How to Make a Paper Plate Boat Craft

1. draw a line down the center of the paper plate..

construction paper sailboat craft

Half of your paper plate will be the hull of the boat and the other half will be turned into the boats sail.

2. On one side of the plate draw a triangle

I made two sides of the triangle curved. I did this so that it looks like the wind is making the sail billow out. However, if you’re doing this simple craft with young children, like preschoolers or kindergarteners, then just let them make a simple triangle in whichever way works best for them.

3. Cut along the lines.

Use a pair of scissors to cut out the sail and the hull. Cutting is a great way to help young kids develop their fine motor skills (the small muscles in their hands and fingers).

4. Paint the boat.

I kept this step simple. But this is a great way to let your kids create without constraint. Let them pick their favorite colors and make patterns across the hull of their ships.

5. Tear your dark blue and white paper into strips.

construction paper sailboat craft

I like to tear the paper strips because I like the way they mimic the waves. However you can also cut out the waves instead, if you want to work on fine motor skills with some scissor practice.

6. Glue down the paper strips in alternate colors, but set aside the last piece of blue paper.

construction paper sailboat craft

Although I used white and blue strips for the waves. I did this because those were the colors I already had. Try using different shades of blue, or even a little bit of green for a different effect.

Alternatively, you can also experiment with different materials. For example, try using strips of newspaper, paper towels or strips from a tissue paper square instead. Scrunched up blue tissue paper would also add a nice textural element to your ocean.

7. Glue down the semi-circle with the flat side facing upwards.

construction paper sailboat craft

8. Glue down the last strip of blue paper, overlapping with the bottom of the boat.

If you don’t want to do steps 6 and 7 in this order, you don’t have to. You can always glue the paper plate hull down last and then paint waves over the bottom with blue paint instead.

9. Glue the jumbo craft stick down the center of the page.

construction paper sailboat craft

Make sure that one end of the wooden sticks is underneath the inside of the paper plate halves. This will act as the mast for your paper plate ships.

10. Glue the sail to the top of the popsicle stick.

construction paper sailboat craft

I only made one sail for our boats. However, you can also use the same process make two or three smaller sails instead. Just like a schooner which has both back and front sails.

11. As an extra step, use a sharpie to draw on your boat.

construction paper sailboat craft

Let your kids decorate their sailboat craft however they like. My little girl decided to draw her family inside, while my son had a great time when he turned his picture into a pirate ship.

You can also add a school of rainbow fish in the deep sea or seagulls flying through the sky. If you have fish stickers on hand, this would be a wonderful way to add some extra detail to your paper boat.

How to Build & Float Your Own Mini Sailboat

construction paper sailboat craft

Crafting and outdoor exploration come together with this project—learn how to build a boat that floats and sails. The best part? You’ll only need to buy a couple of supplies because the main part of this barge is made from sticks that you find outside. Read on for the step-by-step instructions and you’ll soon have a ship to sail the high seas (or slow streams).

What You’ll Need

1 piece of paper (patterned scrapbook paper is nice, but plain construction paper also works)

2 craft sticks

string or twine

hot glue gun

14 sticks in similar sizes (5-6 inches long works well)

How to Make the Boat

1. Start by wrapping 12 the sticks together with your twine. We used Kid Made Modern Craft Twine ( target.com , $9.99) to add a pop of color, but white string would also work just fine. Tie one end of the twine to the end of one stick and wrap the string around a few more times, then move on to the next stick. Wrap the twine around that stick a few times and then use the same piece of twine to wrap the third stick and so on and so on until 12 of your sticks are connected. (You’ll use two elsewhere.) Don’t worry too much about how many times you loop around or how perfect your wrapping is. Knot off the twine on the last stick. Then, do the same thing on the opposite side of your sticks.

2. Wrap two sticks onto the bottom. Now add two more sticks, one on each end of your boat, to the bottom of your group of sticks. Again, tie a knot on one end of the stick then weave your twine in and out of the connected sticks, looping the twine around each stick and then around the stick on the bottom. Repeat for the second stick.

3. Cut 2 triangles out of your paper.  Ours measured 5-inches along the side and bottom, but you may want to adjust based on the length of your sticks. We used Kid Made Modern Print Palooza patterned paper ( target.com , $7.99 for 150 sheets). However, if you have plain construction paper, ask your child to decorate it with stickers, crayons, markers, or any other way you like.

4. Add the craft sticks as your mast. Line up the craft sticks along the edge of the triangle to create your mast. Use a hot glue to secure the craft sticks.

5. Glue the triangles together. Ask your child to cover the two triangles with glue, using the glue stick. Then, press them together to complete your sail.

6. Connect the sail to the raft. Slip the craft stick in between two of the sticks in the middle of your boat. Use a piece of twine to wrap around the craft stick and around the two middle sticks until it feels fairly secure. To give it extra support, add hot glue all around the area where the craft stick and twigs come together.

7. Sail your boat. Once the glue has cooled and dried, your craft is ready for its first voyage. Fill a baby pool or other vessel (even the bath tub!) with water and watch your homemade schooner float.

8. Create some wind. Want to get your boat moving faster? Use a straw to blow it across the water.

9. Take it to the park. For further experimentation, we took our model to the park so it could sail in a real stream. Even after several sails and a few capsizes, our sailboat has held up.

Happy sailing!

How to Make a Cute Origami Sail Boat!

construction paper sailboat craft

The Spruce / Chrissy Pk

Completed Origami Sail Boat

This is a very simple traditional origami model, the origami sailboat makes a sweet little decoration perfect as decor at a kids party because they stand up, make great table place cards or, folded flat, use as a card embellishment.

You could also attach a long thread and use as a garland, hanging display or baby mobile. There are so many possibilities with this easy to remember the origami model.

This project requires just one piece of square paper. It works best with origami paper that has a design or color that is different on each side.

You can use slightly thicker paper, such as the craft paper used in the tutorial, which has a blue-and-white side and is six inches.

If you're new to origami this is the perfect model to start with and would be great as an origami project for kids. You could also put these little boats in envelopes as a cute card.

Folding the Paper Square to Make a Triangle

Have your paper boat-side up. If you want your sails to be white, have the color-side facing up.

Now fold the paper diagonally. Bring the bottom corner of the paper up to the top and unfold. Next, fold the right corner over to the left and unfold.

Refolding the Paper to Make a Rectangle.

Turn the paper over to the other side, and rotate it as shown.

Fold the paper in half, right to left, and unfold.

Fold the paper from bottom to top, and unfold.

Creating the Sails

Making sure the paper is still white-side up, fold the top and bottom corners to the central crease.

Bring the left and right corners inward together to the top, and then collapse the model as shown.

Insert Paper Corners Into Each Other

Fold the left sail down to the bottom, and then fold it back up. Leave about a centimeter overlap behind as shown.

Tuck the overlap into the pocket of the boat by gently opening it.

Create the Bottom of the Sailboat

Turn the boat over, and fold the bottom corner up to the center. This will be the stand.

Turn the model back over to the other side, and you're finished.

If you want the boat to be flat, you could use a little bit of glue or double-sided tape to stick it down.

Remember that origami takes practice, so take your time and fold as precisely as possible, and you will get a better result.

If you're more advanced with origami, you could also unfold the whole thing and reverse squash fold the bottom stand so it would have an internal pocket. If you're interested in more origami boats, try the traditional one .

Paper Bowl Jellyfish

Supplies needed.

  • Flat box (e.g. tissue box, cereal box)
  • Construction paper
  • Crayons, markers or colored pencils
  • Wooden dowel or chopstick
  • Modeling clay or a small piece of styrofoam
  • White acrylic paint
  • Colored acrylic or poster paint
  • Paint brush

STEP 1 Box Sailboat

1 Draw a pair of arcs.

Find a flat box such as a tissue box, cereal box or cake mix box to make into your boat's hull.

With the box's wide side facing up, draw an arc from end to end. The lowest point of the arc should be about 2 to 2½ inches from the bottom edge of the box. Make an identical arc on the opposite side of the box.

STEP 2 Box Sailboat

2 Cut out the box.

Cut the box along the arcs. Staple the side flaps.

STEP 3 Box Sailboat

3 Paint the box.

Prime the outside of the box with white acrylic paint. This first layer of paint should hide the box's print and original color.

Once the white paint dries, paint the box with the boat's final colors. You can use either acrylic or poster paint.

STEP 4 Box Sailboat

4 Cut two triangles.

Cut two right triangles on construction paper or regular copy paper. These two triangles will be your boat's sails—one sail should be slightly smaller than the other. Make them in proportion to the boat's box hull.

STEP 5 Box Sailboat

5 Decorate the sails.

Decorate both sides of the sail with crayons, markers, or colored pencils.

STEP 6 Box Sailboat

6 Glue the large sail to the mast.

A ship's mast is a straight post where the sails are attached. Make one using a wooden dowel or chopstick. The mast should be 3-4 inches taller than the large sail. If the dowel or chopstick is not long enough, tape two together, then trim to the desired height.

Glue the mast along the straight edge of the large sail.

STEP 7 Box Sailboat

7 Put more glue.

Put a bit more white glue on the mast except below the sail.

STEP 8 Box Sailboat

8 Roll the mast.

While holding the mast on both ends, carefully roll it once to glue the edge of the sail around the mast.

STEP 9 Box Sailboat

9 Glue the small sail.

Glue the small sail on the mast. This sail should be pointing in the opposite direction.

STEP 10 Box Sailboat

10 Add clay or styrofoam.

In order to attach the mast to the hull, you will need an anchoring material such as clay or a piece of styrofoam. Roll a small chunk of modeling clay into a ball or cut a piece of styrofoam into a small cube shape. Glue this at the center of the boat's hull.

STEP 11 Box Sailboat

11 Place the mast.

Stick the mast into the clay or styrofoam piece.

STEP 12 Box Sailboat

12 Enjoy your sailboat!

Wait for everything to dry before taking your boat for a pretend sail. Although your sailboat looks all set for a voyage, it's not made to sail on real water.

To begin, place the origami paper colored-side down on the flat surface. Fold the paper in half diagonally, creating a triangle . Then, unfold the triangle and fold the paper in half horizontally. Unfold the paper once again and bring the top two corners of the square together, forming a smaller triangle . Hold the left and right corners of the triangle and pull them apart while pushing the center downward, shaping the paper into a diamond .

Next, fold the bottom corner of the diamond up towards the top corner. Flip the paper over and repeat the previous step on the other side. Open the flaps on the left and right sides to create the sail of the boat. Fold the bottom edge of the paper up to create the hull of the sailboat.

It is important to note that specific origami instructions should be followed for the sailboat design you wish to create. Feel free to explore different origami sailboat designs, experiment with colors and patterns of origami paper, and enjoy the process of making unique sailboats.

What type and size of paper is best for making an Origami Sailboat?

When creating an Origami Sailboat , the choice of paper is essential in determining the final outcome. Consider the following options:

  • Origami paper: This is the go-to option for crafting Origami Sailboats . It is specifically designed for origami projects, offering a thin and lightweight texture. Typically, origami paper measures around 6 inches by 6 inches, which is suitable for most sailboat designs.
  • Paper for larger sailboats: If you’re planning to make larger sailboats, opt for larger-sized origami paper or any square paper of your preference. Keep in mind that using bigger paper will result in a bigger sailboat.
  • Regular paper: In the absence of origami paper, you can use regular paper such as printer paper or colored construction paper. Just ensure that the paper is square-shaped, as folding may be challenging with rectangular paper.
  • Paper thickness: The thickness of the paper plays a role in the sturdiness of your sailboat. Thicker paper will offer better shape retention, while thinner paper may be more delicate. Experiment with different thicknesses to find your personal preference.

Remember, the best paper for making an Origami Sailboat is one that you feel comfortable working with and allows you to achieve the desired folding and shaping. Happy folding!

Fun fact: Origami originated in Japan and has been practiced for over a thousand years. It is not only an art form but also a means to cultivate patience and attention to detail.

Step-by-Step Guide to Make an Origami Sailboat

Get ready to sail away on a creative journey as we dive into the step-by-step guide to crafting your very own origami sailboat . We’ll start by folding the paper diagonally and then move on to folding the corners to the center. Next, we’ll take a look at folding the bottom edges and folding the paper in half. Then, we’ll create the sail of our origami sailboat before adding those final finishing touches and adjustments . Let’s get folding and set sail on this origami adventure !

Step 1: Folding the Paper Diagonally

To create an origami sailboat , you will first need to fold the paper diagonally. Here are the steps:

Step 1: Start with a square piece of paper.

Step 2: Place the paper on a flat surface, with one corner pointing towards you.

Step 3: Fold the bottom corner diagonally up towards the opposite corner to create a triangle shape. Make sure to align the edges perfectly.

Step 4: To ensure a crisp crease, press down firmly along the fold.

Step 5: Unfold the paper back to its original square shape. You should now have a diagonal crease running from one corner to another.

Origami , an ancient Japanese art of paper folding, has been practiced since the 6th century. Its exact origins remain unknown, but it was initially used for ceremonies and eventually became a popular recreational activity. The word “ origami ” comes from the Japanese words “ oru ” (to fold) and “ kami ” (paper). Throughout the centuries, various folding techniques and designs, including the origami sailboat , have been developed. Today, origami serves as a widely enjoyed hobby that fosters creativity and provides relaxation.

Step 2: Folding the Corners to the Center

To fold the corners to the center in making an origami sailboat, follow these steps:

1. Unfold your folded paper to reveal the square shape.

2. Hold the paper with the unfolded side facing down.

3. Fold the top right corner diagonally towards the center of the paper.

4. Crease the fold well to secure it.

5. Repeat the same diagonal fold with the top left corner, bringing it towards the center.

6. Crease the fold firmly.

7. You should now have a triangular shape with two flaps on each side.

8. Fold both flaps inward towards the center, tucking them inside the triangular shape.

9. Press down to secure the folds.

10. After completing Step 2: Folding the Corners to the Center , you can proceed to the next step to continue creating your origami sailboat.

By following these instructions for Step 2 , you will successfully fold the corners to the center, creating the foundation for the rest of the origami sailboat.

Step 3: Folding the Bottom Edges

In Step 3, fold the bottom edges of the origami sailboat following these steps:

1. Turn the paper over so the folded diagonal line is facing downward.

2. Fold the bottom edge of the paper upwards, aligning it with the center crease.

3. Make a firm crease along the folded edge.

4. Repeat the same fold on the other side of the paper, bringing the bottom edge up to the center crease.

5. Ensure both folds are symmetrical and parallel.

6. Make a firm crease along the second folded edge.

7. Unfold the bottom edges back to their original position.

Following these steps will create a clean and precise fold along the bottom edges of the paper, forming a stable base for the origami sailboat to stand upright and sail smoothly.

Step 4: Folding the Paper in Half

  • Take the diagonally folded paper from Step 1.
  • Hold the top corner of the paper and fold it carefully to meet the bottom corner.
  • Ensure perfect alignment of the paper edges.
  • Press down firmly to create a sharp crease in the middle.
  • Unfold the paper to reveal a vertical folded line down the center.
  • Your paper is now folded in half, creating a clean and symmetrical shape for the base of your origami sailboat.

Pro-tip: When folding the paper in half, use your fingertips to gently guide the paper along the crease line for a smooth and precise fold.

Step 5: Creating the Sail of the Origami Sailboat

1. Fold the top edge of the paper diagonally to the bottom edge, firmly creasing the fold.

2. Unfold the previous step and repeat it in the opposite direction, firmly creasing the fold.

3. Rotate the paper so that one corner is pointing towards you.

4. Fold the left corner upwards, aligning it with the top center point of the paper, and crease the fold firmly.

5. Repeat the previous step with the right corner, folding it upwards and aligning it with the top center point of the paper, creasing the fold firmly.

6. Fold the bottom edge of the paper upwards, creating a small flap, and crease the fold firmly.

7. Open up the flap and tuck it into the pocket created by folding the corners to hold the sail in place.

I remember learning how to create the sail of an origami sailboat at a summer camp. One of the counselors showed us the steps, and it was mesmerizing to see a simple piece of paper transform into a boat with a beautiful sail . We spent the afternoon racing our sailboats in a small pond, proudly displaying our creations. This fun and memorable experience sparked my love for origami, and I have since continued to explore different origami designs and share the joy of creating with others.

Step 6: Finishing Touches and Adjustments

After completing the previous steps of folding the paper diagonally, folding the corners to the center, folding the bottom edges, folding the paper in half, and creating the sail of the origami sailboat , it’s time for step 6: finishing touches and adjustments.

To add finishing touches , smooth out any creases or wrinkles on the paper by gently running your fingers over them.

Next, ensure that all the folds are crisp and well-defined . Adjust any edges or corners that are not aligned properly to create a symmetrical sailboat.

Take a moment to examine your origami sailboat and make any necessary adjustments to ensure it stands upright and is balanced.

If you want to personalize your sailboat, decorate it with markers, stickers, or other embellishments. Be mindful not to add too much weight to the paper.

Once you are satisfied with the overall appearance and stability of your origami sailboat , your finishing touches and adjustments are complete.

The art of origami originated in Japan and has been practiced for centuries. Buddhist monks from China introduced it in the sixth century. Origami evolved from a religious and ceremonial practice into a popular form of entertainment. Different techniques and designs, including the origami sailboat , were developed over time. Today, people of all ages enjoy origami as a creative and meditative art form. The origami sailboat , with its simple yet elegant design, remains a favorite choice for beginners and experienced origami enthusiasts.

The best part about this DIY project is that you only need a few simple craft supplies to put it together. In fact, you probably have everything you need at home right now! What better way to keep your kids entertained when you’re tired of hearing them say I’m bored?

Paper Plate Boat Craft

construction paper sailboat craft

You’re going to love the short list of supplies needed to put this easy art project together! And since it’s so easy to make, this beach craft is also easy to customize. Keep scrolling to the bottom of the post to get more ideas for making this project with your kids.

  • Paper plates . We used small 6-inch plates because that’s what we had on hand, but full-sized plates would also work to make your own rocking sailboats!
  • Paint . Have fun picking the colors for your boats! I suggest using acrylic craft paint to paint the paper plates because it has the best color and coverage.
  • Popsicle sticks . You can use plain wooden sticks or colored sticks to create the sails for your boats.
  • Cardstock or construction paper . To make the sails for your rocking boats, you can use any type of paper you want. I used polka dot scrapbook paper to add a fun pattern to our sales. But plain construction paper would also work.

How to Make a Paper Plate Boat

Now that you have all your supplies gathered up, it’s time to get crafty! Have some fun with your kids making your own sailboat craft at home this summer.

construction paper sailboat craft

Before you can start putting your paper plate boats together, your kids will need to have some fun painting their paper plates. Make sure to cover your work area well, then let your kids paint their plates whatever color they want their boats to be. You may need to add a second coat to fully cover the plate with paint.

Once the paint on the plates is fully dry, fold each paper plate in half.

construction paper sailboat craft

After giving the paint on your paper plate plenty of time to dry, set them aside for a minute while you make the sails. First, cut one triangle out of your cardstock or construction paper for each boat you plan to make.

construction paper sailboat craft

Then, glue the triangle sail to one one end of a popsicle stick. Make sure to leave plenty of room at the bottom of the stick to attach it to your boat!

construction paper sailboat craft

After that, flip the sale over and glue it to the paper plate. Make sure the round part of the plate is on the bottom of your boat so your sailboats will rock properly.

Once the glue is dry, stand the sailboats up on the round part of the plate and lightly tap one side. The boat will start rocking like it’s floating on the water!

Paper Plate Boat Craft Ideas

See how simple it is to make your own sailboats out of a paper plate? And while these boats might not float in the water, they are pretty fun to play with!

construction paper sailboat craft

But my favorite part about making this cute summer art project is giving your kids a chance to customize their craft! Try these ideas as your kids are putting their own boats together to create some adorable art projects while they’re on summer break.

Decorate the boat . While you can make this a super simple craft by letting your kids paint the paper plates one solid color, there’s no reason they can’t get creative! Let them have some fun adding their own decorations by painting designs in the boat, or adding creative elements after the paint is dry. Try decorating your boats with:

  • Markers or crayons

Add decorations to the sails . Another fun way to customize your boats is by adding decorations to your sails. Let your kids draw their own designs or add different craft decorations to the paper to make it their own.

Turn a plain paper plate into a cute rocking sailboat with this fun preschool-friendly craft idea.

11 Ship Craft For Kids

construction paper sailboat craft

My kids love boats, and we’ve made a lot of them together. There are no shortage of ideas for making DIY boats with kids, but here are eleven we think will make the best ships.

Paper Plate Pirate Ship Craft for Kis

This one is a bit more involved, but it’s worth it.

  • One paper plate. You can use an empty cereal box if you want to use the box for something else or just don’t have any plates around. The good news with cereal boxes is that they come with pictures on them, which means you have fewer things to draw yourself!
  • Some glue and scissors (or a craft knife). This will help you cut out your pirate ship shape and make sure all of your edges are nice and straight.
  • A small piece of cardboard or paper that will be used as a mast on your pirate ship (you could also use another paper plate!)

Pirate Ship in a Bottle Craft for Kids

The craft for today is a pirate ship in a bottle. The nice thing about this craft is that you can use a flexible sailboat, which means it will be easier to get in and out of the bottle.

What you need:

  • An empty plastic water or soda bottle (we used an empty liter of water)
  • A flexible sailboat (or any other small toy boat, but we found the sailboats worked best)
  • Some blue paint that matches the color of your bottle; yellow and red work too!
  • An eye dropper or some other way to add glue onto your boat

Construction Paper Pirate Ship Craft for Kids

Create a pirate ship from construction paper. Make a pirate ship from construction paper by following these instructions:

  • Print out the template for your pirate ship and cut it out. You’ll need it to make the basic shape of your boat in the next step.
  • Fold along all of the lines on the template, being sure not to miss any folds. When you’re done folding, open up your paper and lay it flat again so that each fold is visible; this will help you place all of your decorative pieces onto your ship correctly later on!

Pirate Boat from Recycled Materials for Kids

  • How to Make a Pirate Ship from Recycled Materials for Kids

If you’re looking for a fun craft project that will keep your kids busy, this one is for you. All you need is some recycled materials like paper and cardboard, along with some scissors and glue. Here’s how to make a pirate ship from recycled materials:

  • Cut the side of an empty cereal box down so it can be folded into shape (it should look like an envelope). The front flap of the envelope will be used as your ship’s front sail, while the back flap will be used as its back sail.
  • Use foam sheets or poster board to create your boat’s hull by cutting out two long rectangular shapes and gluing them together at right angles (you’ll have something resembling an upside-down V). If you want extra detail on your boat, cut out small triangles at each end of the hull shape—you can use these triangles as decoration or even add rope lines across them by drawing lines with pencil lead first before coloring over them in marker ink!

Paper Plate Sailboat Craft for Kids

  • Paper plates
  • Marker or pen
  • Masking tape

Step 1: Take your paper plate and draw the sail outline on it. You can do this freehand, or print out our template below to use as a guide. Cut out the sail shape with scissors. Step 2: Tape the two sides of your ship together with masking tape so that they form a boat-like shape (see photo). Step 3: Use markers or paint to decorate your boat!

Cereal Box Pirate Ship Toy

Once you have a cereal box, you can make this pirate ship toy with your kids. This is an easy craft to put together and will be a great project for the whole family to enjoy!

What You Need:

  • Cereal box or any other cardboard shape (about 24″ x 12″)
  • Tissue paper (1 sheet per side)
  • Glue gun or glue stick

Toddler Boat Craft – play big with this cardboard box boat! This is one of the best kids crafts!

This cardboard box boat is a great fun craft for kids. It’s easy to make, and it will be loved by all little sea captains!

  • Cardboard box
  • Glue stick or white glue (optional)

DIY Cardboard Two-Handed Pinch Boat STEM Challenge – Toys, crafts and games can be quick and easy, homemade and still fun! This is great to do with toddlers.

To make a cardboard pinch boat, you’ll need:

  • A cardboard box
  • A sharp knife (a box cutter is best)
  • Cut out the shape of your boat using the ruler and a sharp knife. Use the ruler to draw straight lines, then use your knife to cut them out. For example, if you want to make an oval-shaped boat, use your ruler to draw an oval on one side of the box and cut along those lines with your knife (you can also trace around bowls or cups for an easy way to get started). Be sure not to waste any cardboard! You don’t have to use perfect circles or ovals—it’s all about experimentation here! Most importantly: Have fun! Let kids do as much cutting as possible so they can feel like real sailors when they play with their new toy later on.

DIY Wooden Sailboat With A Peg Person—My kids LOVE playing with boats. These wooden sailboats are so cute, they’re fun to make too! So pretty! Would also be fun as a classroom craft. They can go into a sensory bin and float around on the water!

This is a great craft to make with your kids! It’s also really easy and they can even do it themselves. Use wood or cardboard, paint or paper, glue or tape, whatever you have on hand. You can even use scraps from other projects to make this fun little boat! My kids LOVE playing with boats. These wooden sailboats are so cute, they’re fun to make too! So pretty! Would also be fun as a classroom craft. They can go into a sensory bin and float around on the water!

This would also be great for sensory bins or as party favors if you plan on having your own birthday party (or maybe not). The peg person could also be used for crafts such as painting his clothes or putting her in different positions like jumping into the water after falling off her boat while sailing across an ocean filled with sharks chasing them down because they want revenge after being attacked by pirates earlier that day…yeah…it’s pretty much just me rambling here but hopefully it helps inspire some ideas of how this craft could be used 🙂 Thank You!!

How to Make a Flexible Wooden Sailboat From 3/4 Inch Dowel—Flexible sailboat made from dowels. Dont break on impact and will not harm your child if it hits them. We used a flame to burn the ends of the dowels to give them the cut ends. We used black thread for the mast instead of adding glue which would dry out with time. The wood is solid balsam fir, very hard wood that seals itself naturally so no need to add any sealer to protect from water damage.
