Motor Yacht

Montkaj is a custom motor yacht launched in 1995 by Amels in Makkum, Netherlands and most recently refitted in 2000.

AMELS are masters in the art of modern Dutch high-value yacht building. The yard is the largest superyacht facility in the Netherlands and one of the top superyacht builders in the world. In 2005 AMELS launched the successful LIMITED EDITIONS and delivered the first yacht of the series in 2007. The shipyard also specialises in the build of full-custom superyachts, with the in-construction Project Signature due to become the largest superyacht ever built in the Netherlands upon her scheduled launch in 2025.

Montkaj measures 78.03 metres in length, with a max draft of 3.90 metres and a beam of 12.89 metres. She has a gross tonnage of 1,980 tonnes. She has a deck material of teak.

Montkaj has a steel hull with an aluminium superstructure.

Terence Disdale Design is an award-winning design studio responsible for the interior and exterior design of the some of the world’s most significant yachts. Based in the UK, the studio is renowned for producing refreshingly casual yet chic designs.

Montkaj also features naval architecture by Amels.

Performance and Capabilities

Montkaj has a top speed of 18.00 knots and a cruising speed of 15.00 knots. She is powered by a twin screw propulsion system.

Montkaj has a fuel capacity of 385,000 litres, and a water capacity of 55,000 litres.

Montkaj accommodates up to 24 guests in 12 cabins. She also houses room for up to 22 crew members.

The 78.05m/256'1" motor yacht 'Montkaj' (ex. Sea Dation) was built by Amels in the Netherlands at their Makkum shipyard. Her interior is styled by English designer design house Terence Disdale and she was completed in 1995. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Terence Disdale and she was last refitted in 1999.

A General Description of Motor Yacht MONTKAJ

This 78 metre (256 ft) luxury yacht was manufactured by Amels Yachts (Of The Damen Shipyard Group) in 1995. Motor Yacht MONTKAJ is a volumous superyacht. The naval architecture office that made this yacht's design in respect of this ship was Amels and Terence Disdale Design. The original interior design work is the brain child of Terence Disdale Design. Luxury yacht MONTKAJ is a handsome yacht that is able to sleep a total of 12 passengers on board and has approximately 22 crew members.

In 1998 she returned to the Amels shipyard for a refit. At this time she was lengthened by 3m on her aft section.

Build & Yacht Design relating to Luxury Yacht MONTKAJ

Amels was the naval architect involved in the technical nautical plans for MONTKAJ. Also the company Amels and Terence Disdale Design expertly worked on this venture. Interior designer Terence Disdale Design was employed for the overall internal ambience. the Netherlands is the country that Amels Yachts (Of The Damen Shipyard Group) built their new build motor yacht in. After formal launch in 1995 in Makkum she was handed over to the yacht owner following final finishing. A sizeable area is manifested with a total beam (width) of 12.89 metres or 42.3 feet. With a 3.9m (12.8ft) draught (maximum depth) she is fairly deep. The material steel was used in the building of the hull of the motor yacht. Her superstructure above deck is built from aluminium. In 2000 further refit work and modernisation was in addition finished.

Engines & Speed For M/Y MONTKAJ:

The 3516 DITA engine installed in the motor yacht is made by CATERPILLAR. MONTKAJ is propelled by twin screw propellers. The engine of the ship generates 2490 horse power (or 1832 kilowatts). She is fitted with 2 engines. The combined power for the boat is therefore 4980 HP / 3664 KW. With respect to stabalisers she utilises Vosper.

Apportioning cabins for a maximum of 12 welcome guests staying on board, the MONTKAJ accommodates everyone in luxury. The boat requires approx 22 professional yacht crew to maintain and sail.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Horizon yachts update regarding covid-19.

In light of the rapidly evolving situation surrounding the novel coronavirus COVID-19, Horizon Yachts is implementing several precautionary measures out of an abundance of caution for our clients and employees.

HORIZON YACHTS HEADQUARTERS

Thanks to the extremely rapid response and safety protocols implemented by the Taiwanese government at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak, the Horizon Yachts headquarters and shipyards in Kaohsiung are able to continue business operations as normal.

HORIZON YACHT USA OFFICE

Following local government guidelines, Horizon Yachts USA has resumed regular office hours in our North Palm Beach location. We strongly encourage appointments for any in-person office visits and require all visitors to abide by local mandates currently in effect. Boat showings and sea trials in the Fort Lauderdale office will continue by appointment.

The health and safety of our entire Horizon family, from our owners and their families to our staff and friends, remains our top priority. We will continue to closely monitor the coronavirus situation and remain committed to mitigating risk wherever possible. By way of background, my business interests include controlling stakes in 3 publicly traded companies which operate vessels in the 500 to 5000dwt range. Consequently, when I decided to build my first large motor yacht, I did not feel I needed the services of a company like Moran Yacht & Ship. In any event, I was persuaded to let them negotiate on my behalf while I simultaneously held discussions with other building options.
