seat to the Aegean Sea’s unparalleled beauty. Sailors can expect rugged volcanic landscapes , long sandy beaches, turquoise waters, traditional white-washed houses, and much more.
Better still, the Aegean Sea is home to an underwater world filled with diverse wildlife. On a sailing trip in the Greek islands, sailors often spot dolphins, whales, and stingrays. Whale sightings have also been spotted from the shoreline. With this in mind, it’s a good idea to pack your snorkeling gear and a pair of binoculars.

Fascinating Historical Sites
Greece is a museum of ancient mythology and history. As a result, you’ll likely come across historic landmarks , ancient towns, and unique myths almost everywhere you sail in the Greek islands. Sailing from one historic location to another allows sailors to immerse themselves in Greek culture.
Some of the most iconic historical sites sailors can visit include the archaeological site of Knossos, famed for the myth of the Minotaur, the sacred island of Delos and its UNESCO World Heritage Site , and Rhodes Old Town . Each island has a story to tell, and sailing provides an excellent insight into the region’s historical wonders.

Delicious Food and Drink
Of course, another advantage of sailing in the Greek Islands is the incredible food and drink. No sailing adventure is complete without local cuisine, and Greece has some of the best food and drink in the world. Picture it now: dropping anchor at a colorful Greek island after a day of sailing, finding a traditional taverna, and tucking into a beautiful Mediterranean dinner.
We don’t know about you, but it doesn’t get much better! While traditional cuisine can be found on most Greek islands, there’s something special about finding it on a smaller island, where the food has likely been provided by local producers. Foods you should try in Greece include souvlaki, moussaka, and fresh seafood, but keep in mind that each island has its own specialties as well.

Excellent Sailing Infrastructure
According to Yacht Rent , people have been sailing in Greece since the Minoan age, almost 4,000 years ago. The ancient Greeks worshiped the gods of wind and sea, with sailing routes becoming essential to trade across the islands. Ever since, sailing has been a part of everyday life in the Greek islands, so unsurprisingly, the sailing infrastructure across the Aegean Sea is excellent.
Almost all the larger Greek islands have vast harbors and quays where sailors can drop anchor. However, sailing is so popular that even smaller islands with few villages and smaller populations also have well-built ports and harbors. As a result, sailors very rarely need help finding somewhere to drop anchor.

Experienced Charter Companies
Similarly, the popularity of sailing in the Greek islands has led to a thriving charter industry. Since the early 1960s, sailing vacations in Greece have only increased in popularity, and with that comes more charter companies with a wealth of experience. As such, it’s now incredibly easy for wannabe sailors to find an experienced charter company that will take them around the islands.
Better yet, with so many experienced charter companies to choose from, sailing enthusiasts have more variety when it comes to choosing a charter that suits them. They can choose between smaller, more traditional boats, large modern sailing yachts, catamarans, and more.

Another factor that helps make the Greek islands a sailor’s paradise is the ability to travel with more freedom. Tying in nicely to having 6,000+ islands and islets to explore and islands in close proximity, sailing in the Greek islands offers you the freedom to plan your own itinerary and travel at your own pace.
Unlike land-based travel, you’re not confined to specific routes. Instead, you can chart a course based on your passions and preferences. Whether you seek the most iconic attractions , secluded coves, or lively nightlife , you can sail wherever you please. Better yet, you aren’t governed by flight times and traffic delays like you are with more conventional modes of travel.

Reasonable Prices
It isn’t an exaggeration to say that Greece is one of the cheapest sailing destinations in Europe. In fact, according to Sunsail , you won’t find a cheaper sailing destination anywhere in Europe. In Greece, everything from the boat you charter and the marinas where you dock to prices at restaurants and grocery essentials are more affordable than in other destinations.
Of course, prices vary depending on where you decide to moor and the type of boat you choose to charter, but that’s the beauty of it. The Greek islands offer sailing trips suited to everyone. If you dream of traveling on a luxury yacht, that’s great; if not, choose a smaller, less expensive charter.

A Burgess charter to Seychelles
Published 14 May 2024
With white sand beaches fringed with giant boulders and palm trees, the Seychelles is a paradise. Located in the Indian Ocean off East Africa, the Seychelles has more than 100 islands to explore by charter yacht.
In fact, these islands have hosted some of the world's largest and most famous superyachts in recent years. A Seychelles yacht charter offers the ultimate tropical experience. From hiking to scenic viewpoints, to diving in crystal-clear waters and idyllic beaches, we explore the top 10 things to do on a luxury yacht charter in the Seychelles.
The ideal island-hopping trio
Island hopping in the Seychelles is the best way to get around this picturesque archipelago. Every stop offers something special, be it serene beaches or lively markets bursting with spices and local crafts. But for an immersion in the natural side of the Seychelles from its beaches to forests and distinct biodiversity and excellent snorkelling - the islands of Curieuse, Cousin and St Pierre are the ideal island-hopping trio.
The island of Curieuse wows with beaches framed by enormous granite boulders and kissed by calm turquoise waters. Along with giant boulders, the island is home to giant tortoises. More than 200 tortoises can be seen at the The Curieuse Marine National Park, a protected park on the island where you can interact with these gentle giants. There’s plenty more to explore here as well. From Anse St Jose beach, embark on a winding trail that leads up through dense mangrove forests, passing by the crumbling creole architecture of ruins from a former colony. Then in the afternoon, take to the sea to explore the Coral Garden or Pointe Rouge — a must for divers and snorkelers.
Cousin Island
Nature lovers and bird watchers should flock to Cousin Island, which since 1998 has been managed as a protected nature reserve by Nature Seychelles. Take part in a guided tour of the island, led by one of the reserves wardens who will give you an insider’s look into Cousin’s unique biodiversity. The Seychelles has nearly a dozen bird species that you’ll only find on these islands, and five them can be spotted on Cousin Island. Look for the tiny Seychelles sunbird or the resplendent blue plumage and red face of the Seychelles blue fruit dove.
Island hopping further, you’ll arrive at St Pierre Island. This small, uninhabited island is encircled by ridge-like vertical boulders. You are t allowed to land on the island, but the real reason for being here is what’s below the surface. The rocky coast of the island make it a popular snorkelling spot with the chance to swim among schools of tropical fish, from bright blue tang to neon yellow-striped surgeonfish.
Beach escapes and hidden gems
You can’t think Seychelles without picturing an idyllic beach. Even in an island nation full of wondrous beaches, there are a few that really stand out and deserve a special mention...
Anse Source d’Argent
Anse Source d’Argent on La Digue island in the Seychelles is one of the most-photographed beaches in the world, and it’s easy to see why. Here you’ll find a long stretch of powder-fine sand scattered with the Seychelles iconic boulders and shaded by swaying coconut palms. Accessible by tender, on a private yacht charter in the Seychelles your crew can drop you off to explore this beach.
Anse Georgette
Only accessible by boat or by hiking the Mont Plaisir to Anse Goergette Nature Trail, Anse Georgette is one of the Seychelles' truly untouched beaches. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, you can bask on the beach, swim in the clear-blue waters or even hike up through lush vegetation on the surrounding hillsides to enjoy a lofty vista of the beach below - and admire your Seychelles yacht rental moored in the sea offshore.
Anse Lazio on the island of Praslin has been dubbed one of the best beaches in the Seychelles, thanks to its perfect combination of white-sand beaches and bright blue water. On this long arc of beach, the sea is usually calm — it’s a lovely and safe place for people of all ages to swim, making it ideal for families enjoying a luxury yacht charter in the Seychelles.
Another beach whose beauty you need to earn in order to enjoy. Anse Coscos on the eastern show of La Digue can only be reached on a 30-minute trek through the jungle to reach its pristine shores. Of course, the work-around is arriving by tender, as long as the weather conditions allow. Time your visit right, and you might be the only souls exploring this wild beach
Hikes with scenic views
Although the Seychelles are known for its captivating beaches, visitors should look beyond the coastline as well. Especially those who enjoy immersion in nature, hiking or simply staying fit. With roads primarily skirting the islands, true exploration entails embarking on a nature hike. Hire a knowledgeable guide who can offer insights into the island's unique wildlife and flora along the way.
Copolia Trail
For experienced hikers seeking a challenge, the Copolia Nature Trail is a three-hour round-trip hike delving deep into the heart Morne Seychellois National Park. You will navigate around boulders, weave through dense ironwood forests and even ascend a ladder at one point. Keep an eye out for fascinating species, such as carnivorous pitcher plants, wild vanilla orchids and the Seychelles warbler. The hike rewards you with a stunning viewpoint, offering panoramic vistas of Victoria, Eden Island and Sainte Anne Marine Park sprawled below.
Morne Blanc
This short yet challenging hike leads you to a viewpoint taking in views from its 218m elevation gain. The start of the trail winds through a former tea plantation ensconced in low-land forests that feel more like a botanical garden adorned in a wide array of endemic plants. The trail rises steeply, giving you a continuous vertical climb until you reach the summit, where you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view stretching from Port Launay to Anse La Mouche.
Takamaka Beach
A low-key yet beautiful hike in the Seychelles is the route from Takamaka Beach to Rock Pool. This fairly easy route follows a 2.3 km out-and-back trail starting near Pointe Au Sel, Au Cap. It typically takes around 35 minutes to finish. Due to its popularity, expect to encounter fellow hikers along the way. At the end you’ll find a tempting rock pool, but it’s just to admire its beauty as swimming in here isn’t recommended.
Wine and dine
While your the chef on board your Seychelles yacht charter will serve up fare that’s so tantalising you might never feel the need to leave the yacht, you want to dine onshore as well to experience the local cuisine and foodie scene. The restaurants here offer everything from traditional dishes to fine dining experiences, often complemented by stunning scenic vistas.
Marie Antoinette
To experience authentic Seychellois creole cuisine, visit Marine Antoinette restaurant on Mahe Island. Housed in a sprawling wood-and-iron mansion that stands as a testament to bygone eras, Marine Antoinettes is the oldest restaurant in the Seychelles. Fragrant curry scents drift through the air vibrant bird of paradise flowers and lace tablecloths adorn the pretty open-air dining spaces.
Del Place
Set on the west coast of Mahe in Port-Glaud, Del Place serves up scenic views along with a chic atmosphere. With tables set over the water’s edge, this waterfront restaurant is ideal for romantic meals or for more lively evenings out on the weekend. Local and seasonal ingredients are showcased in culturally inspired dishes and fresh seafood.
Le Perle Noire
Another favourite Mahe eatery is Le Perle Noire. As the story goes, 40 years ago an Italian journalist from Mahe visited the Seychelles and was so captivated by the islands that he decided to put down roots and open up a restaurant. Renowned for its exceptional cuisine and top-notch service, the restaurant offers an array of Mediterranean and fresh seafood dishes — the lobster pasta is one to try. With an extensive wine selection and an ambiance that exudes elegance, it's a fine dining destination well worth a visit.
Takamaka Rum Distillery
More than merely a rum-maker, this distillery set on a historical heritage site also has a museum and medicinal garden . You might also meet the tortoises, aptly named Taka and Maka. Visitors are welcome to take a tour and learn how the rum is made and take part in a tasting experience. Don ’ t forget to buy a few bottles to take back on board your luxury yacht.
Tour one of the world's smallest cities
The seat of government for the Seychelles, you might never guess Victoria is a capital city. But the sweet and rather sleepy little town of Victoria is actually the smallest capital city in the world. Home to one-third of the country’s population, the the petite capital city offers a charming glimpse into the daily lives of Seychellois and their vibrant Creole culture. Soak it all in the National Museum of History or wander through the bustling Sir Selwyn Selwyn-Clarke Market and pay a visit to the well-manicured botanical gardens, brimming in bird song and vibrant tropical plants.
Visit the world's smallest national park
Covering only nine hectares, Moyenne Island is the world's smallest National Park. Managed by the Moyenne Foundation, it resides within the St. Anne Marine National Park and stands as the sole island in the group accessible to day visitors. Despite its small stature, Moyenne Island is full of wonders to explore. Once the property of Brendon Grimshaw, a British newspaper editor, this tiny corner of the Seychelles underwent a remarkable transformation. Acquiring the island in the early 1960s, Grimshaw revived the previously barren terrain. His efforts included planting thousands of trees, reintroducing birds and nurturing a thriving population of giant tortoises, ultimately restoring the island to a flourishing ecosystem.
Dive in clear waters
For divers on board, a Seychelles yacht charter is the ultimate dive destination. From swimming with manta rays to whale sharks, both scuba divers and snorkellers will find beautiful sites in these islands. In the Inner Islands of Mahe, La Digue and Praslin you can find some good sites, but thanks to travelling by yacht you can easily be whisked away to the the Outer Islands of the Seychelles, from Desroches all the way out to Aldabra, where you can find some truly spectacular and less-visited dive sites.
The main island in the Amirante Islands, Desroches, is home to pristine diving sites. Divers can enjoy good conditions with clear visibility to take in a view of the healthy coral reefs, colourful fish and varied marine life that live below the water’s surface. It’s likely you’ll spot turtles, sharks, and eagle rays year-round, while manta rays present themselves September to May.
The most remote Outer Islands of the Seychelles, the Aldabra Group is a largely unexplored area that has some of the most magnificent diving you can find. Situated approximately 1,000 kilometers from the Seychelles' main island of Mahe, the Aldabra Group was referred to by Sir David Attenborough as ‘the loneliest of islands.’ Lonely? Perhaps. But worth the visit, especially by charter yacht? Definitely. These isolated islets and atolls lie far from shipping routes and remain largely cut off from the world and offer unparalleled diving adventures. November to April is the best time to see sharks, eagle rays, turtles and enjoy wall dives here.
Walk with Giant Tortoises
Beyond the island of Curieuse, another place to meet giant tortoises in the Seychelles is Bird Island. Along with the varied bird life that earns this island its moniker, there are up to two-dozen tortoises who call this place home. Approximately 100 kilometers north of Seychelles’ main island of Mahé, Bird Island is where you can spot giant tortoises freely roaming.
These remarkable creatures, known to live up to 150 years, can surprisingly move swiftly if inclined. Legend has it that these fascinating tortoises have colonised numerous Seychellois islands by drifting across the ocean for months, enduring without sustenance until reaching land and determining their fate.
