The Best Tenders for Yachts in 2024

SYTT

Tenders in a nutshell

A tender is a boat that services a larger vessel (referred to as the mothership ). It can take many forms and deliver a wide range of conveniences.

Historically called ‘ship’s boats, ‘ tenders have supported large vessels for centuries. They have been used for guest transfers, refuge boats, landing crafts, stowed on deck or towed astern—little has changed!

Whilst the vast majority of tenders employed by smaller yachts are typically rigid inflatable boats, the modern-day superyacht considers a multitude of vessels indispensable.

Hull categories

We’ve been specialising in building boat tenders for over a decade, yet with such a degree of cross-over and with a seemingly endless request for custom configurations, categorising tenders remains a challenge.

Nonetheless, at the top-most level, we categorise all tenders under one of the following three hull types:

Fully Inflatable A lightweight vessel relying solely on inflation for buoyancy.

Rigid Inflatable A vessel with a hull constructed from rigid materials such as aluminium or fibreglass, supported with an inflatable or foam collar for added buoyancy in high seas.

Rigid   A fully rigid hull without a buoyancy collar of any type.

Tender sub-categories

In addition to hull type, we can identify most yacht tenders under the following sub-categories:

⌾ Open ⌾ Chase ⌾ Classic ⌾ Foil ⌾ Catamaran ⌾ Dive

Compass Tenders for Superyachts

What is an open tender?

An open tender is principally a single-deck boat with no enclosed cabin. Chiefly a guest transfer boat with ample seating both forward and aft, open tenders are day boats without accommodation above or below deck.

While we see many open tenders dedicated to guest transfers, by their very nature, they can also incorporate centre console boats, some dive boats, landing crafts, and even limousines.

An olive green chase boat carving through the ocean with a woman on the bow

What is a chase tender?

As the name suggests, a chase tender—which can also be an open tender—follows the mothership.

Chase boats can take on many guises since their main attribute is size. As a result, they are generally not stored on board but instead towed astern.

Often very angular in design, with excellent seaworthiness, chase boats need to be able to withstand the rigours of being towed by the mothership. Whilst a lot of large chase tenders can be operated entirely independently, towing very long distances (such as transatlantic) is not advised.

Riva Classiche

What is a classic tender?

Tenders with the hallmark of classic design are styled with an exquisite, continuous line from the head to the heel.

Echoing the lacquered freeboards of a Riva Ariston or the flawless veneers of a Hinckley picnic boat, a modern classic from the likes of J Craft or Wajer will feature a gracefully tapered form, avoiding right angles altogether.

A small boat hydrofoiling across the ocean

What is a foiling tender?

Combining thrust with lift (as an aeroplane does), high-speed tenders have the opportunity also to become airborne.

Less drag, higher speeds and lower energy consumption are the key advantages, although from a guest comfort perspective, being elevated above a big swell scores very highly.

Linx 30 Catamaran Tender

What is a catamaran tender?

Largely associated with utility boats, catamaran tenders (not to be confused with catamaran sailboats) present superyacht owners with a number of major advantages over their mono-hulled counterparts.

Favoured as a utility vessel, a twin-hulled catamaran can be built much wider than an equivalent-length vessel with a mono hull. It offers increased stability and, therefore, a more comfortable ride in bigger seas. Thanks to a smaller surface area, there’s also less drag, which results in faster speeds and higher efficiency.

ROAM Adventure RIBs

What is a dive tender?

We build tenders optimised specifically for scuba diving, however, given the range of crossover in the market, the likes of amphibious boats, beachlanders, some centre consoles, landing crafts, open tenders, RIBs and utility boats can also work perfectly well for diving.

Storage, floor space and, most importantly, the convenience of easy access to the water are key attributes of a versatile dive boat tender.

The right tender for the job

So far we’ve categorised our tenders — now to define which tender is best suited to which scenario.

Amphibious Tender

✓ Rigid ✓ Rigid Inflatable ✓ Open ✓ Chase ✓ Tow or stow

Sharp stones, steep drop-offs, inclement weather, and changing tides needn’t worry your crew when you have the luxury of an amphibious tender. Visit almost any secluded cove or spit with virtually no risk of becoming stranded or beached.

Go where other boats simply wouldn’t dare, landing on shorelines in rough breaks and on rugged terrain. Be sure to do your homework, though, as most beaches and marinas will require permission to stroll out the sea on an amphibious tender.

A man is throwing a ball to a boat on the beach, while tending to the yacht.

Beachlander Tender

We are all about time spent on the water, but the sensation of stepping off a tender onto the warm sand is in itself a joy to behold. We don’t mean clambering over the side of a rib and bouncing awkwardly into the shallows. We mean stepping from a dry boat onto dry sand.

Whether you intend to spend the day in your swimmers or are off for an island excursion, getting wet feet before you begin should be a choice.

We offer a beachlander option on all of our aluminium rigid inflatable boats .

Classic Daysailer

✓ Rigid ✓ Open ✓ Classic ✓ Stow

Strip back the layers of modernity that clothe large motor yachts and delve into a tactile sailing experience with a classic daysailer.   Built a short distance upriver from SYTT, the Spirit R30 is a daysailer that marries cinematic elegance with unparalleled craftsmanship.    Born from the same yard that graced the silver screen in iconic Bond films such as Casino Royale  and No Time To Die , this 9.2m yacht epitomises timelessness with its exquisite wooden construction.    Small sailing boats like the R30 can be de-rigged and stowed, nestled within a yacht’s garage or gracefully perched on deck.

A white boat with two motors, ideal as tenders for yachts, glides gracefully in the water.

Center Console

✓ Rigid ✓ Open ✓ Chase ✓ Tow or stow

Synonymous with the Florida Keys, the traditional centre console (or center console in the US), is typically a single-deck boat with the helm in the middle.

Geared towards recreational fishing, the centre console maximises the floor space while, crucially, allowing for full access around all sides of the boat. On smaller boats, seating is often sacrificed for floor space, while larger centre consoles fitted with cabins creep into the Sports Fisher sector.

Not intended to be an especially dry boat, both crew and guests are often exposed to the elements. The upshot is that centre consoles and, more so, sports fishers, tend to offer huge power, which is especially useful for long day trips from the mainland.

HCB Center Console Boat

High-performance

‘Go-fast’ boats, as the name suggests, are built exclusively for speed. More commonly known as ‘cigarette boats’ due to their shape, go-fast boats are not for the faint-hearted.

A craze immortalised by the Cigarette Racing Team, modern-day cigar boats can achieve speeds of over 100 knots. Largely impractical as a conventional superyacht tender, the range of high-performance boats have thankfully branched more into Centre Consoles. In turn, this presents superyacht owners with a high-performance chase boat of an almost unimaginable spec.

Cigarette Boat Tirranna Hardtop

Landing Craft

✓ Rigid ✓ Rigid Inflatable ✓ Inflatable ✓ Open ✓ Chase ✓ Catamaran ✓ Dive ✓ Tow or stow

A vessel with a very military feel, a landing craft tender is designed to carry everything, including vehicles, from yacht to shore.

With our ROAM Landing Craft, a button-operated super-strength bow ramp enables drive-on, drive-off capabilities, ideal for disembarking heavy items where lifting facilities are not available at shore.

Our landing crafts are built with a catamaran hull for enhanced stability. We also manufacture high-quality fold-up motorised boats.

Landing Craft Dark Blue Central Console

Limousine Tender

✓ Rigid ✓ Open ✓ Classic ✓ Foil ✓ Stow

Surely the ultimate statement of sophistication — the limousine tender is the pinnacle mode of guest transfer.

A range of 6-14m and accommodating up to eighteen guests in consummate luxury, a fully enclosed guest cabin will often mirror the furnishings of the mothership.

Compass Tender with Mothership

Picnic Boat

✓ Rigid ✓ Chase ✓ Classic ✓ Stow

If leisure cruising and lunching were your only pursuit, you’d surely have a picnic boat. The quintessential day cruiser, a picnic boat is unequivocally designed for rest and relaxation on the water.

Inspired by the lobster boats of Maine, where the sloping rails from bow to stern made it easier for lobstermen to haul in their traps, the symbolic Picnic Boat represents everything exciting and romantic about a day out on the water.

Hinckley Yachts Picnic Boat

Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB)

✓ Rigid Inflatable ✓ Open ✓ Dive ✓ Tow or stow

The workhorse tender of any yacht is the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB). Robust, versatile, and highly manoeuvrable, RIBs typically offer speed, buoyancy, and good handling on high seas.

A foam or inflatable collar provides extra buoyancy in the event of taking on water, while in the case of RIB boats —which have a high deadrise—also acts as a spray rail for keeping the deck dry. Popular with superyachts, RIBs can be towed or stowed and used for a wide range of purposes.

We specialise in wake boat customisation, supplying specifically to superyachts.

SOLAS Rescue Tender

✓ Rigid Inflatable ✓ Inflatable ✓ Stow

In accordance with the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), all ships over 500GT (typically 50m+) must carry at least one fully compliant SOLAS Rescue Vessel (and a complement of life rafts). The rescue vessel must be stowed onboard and cannot be towed astern or located on a support vessel.

SOLAS Rescue Vessels must be able to carry five seated persons and a person lying on a stretcher. They must also have an automatic self-righting capability and the engine must be restartable following a capsize. Stable in a seaway (and deployable when the mothership is doing 5 knots), rescue boats may be either rigid or inflated and need to be operable in water that is 1-30°C. They also need to be able to start in -30°C air temperature.

First adopted in 1914, the SOLAS Convention was initiated as a direct response to the Titanic disaster. The Convention in use today is often referred to as the “SOLAS, 1974, as amended”.

For any help and advice relating to SOLAS requirements, contact our team who have a depth of knowledge on the subject.

SOLAS Lifeboats

✓ Rigid ✓ Stow Unlike a SOLAS Rescue Vessel that can be inflatable or rigid hull, a lifeboat must have the latter.

Painted bright orange—or Pantone 144—a lifeboat can have a LOA no less than 7.3m.

Pascoe SOLAS For Sale 01

Sports Fisher

✓ Rigid ✓ Tow

A close relative of both the Central Console and High-performance categories, a Sports Fisher is a dedicated recreational fishing boat. Despite the wide range of boats within this category, the Flybridge Sports Fisher is the most synonymous with the name.

Large boats, often up to 25m, the archetypal fisher is perfectly suited to lengthy, deep-sea fishing trips. Typically built with berths, heads, a galley and a tower (perhaps even a live bait tank, too), a Sports Fsher is for serious big game fishing enthusiasts.

It’s quite a commitment for a superyacht when a large open or utility tender with rod holders would probably be just as effective if big game fishing was less of a priority.

HCB Sports Fisher

Utility Tender

✓ Rigid Inflatable ✓ Inflatable ✓ Open ✓ Chase ✓ Catamaran ✓ Dive ✓ Tow or stow

A utility tender is the most versatile boat on the list. Ticking almost every box, a utility boat is somewhat open to interpretation. As much an entire category as it is an individual tender, a utility boat could easily take the form of a landing craft or open RIB.

Both promote an open deck space and satisfy the needs of crew in all manner of tasks, including the general movement of equipment and vehicles, refuge and provision runs, and guest and crew transfers.

This vintage masterpiece is powered by a Cummins Diesel Engine, QSM 11 offering up 660 horsepower and a head-turning ride from your yacht.

30 Hacker-Craft 1929

fastest yacht tender

Turn up the cool retro vibes with this 30 Hacker-Craft 1929 (*blinks eyes* yes, 1929). A little story about this gem: she was purchased new in 1929 by a Manhattan Episcopalian bishop at the New York City Boat Show. She remained on Lake George, New York until 1989 when she was purchased by a renowned wooden boat aficionado, Mark Mason of Lake Winnipesaukee.

This boat was then purchased by Alan Jackson and, at 74 years old, went through a 3-year professional restoration. She’s now one of the nicest 30-foot Hackers in the world (if we do say so ourselves) and a perfect yacht tender for those New England summers .

28 Axopar 2017

fastest yacht tender

The 28 Axopar 2017 is the perfect yacht tender to accommodate a big group of people. Plenty of comfortable seating on the bow lets you face each other and cheers to the sunset while there are 6 seats at the stern for those stragglers who hopped on last.

The 300 horsepower Verado with Mercury Gold has a transferable warranty with only 225 hours. Other features include underwater lights, new upholstery, an enclosed head and sink, and a removable Bimini top. This is the only Axopar Open available in the US and it’s perfect for boaters with bridge height restrictions.

Your superyacht may turn heads, but this yacht tender is a conversation starter. This 23 foot De Antonio Yachts 2013 offers the convenience and performance of outboard power while retaining modern European lines and concealing the 200 horsepower Evinrude G2 under the aft sun pad.

It’s fitted with underwater lights, a loud sound system, and a custom fiberglass hardtop with sunroofs. When you pull up to the sandbar or dinner in this boat, someone’s going to ask where can I get one too? Too bad it’s the only D23 available on the East Coast.

Highfield Boats Sport 900

Pushing technology and the luxury of its RIB range to the furthest limits yet, Highfield Boats has launched their largest aluminum-hulled rigid inflatable boat to date, the Sport 900, which will debut in the U.S. market in fall 2022. Built to be tough, the Sport 900 will retain its same agile performance in 10 years’ time and provide comfort and performance in rough sea conditions. It’s easy to tow, launch, and recover due to its light weight and integrated davit lifting eyes. To enhance the gathering spaces, it also features an integrated rear seat with cushion, bow and stern sundeck, and rear table. The Sport 900 doesn’t sacrifice luxury either with a Vitrifrigo refrigerator, sunbrella top, kitchenette, shower kit, and swim platform, so the day can be enjoyed to the fullest.

Nerea NY24 Limo

Imagine being able to ride at a top speed of 32 knots thanks to a 300-hp Volvo D4 putting power into the water via an Aquamatic drive with duoprop. The 7.35-meter Nerea NY24, created by Dario Messina to have sharp lines and tight styling, comes in three variations: GT, Deluxe, and Limo. While the Limo is the best candidate for superyacht-tender use, the Deluxe version offers enough room for a convertible sofa berth and heads below (as well as stylish pilot chairs by ideaeITALIA), as well as numerous add-ons like audio visual, fridges, and more. Its Oltremateria (a recyclable finishing material) gives it an impresive sustainable feature that you can feel good about too.

RIBCRAFT 9.0

RIBCRAFT , which manufactures professional-grade RIBs for military agencies, safety professionals, and recreational boaters alike, has redesigned their RIBCRAFT 9.0. The brand is designed for offshore, and with performance in mind, the new model has a deep V hull, deep forefoot, and full-length lifting strakes. The new model has a new deck arrangement with a large wraparound bow seating area with an optional teak

table that converts into a sun platform, improved comfortable helm, aft seating, an optional oversized T-Top with hard top or antenna arch, and an onboard head. Powered by twin 300-hp Yamaha outboards, the boat reaches speeds in excess of 60 mph. Built in the U.S., users are able to customize their RIB to their needs.

Yachtwerft Meyer Solaris tender

German Yachtwerft Meyer is known for its beautiful tenders — it claimed the win for Tender of the Year in the BOAT Design and Innovation Awards in 2021 for its tender to Radiant . Tender options include offering from limo to catamaran tenders, and it was the catamaran tender to 139.7-meter Solaris that caused waves when it launched in 2021. Engineers modeled the tender shape and styling to the mothership, with a frameless curved windscreen, a drop-down beach landing platform, plus a hydraulic hardtop attached. Also tucked below was ample hidden storage, a plus on any size superyacht. Its two Hamilton jets are powered by two 480-hp Volvo Penta D6s.

The 10 Best Explorer Yachts for High-Seas Adventures

A 350-foot gigayacht or 60-foot cruiser size isn't what defines an explorer yacht. the devil's in the details when it comes to authenticity., julia zaltzman, julia zaltzman's most recent stories.

Damen SeaXplorer Superyacht

Unlike fashion trends that seem to move as fast as a Redbull F1 car, the yachting industry takes its time adopting new ideas. There seems to be one exception. Explorer vessels, born out of the owners’ desires to go farther and stay longer, without sacrificing creature comforts, is developing with some urgency.

Several dozen builders and designers are now focusing on explorers, but they are also consulting with adventure travel firms that have a long history of using expedition yachts in remote parts of the globe. ICON Yachts, for example, collaborated with Cookson Adventures and the International Seakeepers Society on its Project Mission in both the overarching design and the details found across the yacht. Adventure outfitter EYOS employs its expertise routinely with Damen’s explorer vessels, most recently with the 190-foot Pink Shadow.   EYOS has a list of 50 features that separate authentic explorers from faux versions that might look the part but lack the necessary infrastructure and design elements.

Long-range cruising, system redundancy for autonomy at sea, and storage to carry specialist equipment like submersibles are some of the requirements that define expedition boats. There’s also deck configuration for the easy launch of tenders and toys, along with strong, ice-class hulls and climate-controlled areas comfort in extreme polar and tropic regions.

We culled through the latest fleet of explorers with multiple lengths and designs, selecting a single feature that we think makes it best in class. Here are 10 of our favorites.

Best Pilothouse: Doggersbank 77 Offshore

fastest yacht tender

More than 700 Doggersbank motoryachts have been built since the 1960s, with the latest model scheduled for delivery in 2025. The robust, offshore vessels are designed by Dutch studio Vripack for long ocean passages, assisted by a high, flared bow. “It prevents green water from hitting the wheelhouse windows in rough seas, and together with the Portuguese bridge, ensures the captain’s view is not obstructed,” Joost Mertens, Doggersbank fleet manager, told Robb Report . “The yacht’s steel hull ensures the yacht sits better in the water making it less vulnerable to wind and high waves.”

Best Deck Configuration: Columbus Crossover 42

fastest yacht tender

The Columbus Crossover 42 is defined by both straight and angled surfaces,  tapered stern sections and a concentration of volume in the bow that is becoming on many explorers. What is atypical is the yacht’s compact but flexible dimensions that accommodate a large cockpit tender and a 108-square-foot swimming pool with relaxation areas. Sold to an U.S. customer, it’s scheduled for delivery in 2025.

Best Multipurpose Stern: Bering B165

fastest yacht tender

Turkish boatbuilder Bering Yachts revealed details of its new 162-foot flagship explorer yacht, the B165 , at the Dubai International Boat Show in March. The yacht can carry 18,400 gallons of fuel, which the builder says will give it a 4,000 nautical mile range when cruising at 12 knots. It also has a 2,640-gallon holding tank. What singles the B165 out among other explorers, however, is its multi-purpose stern area for both function and form. The elongated aft deck has a swimming pool surrounded by sunbeds. When the bulwarks are folded down, the space becomes an even larger overwater terrace. When the pool is not in use, it can be used as a covered storage area for water toys and expedition equipment. The yacht’s two tenders are also stored on the aft, making it a flexible space for both equipment and guests.

Best Family-Friendly Concept: Project Mimer

fastest yacht tender

This 197-foot expedition concept by Tillberg Design of Sweden caters to family travel with a helicopter pad as well as multiple tenders and toys. It’s pitched by the studio as an introduction to true explorer yachting. It has a functional crew layout for efficient operations and an upper deck owner’s suite with a forward terrace and spa pool. With a hull that will be built to the Polar Code Category, the concept also has an optional helipad aft and long list of toys, from an electric luxury tender and two expedition RIBS to quad bikes, a submersible, Jet Skis, and, of course, an amphibious vehicle. The five-decked yacht sleeps 12 guests with crew quarters for 17 and an additional staff member, such as a nanny.

Best Ice Explorer: Damen SeaXplorer 105

fastest yacht tender

Damen’s 345-foot SeaXplorer 105 is the largest model in the SeaXplorer range, with exterior design by Azure Yacht Design. The platform was developed under the guidance of expedition specialists EYOS Expeditions, who considered over 150 design criteria, from the hull form and bridge layout to the tender davits and Zodiac boarding arrangements. But it is EYOS’s expertise in the polar regions—it facilitated the first heli-ski charter in Antarctica and the first 3,200-foot sub dive to the Antarctic midnight zone—that gives the vessel its point of difference. The SeaXplorer has an ice-strengthened hull and a specially shaped icebreaking stern to maneuver through rough terrain.

Best Interior: Project Fox

fastest yacht tender

On top of having a cool name, Project Fox has a bright, contemporary interior, courtesy of London’s Q Design, that is becoming more common on expedition yachts. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is also one of the yacht’s standout features, with its marble en suite and hardwood floors. The salon is also luxe, with white walls that brighten up travel even in areas that are sunlight deprived. Project Fox also has four other staterooms.

Best Autonomy: Project Master

fastest yacht tender

ICON Yachts’s Project Master was a transoceanic offshore support vessel before the Dutch shipyard began a refit to turn it into an explorer yacht (see before and after inset). It’s equipped with diesel-electric hybrid propulsion, a wide beam for multiple tender spaces, a 7,200-nautical mile range, and flexible cabin arrangements for expedition crew. Other features include a science lab and a certified heli-deck. “The yacht’s helicopter and sub capability mean it can offer assistance in areas with challenging access and little infrastructure,” Micca Ferrero, owner of ICON Yachts, told Robb Report . “The design is for the demands of self-sufficient voyages.”

Best Use of Volume: Arcadia Yachts A96

fastest yacht tender

The A96 mixes the lines, volume, and open-plan layout of Arcadia’s Sherpa series with the speed, joystick maneuverability, and quality of the yard’s A range. It’s the first Arcadia to have an Igor Lobanov-designed interior, as well as a high bow and high deckheads for traversing rough water. But its big differentiator is the 214 gross tonnes of volume and 24-foot beam that generate big volumes—4,300 square feet of usable space, which is 30 percent more than on other similar-sized yachts. Low bulwarks and lateral walkways emphasize the sense of openness.

Best Bow: Project Shackleton

fastest yacht tender

This 351-foot build from Lürssen has an inverted bow that looks like an eagle’s beak. The shape is designed to slice through waves with much lower vibration through the hull, while also reducing rock and roll in rough seas. Unlike the quasi-research vessel exteriors of many explorers, this vessel is representative of the changing look of many in this growing segment.

Best Multi-Mode Hull: Azimut Magellano 60

fastest yacht tender

The Magellano 60 isn’t technically an explorer yacht. Think of it as a cruiser  designed for some long-distance travel. But it does have one very interesting feature, what its builder Azimut calls a “dual-mode” hull. The semi-planing shape is designed to optimize fuel consumption (and therefore lower emissions) by about 20 percent (compared to similar-sized vessels) at low and medium speeds. The yacht’s bow is also designed to cut through waves for better seakeeping at a range of speeds. The boat cruises very efficiently at 18 knots but will hit a top end of 26, thus delivering the performance of a planing hull with the benefits of a displacement hull.

Fast VS. slow: Winning the race with Bering Yachts & Bering Marine

An ancient Greek storyteller Aesop wrote a fable titled “The Tortoise and the Hare” in the 6th century BCE. The tale’s takeaway advises that slow, steady progress wins the race over short bursts of speed.

fastest yacht tender

Boats can be tortoises. They can also be hares. It does not, however, have to be an either/or situation.

Bering Yachts has written its own version of Aesop’s fable. In our story, it is the combination of slow, steady progress combined with bursts of speed that wins the race. The race we refer to is your personal race. It is the race you have with yourself and your schedule. Not focused on speed, but your own itinerary, using resources of speed, fuel, and time wisely for your ultimate satisfaction.

Did you know that a slower yacht may actually get you to your destination faster and in greater comfort, with more memorable stops on your itinerary than a faster yacht? The secret lies in a combination of strength and speed: a Bering steel hull yacht is equipped with a Bering Marine hydrofoil-supported catamaran. The strength of steel. The speed of hydrofoils and air tunnels on a catamaran. Consider the details.

Durability and Safety are Interlinked

On a lightweight, 70/100-foot fiberglass cruising yacht, it is common to see spec sheets boasting speeds of 20, 30, or even 40 knots. Admittedly impressive, other considerations may give thoughtful captains pause. What damage might be inflicted to a GRP yacht hitting a shipping container, an oil drum, a coral reef, or other debris at that speed? Not a pleasant thought. Know that the sturdy steel hull of a Bering yacht is a proven survivor should it meet with such challenges, enabling you to maintain your itinerary while protecting precious cargo on board.

fastest yacht tender

Passenger Comfort Matters

How comfortable is the passenger ride in a GRP yacht at high speeds? Is it a smooth ride or one that rocks and rolls with waves and swells, tossing things about even with active stabilizers? Can passengers sit and enjoy a meal or a cocktail on an outdoor deck without a sea shower? More importantly, can they hold a conversation above the noise created by the engines and the superstructure’s vibration?

On our Bering luxury explorer yachts, the ride is pleasantly smooth due to the hull’s weight and its design. Full displacement yachts like Bering are highly comfortable for sleeping, dining, or relaxing. Passenger comfort is essential, and at Bering Yachts, we keep this in mind with every yacht we create. Our vessels are also remarkably quiet in comparison, with a hushed 50 dB noise level allowing civilized conversation on any outdoor deck underway. That is comparable to the sound of moderate rainfall. Looking for a comfortable yacht with a smooth ride? Look no further than Bering Yachts.

Range May Prove an Issue

At higher speeds, what kind of range can lightweight yachts achieve? What puts Bering Yachts apart from the competition is the second-to-none yacht fuel economy our comfort yachts offer. Sporting smaller tanks that consume fuel at astonishing rates is not an appealing feature for crossing oceans or heading out to remote locations. Even if you are hopping along the coast, time spent securing and stopping for refueling could be a concern.

Most of our steel-hulled yachts have an extraordinary range (3000-9000 nautical miles) and substantial fuel storage.

Interior Volume

Popular yacht profiles with sweeping, low-volume interior space designs on faster yachts often present a chic line that looks gorgeous from the outside, but interiors often tell another story. Low ceiling heights, odd angles, and tight spaces are not comfortably livable over the days of a long journey.

High volume spaces onboard our Bering luxury explorer yachts allow installation of normal, home-sized appliances, real storage space, and high ceiling clearances of 7’2”. That translates to a home-away-from-home feel onboard, with room to breathe and enjoy your voyage.

… But I’m in a Hurry and Need a Faster Yacht

Yes, the higher speeds do seem attractive but consider that high-speed GRP yachts typically run only during daylight hours. Additionally, after several hours onboard a fast vessel, most passengers welcome the opportunity to take a break from a noisier, bumpier, less spacious environment.

Consider the 12-knot cruising speed of one of the Bering. This sturdy, steel-hulled yacht can run at that speed all day, every day, slowly and steadily making way along your itinerary. That equals 288 nautical miles per day, over 2,000 miles per week, on a smooth, comfortable, spacious, quiet yacht. That is incredibly fast for a luxury yacht.

When your need for speed surfaces and you want to go day-tripping onshore to various locations or just speed on ahead to a destination, we have a fix for that.

IS 40 KNOTS FAST ENOUGH? HOW ABOUT 50? ENTER THE BERING MARINE

fastest yacht tender

An incredibly versatile RIB tender, the Hydrofoil supported catamarans is fast, smooth, quiet, and comfortable.  Bering Marine  offers a fast, inflatable boat. Rising up on hydrofoils, this fabulous craft keeps passengers dry while smoothing waves and chop. Bering Marine ’s usage of Hydrofoils is what makes the vessels so unique. It can handle 6-foot seas at 40 knots, sips fuel at four nautical miles to the gallon, and can cover 5-6 times the distance of a fast yacht in short order. You can skip in and out of ports, around islands, or just let off steam with the throttle full out, taking in much more than a fast yacht allows. Travel fast on a slow boat with hydrofoil supported catamarans  from Bering Marine

The advantages of this combination make it a smart, efficient choice over a fast, primary yacht. Discover the true luxury of ocean travel, enjoying the best of both the fast and the slow, winning your own race to experience more in less time, in greater luxury. Where will your race take you?

This New Superyacht Will Be One of the World’s Fastest

By Katherine McLaughlin

Rendering of a superyacht sailing along a city coastline

Depending on who you ask, bigger may not always mean better, but in the world of superyacht designs , it does usually mean slower. However, this may soon change with Vanquish’s VQ115 Veloce , which the company has promised will be one of the fastest superyachts in the world more than 30 meters (about 98.5 feet) long.

Rendering of an exterior deck on a superyacht

The VQ115 is designed for entertaining.

Commissioned from the Dutch luxury yacht company by a repeat client, the VQ115 reaches an impressive 51 knots, which is a little under 59 miles per hour, and spans 35 meters or 114.8 feet. The 32-seat, three-deck powerboat is set to be delivered to its owner in North America later this year.

To power the nearly 100-ton boat, Vanquish plans to install three MTU Rolls-Royce 2600s engines that surface drives will back up. When running on the two engines, the vessel will have upwards of a 500-nautical-mile range in addition to an extra fuel tank, which can be used for cruising at 15 knots.

Rendering of the interior of a superyacht. White couches with blue accents

The yacht has a spacious saloon that leads to an outdoor deck.

Rendering of a jacuzzi on the deck of superyacht

A jacuzzi makes it easy to enjoy the water without getting into the ocean.

The Vanquish team tapped the expertise of Studio Delta, a naval architecture firm, to design the yacht’s hull to minimize drag and increase efficiency when pacing at top speeds. The rest of the exterior, designed by Guido de Groot, is similarly sleek and modern and made from aluminum.

On board, there will be no shortage of entertainment options. Two smaller Vanquish watercrafts, the VQ16 and VQ11, will respectively be housed on a tender bay and second starboard garage. A live bait tank, bar, saltwater jacuzzi, office space, cinema room, and multiple outdoor lounging and dining area are also part of the design.

Rendering of cabin with a queen bed on a superyacht

Cabin space was less of a priority as the client wanted more room for socialization.

Despite its monstrous size, the VQ115 notably lacks cabin space—there are only three sleeping rooms. However, this isn’t an oversight, rather the client’s specific desire for a vessel designed for entertaining and interaction. At its size, the superyacht is sure to deliver on that front in a large way.

It seems to be an unwritten rule in superyachting that bigger is better as yachts get taller and fatter, packed to the gunwales and beyond with vast acres of deck and floor space at every level. Well, rules, unwritten or otherwise, are there to be broken and Guido Krass, owner of SilverYachts, has a big enough hammer to do it.

A German industrialist, Krass is clearly no follower of convention. His philosophy from the start was to build slender, lightweight yachts that would travel very economically at high speeds through challenging conditions, requiring a higher length-to-beam ratio than is commonly accepted. The intention was to create craft with exceptional performance, tremendous range and very capable seakeeping.

Knowing what a hard sell that might be on paper, he took the unusual step of creating a shipyard and building the yacht first, before seeking a buyer. It gave him other advantages too, removing deadlines and freeing budget constraints. “We wanted to build something of outstanding quality,” he says.

Espen Øino was the naval architect charged with turning that dream into a reality. What he came up with was a semi-displacement shallow draught design that espoused the lightweight slender concept. “There is actually nothing revolutionary about the design,” Øino says. “Fifty years ago before the kind of ultra-high output (and consumption) diesels that we’re used to today, high length:beam ratio was the route to high speed. And an easily driven hull has many other benefits, chiefly great efficiency and excellent seakeeping.”

Silver Fast ’s build

As if a maverick approach to design and marketing wasn’t enough, the commissioning of such a craft was equally free thinking. European yards struggled with the concept so Krass looked to Australia, a country with huge experience in fast aluminium ferries and high speed commercial and military craft.

“They build boats that operate consistently and reliably in all weathers and at high speed – they have a huge amount of know-how in this field,” says Krass. What the Australians lack is experience of custom yacht building, so he brought in experienced shipwrights from Europe to ensure a standard of finish that matched his requirements.

The build process was kept simple – conventional shaftdrive, well-designed systems and large technical spaces. “Our philosophy throughout the whole project was KISS: keep it stupidly simple,” says Krass. “A lot of commercial expertise went into creating a craft designed with the operator and owner in mind, not simply the easiest way for the yard to put it together.”

It’s a brave and free-thinking approach and one that appears to be working for him: the yacht you see here is the fourth in a decade from the yard based in Henderson, near Perth, Western Australia.

SilverYachts’ narrow, fast design

The concept remains constant across the quartet: rather than padding out the beam and extending the height, Silver yachts are shapely low-profile darts. Subtle is not often a word associated with €80 million, 77 metre yachts but it applies here. Silver Fast , which is currently for sale , stands out among a sea of bright white superyachts by being low, narrow and very sleek.

There is more than a nod to executive jet aircraft design here, with a rounded raked fuselage-like superstructure. The all-aluminium construction is unsullied by stripes or other cosmetic adornments – there is a purity to the aesthetic that is rare in craft of this calibre. Although almost identical in profile to 2012 sistership Smeralda , the simple step of finishing the yacht in a single dark shade of metallic silver rather than the previous twin tone colours makes a massive difference, suggesting quiet confidence and allowing the design rather than the colour scheme to hold sway.

But it isn’t just the look that lends itself to aircraft comparisons; this yacht fulfils the lightweight brief too. The gross tonnage of under 1,000GT is half that of some yachts of comparable length. Partly, of course, that’s because the pared-back beam and height mean there is physically less yacht. But a large part of the weight saving is thanks to the aluminium honeycomb construction of much of the interior.

Silver Fast ’s layout

The layout, bar a couple of changes, is essentially the same as Smeralda . A sundeck tops the yacht with its horseshoe of sofa around two tables, complemented by a central bar area and a spa pool aft. Loose Paola Lenti furniture adds a little flexibility and colour, while a three-stack mast above sees all the navigation scanners, domes and antennae colour coded a uniform black.

The next deck down is given over wholly to the owner. The master cabin is vast and offers expansive views through the forward windows.

A quirky indoor sunpad, accessed up a few steps, sits forward of the berth, offering a very private place to read or watch the yacht entering or leaving port. To the rear of the deck is the owner’s lounge, with sliding doors opening onto a private terrace. A sweeping staircase links to the VIP guest accommodation on the main deck, comprised of three spacious doubles.

The well-lit saloon truncates in a cosy media lounge at the rear of this level, featuring well stocked shelves behind a deep comfortable sofa and flatscreen TV. You pass through this area on your way to the “winter garden”. Dividing the accommodation from the large aft cockpit, it’s so named because the floor-to-ceiling glass panels that surround it ensure a clement climate regardless of the cool night outside. It’s equally useful in the 40-degree heat of an Abu Dhabi afternoon. Two large circular tables infill to create a massive dining area for 20.

And in more temperate climes every glass panel retracts to finish up stacked and hidden from view.

A large tender garage fills the lower deck beneath the touch and go helicopter pad on the foredeck, with space for two 7.7 metre tenders (custom built by SilverYachts in matching metallic silver) to be launched via gullwing doors. Eight crew cabins are found on the lower deck, along with the rest of the guest accommodation: four large en suites. Two further crew cabins sit aft of this lower-deck guest space – perfect for nannies or security.

The beach club has benefited from the tenders being mounted forward, as well as the length stretch from 73 to 77 metres between hulls two and three. A steam room, sauna, massage area and hairdressing station surround space for exercise, complete with a recess in the floor to take a running machine. The sloping aft wall is actually the transom of the yacht – itself a mere button-press away from lifting to gain access to the “beach” – the large teak-laid swim platform complete with more Paola Lenti furniture.

The interior design of Silver Fast

While the layout is very close to that of Smeralda, the execution is quite different. Designed by the same company – Vain Interiors of Germany – the most obvious variation is in the finish. Where bulkheads of the former boat were high-gloss walnut, Silver Fast is finished in a more self-effacing open-grain teak. The rather formal full-length saloon sofas have been usurped by more intimate areas formed of four smaller sofas complemented by comfortable club chairs around a pair of low marble-topped tables, giving greater versatility. Greys and browns predominate, lending a gently masculine aura set off perfectly by white framed monochrome prints. Staircases are clad in stitched mid-grey leather matched by the handrails, and carpets are of grey silk.

It’s a timeless décor that feels cosy without being cloying, confident without ever being brash.

Sea trialing Silver Fast

But all this form is nothing without function and a 3am start (timed around customs clearance and to avoid disturbing crew leave) for an 80-mile run to Dubai represents an ideal test at sea. We slip out of Abu Dhabi and head north west into the darkness. The bridge is a haven of order and, above all, quietness. The engineering on this new hull has been tweaked to incorporate extended shaft-lines, a new propeller design and tuned engine mounts, which combine to give the sensation of being pulled along by an invisible thread from a ship just over the horizon. Only the tachometers in the headlining give any clue that the two MTU 16V 4000 engines are running at 1,400rpm for a log reading of 18 knots. Some 112,000 litres of diesel give us about 4,500 nautical miles at this speed. Despite the semi-displacement hull there is zero sensation of bow lift, as the slender entry slices effectively through the rolling swell. The reality matches the concept perfectly: the experience completely embodies Krass’s concept and Øino’s execution.

With a top end of nearly 30 knots this is a fast boat – fast flat-out, fast at cruise. The benefit is clear: a cruise of 18 knots gives a 50 per cent increase in range compared to conventional yachts that typically cruise long distance at 12.

“To put that in perspective, we gain 150 miles over a conventional yacht for every 24 hours at sea,” the captain says.

Silver Fast’s potential owner

SIlver Fast is currently for sale , but what kind of owner is SilverYachts going after with this new breed of yacht?

“We’re appealing to a new breed of buyers with this yacht,” says Krass. “Every buyer so far has been under 40. People buy these yachts because they fulfil a niche for covering ground which extends the range of a week’s charter considerably or allows an owner to travel further within a specific time-frame. Shallow draught means that when they get there, they can get into bays or harbours that other 80 metre yachts can’t get near. So they have a boat that will allow them to do what they want when and where they want to do it.”

SilverYachts’ Middle East agent Hisham Abushakra sums it up perfectly: “You buy a Range Rover because it does everything well. It will operate as well in the Arctic as it will in the desert. You can drive it at 100mph on the freeway, park it outside Raffles Hotel and it will fit in. This yacht is like that. What do you want to do with your yacht this week? Cover distance, cruise slowly, explore off the beaten track, sail into Monaco, entertain friends and family, charter? Whatever you want, this yacht will do it.”

The Best Inflatable Yacht Tenders

Photo of author

Investing in the best inflatable yacht tenders will amp up your relaxation and make boarding your yacht much easier when you take it out for a spin.

Yachting has been one of the favorite pastimes and leisures of many SoCal water adventurers. And when it comes to boarding your yacht, tenders are staples in boarding to and fro the yacht.

Here are the best inflatable tenders you can use for your holiday fun on the yacht.

6 Best Inflatable Yacht Tenders for 2023

  • Takacat 260 LX Innovative Tender
  • 12′ Saturn Kaboat
  • Newport Vessel
  • Zodiac Cadet RIB ALU DL
  • HydroForce Mirovia Pro 10’10” Inflatable Boat

1. Takacat 260 LX Innovative Tender

Takacat 260 LX is a custom-made PVC designed innovative tender. The inflatable boat features an air deck floor for a high tensile rigid hull core. It has an aerodynamic bow design that will get you over the rough and choppy waters to your yacht in no time.

With Takacat, you don’t have to worry about boarding your mothership wet as it has a new open transom and raised deck to keep water out and the floor dry. This heavy-duty, innovative tender has let go of the old and heavier traditional aluminum design and replaced it with innovative materials.

This design makes the tender lightweight and easy to use because of the drop stitch fabrics for the high-pressure removable floor. It boasts convenience through its fully removable Tube Transom, which makes rolling and folding this inflatable yacht tender super easy to store and carry.

What makes it even better is that the seams are chemically bonded with glue, which is advantageous for foldable inflatables as welded seams tend to become brittle and leak. Like a true inflatable catamaran yacht tender, Takacat LX 260 stands out with its innovative open bow, making it versatile and the best inflatable yacht tender for diving , swimming, snorkeling, or transporting from the shore to your yacht.

It has a powerful outboard of two to eight hp to transport approximately two people comfortably. Power, comfort, and safety make Takacat the first and best choice among your many yacht tender options.

2. 12′ Saturn Kaboat

Saturn Kaboat is a crossover between a kayak and an inflatable boat. What’s good about the Saturn is you have the choice to paddle around like in a kayak as it now comes with its own rowing oars. Or if you want to save your energy and fuel it as a motorboat with its gas or electric engine.

Being lightweight and narrow, Saturn Kaboat will zip you through the water to your yacht faster. It will also allow you to explore tight spots bigger tenders can’t access. This yacht tender is portable and will fit into a medium carry bag for easy transport when traveling.

Two people can board this yacht tender with its 500 lbs weight loading capacity. This yacht tender can also be a versatile boat for many sailing options as it also features a drop-stitch air floor to ensure stability.

3. Newport Vessel

The inflatable sport boat yacht tender is a USCG rated triple-layered coated PVC boat, including aluminum-made materials. The anti-corrosive-coated PVC materials ensure protection against corrosion, sun, salt, and other elements that can destroy the inflatable boat.

The quality lightweight yacht tender is heavy duty and can board many people without compromising cruising performance. It comes in aluminum framed marine wood flooring, bench seat, and oars.

4. Zodiac Cadet RIB ALU DL

The rigid inflatable boat is a good choice to use as an inflatable yacht tender as it has integrated transom supports for safe transport. This inflatable tender features a safe and comfortable ride with its removable cushion seats, foot pump, oars, and repair kit.

Additionally, you will not have a problem lifting the Zodiac to where you want it as it has four handles for easy carry, lifting points, and towing eyes.

It is possible to fit a fuel tank in this inflatable boat’s bow storage or an anchor locker. The floor is anti-slip, which helps passengers not slip while boarding and unboarding the yacht tender.

5. HydroForce Mirovia Pro 10’10” Inflatable Boat

Hydro-Force Mirovia is a four high-density nylon PVC with a high-pressure inflatable keel for buoyancy. The heavy-grade PVC resists UV degradation, abrasion, and other destructive elements.

It’s lightweight because the floorboards and transom are made of marine-grade plywood, which you can just roll up when storing. Additionally, this boat does not take time to assemble, as it does not need complicated tools.

It is protected against impacts and friction with its extra tough strake. With its load capacity of 1411 lbs, you can board four adults and one child in the Hydro-force Mirovia Tender.

6. Scout 365

One of the versatile inflatable boats is the Scout 365, which can be used for many water sports activities in any body of water. This inflatable boat fits two people and ensures portability as it can roll up into a bag for easy storage.

The unique Scout design features one of the best lightweight, durable, and compact inflatable boats. You will have no trouble standing up on this inflatable tender as it offers stability with its high bow and flat bottom, combined with a small outboard motor for gas or electric use.

Yacht Tender Safety Tips

best inflatable yacht tenders

When cruising out in the water, you should primarily think about boat safety as the wind and water conditions are not predictable. It’s better to come prepared all of the time. Here are some safety tips when on a yacht tender.

  • The weather and tide may be unpredictable, but it is best to check the weather report to know what you’re in for when cruising the SoCal waters
  • Always wear a life jacket when boarding your yacht tender, no matter how short the trip is
  • If your boat does not come with oars, bring one to come prepared when your engine fails you
  • Always make sure to have a means of communication with the authorities and other important contacts
  • Don’t overload your yacht tender; always stick to the weight capacity
  • Make sure to read your yacht tender manual, so you know how to maneuver your boat and to know what outboard motor fits
  • Always keep a puncture repair kit ashore and in the yacht in case of emergency.

Insider Advice

Yachting is fun, but every time you’re out in the water is a risk to your safety. When boarding your yacht tender, it’s essential to know how to maneuver your inflatable dinghy safely. Taking the  California-approved boating safety courses  should be a priority when you plan on purchasing the best yacht tender.
