Hamble Point Marina

Key information, berths at hamble point marina.

Hamble, is well known across the world for its connections to yachting. Located between Portsmouth and Southampton, both of which are steeped in Maritime History. Hamble was the home of Spitfire, Lancaster and Wellington aircraft. Fairey Aviation who built the Fairey Hamble Baby Floatplane in 1917, was based at Hamble Point Marina.

Hamble Point Marina is located at the mouth of Southampton Water. It is the closest mainland marina with access to the Solent. It is popular with both racers and cruisers. The marina has an on-site bar/restaurant, laundry facilities and the on-site tenants offer a wide variety of services that you may wish to use.

The marina can hold up to 230 boats up to 30m in length and has a working boatyard with a crane and a dry stack. It’s minutes from Port Hamble Marina which has a fuel berth. Hamble Point Marina has the Yacht Harbour Association’s Five Gold Anchors award.

The closest village is Hamble Le Rice, a 5-minute drive or a 20-minute walk from Hamble Point. Hamble village has a convenience shop, hairdressers, beauty salons, gift shops and a wide variety of popular bars and restaurants.

How much can you save by taking a berth at Hamble Point?

Sublet berths.

MDL berth owners are allowed to sublet their lease berths as long as the rate for the berth does not undercut MDL current pricing. The price quoted is the current MDL rate less VAT.

The benefits of subletting a marina berth are very similar to the old “Freedom Berthing” package that MDL used to offer to berth holders.

This includes:

• Fuel at cost price
• Discounted lift outs
• Car parking permits
• Wi-fi on site
• 30 nights per year at other MDL marinas
• Storage ashore for 8 weeks between November and February, unlimited at other times.

Long lease berths for sale

We regularly hear from owners that the main reason for buying, rather than renting a marina berth is to fix their berthing costs. We try to make it easy to make a comparison vs renting the same size berth in the same marina.

12.5m berth for sale

The 12.5m berth is for sale for £58,000 plus an annual service of £2100. You can moor until 2034.

Assuming no increase in annual service charge this = an annual cost of owning this berth of £7,372.73.

During the berthing year 2023/24, the rate for renting a 12.5m berth at Hamble Point Marina is £12,873.50.

Therefore the saving you would make each year over renting would be £5,500.77 or £60,508.47 over the lifetime of owning the berth.

In actuality, over the period of the lease, you will save more money per annum as the marina increases its annual rental charges.

The benefits of buying a lease berth are very similar to the old “Freedom Berthing” package that MDL used to offer to berth holders.

Location and travel information

Hamble Point Marina is a 10-minute drive from J8 of the M27. The M27 offers easy connections to both the M3 and the A3. It is also a 20-minute drive from Southampton airport – SOU.

If travelling in by train, the closest mainline station is next to the airport, Southampton Airport Parkway train station which has a regular service to London Waterloo. There is a small train station in Hamble, a 5-minute drive away from Hamble Point.

Information

Hamble Point Marina is hard to beat for its location alone, right at the mouth of the River Hamble with easy access to the world-famous waters of the Solent. This makes the marina a magnet for competitive sailors from around the globe, and a favourite with racers and cruising yachtsmen alike.

The 230-berth marina itself offers extensive shore-side facilities. Besides the Ketch Rigger bar and restaurant, Hamble Point boasts the best range of new and used boats for sale on the South Coast. There is also a dry stack system with 137 berths for motorboats up to 10 metres. Offering increased security and lower maintenance costs, the service includes unlimited launching on demand seven days a week.

For even greater ease, we have an online booking system to allow Dry Stack customers to make advanced bookings to have their boats launched, ready for their next on water adventure. Access is via the MyMDL customer portal.

Hamble Point Marine Service Centre

Besides its first-class berthing and marina services, Hamble Point Marina is a Marine Service Centre offering excellent maintenance and repair facilities. There are over 50 tenants there who provide boat-owners with a wide range of marine services from boat repairs to electrical work.

With storage ashore for over 650 boats, the dry sailing facility means boats can be launched for the weekend and put back in dry storage during the week – ideal for racers as it minimises water absorption and fouling, keeping boat weight down. As well as a wide, easy access slipway with ample space for car parking and trailer storage, there is an emergency boat lifting facility. There is also a 75-ton boat hoist and a 4-ton crane for masts/engines.

Pump Out Facilities

The nearest pump out station is located at Hythe Marina Village . The Green Blue has developed an online map to show which marinas, boatyards and harbours provide environmental facilities such as pump out, black water/Elsan disposal, recycling, freshwater refill points, hazardous waste disposal and filtered/bunded boat washdown. Out and About

Hamble is surrounded by natural beauty, with various local walks including the Strawberry Trail and Netley Beach to the Royal Victoria Country Park.

Directly south of the Hamble is the Isle of Wight, with Cowes only a few miles away. There are plenty of places to explore around the island's coastline such as Yarmouth, Newtown Creek and Bembridge. Hamble Point is also ideally located for visiting our other marinas in and around the Solent area.

To the east you can visit Chichester Harbour and historic Portsmouth, rich in naval heritage. Travel west and explore the quiet waters of Beaulieu River, Lymington and Poole Harbour or, further on, the spectacular sailing of the West Country. Further afield, Cherbourg, the Channel Islands and the Brittany coastline are within easy cruising distance.

Broker Remarks

"Teucer" is a beautifully maintained example of the Midget 26 built by Jachtwerf Gebr. De Kloet B.V. in Holland to a very high standard.  The design of the Midget 26 is timeless, and strongly reminiscent of the Scandinavian Colin Archers. With its round stern, heavy displacement and generous beam, which extends far to the front and back, the Midget 26 is a sea-kindly yet spacious form that has withstood the tests of both sea and time. The full-length keel is sloped in the forward sections and at the aft end supports the long rudder, providing protection to both the rudder and the propeller. The internal layout of the Midget 26 uses the forward sections of the boat for the U-shaped saloon seating. This allows the galley, heads and companionway to be positioned in the centre of the boats (where headroom is best), and allows the sterns to be used for two double cabins, creating the possibility for three double berths in three cabins if the saloon table is lowered and the infill cushions deployed. "....a tough, capable and impressively roomy cruising yacht, and one that should look after you if you're caught out in rough weather....." says Practical Boat Owner in Febraury 2005, refering to the Midget 26. The article goes on to say "....The Midget is certainly different. Small, solid, hand built boats are a rarity these days, but the success of this Dutch cruiser proves that there are still people for whom quality, character and robustness are more important than size...." Under the CE regulations, the Midget 26 is in category B (offshore). "Teucer" is currently ashore at Hamble Point Marina. Contact Simon Flowers on 02392 637 466 to arrange a viewing.

Two double quarter berths, each with good storage. Saloon forward with U-shaped seating around the central dining table.  Converts to a double berth. Navigation area to port, with chart table, stowage, instrumentation and electrical switch panel. Galley to starboard with 2-burner gimballed gas oven and grill.  Circular stainless steel sink with pressurised hot and cold water. Large refrigerator. Heads to port, aft of the navigation area, with marine toilet, sink and pressurised hot and cold water supply. Large mirror and ample stowage. Eberspacher cabin heating with 2 outlets. 240 volt outlet and 12 volt socket at chart table. Cockpit with tiller steering, engine control lever and instrument panel.  2 x cockpit lockers and 1 x lazerette which includes gas bottle stowage.  2 x teak pushpit seats.  Cockpit seating in teak.

Engine Vetus 2-cylinder 16 hp marine diesel engine. Shaft drive. 3-blade propeller. Tankage Fuel:     1 x stainless steel 60 litres (approx.) Water:   1 x stainless steel 200 litres Holding: 1 x stainless steel 48 litres Electrical System Shore power, with 240v outlets 12v system comprising 2 batteries: one for domestic and one for engine start.  Charging is by engine alternator and Mastervolt battery charger. Had a fantastic week chartering Blue Otter, Alex was incredibly helpful and sent loads of information and date checking prior to booking. There was a handover video and both the handover and return were really smooth. The boat was lovely and well maintained and Lee was really helpful in recommending places to visit (and helping identify the steering issue as an autopilot takeover - doh!). Definitely will be back and would fully recommend!

Just back from a lovely week in the Solent. Great service from HPYC from first inquiry through to return handover. Very straightforward to deal with, and the yacht was in excellent condition. We've chartered from many companies in the UK and abroad and the attention to detail (and flawless inventory!) was second to none. Everything about the yacht and equipment had clearly been well looked after and was in immaculate condition. Great service, will use again.

We had a great time sailing with Lee for a few days at the beginning of September. Hamble Point Yacht Charters supplied us an impeccable 45 ft Hanse yacht, which was handled with complete mastery by Captain Lee. It was a privilege to sail with Lee, who is clearly a highly skilled professional taking great pride in his work ... but who is also a fantastic character with a great sense of humour and plenty of fun stories to keep the whole family entertained. He balances the serious side of safety and learning about sailing with a whopping dose of amusement and good cheer. We sailed the Solent in some decent seas, visited Bucklers Hard on the banks of the Beaulieu River and learned lots about British nautical history. Our boys started somewhat of a fishing trend catching bass off the back of the boat in Portsmouth and we would love to sail with Lee again in the future. The man truly knows his stuff, maintained the boat impeccably and went to every effort to ensure that we had a great time. Many thanks to “Shippers” and Hamble Point Charters. We’ll be back.

This was the first time we had tried chartering and as experienced racing sailors we didn't know what to expect. Covid has closed down all our events this year so this was a chance to get afloat at least once in 2020. With a shallow draft of 1.4m/4'7" Samara can anchor closer to coves and sheltered bays overnight.

Samara Description

A rare find of luxury yacht combined with sporty/ adventurous qualities which stands out head and shoulders above other monohull and catamaran hull yachts of this size. From bow to stern, guests cannot truly imagine the comfort, quality and spaciousness of SAMARA until stepping aboard. Named after the ´winged seed of the Sycamore tree´, this yacht was built to glide effortlessly, efficiently and steadily over long distances, in shallow waters thanks to a minimum draft. Packed with innovative features such as solar power technology and cork decks while also catering to the most adventurous or laid back cruisers, every type of guest will appreciate what this yacht has to offer. The volume is remarkable with 4000 square feet aboard - beyond that of larger monohulls and attributed to her 31’ beam versus the typical 20’. Stepping aboard the AFT DECK, there is an extra large al fresco dining area, well sheltered (plus eisinglass enclosure optional) alongside a full barbeque grill to starboard. Enjoy a cocktail or coffee at the full bar to starboard side or just appreciate the view. Entering the MAIN SALON brings everything to life with open plan galley and bar stools to starboard and the welcoming lounge area to port. Concealed overhead is the 55´ TV transforming this area for movie night or morning news while at the galley bar. There is easy access to a bayhead on this level just forward of the lounge as well. Make your way amidship forward into a cozy sunken, second lounge situated a few steps down from the main salon. A romantic fire place feature here on a blustery evening makes this lounge very inviting. A true sanctuary on the main deck is the forward facing MASTER suite with open plan from port to starboard bringing in the gorgeous views and natural light of outdoors, inside as well. To port is the ensuite Master bathroom with double sinks featuring designer waterfall taps, private toilet and stall shower. To starboard is a walk-in wardrobe with drawers and hanging closet. Storage is ample throughout. A private glass door leads forward onto the Jacuzzi deck serving as a full Owner´s deck and offers privacy with the subtle wrap around of superstructure design on both sides. Large petal-shaped loungers invited guests to relax in the sun or curl up and read a book in privacy. Forward below deck in the port and starboard hulls guests will find the comfort of two Queen staterooms, each en suite with spacious showers, toilet and ample storage in two closets and cabinetry. Aft in the starboard hull 2-3 more guests can find accommodation in a double bed with pullman bunk, also with en suite facilities. Moving up to the SUN DECK during the day is akin to stepping into a private garden in an exclusive villa. Two custom cabanas easily offer comfort to 3 adults each with shade as desired overhead and around. If more sun is preferred, two chaise and two comfortable bean bags can be positioned where guests wish. A ‘jump seat’ sunpad situated in front of the helm on this level also provides the best view from above. The grassy texture covering this deck is soothing and non-slip underfoot while also giving an ‘island’ feel. As the moon rises, this deck transforms to a whole new experience of its own. Whether experiencing movie night with the oversized cinema in position or an elegant dinner under the stars, this is the most favored space aboard by most. Not to forget the area where the most action occurs, the SWIM PLATFORM. A hydraulic center stage secures the wave runners when under way and once lowered, this level is the easy access deck for choice of SCUBA DIVING, water toys, boarding the tender and swim entry. Transform this area with chairs and inflatable cushions for the perfect BEACH CLUB. Each hull also offers a set of steps and a swim ladder for water access.
