CYGNUS 40 OCEAN TRAWLER Year 2003
Very well built at the worldwide renowned A.F. Theriault & Son shipyard in Canada as a quality trawler, designed and engineered as a whole boat by the naval architect Michael KASTEN, the Cygnus 40 is a nice trawler, strong and easy to use for blue water cruising or steaming the channels with a crew of 2 or 4. Passive "Flume Tank" stabilizers, variable pitch propeller to adapt the very changing load of a travelling trawler and the sea conditions, ballasted long keel, strong and safe aluminium hull and superstructures, emergency tiller and "back home" sails, insulation, heating systems, this trawler has everything a blue water cruising trawler needs. Maintained by a careful owner.
Owner's words
Michael KASTEN did not just designed a hull, general lines and an inside layout with an engine to move all this, he designed the Cygnus 40 as a whole ship where all the elements act together to get the best efficiency of each part of the boat. Despite of some rough conditions we encountered, we always felt secure and relaxed, knowing that, even in case of a major engine breakdown, the ship was able to reach the shore under emergency sails. The life aboard is easy and nice and we had good time aboard this nice trawler, designed with higher standards than any other pleasure craft we have been aboard before.

The galley and saloon are large and comfortable but this vessel has only two berths in the forward cabin, with another two if the saloon table is dropped and the extra divan added.

It appeals to a non-boater or somebody who likes big traditional engines. The Lister diesel started promptly and ticked over smoothly. It is low revving and economical compared with petrol outboards.
