Mercedes-benz x-class yachting edition by carlex is a head-turning pick-up.
Carlex has always had a thing for the Mercedes-Benz pick-up truck. And they remake model after model even long after the premium car maker stopped production. This is how the X-Class Yachting Edition showed up.
The Mercedes-Benz X-Class was, at its time, the only German premium pick-up. It raised some eyebrows. But today, after Mercedes stopped building it, Carlex Design keeps giving it chances to shine. The Polish tuning house has just built the Yachting Edition.
The X-Class failed to achieve the recognition Mercedes was dreaming of. But the tuning experts obviously saw something in it. Therefore once again, Carlex works its magic on the model and grants it with the “Yachting” designation. That is because everything about it seems inspired from luxury yachts .
What do you get in the price of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class Yachting Edition by Carlex?
The price for the tweaked variant of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class by Carlex starts at €112,000 (approximately $135,000). Could there be any other pick-up truck that is more expensive?
Carlex equipped the model with a widebody kit. The package includes fend flares and new bumpers with carbon fiber inserts. The wheels draw the attention as they seem identical to those that we get to see on the Maybach variants. The “Yachting” naming shows up on the front doors, on a black band background.
The tuning house fitted further yachting details onboard. There is a floor imitating wood and a black-and-white leather combo covers the seats and the dashboard. The floor resembles the wood used for the deck of yachts. The same pattern appears in the load bed of the X-Class.
There isn’t, of course, the slightest chance the owner of such a luxury pick-up truck would ever take it for a ride along muddy trails for a bit of offroading. Heavy loading also seems out of the question. Driving in style though should be considered.

Mercedes-Benz X-Class Yachting by Carlex Design
From commercial vehicle to a luxurious car with maybach parts: the mercedes x-class yachting, styled by carlex design..
Influences from yachting to cars and influences from cars to yachting – both industries are working on several levels together . Although the X-Class is a Mercedes, it is just commercial car based on the Nissan Navara. The Polish company Carlex Design that creates custom interiors and exterior parts for luxury cars presents the X-Class in a yachting edition.
The car features original wheels from the Maybach S650 Coupé, teak wood and a body kit with a lot of carbon fiber parts. The bicolored body reminds me of a typical yacht color scheme. Although the below part of the car is painted in porcelain, the brown is like a teak deck.
The exterior color scheme is also in the interior. Original Maybach Nappa leather in creme and brown with Zebrano wood part parts. Moreover, Recaro Sportster CS seats and a sports steering wheel. Personally, a new gearbox and a bigger screen would be the icing on the cake. Also, a fifth-wheeler version with a boat trailer could be interesting. The price of the car is about 105.000 EUR depending on the chosen base.

2018 Mercedes X-Class By Carlex Design
3 Ways Carlex Design Transformed The X-Class Into a Truck Worthy of The Maybach Name
Just when you think that Chevy, GMC, Ford, and RAM cracked the luxury nut within the massive pickup trucks universe, Mercedes-Benz comes with its Navara- based X-Class to show us all how things are supposed to be done. For some, however, a luxury pickup truck simply isn’t good enough. Aftermarket tuners such as Carlex Design from Poland, who reinvented the luxury in the X-Class, comes to the rescue. Yup, if you are into Mercedes-Maybach cars, you may have already noticed some similarities between this truck and the most expensive and luxurious Mercedes-Maybach vehicles. A design like this isn’t pursued only by chance - Carlex Design wanted to transform the X-Class into a Maybach. This is usually achieved only in Photoshop but Carlex Design has stepped up and delivered in the real world.

Maybach Exterior Pieces
Called the X-Class Exy Yachting Edition, this Carlex Design creation goes out of its way to prove that exceptional luxury exists. The maritime-inspired exterior stands out thanks to the Porcelain White paint with Chocolate Brown details. Photographs probably do not do it justice, but we can see many additional pieces which differentiate the Carlex Design X-Class from the one produced by Mercedes-Benz. This opulent hue is only one piece of the puzzle.
First of all, Carlex Design somehow landed a number of genuine Maybach pieces. The front end features the same grille as the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet. The wheels are taken from the lavish convertible as well. Complete with a paint change, these additions only transform the X-Class into something only a selected few would dare to imagine, let alone, create.
Looking jugged, but luxurious
With an escapade to the luxury pickup truck segment, Carlex Design dared to form a full exterior body-kit. While one may imagine the X-Class getting even more luxury pieces in line with Maybach sourced parts, Carlex Design decided to go full on with carbon fiber pieces. The exterior gained up to 15 new separate pieces which accentuate the off-road credentials of the Mercedes X-Class. These include all-new front and rear bumpers, massive wheel arches, covers for mirrors, a sports bar at the back, and some other touches. These features genuinely transformed the pickup from a rather soft and plush looking thing into something jugged, but ultimately, distinctive and luxurious.
An Interior Worthy of Kings
In case you didn't know, Carlex Design is best known for their interior work. They are a sort of a specialist for leather and everything inside, really. Although Carlex Design focuses mostly on new cars, the company has been known to make a couple of tweaks on some older machines as well, going all the way back to the original Mustang. In this case, however, they found inspiration in Maybach cars. With a twist, though. This X-Class is as luxurious as no other and it’s also off-road apt, but its interior, with several sporty touches added, takes the cake here.
You might be tempted to think that Carlex was all over the place, but the Recaro bucket seats inside did receive a massive overhauling. Now perfectly upholstered with fine, neatly stitched and decorated white leather, the Recaro seats do give out a luxurious vibe without a doubt. Complementing the cabin is a massive grain wood inlay on the dash and the reshaped steering wheel. Carlex chose a two-tone ambiance for the inside to echo the changes on the outside. Every single surface on the inside has been frantically upholstered with leather. If I didn't know better, I’d be convinced that Maybach actually did this, probably because Carlex used the same Nappa Porzellan leather Maybach actually uses in its cars.
It's As Expensive as the Chevy Corvette ZR1
Yup, this thing costs more than $122,000. And, that is just the start it seems. Carlex Design apparently offers a comprehensive personalization program for the X-Class. The Exy Yachting Edition is a highly limited commodity, however. Carlex did not disclose how many units will be produced, but I would not be surprised if the company decides to cap production at 5-10 units. This is only a guess, but getting those Maybach parts may be tricky.
Finally, a V-8 for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class
Not this one though. Mercedes-Benz Board of Directors apparently discussed the possibilities for the integration of a V-8 engine in the X-Class. Taking into account the sheer luxury ambiance of the car, having a V-8 inside would be only logical. However, this falls down to customers and their wishes. If Mercedes-Benz senses there is enough demand for such a move, the sky's the limit.
Frank Schumacher, X-Class Development Boss said that “if there will be wishes after the launch of the vehicle that says we need to have V-8 then probably we will put in a V-8, but that’s always a response to customer request.”
If it comes to that, the X-Class could gain a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged, V-8 we’ve already seen on some AMG cars. I am fairly certain that Mercedes would have to detune it a bit if they plan on using the same engine in the X-Class. Nevertheless, if they ever produce it, I hope Carlex will get one to work on too.

2018 Mercedes-Benz X-class Pickup
Mercedes—whose corporate parent Daimler has a rich history as a maker of commercial trucks—didn’t try to reinvent the wheel in creating its first ever pickup, nor did its engineers take a GLE-class SUV and add a pickup bed. Instead, they drew from business partner Nissan and its Europe-built Navara —the successor to the Frontier that Nissan still sells in the United States. The Nissan pickup has a reputation for toughness and reliability, and the latest Navara replaced the traditional leaf springs for the rear axle with coil springs. That was key to enabling the kind of handling and ride comfort that Daimler had in mind. The mid-size X-class needs to be a tough workhorse just as much as a comfortable long-distance cruiser.
The finished X-class shares its ladder frame and a number of nonvisible parts with the Nissan, but hunting for obvious similarities turned out to be frustrating (or encouraging, depending on how you look at it). The X-class is a very different vehicle from the Navara, but it won’t be offered in the U.S., the world’s most competitive pickup-truck market.
Wider and Higher
If it looks more substantial than the Nissan, that’s because Daimler has widened the track—and the bodywork—by a full 2.8 inches. The two trucks will be built on the same assembly lines, but no exterior sheetmetal or glass is interchangeable. The door geometry—the hinges, latches, and their locations—is the same, but the panels are all brand specific.
The X-class looks good, with a front end dominated by the large three-pointed star and an overall design similar to Benz’s SUV models. The rear end with its slim vertical taillights reminds us of a concept car, especially when fitted with the LED front and rear lighting that comes with upper trim levels.
The widened body allows more generous interior space than the Navara offers. Mercedes has raised the rear-seat bottom to deliver more comfort—in the back seat of the crew-cab Nissan, the only cab style available in the X-class, you can feel like a half-folded pocketknife—although tall adults will lack for headroom. There is a lot more sound insulation than in the Nissan, and the Germans have added structural elements to the frame in order to reduce noise, vibrations, and harshness.
The interior is dominated by a concave dashboard; the instruments, central screen, HVAC controls, and the optional, touch-sensitive COMAND infotainment system come straight from the Mercedes-Benz passenger-car parts bin. In the standard trim, called Pure, the look is somewhat frugal with a lot of hard plastic, but most of the electronic goodies are aboard, including the latest driver-assistance safety systems. The mid-level Progressive trim brings a bit more fabric to the cabin and also exterior niceties such as body-color bumpers. But it takes the top-of-the-line Power trim to give the X-class the appearance of an upmarket vehicle, with stitched faux leather applied to the dashboard and the inner door panels. Aluminum and wood trim are options.
The X-class falls short of its premium aspirations when carryover parts from Nissan are used. These include the dome light, the switches for the seat heaters, and, we suspect, the automatic gear selector that sprouts from the console. The X-class also needs far more stowage space in the cabin, where only the door pockets are sufficiently large—the center-console bin, the cupholders, and the glovebox are all tiny.
All Turbo-Diesel, All the Time
We drove the X250d 4Matic, which is rated at 187 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque from its Nissan-built sequentially turbocharged 2.3-liter diesel inline-four. The entry-level X220d, which was not made available to drive, has a similar four-cylinder but with only one turbocharger and is rated at 161 horsepower and 297 lb-ft. Both engines come with a six-speed manual as standard, but a Nissan-built seven-speed automatic is available on the X250d. With the automatic transmission and optional all-wheel-drive system, the X250d will reach 62 mph in a somewhat leisurely 11.8 seconds and top out at 109 mph, by Daimler’s reckoning.
The dual turbo usually needs a moment to react to driver input, and it sounds a bit strained under full throttle. The power-sapping automatic is not particularly quick to respond, either, so it is best to restrain your aspirations and just go with the flow of traffic. Then you can enjoy the comfy ride and the remarkably well-isolated cabin.
There was a stick-shift X250d on hand, and while that six-speed gearbox is based on a Nissan design, Daimler developed a cable-linkage system exclusively for the X-class. The effect is clearly noticeable: There is absolutely no vibration in the shifter, and except for its long throws, the gearbox could pass for a passenger car’s. The manual beats the automatic, hands down. (A few select markets, by the way, will see an entry-level X-class with a manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine.)
The chassis is capable of dealing with the worst off-road conditions, but it is also comfortable and surprisingly capable of spirited on-road driving. The limits of adhesion are higher than the competition’s, and it’s possible to move the tail around a bit if you feel so compelled, although the X-class’s stability control will frown upon the exercise and intervene promptly. The steering is good for a pickup, not as overboosted as on most other trucks, but don’t expect the X-class to reach even SUV standards for handling prowess. There is considerable body roll, too.
Need More Grunt? Wait for It
More power will be available via the X350d 4Matic slated for a 2018 calendar year launch and fitted with Benz’s own, smooth turbo-diesel 3.0-liter V-6 and seven-speed automatic with shift paddles. It also will offer several driving modes and permanent all-wheel drive. Rated at 254 horsepower and 406 lb-ft, the V-6 should easily allow for zero-to-60-mph times below nine seconds and a terminal velocity beyond 125 mph. We weren’t allowed to drive this model, but we did catch a ride in one on closed roads at a surreal pace; the X350d stands poised to offer the most fun you can have in a pickup of this size—if you live in Europe.
At more than €37,000 in its German home market (a figure that includes a 19 percent sales tax, so call it $37,000 or so pre-tax), the Mercedes-Benz X-class isn’t cheap. Adding the twin-turbo engine, automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive puts an extra €4500 on the tab, and that’s for the base Pure model. It’s a big chunk of change above every other pickup in its class, and it even eclipses the Volkswagen Amarok with its standard V-6 TDI engine. But the price looks more reasonable when you factor in the assistance and telematics systems, which no other European pickup offers. A U.S.-market launch is off the table for now; depending on sales volumes in the burgeoning mid-size-pickup segment, the company might reconsider. If the X-class does make it here, it won’t be cheap, but it will be the Mercedes-Benz of pickup trucks.

Pickup Design’s Mercedes-Benz X-Class Is As Sumptuous As It Gets
The tuner has fittingly dubbed this Mercedes-Benz X-Class the Yachting Edition
by Brad Anderson
The Mercedes-Benz X-Class you see might just be the most intriguing looking example we’ve ever seen. It comes from Pickup Design, the truck-focused division of Carlex Design, and has received a multitude of exterior and interior modifications.
The first thing you notice is the two-tone paint scheme. The X-Class’s body has been painted in gloss white, apart from the upper portion of the body which sports a shade of brown. A host of other brown accents are visible across the exterior, including a strip along the doors that denotes the vehicle as the ‘Yachting Edition.’
At the rear, Pickup Design has clad the bed in high-end wood. While the wood would be more prone to damage than the truck’s regular bed liner, we doubt the car’s owner will ever actually load something into the back.

Inside, this X-Class looks unlike any other. For starters, the tuner has applied wooden accents on the dashboard and steering wheel. Next, elements such as the seat bolsters, shift knob, handbrake, center console, and parts of the door panels have been clad in brown leather. Other surfaces, like the upper door trims, upper dashboard, and the steering wheel grips are clad in brown Alcantara.
Rounding out the interior changes are custom seats with black Alcantara center sections and wooden floor mats both up front and in the second row.
These modifications might not be the most practical for a tradesman that could use the X-Class for work, but it is definitely one way to attract attention at the worksite.
Carlex Design Mercedes-Benz X-Class Yachting Edition Looks Fit For Maybach Customers
Pickup trucks (bakkies) are not exactly the most luxurious vehicles on the market but the Mercedes-Benz X-Class is probably leading the way in this department for now.
The team over at Carlex Design decided to take things a step further (as they usually do) to give this workhorse the ‘Maybach’ treatment.
They have called it the Yachting Edition and as you can see in these renderings, it is substantially different to the regular offerings from Mercedes.
The front grille and wheels were taken straight from the limited-edition S650 Cabriolet , while on the inside there’s the same Nappa Porzellan leather upholstery found in the most recent Maybach-branded models.
On the outside there is a new carbon fibre body kit to give the pickup a much beefier presence made up of new front and rear bumpers, chunky wheel arches, side mirror caps, and a sports bar at the back where the bed has been covered in lovely teak.
As expected from Carlex Design the interior is as lavish as you can expect with the standard seats being replaced for Recaro Sportster seats and covered in leather. Take one look at the interior pictures and you will see there is leather almost everywhere in the same two-tone as the exterior.
Of course these changes come at quite the cost so if you are thinking about calling on Carlex Design to transform your pickup into a posh workhorse, then you will need to part with $122,330. This price includes the vehicle but price varies greatly with personal spec as well as X-Class version selected.

Mercedes X-Class By Carlex Design Is The Maybach Of Pickup Trucks
This is what happens when a navara-based pickup truck borrows features from a maybach cabrio..
The Mercedes X-Class is arguably the most luxurious pickup truck to date, but the folks over at Carlex Design decided to kick things up a notch by giving the posh workhorse the Maybach treatment. The front grille and wheels were taken straight from the limited-edition S650 Cabriolet, while on the inside there’s the same Nappa Porzellan leather upholstery found in the most recent Maybach-branded models.
To further set it apart from the regular X-Class, the Polish specialists decided to slap on an aftermarket body kit made out of carbon fiber. It makes the pickup truck look beefier thanks to new front and rear bumpers, chunky wheel arches, side mirror caps, and a sports bar at the back where the bed has been covered in lovely teak.
In total, there 15 new components on the outside and these truly do make the X-Class stand out – also helped by the Porcelain White paint with Chocolate Brown accents. You’ll also notice several special badges and the “Yachting Edition” lettering on the sides as well as on the reworked front bumper.
Customize your X-Class:
It’s a similar story on the inside where Carlex Design went to town as far as customizing the already lavish cabin of Mercedes’ pickup truck. Gone are the standard front seats as these had to make way for a pair or Recaro Sportster seats wrapped in leather. Speaking of which, there’s leather just about everywhere you look, and it comes in the same two-tone look to complement the exterior.
To accentuate the connection with the body, there’s wood on the dashboard and even on the reshaped steering wheel partially clad in white leather. The headliner has been covered in Alcantara with an embroidered motif and even the back of the center console makes generous use of leather. As a matter of fact, it’s quite difficult to find an area inside the cabin that has been left untouched by Carlex Design.
As you’d come to expect, all these changes come at a cost. A complete makeover costs a steep €105,000 (including the vehicle), which works out to $122,330. However, the final price tag greatly depends on the sort of upgrades you want and obviously on the X-Class version. No production numbers have been specified, by conversions will be “limited,” so better act fast.

We have found the Mercedes-Benz X-Class amazing for a number reasons. First, driving it is an experience comparable to that of an SUV, which is new quality in the world of tough pickups, and one of the latest trends: pickups manufacturers try to “smoothen” their cars, so that they are commercial vehicles ensuring a comfortable ride. Next, the standard interior of the Mercedes-Benz X-Class is quite cosy, comfortable, and equipped with a few gadgets to be found in premium cars, like USB docks, Bluetooth, or a touch GPS. The style is that of top Mercedes-Benz models, which has been a perfect starting point for conversions that meet the requirements of premium customers.
It is the interior of the car that should be luxury. Carlex Design implemented a number of solutions employed by Mercedes-Benz and Maybach, like original Nappa Porzellan leather (to be found in the latest models of Maybach), characterised by a very soft touch and natural structure.
Full grain leather in the automotive industry is the most exclusive and desirable product. Working with such material is a pure pleasure and the results are always great.
Besides the leather inside the X-Class Yachting Edition, a large amount of Alcantara and exotic wood was used. As a result, we have received the interior of the pickup, which with the precision of workmanship, the range of modifications and quality of materials used will satisfy the needs of the most demanding users. On the exterior you will find some interesting changes as well. In the foreground, we have a new body kit, which consists of 15 elements.
The body kit was recently presented on the Mercedes X-Class Urban by Pickup Design but for this project a carbon body kit was made using new moulds.
The car also features teak, original Maybach S650 Coupe wheels and grille. The body was painted porcelain white and chocolate brown and a marked with limited edition symbol. The cars will be built exclusively at Carlex Design branches and their quantities will be limited. The approximate price of a car, depending on the base version, is approx. 105.000 Euro.
Below we present the specification of the modification.
- a carbon body kit, comprising a front bumper, a bonnet cover, a rear bumper, a roof spoiler, wheel arches, and rear light frames;
- carbon mirror covers;
- a Maybach S650 Cabrio grille;
- Maybach S650 Cabrio rims;
- A carbon Style Bar by Pickup Design
- a tonneau padded with teak;
- styling stickers and Limited Edition emblems.
- leather Recaro Sportster seats, benches and door panels
- wooden seat back;
- dashboard: leather and wood;
- reshaped steering wheel, wooden inserts, laser-engraved motifs, leather trim;
- headliner made of Alcantara with an embroidered motif of the flower of the winds;
- additional emblems and laser-engraved motifs.
