WAY OF WADE: DAZZLE AND DISGUISE

One of the most elusive players in the league, Wade can attack, stop on a dime, make the right pass, or pull up for a jumper. His textbook pump fake fools defenders left and right. WW1 [British] naval ships did the exact same with their ‘razzle dazzle’ camouflage pattern painted to deceive other ships from being able to decipher the direction, distance, or the speed the ship was traveling.

To convey deception, initial concepts find the WoW2 line mirroring dress shoe silhouettes, from longer vamps to the architecture of the midsole. The outsole design relies heavily on the misleading, multi-directional Dazzle Camo pattern to provide specific function in designated areas.

Way of Wade 2 Low features a zig-zag pattern that acts as an eyestay, provides lateral support and forms a W from the side. In select color ways, Dazzle Camo makes it difficult to discern what’s material and what’s graphic print. Taken from the Heat jersey, an italicized No. 3 is displayed on the vamp.

The Way of Wade 2 highlights Dazzle Camo in a two-dimensional way whereas the WOW2 Low and WOW2 Encore explore the multi-directional pattern in 3D, resulting in faceted surfaces molded into the high quality leathers.

The WOW2 outsole brings out the versatility of Dazzle Camo. Primarily used to distract, the vorticist design actually serves as great traction as well, with lines being strategically placed to provide either deceleration, acceleration or flexibility.

With a break in the schedule, the Miami Heat got together in South Beach last night for an early celebration of Dwayne Wade's 32nd birthday. The party took place aboard the Li-Ning yacht, which was designed with graphics similar to those used in the INSA 'Way of Wade' mural .

Part of D-Wade's birthday celebration included a display of this season's footwear lineup, including a few never-before-seen styles.

Dwyane Wade and Li-Ning's Way of Wade Reveals New All City 11 Silhouette

Debuting in way of wade’s signature “sunrise” colorway, the all city 11 combines design language both new and familiar with upgraded performance tech..

Dwyane Wade and Li-Ning’s partnership turned 10 this year, and what sets it apart from other NBA -star-teams-with-sneaker-company initiatives is that Wade, in Michael Jordan -esque fashion, has been given his own “brand-within-a-brand,” Way of Wade . The Way of Wade 10 — D-Wade’s 10th official signature sneaker — dropped earlier this year and now Li-Ning is following it up with the All City 11 , a team-focused model whose past iterations have been worn by other Li-Ning athletes like D’Angelo Russell and CJ McCollum .

The All City 11 has debuted in Way of Wade’s signature “Sunrise” colorway, which combines a stark black upper with a gradient fade midsole that moves from orange to pink. Its style and shape similarities to the Way of Wade 10 are intentional, as Li-Ning used the WoW 10’s design language as a building block for the All City 11. However, it’s not a mere rehash as it boasts a glut of improved performance features. A softer, more comfortable knit material is used on the upper, while a new forefoot design aims to prevent rollover. Midsoles feature Li-Ning’s signature BOOM foam for cushioning and support, and also use a TPU wrap to increase stability.

Way of Wade 10

The Way of Wade 10 is one of the best basketball shoes of the year with its ultra-bouncy cushion, one-to-one fit, and grippy traction.

There have only been a handful of NBA athletes to reach at least ten signature sneakers, and now Dwyane Wade is one of them. Congratulations to Li-Ning, the Way of Wade Brand, and the man himself on this accomplishment. The Way of Wade 10 also deserves praise because there’s so much to be hopeful for with its performance. They may have you feeling like you’re about to jump out of the gym.

Way of Wade 10 Traction

Traction performance with the Way of Wade 10 was excellent. I ended up playing on 4 indoor and 2 outdoor courts. All the courts were of varying cleanliness, and yet the Way of Wade 10s performed well under all conditions. Even when the outsole collected loads of dust, the rubber compound still reacted surprisingly well. If you somehow end up having problems with the traction for these when you’re out playing, I’m willing to bet it’s more of a floor problem rather than a shoe problem.

The grooves don’t have much space between them, so small rocks and dust accumulate quickly. The pattern is primarily radial and extends up the medial side, so you have coverage when you drag your feet on hard crossovers and pivots. The only downside is durability on outdoor floors. While it still grips the concrete and blacktop well, the rubber is too pliable to last any significant amount of time.

Way of Wade 10 Cushion

These are the bounciest shoes I’ve tested this year. Imagine adidas Boost , but even a notch bouncier. It felt more natural to adapt to the bounciness for linear movements since I’ve had experience with somewhat similar cushion setups in running shoes. Basketball isn’t just filled with linear movements though. You’re constantly required to shift movements from linear to lateral repeatedly. It took up until my 3rd session playing with the shoes for me to really start to appreciate the bouncy cushion setup more for its comfort level.

There is a gradual offset for the cushion stack height, so the forefoot feels lower to the ground. You’re not going to get an extremely low-to-the-ground feel, but it’s a good enough mix of cushion and court feel.

The midsole is full-length BOOM. Although there is midsole caging, it’s made of a soft TPU, so the Pebax-based foam has breathing room. Comfort is A+, and your legs will thank you for using these. Once you get to adapt to it, you’ll enjoy these.

Way of Wade 10 Materials

The upper is a textile mesh knit build. The textile used even has some slight elasticity, which helps it conform to your feet. The eyestays are a thick overlay, and they sometimes dug into my feet when I wasn’t wearing my ankle braces. The tongue is fairly padded, matches the height of the ankle collar, and wraps around my foot well. The laces remind me of the Nike GT Cut laces. They are round and soft so they had a tendency to loosen up when I didn’t tie my shoes securely during my first session. If you double-lace and tighten them correctly, it works well. Overall, it’s a comfortable feel.

It’s also interesting to note that these are light for what they offer in terms of tech. They’re lighter than both the Li-Ning Wade 808 2 and the Li-Ning Wade 808 2 Ultra .

Way of Wade 10 Fit

Li-Ning used to recommend on their product listings to go up half a size. That’s probably because Way of Wade 10 fits snugly in the midfoot area. I wouldn’t say it’s as snug as Nike’s KD shoes though, like the KD 15. If you want a snug, one-to-one fit, going true to size works. Going up at least half a size is recommended if you wear ankle braces like I do or have wide feet. The toe box area also flares out and isn’t narrow, so if you’re someone like me who enjoys some breathing room for your toes, the toe box in these should accommodate you.

Way of Wade 10 Support

There’s a thin full-length carbon fiber shank plate that adds both stability and bounciness. The shoe can’t be bent or twisted easily. It’s so thin, in fact, that some users have complained about the plate cracking. Fortunately, I didn’t have that experience. Li-Ning also added lateral TPU stabilizers that help keep your feet on the footbed. They’re slightly soft like the cushion caging. That worked well for me since they didn’t hurt my feet when I made hard cuts or made sudden stops. If you’re not a fan of hard plastic pieces on the sides of your shoe, these may be a better alternative.  

The circular carbon fiber piece is also supposedly there to help with ankle support. Part of me thinks it’s just there for design purposes, but hopefully, it does actually help. It reminded me of the Kobe 9 ankle and heel support piece. I loved those shoes, but the carbon fiber piece near the ankle in those shoes sometimes dug into my feet. The Way of Wade 10, on the other hand, did not, again thanks to the softer TPU material surrounding the carbon fiber piece. To round it all up, the adequately wide forefoot base helped with overall stability and traction for the shoes.

Way of Wade 10 Overall

The Way of Wade 10 is a great sneaker and one that many will enjoy. The traction is excellent in all court conditions. The cushion is one of the bounciest available today with full-length BOOM. The materials are not premium, but they do the job and make the shoe light for what it offers. Support isn’t terrible at all with the full-length carbon fiber plate and additional support features. It’s one of the best basketball shoes of the year.

I clicked because from a far the shoes looked so pretty, but when I inspected it closely, the plastic pink bottom looks tacky when you take everything in

I’ve been collecting shoes and playing in them for 30 years. These could be the best model I have ever worn. Obviously I’ve got a lot of old favorites like the Aggress Force, Big Flyer, VisZoom Uptempo, etc. Loved the TMac6 and Gil Zero from Adidas. The pivot to performance for Jordan has been great with the XX8 and 32 in particular. BrandBlack had some killer models early on. But these have it all and even have some things I’ve never felt in a shoe. They are the springiest shoe I’ve ever played in, with 40+ years and an extra 40 pounds I’m not exactly a high flyer but these made me want to get off the ground. The Boom isn’t as cushy or thick as the Wow9 Infinity but it’s more responsive and gave me less foot fatigue just the same. The upper, specifically on the sunrise pair, breathes great everywhere except the padded collar and truly gives a 1to1 fit like I’ve never felt. The traction and forefoot tooling gave me the freedom to try moves, pivots and changes of directions that I hadn’t in years, tremendous multidirectional coverage from both the outsole and midsole. This shoe is as close to perfect as you will find IMHO.

I wouldn’t buy anything from Way of Wade. The customer service is terrible. My shoes split at the side seam after 12 games, and they told me they didn’t care and it was outside the return window. Save your money and buy something else. I can provide pictures if anyone wants to see them.

I bought a pair of Wade all City “Family Love” shoes and after just a couple months of use, the tip of the shoe started to peel off. It’s an obvious manufacturing defect but when I contacted customer service, they gave me the standard 30 day return policy line. I can understand the 30 day return policy but it’s too bad a company with Dwayne Wade’s name attached to it won’t stand behind their product.

How Did Dwyane Wade Do That?

Social media is buzzing today about NBA player Dwyane Wade, who celebrated his 32nd birthday this past weekend aboard the 130-foot Venetian Lady in South Florida. The Miami Heat star managed to turn the yacht into a floating piece of artwork from superstructure to waterline — and inside, too.

“We’ve done this in the past, just not on such a large scale,” said Mike Simpson, owner of Biscayne Lady Yacht Charters, which operates_ Venetian Lady_ for weddings and event charters out of Miami. “It pushed the limit on what I’ve seen done on any yacht.”

Simpson worked with Bruno Dede, the owner of Metro Signs Inc. in Hollywood, Florida, whose Metro Wrapz division created and installed the graphics on the yacht’s exterior and interior. Dede says his company wraps many things, including lots of cars, and has done yachts before, but never one as big as Venetian Lady. That’s true inside and out, since the yacht’s 8-foot ceilings are what attract many basketball players in the first place.

Both Simpson and Dede say Wade’s event charter was put together quickly, with the graphics moving from conception through design to installation inside of a week. The actual installation process took 10 people 24 work hours to complete, Dede says. His company creates the wrapping material in-house, then affixes it to the yacht using a 3M film whose edges are sealed, keeping it attached even while the yacht is under way yet still making it removable with about a day’s work by a half-dozen people. According to Dede, the process leaves no lasting effects on the yacht’s exterior paint job.

Wade got the idea for the black-and-white design from a display that was on the side of a building during a recent Miami-wide art event, Simpson says. That image was brought to Dede’s team, which turned it into the indoor and outdoor designs that ended up all over the yacht as well as on a custom jacket that Wade had designed elsewhere so that his personal attire would match the evening’s graphic theme.

“We specialize in doing amazing things in a short period of time,” Dede said, adding that the price for his firm’s work varies depending on what clients want. For something like Wade’s concept, he said, “It’s not cheap.”

The price for the wrap job was in addition to the charter fee for Venetian Lady , which Simpson says usually books at $150 to $200 a head for a 100-person event.

“That’s everything that people get for a basic charter for four hours,” he said. “This was not basic.”

Ira Winderman: Heat can’t let history get in way of potential Donovan Mitchell pursuit

MIAMI — Damian Lillard. Damian Lillard. Damian Lillard. Damian Lillard. Damian Lillard.

(Wait, get me a rewrite.)

Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell. Donovan Mitchell.

(Because, yes, here we go again.)

There was a point, what now seems like decades ago (because it actually was), when the biggest of the biggest for the Miami Heat, the deals that actually happened, arrived as stunning revelations.

“Alonzo Mourning is coming ... here?” (On the eve of Pat Riley’s first Heat season, no less.)

“They just traded the entire team for Tim Hardaway?” (In the middle of a season, no less.)

“The Heat are getting Shaq?” (Some on the Heat coaching staff had no idea.)

“LeBron told Jim Gray what?” (Dwyane Wade to this day insists he, too, did not know.)

Now, of course, it is different. NBA “insiders” start at the point of conjecture and speculation, so as not to be left behind. Social media can make anyone one of those NBA “insiders.” Basically, it has become a Woj-eats-Shams world, with enough nuance to the debate shows to cast opinion as fact.

So what do we know at the moment of the chances of Donovan Mitchell becoming this summer’s Damian Lillard for the Heat?

We know the Heat will always circle a potentially available star, less concerned about perceptions of failure than of opportunity otherwise lost. Riley said as much in his recent season-ending comments.

“There’s no doubt we would go for it,” Riley said earlier this month when asked about another offseason star search. “We’ve always been that way.”

As they were last summer, when Lillard made it clear he wanted out of Portland and (a bit too clearly) that he wanted to go to Miami.

For weeks, months, the Lillard link to the Heat was real, even as Trail Blazers general manager Joe Cronin refused to take the Heat’s calls.

Then the Bucks jumped in, Lillard was relocated. And the Heat patiently waited for the next big thing.

Mitchell potentially is the next big thing.

No, no Lillard-like get-me-out-of-here ultimatum.

And, yes, potentially more amenable to simply first getting his money locked in on an extension with the Cavaliers and then considering, if desired, new vistas.

But for as much sense as Lillard, at 33, made last summer for the Heat, even more so does Mitchell, at 27. As it is, the Heat made a play for Mitchell before he was dealt from Utah to Cleveland two years ago.

Of course, the Heat getting the volume scorer they need does not necessarily mean Mitchell pushing to be the volume scorer the Heat want, nor does it mean the Cavaliers acquiescing to such a scenario (with it still very early in that stage of the game, and with a Riley-Dan Gilbert history far more complex than Riley-Cronin).

But with Mitchell on the clock with his contract, eligible to opt out in the 2025 offseason, there is far more of a hammer available to dictate destination. (With lessons learned from Lillard’s camp about how not to publicly dictate desired destination.)

As for the notion of the Heat lacking the draft capital to compete against the assets of the Knicks or Nets, consider that the Cavaliers, with Evan Mobley, Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen, are in win-now mode, with homecourt in each of the past two postseasons.

From that standpoint, the Heat have assets ready to go (Tyler Herro, Terry Rozier, Duncan Robinson, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Nikola Jovic, and enough draft capital to compete in that regard, as well).

In addition, with the dramatic changes in the new collective-bargaining agreement, Cleveland waiting for next season’s February trade deadline to consider a Mitchell move ultimately could prove dramatically limiting, with new rules going into effect limiting what teams can take back in trades (first apron) or even removing the ability to aggregate contracts (second apron) to match Mitchell’s $35 million salary.

Yes, the Heat getting themselves linked to a Mitchell pursuit could further extend the narrative of coming up short in another chase (think Kevin Durant 1.0, Kevin Durant 2.0, Kevin Durant 3.0).

But after such a public chase of Lillard last summer, how could the Heat not do their due diligence if there is even an iota of Mitchell shaking free? Remember, Lillard targeted the Heat because of his friendship with Bam Adebayo. Also consider, Mitchell has made a point of playing in the Miami Pro League in the summer alongside his friend Adebayo.

With Lillard, the Damian daily news began in earnest in late June, in the wake of what became a public trade push. With Mitchell, we stand six weeks ahead of that schedule.

So, for now, it is clear what comes next.

Trigger the Search and the Replace keys. For every “Damian Lillard” a year ago sub in a “Donovan Mitchell.”

In that regard, consider this an offseason of wash, rinse, repeat.
