The RMI allows, through its national legislation and the RMI Yacht Code, the registration of private yachts, private yachts limited charter, commercial yachts, and passenger yachts. It also allows for RMI flagged private yachts to charter in French and Monégasque waters without the need for commercial registration by requesting a Temporary Certificate of Registry for Yacht Engaged in Trade.

Yacht owners can choose the home port of either Bikini or Jaluit. Two yachts may share a common name as long as they are registered in different home ports.

Like commercial vessels, ownership of yachts registered in the RMI must be through an RMI corporation, limited or general partnership, limited liability company, or a qualified foreign maritime entity.

Where to register your boat? When you purchase a motor or sailing vessel it is very important to decide on the best suitable country to register your yacht. There are many different countries that offer a favorable registration but each of them has pros and cons. It is important that you understand these before deciding on where to register. When you decide on a country to be registered, the vessel is subject to the laws of the country of registration. It is therefore important that the boat registration country you have registered in, offers the conveniences that you need.

Private use versus commercial use It is also important to know that some countries have an easy registration for private use vessels but not for commercial vessels. We can currently register your boat for commercial use in Poland, Langkawi, Gibraltar, Panama, Cayman Islands, the United Kingdom, British Virgen Islands (BVI) or Malta.

VAT registration on boats None of the jurisdictions that we register boats in require a VAT payment proof. Clients who wish to pay VAT in the EU can do so thru us. We have contacts with EU tax departments and can handle this for you.

MMSI Radio License – for VHF, AIS, radar and EPIRB As you are probably aware, it is mandatory by law to have a MMSI - radio license onboard your vessel at all times.

It is mandatory by law to have an MMSI license onboard your vessel at all times, so we highly recommend our clients to get this while applying for your boat ownership document. Having an MMSI license onboard avoids problems when you are checked by local authorities.

The first thing to understand is that under which flag you sail has nothing to do with your nationality! Most registrations we offer are available to any nationality. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT 27 FEBRUARY 2023 This week the Delaware DNREC and the US Coast Guard announced that they would no longer accept registrations for boats that are not actually based in state of Delaware waters. It is for this reason, we are letting you know that we still have plenty of other options to register your vessel and some are even easier and less expensive than the Delaware registration. We would like to recommend Poland, Langkawi, San Marino and the United Kingdom as an alternative for the Delaware registration. We can register your vessel in any of these jurisdictions and if you need to register a commercial vessel we can also register in Panama, Malta, BVI and the Cayman Islands. The United Kingdom does require a survey but this survey can be done in your own home country. The Dutch (Holland) ZEEBRIEF official registration is a real flag registration that is accepted worldwide. This registration requires a surveyor of the Dutch maritime authority to visit your boat wherever it is located. (You pay for these travel cost separately) However, while you arrange for this survey, we can get you a provisional registration that is fully valid in 1 to 3 weeks. The Panama registration is the largest in the world. The paperwork is straight forward and the flag is valid for 2 years with an very easy renewal process. The good news is that Panama does NOT require a survey. The Belgium registration. As per September 1, 2019 the Belgium registration will only be issued to residents of Belgium or companies owned for at least 50% by Belgium citizens. . All existing licenses that are currently valid for 5 years will not be effected by this new law until they are due for renewal. YACHT REGISTRATION

Registering a newly acquired yacht is often one of the last steps that a yacht owner needs to complete before the vessel can actually be sailed and enjoyed. But that does not mean it is simply an administrative procedure. In fact it is one of an owner’s most important decisions because registering a yacht is like obtaining a passport. You are effectively choosing the yacht’s nationality – with all the benefits and obligations that this can entail.

A yacht owner will want a flag that is competitive, accessible, and one that enjoys a good reputation around the world. The choice of flag should be guided by the following factors:

• Internationally recognised legal system and constructive legislation
• Effective administrative framework and good functionality
• Signatory to key international rules and conventions
• Tax efficient in respect of VAT and other taxes
• Political stability and diplomatic clout
• Access to full suite of yacht insurance products

The Red Ensign Group (REG) is a group of British Shipping Registers that is synonymous with ‘quality shipping’  by maintaining high technical, social, and administrative standards. The most popular REG jurisdictions are the UK, Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands, the British Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.

Beyond the REG, other flag states, notably Malta, Cyprus and the Marshall Islands, have been very successful in providing yacht registration to yacht owners and yacht management companies. The yacht registration process will vary according to the flag selected, but SMS has yacht registration expertise across multiple jurisdictions.

For a yacht broker or an owner who has just taken delivery of a yacht that has to make passage on completion of the sale, it is possible to obtain a provisional registration to cover the vessel for navigation immediately after purchase.

CORPORATE OWNERSHIP AND VAT

Corporate ownership offers many advantages to a yacht owner. Yachts are necessarily movable assets and this involves a significant element of potential risk. The most substantial benefits offered by corporate ownership are:

• ‘Limited Liability’ – this allows the beneficial owner to protect their other personal assets should the vessel be involved in an accident and subject to a claim against it.
• National yacht registries will generally only accept yachts that belong to their own citizens or a wider economic territory of which they are part. If a yacht is owned through a company that is registered in an appropriate jurisdiction, it can be registered in virtually any flag state of the owner’s choosing.
• A corporate structure can further provide opportunities for legitimate tax mitigation, as well as simplifying estate and succession planning.
• Indirect ownership through a company will avoid the need for the ultimate owner to enter into agreements and contracts directly when negotiating the purchase or construction of a vessel, employing crew and generally contracting with third parties.

Value Added Tax (VAT) is chargeable on boats purchased and owned by residents of the EU VAT Zone. VAT is also chargeable on vessels, irrespective of ownership, that spend more than six months in any calendar year cruising in EU VAT Zone waters.

Legitimate mitigation of potential VAT liabilities is generally available for both pleasure and commercial yachts, particularly if the yacht is purchased through a corporate structure. The options will depend on a comprehensive assessment of a yacht’s ownership structure, operational requirements and the personal financial circumstances of the owner.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

Yachts, especially superyachts, are among the most luxurious and expensive assets in the world but they operate in an environment that is full of natural and manmade hazards, from extreme weather events to collision and piracy.

SMS has the expertise and experience to keep your yacht running smoothly, making ownership as straightforward as possible. This service will provide readers with a basic idea of what the National Vessel Documentation Center has on file with regard to a vessel's status. The information serves as a starting point for more in-depth research with respect to ownership, mortgages, and lien claims. In conducting a query, be sure you have selected the appropriate type of search. Matching criteria may then be entered in either upper or lower case. Responses will accordingly correspond with the exact term or phrase you have stated. These will be shown in a list box directly below the submit button. It may take several moments to complete the process if the search involves a large number of records. Simply click the reset button if you wish to engage in a fresh search. Although generally current, the data provided here is subject to periodic updates. It is also subject to errors or omissions and should not be relied upon without further investigation. Certain archived files which have been inactive over the past several decades may also be unavailable. Information of this nature is however, available by special order. Data beyond what is returned from our search lookup resource can be obtained directly from the documentation center. This includes ownership information, preferred mortgage filings, lien claim notices, and supplemental data. • NSW Pensioner Concession Card (PCC) issued by Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA)

Wow. Need a license or registration? Come here! Completely different experience than the government-run DMV service centers. People were friendly and helpful. They showed us our license picture to make sure we liked it. Heads up - for a travelers license you need to bring a few bits of official ID such as a passport and two bills. Really appreciated the people working here - they welcomed us in and were pretty efficient - one lady took our picture so we would be ready to go to sign the official papers.

Shout to Liliana, she provided a great customer service experience. She was professional and attentive to my many questions that I asked. Especially being from out of the state she was able to inform me of some very important rules and regulations and other information that I should be aware of. The service was efficient, pleasant, and fast. Good job Liliana, thank you.

Getting a new license at this location was an absolute breeze! The process was incredibly fast and efficient, and we were in and out within 30 minutes. Everyone we encountered was incredibly helpful and friendly, providing us with all the information we needed. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get a new license and other DMV needs, and we will definitely be returning in the future.

Stopped by today to renew my registration & customize my plates. The entire visit was 20 minutes long and I could not be happier!

This place is amazing. Coming from out of state, they made every transaction so easy and fast. No hassles, no problems. I would recommend 1000%. I got my car registered, title transferred, and True ID. Prices are reasonable but anything is worth the positive experience! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Next time you need a DMV service, come here!

I would recommend this place, the service was fast and easy. Big shout out to Rosa who answered all of our questions and made the experience very pleasant. Since I found "1 Stop" I will no longer go to any MVD location.

Very quick and easy process to transfer a title and everyone was very friendly and helpful.

When I went, it was not very busy and one lady greeted me right away. It is evident that some of the workers here are not trained properly in terms of what documents are needed for a name change on a driver's license. On the ADOT website it said all I needed was my SSN card and my marriage certificate/license to which I provided both of those and she said she didn't need those and that I need to go through the court? Then I call the court to confirm whether or not this is true and they said that's not correct and that all I needed was those two things.
