About Trawler Yachts

Trawlers Characteristics: Trawlers are generally defined as motor yachts that boast fuel efficiency, rugged lines, sea worthy hull designs for long-distance cruising, and interior layouts that are beneficial for liveaboard yacht owners.

Trawler Construction & Hull Design: Beginning in the 1970's, most trawlers are fiberglass-construction. However, many large trawlers, and expedition yachts over 75', are built with steel and aluminum hulls and superstructures. Classic trawlers and motor yachts were typically built out of wood. With a caring owner, many of these trawlers are still in use today.

Trawlers with full-displacement hulls are for yachtsmen that place a high value on distance, comfort, and safety over speed. Trawlers typically have deeper drafts (with a skeg or keel deeper than the propellers so that the running gear and propellers aren't damaged if the hull touches the bottom).

Trawlers are usually designed with a round chine, or hull configuration with a curve near the waterline instead of a hard chine typically found on semi-displacement motor yachts. This hull design has been proven over many centuries to be the most efficient at lower speeds. Of course, this hull design also allows a higher volume of interior space, which benefits long-range cruising as well. Many trawlers and expedition yachts utilize stabilizers to minimize rolling at sea.

Bulbous bows can also be found on larger displacement trawlers. Large commercial vessels use this protruding underwater stem to break the water in front of the vessel and thus reduce the friction of movement, which results in a more efficient hull design. Yachts may use them for the same effect as well as for possible attributes in reducing pitch, or fore and aft motion. The most popular Trawlers built with bulbous bow options are Selene Trawlers , and Nordhavn Yachts (both full-displacement trawler builders as well).

Trawler Power Options: Trawlers are usually powered with single engines to achieve better efficiency for longer-distance cruising. However, many trawlers are fitted with a second engine, or a get-home generator that will assist owners if the single engine were to fail.

Ocean-Cruising on a Trawler: Many trawler owners are enticed to the idea of owning a large trawler or expedition yacht so they have the ability to cross oceans and explore the far reaches of the globe. Trawler owners that desire to explore extreme parts of the world, like Antartcia, and the North Atlantic, will want a long-range yacht with special reinforcements, especially around the bow waterline area. Ice breaking hulls will offer another layer of protection for boats traveling in oceans with icebergs, and other frozen debris which of course can be harmful to even the world's largest megayachts and cruise ships.

Sweeping, sculpted curves give Lady Lara a feminine elegance and the interior reportedly flows just as sinuously. Lady Lara is a private yacht and following her maiden voyage to Norway, she headed to Florida, the Bahamas and the Eastern Caribbean islands for the winter season.

Lady Lara features a displacement steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules.

Who is alexander mashkevitch.

Mashkevich was born in Frunze, Kyrgyz SSR, Soviet Union, in 1954. His father Anton, a doctor born in Lithuania, and his mother, Rakhel Yoffe, a lawyer born in Vitebsk, were evacuated to Kyrgyzstan in 1941. His family background is Lithuanian Jewish.

He is a graduate of Kyrgyz State University where he studied philology. Mashkevich started out an academic career but became a businessman during perestroika. Mashkevich, Patokh Chodiev, and Alijan Ibragimov form “the Trio,” a group of Kazakh businessmen who became billionaires. The Trio gained control of the recently privatized chromium, alumina, and gas operations in Kazakhstan (some of the largest ones in the world).

Mashkevich is one of the owners of Alferon Management. Based in London, Alferon Management has acquired mining operations in different places: Zambia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Kosovo, Russia, and other countries.

In 2010 he was on the Forbes list of billionaires at #287. In 2017, he was on the list at #1098, with a worth of $1.9 billions. Now his worth is 3 billion dollars.

Built in 2015, Lady Lara is designed for exquisite indoor/outdoor living and boasts voluminous interior and exterior spaces across several decks: ideal for bronzing, lounging or entertaining. Guest Accommodation

Lady Lara offers guest accommodation for up to 12 guests in 8 suites. The master suite incorporates its own study and dressing room as well as a his and her bathroom. There are up to twenty-seven crew members on board to provide outstanding service on your charter.

Built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, she offers greater on-board space and is more stable when at anchor thanks to her full-displacement hull. Powered by twin MTU engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 17 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 220,000 litre fuel tanks at cruising speed. The incredibly designed LADY LARA yacht features an interior style from Reymond Langton Design .

She has accommodations for 18 guests and 19 crew members on board. The VIP suites have fold-down balconies that add to the grandeur.

The onboard atmosphere is bright and inviting with subtle finishes. The entertainment areas are open to provide more sheltered and intimate formal spaces.

The yacht has an extensive health and beauty center with a spa and an expansive beach club.

The beach club creates the perfect area for guests to enjoy indoor/outdoor living. There is also a swimming platform where guests can leap into the water below.

She has an on-deck jacuzzi to soak up the bubbles and the views. The yacht also has an elevator for convenient access to her different decks and a comprehensive gym onboard. The tender garage is brimming with towable toys and tenders.

Reymond Langton Design also contributed to the exterior design of the LADY LARA yacht. She was built by Lürssen and delivered from their Rendsburg shipyard in 2015. The exterior has sweeping curves and elegant but masculine features.

LADY LARA was code-named project Orchid when she was launched from the Lürssen Shipyard in 2015 and later renamed. She has a full displacement hull which gives her exceptional speeds in the water.

She has a white aluminum superstructure and teak decks throughout. The exterior is accented by underwater lights, which illuminate her at the night.

The LADY LARA yacht is a 91m superyacht with a beam of 14.82m and a draft of 4m. The vessel reaches a maximum speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots.

She is powered by 2 MTU engines and has a displacement of 2,945 gross tons.

She features an advanced stabilization system that provides guests with the best comfort levels on board by minimizing the rolling motion of the vessel. The $180 million yacht has a $14 – $15 million annual running cost.

She is an award-winning yacht that holds an award from the Asia Boating competition in 2016. LADY LARA has a Lloyd’s Register classification.

A $1.4 Million-Per-Week Yacht Charter Experience

Y.CO has just welcomed the 298-foot Lürssen Lady Lara to the charter fleet. The lowest weekly base rate is $1.4 million for bookings this winter in the Caribbean and Bahamas.

The yacht is also listed for sale—at more than $254 million—for the first time since the German shipyard delivered it in 2015. Y.CO’s Max Bulley and Gary Wright, along with Merle Wood of Merle Wood & Associates, represented the yacht at the recent Monaco Yacht Show.

“With Lürssen quality and stunning Reymond Langton design, Lady Lara is an exceptional yacht that was conceived with family living in mind,” Wright stated in a press release. “Her adaptable spaces, variety and flexibility, in addition to all the amazing features like the breathtaking spa area, the beach club and two pools, are ideal for multigenerational groups and put Lady Lara into a league of her own.”

Accommodations are for 12 guests in their choice of eight staterooms (for private use, the yacht is built to accommodate 16 guests). Six of the guest staterooms are on the main deck, with one on the lower deck. The master suite has its own private deck with an exterior terrace, outdoor hot tub, and indoor library. The aft-deck space in the owner’s area is called a “winter garden,” with sliding glass panels that can be closed to shelter diners from the elements.

There also are two cabins for owner’s staff or supernumeraries, in addition to the yacht’s quarters for 27 crew.

Onboard amenities include an aft-deck pool whose floor can be raised to create a dance floor. A sound system on this deck helps to create a discotheque-style environment for parties. There’s another pool up on the sundeck, this one with a swim-up bar.

On the bridge deck, guests have access to the spa, which includes a hammam, massage room, treatment room, beauty salon and gymnasium. Guests who prefer to get their exercise outdoors can do so from the beach club at water level, which has a steam room and a sauna along with a sunbathing area.

For rainy days and relaxing nights, the lower deck aboard Lady Lara includes a cinema. There’s also a touch-and-go helipad on board, if guests want to escape to a different spot up the coast.

How fast can Lady Lara cruise? According to Y.CO, the yacht has a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 14 knots, which is plenty fast for exploring the islands.

The external profile of this vessel has been designed by Omega Architects, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department which developed the naval project, while their interiors have been created by Droulers Architecture, which has worked in close collaboration with the shipyard’s Interiors and Design Office.

The new megayacht, the first to be built by CRN on the new naval platform of 12.50 metres in width, is characterized by sleek, slender and sporty lines, which make the profile particularly streamlined. With 5 decks, M/Y CRN 132 73 m can host up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including the Owner Suite and Vip cabins, together with a crew of 22 members.

The construction of this new jewel of the sea, which includes the best design solutions realized by CRN, has required around 430,000 hours of work from the shipyard workers and subcontractors and the daily contribution of over 150 direct and indirect workers.

Off the Hook Yachts Acquires 300-Slip Marina in Georgetown Maryland  

The Acquisition 

Off the Hook Yachts is proud to announce the acquisition of Georgetown Yacht Basin (GYB) now rebranding under Georgetown Yacht Haven – a 300-boat slip full-service marina located on the Sassafras River in Georgetown, MD.  Off the Hook plans to restore the yacht basin to its former glory and reconnect with the local community in order to establish it as a household name in the area. 

As our founder is originally from Maryland, this will complement our current presence in the area, along with our MD sales team, which currently operates out of Bay Bridge Marina. The acquisition of the marina will allow us to expand on sales, service, and custom-built Nor-Tech Performance Boat sales in the region. Georgetown Yacht Haven has 300 slips, two paint sheds that can hold up to a 110-foot yacht, a 110-ton travel lift, a fuel dock, a swimming pool, bathhouses, and a complete ship store, along with many other amenities. GYH controls the largest travel lift in Northern Chesapeake Bay.

Performance & Range

Cocoa Bean is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure. Powered by twin Caterpillar engines, she comfortably cruises at 14 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 6,000 nautical miles from her 242,266 litre fuel tanks at 13 knots. An advanced stabilisation system on board reduces the side-to-side roll of the yacht and promises guests exceptional comfort levels at anchor or when underway.

Cocoa Bean knows a thing or two about fun on the water, with a selection of water toys and accessories for you and your guests to enjoy whilst on charter. Take to the sea on the Jet Skis offering you power and control on the water. Also there are waterskis that are hugely entertaining whether you are a beginner or a seasoned pro. Additionally, there are two kayaks - a tranquil and relaxing way to pass the time. If that isn't enough Cocoa Bean also features scuba diving equipment, inflatable water toys, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment. 73m superyacht Yalla launched by CRN

Italian yacht builder CRN has launched its 73m superyacht Yalla .

CRN welcomed more than 1,000 guests to the launching ceremony of CRN 132 Yalla , held late this morning at its shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The launch ceremony included speeches from Alberto Galassi, new CEO of the Ferretti Group , Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN, Xinyu Xu, Vice-chairman of Weichai Group, and the Mayor of Ancona Valeria Mancinelli.

Part of the Ferretti Group,  CRN  specialises in custom yachts up to 90 metres in steel and aluminium. Yalla is the first yacht built by CRN on its new 12.5m beam platform. More than 430,000 hours from CRN and its subcontractors were spent on Yalla 's build, with contributions from 150 employees.

Exterior styling comes from Omega Architects in The Netherlands, in close collaboration with the CRN Engineering Department. The five-deck motor yacht features sleek, sporty lines and a streamlined profile. Superyacht Yalla 's interiors are by Droulers Architecture, working with CRN's Interiors and Design Office. She hosts up to 12 guests in its six cabins, including an owner's suite and VIP cabins, along with 22 crew members.

'Following the launch of CRN 133 61m superyacht a few months ago, we are proud to celebrate the launch of the new Yalla of 73m, which represents a challenge and an objective for the whole CRN shipyard,' says Lamberto Tacoli, Chairman and CEO of CRN. ' Yalla will mark another important result for the development of CRN in the world. A sincere thanks for the trust of the owner and for the work of all employees and subcontractors who have worked on the project, to the architects Franck Laupman of Omega Architects and to Droulers Architecture. I also thank our shareholder Weichai Group and the new CEO of the Group Alberto Galassi for their participation in this important event for CRN and for the whole Ferretti Group.'

The Ferretti Group currently has five superyachts underway at the Ancona shipyard, including the 74m CRN 131, 55m CRN 134, a Ferretti Custom Line CL 124, the 61m CRN 133 and the Riva 122 Mythos , which are at the delivery stage.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.

You get to find out about the history of Speight's and get a good look behind the old locations of the brewery. There are also plentiful tastings at the end which are tailored to your own preferences. No open shoes are allowed on the tour so make sure you don't wear your flip-flops/jandals and they also provide lockers for your bags as they're not allowed on the tour either. Highly recommend. Tour does have some interesting historical displays, but you don't get to see any of the magic workings of the brewery and no bottling, as it's only barrels/kegs here and you don't get to see that. From boutique breweries to well-loved distilleries, these are the best places to enjoy quality brews in Ōtepoti / Dunedin. This South Island city is known for its food and drink scene, and it is a must-visit destination for beer lovers. Each of these breweries and distilleries has plenty of personality and individuality. They’re never pretentious and always enticing. These are the spots to enjoy a craft beer, meet with friends and discover something new. Experience the art form that is brewing and distilling in Dunedin.

1. Emerson’s

One of Dunedin’s best watering holes is Emerson’s Brewery . Located in the centre of town, near the Otago Harbour, Emerson’s has become an institution in Dunedin. This story started after Richard Emerson lived in Edinburgh (the Dunedin of the Northern Hemisphere). Inspiration and determination stirred in Richard and in 1992, on Grange Street, Dunedin, Richard brought his newfound skills home and brought his dream to life, opening Emerson’s Brewing. A few years of hard work and dedication later, and this Dunedin-born brewery is now a much-loved gem. The brewery is spacious and inviting, with open ceilings, outdoor tables and the odd nod to Richard Emerson’s love of trains. Bar snacks and share plates make Emerson’s the ultimate place to socialise with good people over great food and beer. Brewery tours are a great way to see the magic, before sitting down to enjoy a tasting paddle of brews. Grab a few riggers, flagons or cans of your favourites to take away from the cellar door before you leave.

2. Noisy Brewing Co

For a smaller boutique brewery, you can’t go past Noisy Brewing Co . Certainly cool and unassuming, this is one of those Dunedin breweries that you don’t want to miss. The beers on tap are forever changing, with new and intriguing flavours coming to the table daily. Try their milk stout with toasty coconut and almond notes, or their latest hazy pale ale to keep the lovers of hops happy. Food is served from their neighbours, Ironic Cafe & Bar, and comes to the brewery in biodegradable takeaway vessels. Cheese rolls and twice-cooked Hunsi Pork are the ideal accompaniment to a cold glass of tap beer. When the sun’s out in Dunedin a visit to Noisy for cold beers and some Korean fried chicken is the perfect idea.

In true boutique brewery nature, Noisy Brewery Co has been known to get its hands on a selection of Cell Division brews from time to time. Cell Division is a small-scale brewery producing farmhouse and sour beers. The scarcity of Cell Division creations adds to the intrigue, and true craft beer lovers will enjoy a taste of these quirky beers.

3. Speight’s

Speight’s is undoubtedly a part of Dunedin’s identity. An icon since 1876, the tri-star brand has instilled its ‘pride of the south’ motto in the roots of this city. Visit this brewery for a tour through the historic site, to fill up or drink from the Speight’s water tap with fresh spring water, or to pick up a few takeaways, fresh from the cellar door taps. The building on Rattray Street draws plenty of attention as it’s home to Dunedin’s Speight’s Ale House . Go from tasting beers at the brewery to dining in the ale house for one ultimate experience. Speight’s Ale House Pubs can be found across the country, with most major cities and towns having their own legendary version.

Of all the Dunedin Breweries, this is one of the best places to enjoy a jug and a slice of Dunedin history.  Taste the beers that have stood the test of time. The flagship gold medal ale still stands strong. Speight’s beer is a reflection of the changes over the ages too, with ‘new’ brews like the Speight’s Summit Ultra and 0% lager Summit Zero to meet demands and give the people what they want.

4. Sandymount Distillery

On the rolling hills of the Otago Peninsula sits Sandymount Distillery , an artisanal distillery crafting premium gins, vodka and liqueurs. These spirits are award-winning, but it’s the sustainable nature in which they’re crafted that makes them so noteworthy. Solar power runs the stills (the apparatus used to distill liquids), making Sandymount Distillery New Zealand’s first carbon-neutral distillery. The surrounding Dunedin environment inspires the distillers, and ingredients like wild botanicals, spring water and natural flora are sourced straight from the Sandymount Estate. Handcrafted spirits like Lovers Leap Dry Gin and Gull Rock Vodka are made in small batches and can be bought online. Visit this distillery in Sandymount or try a gin cocktail made with a Sandymount product in one of Dunedin’s bars.

5. No8 Distillery

Creations like No8 pineapple rum and their limoncello are ever-interesting and tantalising. Hibiscus gin and their family recipe absinthe are examples of what makes this Dunedin distillery so great. A generational affair, this boutique distillery made the people of Dunedin happy when it opened, thanks to owners who have distilling in their blood. Now located on Hanover Street in the centre of town, No8 Distillery is the place to go for gin tasting or a distillery tour followed by a cocktail-making class. Join the passionate team for one of their daily tasting sessions (five days a week) or embark on a foraging journey with master distiller Julian to get a taste of how they forage for native plants and flowers around Dunedin.

6. Arc Brewing Co

If you’re looking for beers that would be hard to replicate, aren’t produced on a massive scale and are just plain tasty, Arc Brewing Co is your place. This Dunedin brewery is tucked away in Blueskin Bay, and the appeal of this destination adds to the experience. Drive 20 minutes (ish) out of Dunedin central, heading north up the coast, and pull into this beachside brewery. While the pro brewers are on the tools, they entrust local food trucks to feed the thirsty punters. This is one of the best Dunedin breweries to visit time and time again. Arc Brewing Co is a great spot for weddings or other private functions for those looking for a relaxed, character-filled venue.

Take time to explore the area and roam around Doctor’s Point Reserve to soak up what the outskirts of Dunedin are all about.

7. Dunedin Craft Distillers

Down near the Otago Harbour on Roberts Street is the home of the Dunedin Craft Distillers . This is the place where distillers are crafting spirits from bread. Over 7,000 kgs of surplus bread has been turned into spirits by the keen crew at Dunedin Craft Distillers. This alone is enough to entice locals and visitors to their ‘Bread to Bottle tour’ to discover just how this process works. Tour the brew house and distillery and sample their spirits alongside some bread and crackers. These small group tours are a unique thing to do in Dunedin that will stir the senses and get your creative mind flowing. Who would have thought that tonnes of bakery products that were destined for landfill could be turned into award-winning spirits?

Try their Dunedin dry gin and their cacao vodka. Visit the Saturday Otago Farmers Market to try their mulled gin in winter!

DUNEDIN BREWERY TOURS

The southern city of Dunedin is synonymous with Speight’s, everyone's seen their query dancing adverts on the TV and even the Australians know what a Speights is alongside the famous by line of “good on ya mate”.

Speights is the oldest working brewery in New Zealand and we are lucky enough to have it right here in Dunedin - established in 1876 James Speight, Charles Greenslade and William Dawson quit their jobs in 1876 to brew their own beers little did they know they were also brewing up a lasting legacy!

Then in 1992 a local man named Richard Emerson started another brewery that would be change the craft beer scene, redefining brewing in this country – done right here in Dunedin! This brewery is one of my personal favourites, not because I love beer but quite simply I love the fairy-tale story of Richard Emmerson so ensure you pop in whilst in town or if your on a tour with me I'm happy to share a drink with you at the end of the day – namely of flight of Emmerson beers – aka a tasting tray of six beers - it is a great way to sample their range of styles - if your like me you’ll love the fact the beers are often named after local attractions, or stories.

Since those early days of Emmerson’s several more boutique breweries have since joined the ranks from tiny taprooms down inner-city alleys, to cellar doors in the suburbs.

New New New Corporation is found withing an old building on Crawford Street that formerly housed the horses that pulled Dunedin’s trams in the 19th century. This brewery has drawn crowds of the more adventurous beer drinkers for its boundary-pushing creations, from lip-smacking sours to stouts infused with smoked eel. The taproom is its own experience so don’t miss stopping by – historic stables with colourful lighting and brewing equipment sets the scene for the atmosphere.

Another stop I love to add onto tours is the Arc Brewery Co. it’s a short 20 minute drive north of Dunedin on the main SH1 and its definitely worth the trip. Formed from an old hotel that was going no where this hip brewery has been made into a very functional taproom that has a rotating roster of fabulous food trucks and live music – a totally hip place to spend an afternoon!

• Dunedin Brewery

The award-winning Dunedin Brewery is the oldest microbrewery in Florida. It was founded in 1995—delivered its first batch of beer in 1996—and calls downtown Dunedin home. All its beers are hand-crafted in small batches of 14 barrels brewed on site. Dunedin Brewery offers a wide selection of beer, from experimental, world class brews to classic ales and stouts. The brewery houses its production facility, tasting room, and full kitchen, and features live entertainment most nights of the week. It has a large outdoor seating area to enjoy with friends, and is also kid-friendly and dog-friendly (outside only). Dunedin Brewery paved the way for Florida’s craft beer scene, forming the Florida Brewers Guild , fighting the Florida bottle law, and forming Tampa Bay Beer Week .

• 7venth Sun Brewery

The woman-owned/operated 7venth Sun was founded in 2012 in downtown Dunedin. It’s a 3.5 barrel system, small batch brewery, producing most of its Saisons and lagers in this location. 7venth Sun loves to experiment and brews many variations of the traditional Berliner Weisse using tropical and citrus fruits to create Florida Weisse beers—perfect for the Sunshine State. Its taproom is cozy and has plenty of outdoor seating. No food, but there are several food options nearby. 7venth Sun opened its Tampa taproom in the Seminole Heights neighborhood in 2017, which produces barrel-aged beers, sours, Saisons, and IPAs—all which are on tap in its Dunedin taproom.

Woodwright Brewing Company

Woodwright Brewing was founded in 2016 and gets its name from the shared woodworking shop, the historic Dunedin Woodwright. It’s a 2 barrel brewery focused on German and European style beers—strongly adhering to the German purity laws that allow for only hops, barely, water, and, now, yeast. Woodwright Brewing Company centers around its unique, woodworking past, and welcomes guests into its taproom, loft, and beer garden. It’s also known for live music, especially traditional bluegrass music, and hosts shows in the woodworking shop on “special nights.” Woodwright Brewing offers a full kitchen from The Duneatery , conveniently located in the beer garden. Caledonia Brewing is a small-batch craft brewery that pays tribute to Dunedin’s Scottish heritage. Founded in 2017, the brewery is located in the historic Dunedin Times building, and is well-known for its Rat Arsed Scottish Ale and Half Arsed Scottish Ale. HOB Brewing was founded in 2017 and is located right off the Pinellas Trail in downtown Dunedin. The brewery is headed by two friends and neighbors who in 2009 opened the Dunedin House of Beer —40 taps in 350 square feet. HOB Brewing offers a wide variety of craft beer pouring from 24 taps and 20+ brewed on site. Its taproom has a huge outdoor and recreation area, and two-story event pavilion for live music. The food menu is limited with plenty of options nearby. HOB Brewing is family-friendly and dog-friendly, with outdoor games to entertain the kids (and kids at heart).

Soggy Bottom Brewing Company

Soggy Bottom Brewing was founded by three buddies in 2016 in downtown Dunedin. Housed in a unique post-Prohibition and industrial theme atmosphere, the brewery offers a variety of hand-crafted beer to meet everyone’s tastes—porters, Hefeweizens, ales, IPAs, and more. There’s plenty of seating in its outdoor patio or hang inside and play a game or two with friends. The brewery doesn’t serve food, but shares a building with Q Southern BBQ —it’s literally a step away.

Founded in 2020, Beach Island Brewery is a nano-brewery located in north Dunedin. The brewery has a custom two barrel brewing system to create its high-quality, small batch brews. Beach Island Brewery doesn’t have any flagship beers, instead, the head brewer collects yeast from around the world to create a variety of beer-styles and flavors from dark beers and lagers to hoppy IPAs and fruit beers. The head brewer was originally trained on the 1516 German purity laws and has been brewing for over three decades. Beach Island Brewery is small, but cozy, and has limited seating inside and outside. All kinds of high-end luxury sailing you could ever imagine can be experienced on Catamarans Over 50 Feet. It just depends on the boat at hand. Why spend your holiday cruising or liveaboard on a monohull when comfortable catamarans exist?

A catamaran is quite different from a regular monohull. Catamarans are typically designed with two equal-sized hulls and derive their stability from their wide beam; unlike a one-hulled boat deriving stability from a loaded undersurface.

The average catamaran is 38-47 feet in size. Usually, they are equipped with four large cabins with double or queen-sized beds, each cabin having an in-suite head. Back in 2019, the Lagoon 50 was awarded the best multihull of Sail Magazine. A product of the world’s largest boat manufacturer Lagoon, established in 1984, is majorly famous for the design and construction of cruising catamarans, which infuse top-notch designs, upscale comfort, and great sailing performances to one’s boating experience. Every detail is carefully thought out to establish novel and spacious architecture with a homely ambiance.

It’s a perfect balance between the model Lagoon 450 and the lofty 52. The Lagoon 50 has an encompassing view, generous volumes with a self-tacking jib, and a shorter mast for easily simplified maneuvers. It has two cockpits, one large one facing the sea and the other for seating at foredeck or on a deck chair. The hulls being large enough to contain more than 2 cabins, you can have up to six cabins. Looking for something contemporary and luxurious? Lagoon 52 takes the cake in that way. This boat signified a new stage in the design of cruising catamarans. The Lagoon 52 is a product of the prolonged conversations between Lagoon’s customary VPLP, Nauto design agency, and the Lagoon design department. It comes in two versions: The Lagoon 52 FlyBridge, known as Lagoon 52F, and Lagoon 52 SporTop.

The combination of onboard comfort with its sailing performance is perfect and in sync. The wide side decks allow easy movement onboard. The cockpit and saloon also offer spacious living areas. The vertical bows of the boat have a diamond-shaped appearance with diagonal shaped hull and a lifting deck house.

The boat is easily accessible and safe thanks to the open rear skirts. Most of the features in this luxurious watercraft can be found in the aforementioned Lagoon 50. It has a perfect blend for its easy use, a comfy, elegant interior, amazing space, and lighting. You’re sure to get your money’s worth with the LAGOON 52.

Privilege Series 5

Price: Around $1-1.5 Million USD

At 50 feet, this boat is quite marvelous and a privilege to spend your time in as a cruiser or owner. The Privilège Series 5 is the world’s first 50 feet sailing catamaran. This vessel was built by Privilège Marine, a French company based in Les Sables-d’Olonne, France. They are famous for building premium luxury catamarans and designed by French Naval Architect Marc Lombard. The Privilège Series 5 is equipped with three or four double and a full-sized owner’s cabin located in the yacht’s center. It’s a lightweight boat at 48500 pounds and could go up to 52900 depending on the size.

It has great customization options, and it can be designed to suit the boat owner’s taste. The attention to detail on the boat is nothing short of perfection as the interior design, woodwork, safety measurements laid out by the boat’s design, aesthetics, ventilation, etc., was thought out good. The vessel’s finishing is really phenomenal as everything has a high level of craftsmanship.

Leopard 50L

Price: Around $1 Million USD

The Leopard 48, which was launched in 2012, was one of the most popular cruising cats ever designed. But the design was beginning to become dated, even as new orders kept coming in. So, Robertson & Caine, who build the Leopard cats, set out to improve on what was already great. The new 50 was their answer and comes with many innovations that will make owners happy. We test sailed the 50L last winter in Florida. The L version has the optional lounge on top of the hardtop over the cockpit. Unlike some cats with flying bridges and lounges up high, the 50L doesn’t feel like a layer wedding cake.

The steering station is a traditional raised helm to starboard, and the lounge is just up a few stairs from there. The helmsman is in contact with those in the main cockpit and those in the lounge. Out sailing, we got the 50L up to 10 knots in a good breeze, so the boat is fast. It is also commodious and will make a very comfortable home for a family or a charter party.

Price: From $450k To $1.5 Million on the Used Market

Leopard 58 is a superb layout from Leopard, skilfully modeled by award-winning designers Robertson & Caine. This extravagant catamaran is suited to the prolific and innovative catamarans that have made Leopard famous while still giving out fresh features and various design options.

This expansive FlyBridge takes space to a whole new dimension as it is larger than its siblings with their award-winning aspects. A Flybridge is basically a version of catamarans that affords you the luxury of outdoor space, come rain or shine. Leopard 58 is more about space, bragging about 750 square feet in just the saloon alone. It gives you amazing comfort and is naturally luminous. Popularly called the Seawind 52 because of its 52 feet size. The Seawind 52′ 1600 is designed by world-renowned architects Reichel Pugh. Like the Lagoon 52, it’s a perfect balance for onboard comfort and performance sailing and sea safety. Perfect for sailors or boat lovers who are looking for a little extra.

This catamaran sets a standard for offshore sailing because of its simple sailing methods, large open cockpit space, and twin protected helms. Equipped with a three or four-cabin design that affords the owner’s cabin expansive living space, great storage, high aspect riders, daggerboards, an elegant fit/finish, and infused carbon-reinforced construction.

Seawind 1600

Price: Around $1 Million USD New

The new Seawind 1600 has been in the works for a while and has finally arrived on the market. The Reichel Pugh design is a departure from the more conservative looks of the other Seawinds and embraces a very Euro-style with plumb bows, hard chines, a swept-back cabin, and a large open cockpit with helm stations on both sides. The boat is a pure performance cruiser that was conceived as a blue water voyaging boat for a family. At 52 feet, it falls within the size range that an experienced couple can handle, so it would make a great platform for a couple to explore the world. The 1600 like all of the Seawinds and Corsairs, are built in Vietnam.

Nautitech 542

Nautitech 542 is the typical example of offshore meeting first class. This boat has ideally tweaked fittings for smooth sailing under any circumstances. Furnished with a single wheel on its roof for perfect views of the boat and a comfy 2-person seat. The idea of this boat is mostly based on performance and quality. Asides from the positions of the helm, Nautitech 541 and 542 are very similar. Nautitech 542 is large and luxurious. The sail controls at the helm stations for easy sailing maneuvers and perfect for all weather conditions. The interior was designed by French designer Franck Darnet. Multihull impresario, dealer, and broker Phil Berman (The Multihull Company) has sold more multihulls over the last 30 years than just about anyone. His latest project has been the development of the Balance line of performance cruising cats. Aimed at Blue-water sailors looking to sail fast and far, Switch 51 has proved itself and regarded in this day as a remarkable ocean cruising catamaran. This classic high-performance voyage was designed by VPLP and is said to combine a level of comfort, performance, and safety. It was built by Sud Composites in France with high tech materials. Sud initially built about 18 of these classic catamarans from 2001 to 2007.

Switch 51 hulls are built with vinyl ester sandwiched with a Klegecelle PVC foam core, thereby creating a hull light enough to be real quick and heavy enough to handle the ocean waves and swells. The saloon and galley are huge, with the cockpit spacious. The layout and accommodation are perfect for a small family with classic amenities aimed at making your stay on board a memorable one. This also a pretty affordable option in this category with prices on the used market as low as 450k.

Strange Glow Over Moscow Skies Triggers Panic as Explosions Reported

B right flashes lit up the night sky in southern Moscow in the early hours of Thursday morning, new footage appears to show, following reports of an explosion at an electrical substation on the outskirts of the city.

Video snippets circulating on Russian-language Telegram channels show a series of flashes on the horizon of a cloudy night sky, momentarily turning the sky a number of different colors. In a clip shared by Russian outlet MSK1.ru, smoke can be seen rising from a building during the flashes lighting up the scene.

Newsweek was unable to independently verify the details of the video clips, including when and where it was filmed. The Russian Ministry of Emergency situations has been contacted via email.

Several Russian Telegram accounts said early on Thursday that residents of southern Moscow reported an explosion and a fire breaking out at an electrical substation in the Leninsky district, southeast of central Moscow.

Local authorities in the Leninsky district told Russian outlet RBC that the explosion had happened in the village of Molokovo. "All vital facilities are operating as normal," Leninsky district officials told the outlet.

The incident at the substation in Molokovo took place just before 2 a.m. local time, MSK1.ru reported.

Messages published by the ASTRA Telegram account, run by independent Russian journalists, appear to show residents close to the substation panicking as they question the bright flashes in the sky. One local resident describes seeing the bright light before losing access to electricity, with another calling the incident a "nightmare."

More than 10 villages and towns in the southeast of Moscow lost access to electricity, the ASTRA Telegram account also reported. The town of Lytkarino to the southeast of Moscow, lost electricity, wrote the eastern European-based independent outlet, Meduza.

Outages were reported in the southern Domodedovo area of the city, according to another Russian outlet, as well as power failures in western Moscow. Electricity was then restored to the areas, the Strana.ua outlet reported.

The cause of the reported explosion is not known. A Telegram account aggregating news for the Lytkarino area described the incident as "an ordinary accident at a substation."

The MSK1.ru outlet quoted a local resident who speculated that a drone may have been responsible for the explosion, but no other Russian source reported this as a possible cause.

Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Moscow with long-range aerial drones in recent months, including a dramatic wave of strikes in late May.

On Sunday, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said the region's air defense systems had intercepted an aerial drone over the city of Elektrostal, to the east of Moscow. No damage or casualties were reported, he said.

The previous day, Russian air defenses detected and shot down another drone flying over the Bogorodsky district, northeast of central Moscow, Sobyanin said.

There is currently no evidence that an aerial drone was responsible for the reported overnight explosion at the electrical substation in southern Moscow.
