Sheer magic to sail! The Sadler 25 is considered a fast and seaworthy yacht, capable of out pacing larger boats with impressive performance. Not only is she quick, but significant tumblehome, transom hung rudder and bold sheer, make her a particularly attractive yacht too.

The boat benefits from a clean, well maintained and fully functional Beta inboard diesel, relatively new sails and plenty of other upgrades.

Built in 1980, she's one of the later 'improved' models, giving an extra 2 foot of mast height adding to her already impressive performance.

The boat would make a safe, solid cruiser (several have crossed the Atlantic) competitive racer or a combination of both. Either way, the new owner will certainly have something to be proud of.

History of Sadler Yachts

Sadler Yachts began its journey as a reputable boat manufacturer in the year 1972. Founded by brothers, Martin and Mike Sadler in Southampton, England, the company quickly gained recognition for its high-performing and reliable seaworthy vessels. The initial models produced by Sadler Yachts included the Sadler 25 and the Sadler 32, both of which were greatly appreciated for their build quality, design, and excellent sailing capabilities.

In the 1980s, designer David Sadler teamed up with Martin Sadler to introduce the Sadler 34, a boat model highly regarded for its double-skinned hull construction and unsinkable design. The company continued to grow and evolve, producing innovative and advanced boat models, including the Sadler Barracuda and the Sadler 29 - the latter of which remains one of the most popular cruising yachts in the UK to this day.

Over the years, Sadler Yachts underwent several management changes. In 2008, the company ceased operations but its legacy lived on with the formation of Sea Otter Boats, which produced Sadler Yachts under license. However, in 2019, the all rights and moulds for Sadler and Starlight Yachts were bought by Fortis Yachts Limited, headquartered in Dorset, England, keeping the prestigious legacy of Sadler Yachts alive.

A Sadler 25 finished well up in the results of the 1980 OSTAR singlehanded transatlantic race, despite being the smallest boat to compete. Another recently made a fast transatlantic passage in 2009 as an 'unofficial' ARC entry. despite hitting debris whilst at 8 knots and breaking her rudder. The boat arrived in the Caribbean with jury rudder, still faster than several other bigger boats officially in the race.

These Sadlers are always popular and this is a nice example. With bilge keels, the cruising ground is huge and they open up some excellent budget mooring options. This one benefits from a relatively recent engine and the hull has had a full and professional osmosis treatment about ten years ago. She is set up for short handed sailing and is easily managed single handed and her blue hull sets her apart from the rest. Below decks, her set up with a good sized V berth up forward, a traditional pilot berth port aft and a converting dinette in the saloon. The galley is a simple but practical linear affair. The current owner is reluctantly selling a well-loved boat that has been sensibly maintained.

Sadler 25 circa 1977, launched 1979, sloop rig with Yanmar 1GM10 engine from 2001. ‘Murmur’ has been in the same family ownership since new, with the current owner’s late husband having fitted out the interior after buying the boat new and then launching her in 1979. The Sadler 25 was designed by David Sadler to be the perfect mix between a cruising yacht and a racing yacht, to provide the best of both worlds. Praised for it’s deck layout, the Sadler 25 is a joy to sail and handle, even when shorthanded.  Now ready to offer lots of fun and enjoyment to someone new, Murmur’s owner is keen to find this special boat a lovely new home.

• Sadler 25 Yacht

When the Sadler 25 first emerged in 1974, the design was hailed as an inspiration by David Sadler, who had evolved this from his initial Contessa 26 design. The Contessa was a classic of its time, being a cruising development of the Swedish Folkboat, with the traditional long keel, slack bilge and easy motion at sea, so highly valued by enthusiasts of this type of boat. Windward ability and rugged performance in a blow were qualities associated with this design.

David Sadler being a competitive designer, set out to improve the design in two important respects, being:

• Enhanced light weather performance, by moving to fin and skeg configuration
• Improved stiffness and reduction of rolling down wind, by tightening up the line of bilge to give greater “form stability”

The result of these endeavours was the Sadler 25, which emerged as a particularly attractive yacht with significant tumblehome (slight curvature inwards to the sheer line), transom hung rudder (for accessibility and more effective steering down wind), a bold sheer (which maintained a dryer boat upwind) and increased beam, to give more power to windward and reduction of rolling.

The result of all this was sheer magic – a new boat in the field of small cruisers which was fast and seaworthy. On the race course, David won in regattas on the South Coast and showed a clean pair of heels to larger boats. Several 25s concluded ambitious voyages, such as round Britain and transatlantic. The boat was a huge success and resulted in Sadler Yachts becoming well established in the field of small cruisers. This boat became a popular choice for those owners who wanted to add individual style to their boats, for which purpose Sadler supplied many part-finished boats to be completed by owners.

In about 1979, an improved version of the Sadler 25 emerged with much enhanced interior trim and with factory supplied mouldings for galley, chart table unit and bunk bases. At this stage, the height of rig was increased by about two feet, which gave enhanced performance and even better results in competition. Some 300 25s were built, until the design was phased out in 1981 to be replaced by the more spacious Sadler 26 with interior mouldings and polyurethane foam construction to provide unsinkability.

The Petter Mini 6 singe cylinder diesel engine was fitted as standard in most of the Sadler 25s upto about 1979 when the BMW single cylinder engine was installed in a number of boats. Other variations found in second- hand boats are the 12hp two stroke Dolphin engine (surprisingly effective if you can accept petrol) and the Yanmar 1GM 10hp single cylinder (probably the best installation).
