The MYS: the place to Sea

Created in 1991 by French entrepreneur Maurice Cohen, the MYS displays around one hundred unique and exceptional superyachts constructed by the world’s foremost shipbuilders. Along the docks where these prestigious vessels are moored, visitors will find a host of companies, shipbrokers, and other important yachting industry stakeholders.

The Monaco Yacht Show is globally renowned for the exceptional quality and impressive size of its superyachts. Of the hundred or so on display every year, around forty are being unveiled for the first time in their worldwide debut. The average length of the vessels is 50 metres, with some mega yachts exceeding 100 metres.

In recent years, the MYS has expanded its offering to include ultra-high end markets intrinsically linked to the exclusive world of superyachting, featuring luxury goods, cars and motorcycles, helicopters, and private jet constructors, amid the glitz and glamour of the Principality of Monaco.

Not to be missed...

At nightfall, the superyachts come alive in a different atmosphere, offering a spectacular illuminated display of a thousand lights.

Yachts in Hercule Harbour in Monaco

The Monaco Yacht Show is a four-day event that takes place each year in Monaco’s deepwater port, Port Hercules, and is Europe’s biggest in-water display of superyachts of over 20 metres long. At any time of the year, impressive yachts are moored in the principality’s harbour, but this annual trade show really does take luxury yachting to a whole new level.

125 one-off superyachts feature in the monaco boat show.

The Monaco Yacht Show was started in 1991 by the French entrepreneur Maurice Cohen and was most recently acquired by British event organiser Informa in 2005. Today, the show has grown to curate an exhibition of 125 superyachts, welcoming over 550 companies from the yachting industry and unveiling 45 new launches in a worldwide premiere.

How to be dazzled by the Monaco yachts

The Monaco Yacht Show is taking place from September 26-29 in 2018. There are a couple of different passes that visitors can buy for visiting the show. Firstly, The Daily Pass is €280 and valid for one day of your choice during the show. It gives visitors access to all the exhibition spaces but doesn’t include access to the yachts themselves.

The Professional Pass is for professionals of the nautical and luxury markets and costs a cool €950, while the Sapphire Experience doesn’t come with a provided price tag, which gives you an idea of the kind of exclusive visit it is. It is reserved for future superyacht charterers or owners and more details and contact information are available on the event’s website .

Something for car lovers, too

In 2016, the Monaco Yacht Show introduced Car Deck, an exhibition space within the boat show to showcase luxury cars. Manufacturers have included Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Aston Martin and more. Take a look at the yacht show’s layout for information on entrances, lounges, refreshment areas and more.

Arrive by helicopter

In for a penny, in for a pound. Unsurprisingly, one of the most popular ways to travel to Monaco is by helicopter, which could be just what you’re looking for if planning an exclusive trip to the Monaco Yacht Show. Monacair links the Nice airport to Monaco in just seven minutes. In true Monaco fashion, seven minutes will set you back €130!

Monaco’s train station connects with Nice’s main station, too, which provides a slightly more affordable option and of course, you can drive to the principality, as long as the underground parking systems don’t put you off.

Monaco Yacht Show: 2024 Guide

This is a complete guide to the 2024 Monaco Yacht Show, written by a Monaco resident who attends every year. This insider guide includes the locations, parties, ticketing, exhibitors, and insider tips.

Monaco Yacht Show: 2024 Guide - monaco travel yachts 1

The Monaco Yacht Show is the world’s leading yacht show. Held on the Mediterranean seaside in Port Hercule, Monaco , it is the largest in-water display of large yachts. An estimated 30,000 people come to see the more than €4.3 billion worth of yachts displayed in the port.

It is known as THE chicest way for billionaires to celebrate the end of summer. The biggest, newest, most innovative and most expensive yachts will be on display in this new edition of the Monaco Yacht Show.

The many superyachts are the center of attraction, but there will also be so much more on offer for the show’s opulent observers. As the quintessential playground for the rich, Monaco Yacht Show continues to impress its billionaire patrons, ensuring their return year after year.

There will always be super speedboats, helicopters, personal submarines, limousines, and luxury cars to see. Hotels, restaurants, and the Casino will also cater to the epicurean needs of the guests.

Monaco Yacht Show: 2024 Guide - guide monaco yacht show 1

The ‘Car Deck’ for the exhibits of classic and customized vehicles will display models of the best machinery for connoisseurs’ delight. The ‘Starboard’ is the main exhibition lounge of companies that offer products and services related to the superyacht lifestyle: destinations, luxury products, and arts. Both will be on Quai Antoine 1er.

Monaco Yacht Show Awards

VIP guests and yachting social elites will be invited to attend the Monaco Yacht Show Superyacht Awards , along with the show’s partners, yachting business top-players, and select media. The awards will be held at the Monaco Yacht Club and attendance is exclusively by personal invitation. The awards section of the evening lasts about 20 minutes, and the rest of the evening is a lively cocktail party with a DJ, food and open bar.

A panel of respectable yachting journalists will select the winners of the following categories:

  • The MYS/Rina Award
  • (Interiors) The MYS Interior Design Award
  • (Exteriors) The MYS Exterior Design Award
  • The MYS Finest New Superyacht Award

Monaco Yacht Summit

Yachting clients will also have a chance for an informative panel discussion regarding topics in superyachting, insights from industry experts and professionals in the Monaco Yacht Summit.

Monaco Yacht Show: 2024 Guide - monaco yacht show guide1

The event is exclusively reserved for yacht owners and charterers (and want to enhance their knowledge), prospective end-user clients and their representatives, and private wealth managers.

The Monaco Yacht Summit is held the day before the Yacht Show officially starts, at the Monaco Yacht Club . Attendance is based on pre-qualification by emailing [email protected]

Badges for the Monaco Yacht Show

In order to make the overall experience clearer to visitors and professionals, a three-category system is used. Discover badges are for yacht clients; Advise badges are for their advisors and consultants, and Connect badges are for trade visitors. The badges will show the profile of each visitor so that the right people can connect on sight. Buyers can therefore identify designers and builders at a glance, whilst their captains and reps can readily find equipment manufacturers, for example.

But for those with regular day passes to the show, you’ll need an appointment and be able to pass a check by the yacht representative to make sure you’re a serious potential buyer or charter customer.

Sapphire VIP Experience

If you’re in the market to buy a yacht and looking for more personalized experiences, ‘ Sapphire Experience ’ VIP tickets include exclusive activities at both the show and in Monaco for superyacht owners, charterers, and potential clients. VIP guests also have access to special courtesy cars provided by the Monaco Yacht Show to drive them around the city during their stay.

Getting your hands on these tickets comes with a premium price tag and you’ll need to get approved — about 80% of applicants for the Sapphire Experience are rejected. The VIP experience is limited to 200 people and only serious yacht-buyers are able to purchase these coveted passes.

Yacht Tours and Parties

Even those who’ve bought tickets won’t be allowed to tour many of the most exclusive yachts, nor attend the evening yacht parties, without being invited by the yacht companies and brokers. If you’re in the market for a yacht, make sure to view the exhibitor list and arrange tours of your favorite yachts in advance.

The Monaco Yacht Show 2024 is upon us, and it’s time for those with an eye for luxury yachts, cars and helicopters to prepare for the event of the year. But there’s more to it than “just” superyachts for sale and charter. It’s also a time to let loose and rub shoulders with fellow luxury travellers, socialites – maybe even a celebrity or two! Dates have been set for the 25th to the 28th of September, so if you haven’t booked yet you may need to exert more than a little influence to get VIP passes and accommodation.

Thinking of buying a yacht? It could be the signal that gets top yacht builders to sit up, take note, and smooth your path to an unforgettable experience this year. Notably, the most coveted passes are extended to VIP clients with a yacht-building project underway. If your eleventh-hour attempt fails, there’s always 2025 to plan for. The Monaco Yacht Show is always in the last week of September, and with the design, building, and fitting out of your very own yacht in progress, you’re sure to get royal treatment.

Whether you’re considering squeezing in a visit to say goodbye to Summer or are taking the long view and are planning for next year’s show, this article acts as your guide. Find out about the different types of passes you can get, the top places to stay, and the many things to see and do when you attend the world’s most prestigious yachting event.

Can anyone go to the Monaco Yacht Show?

The Monaco Yacht Show is a very exclusive event. In theory, anyone can get visitor passes, but the cost ensures that it’s only attended by society’s creme de la creme. VIP Sapphire Experience passes, on the other hand, are only granted to about 200 people out of an estimated 30,000 attendees. Here’s what you need to know:

Visitor passes

Regular visitor passes give you access to the exhibition areas and don’t include yacht tours, dockside access or official invitations to parties and events. The first day of the event is not open to people with visitor passes. Your attendance dates are from the 26th to the 28th of September 2024.

A one-day pass costs 600 Euros; a two-day pass costs 1020 Euros; and the full three days cost 1620 Euros. Saturday the 28th is only open to three-day pass holders and you can expect a less crowded experience on the day. However, don’t expect to get a pass at the gate, as you can only buy passes online .

Sapphire Experience Passes

Few things more clearly mark you as one of the yachting elite than being approved for a Monaco Yacht Show Sapphire Experience pass. It’s intended for yacht designers, buyers, and the upper echelon of charter customers.

To get a Sapphire pass, you must apply to the organisers of the Monaco Yacht Show in person, motivating why they should offer you VIP access. Alternatively, a superyacht company that sees you as a valuable customer may be able to arrange invitations.

A Sapphire Experience pass qualifies you for the ultimate in yacht show luxury. Yacht tours, parties, gala events and cocktail evenings on the world’s most luxurious yachts are all part of the excitement. Expect a full, individually tailored program packed with exclusive events.

Where to Stay For the Monaco Yacht Show

What could be more appropriate than to charter a yacht for your stay during the Monaco Yacht Show? Check where it will be berthed, what services and amenities are offered, and arrange for a little cruising during your stay.

Alternatively, Monaco’s best hotels offer their own array of sumptuous luxuries and will place you at the heart of the nightlife while still being conveniently close to the yacht show. To whet your appetite, we’ve chosen a few of the top options.

Hotel Hermitage Monte-Carlo

One of the world’s most famous hotels, a stay here is an unforgettable experience all of its own. The decor is a unique blend of the classic and contemporary that reflects the building’s gracious Belle Époque origins. Panoramic bay views, superb service, and a convenient location near the world-famous Casino de Monte-Carlo combine to make this one of your top choices.

  • Distance from airport: 34 km
  • Approximate price per night: $600 to $1,300 (standard rooms)

Hotel Metropole Monte-Carlo

As renowned as the Hermitage, the Metropole features lavish suites, a penthouse, and standard rooms, all beautifully decorated in a tasteful combination of Mediterranean and antique styles. You’ll be near all the best attractions, including the Monaco Yacht Show.

  • Distance from airport: 31.5 km
  • Approximate price per night: Starting at $777

Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort

For something a little more modern with so many amenities that you hardly need to step out, the Monte-Carlo Bay Hotel and Resort is an excellent choice. Between your forays to the yacht show, lounge beside the artificial lagoon and enjoy an extravagant evening at the in-house casino.

  • Distance from airport: 37 km
  • Approximate price per night:  $400 to $3,712

Events and activities during the Monaco Yacht Show

The yacht show itself is the main event, and seeing the world’s most gorgeous superyachts and sailing yachts is a thrill, even if you don’t have a Sapphire pass that allows you access to the dockside and the boats themselves. Shopping for ideas for your very own superyacht? This is your chance to scope out what’s available so that you can open negotiations with the world’s most acclaimed yacht designers. 2025 may yet see you arriving at the show as a VIP: courted, wined, dined, and invited to all the most prestigious events.

There’s also an Adventure Area featuring exciting, top-of-the-line watercraft like high-tech jet skis, submersibles, and tenders. Also on display are helicopters and some of the most luxurious cars the world has to offer – truly an unforgettable spectacle that will earn bragging rights amongst your peers.

You might also be inspired by some of the other exhibits that are less high-profile but innovative nonetheless. For example, the sustainability area is full of inspiring ideas that will help yacht owners to enjoy their luxuries while minimising environmental impacts. Perhaps you’ll see some concepts you’d like your own yacht to feature. While you’re looking at exhibits, take advantage of the opportunity to meet yacht designers – especially if you’re planning to become the proud owner of a new yacht in the near future.

If you’re among the fortunate few with contacts in the yachting industry or hold the much-coveted Sapphire pass, the social round puts you in touch with the yachting elite. Every night features invitation-only cocktail get-togethers or full-scale parties aboard yachts of every description. With the right contacts in your address book, there will be other off-programme social events to attend too. Private parties range from the super-elegant to let-your-hair-down soirees.

The Monaco Yacht Show offers something for every jetsetter to enjoy. Even if you aren’t part of the “in-group” you still won’t lack opportunities to mingle in Monaco. You can be sure of rubbing shoulders with yacht owners and designers at casinos, fine restaurants, and hotels while you indulge yourself to your heart’s content. Enjoy the beautiful surroundings as you make Monte-Carlo your playground.

Does the Monaco Yacht Show Have a Dress Code?

There’s no official dress code for the Monaco Yacht Show. All the same, there are norms to uphold, and we’re sure you’d like to put your best foot forward. In general, the unspoken dress code consists of smart casualwear with a nautical feel. For men, this generally means linen short pants or trousers paired with cotton shirts or golf shirts. Women generally opt for high-end smart casualwear with a tailored look. Having said that, jeans and a T-shirt are perfectly acceptable when strolling around admiring exhibits.

If you’re invited to step aboard a yacht for a Monaco Yacht Show party, check your invitation for the required dress code. In general, chinos and blazers are standard wear for men, while women tend toward more glamorous dresses or trouser ensembles. Remember that you will have to take your shoes off while on board, so choose hemlines that will work with bare feet.

The Monaco Yacht Show launches its Adventure Area

Monaco Yacht Show

The Adventure Area is the Monaco Yacht Show’s new themed exhibition dedicated to adventure, exploration and all manner of leisure activities on board a yacht.

From 28 September to 1 October, the MYS new Adventure Area is set to boast a vast range of day-trip and sports tenders, luxury and off-road vehicles, water toys, high-tech gadgets, helicopters and tailor-made programmes to explore the planet’s most remote destinations.

The exhibition will span across two sites at Monaco’s Port Hercule: Quai Antoine I er , which previously featured the Car Deck and Tenders & Toys exhibitions, is now home to the Adventure Area that combines the two themes in a single location, boasting a myriad of luxury vehicles, tenders and water toys for visitors to discover; secondly, as in previous editions, around twenty tenders will be moored at Quai Jarlan.

Monaco Yacht Show

This extended exhibition for all adventure and leisure activities reflects the MYS’ continued ambition to bring visitors the finest yachting experience. Today, charter clients want to drive all-terrain vehicles to the North Pole, go on underwater excursions, take tender rides off the coast of secluded islands, enjoy tailor-made tours of historical and cultural sites in coastal destinations, discover animal species – while respecting their ecosystems – and even take part in scientific field trips.

By announcing three new themed exhibitions for 2022 – the Sustainability Hub, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub (new format) and the Adventure Area – the Monaco Yacht Show has proven that it is on course towards its goal: helping the industry redefine the yachting experience (an expression that has become all-too common) and appeal to a new superyacht charter clientele. This new generation challenges current yachting standards: it is revolutionising the concept of luxury with its epicurean vision and desire to freely discover new experiences – one that prevails over the need to own.

– Location: Quai Antoine I er , Quai Port Hercule, Monaco – Free access with a valid MYS pass – Opening hours: 10 a.m. – 6.30 p.m. (6 p.m. on Saturday)

Navigating the Show: Essential Tips

Monaco Yacht Show

The Monaco Yacht Show spans several days, and with over 120 superyachts and 50 tenders on display, and it can be complex to navigate. So how to prepare? A detailed map of the Show is essential, and planning your schedule in advance is advisable to ensure you visit the exhibitors most relevant to your interests.

Comfortable (but stylish!) shoes are a must. The Show’s vast area means your step count will be much more than you would expect in a confined area, going from dock to dock, whether exploring the luxury yachts, attending meetings, or browsing the various booths. So allow enough time between appointments and try to plan them by location of stand. Wear high-factor sunscreen and bring a water bottle. We suggest a simple but elegant tote bag for your own items and collateral you may receive.

Designated meeting spots, such as the various lounges or cafes, and if you know the right person, the Monaco Yacht Club provide convenient locations for catching up with colleagues or new contacts. If you wish to dine around the port for lunch or dinner, make a table reservation in advance and be patient regarding the service.

Where to Stay: Ideal Locations

Accommodation in Monaco during the Show can be challenging to secure, so consider staying in nearby locations if you haven’t booked well in advance. You don’t need to stay in the heart of Monaco, which gets booked up months ahead Beaulieu-sur-Mer, a picturesque village known for its beautiful coastline and relaxed atmosphere, is just a short train ride or drive away. Nice, with its blend of old-world charm and modern luxury, is another excellent option, it offers hotel accommodation to suit all budgets. Villefranche-sur-Mer and Cap d’Ail also offer a range of accommodations, from simple to luxury and easy access to the Show.
