Chef/Stew Liz Wilkins Cathrina Wilkens, more affectionately known as Lizzie, was raised in South Africa with two obsessions; cooking and the ocean. Before she could read she could wield a potato peeler. She loved being in the kitchen with Mom and Grandma, cooking up a storm and preserving all the fruits of their farm in Pretoria. She says, “Grandma’s kitchen opened first thing in the morning when Grandpa’s feet hit the ground. The daily menu was fit for a 5-star restaurant. School holidays, she traded her apron for a swimsuit and the beaches of Durban, where she swam in the ocean from morning till evening with brothers, sisters and Dad. Lizzie has been wielding that potato peeler in restaurants, hotels, lodges and yachts ever since. She has been an apprentice to top chefs around the world. She has traveled throughout Europe, England, America, Africa, Oman and the Caribbean to assimilate flavors and techniques. She explains her innovative ‘Liz Style’, “I take a taste of all the places I have been and fuse that into one dish. I love Asian flavors so there is always a hint of Asia in my dishes. My menu is healthy, light, with an explosion of flavors.” Lizzie is a precious asset on ISLAND GIRL. She has lots of experience with special diets and requests and goes out of her way to make sure the guests are happy and their taste buds are even happier. Jury awards nearly $70.6 million in yacht rape case

The rape took place on board the Endless Summer, a 130-foot vessel that was docked at Universal Marine Center, 2700 SW 25th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale, on Feb. 25, 2015.

The woman told police that she worked as a stewardess for the company that owned the yacht, Island Girl Ltd.

Rafael Dowgwillowicz-Nowicki was a deckhand, according to the lawsuit. The only other person on board was the yacht’s captain, Kurt Comececk.

Dowgwillowicz-Nowicki was arrested and charged with four counts of sexual battery after the woman reported he entered her cabin drunk and forced her to have sex with him, threatening to kill her if she did not go along with it. He pleaded guilty in December 2016 and served a two-year sentence. By then he had already served most of his sentence.

He was later deported to Poland

The lawsuit alleged that Island Girl, a limited liability corporation owned by Michael Poole, of Maryland, failed to provide proper security for the victim. The victim, the captain and Dowgwillowicz-Nowicki were required to stay on board the Endless Summer overnight. She was not issued a walkie-talkie to alert anyone on board that something was wrong, according to the lawsuit.

“She was screaming for her life at the top of her lungs,” said her lawyer, Brad Edwards of the Edwards Pottinger law firm in Fort Lauderdale. “She was raped for over an hour before she escaped and got the captain’s attention.”

The jury awarded the woman $70,000 in lost wages, $4.2 million in lost future earnings and $66 million for pain and suffering. She was also awarded $290,050 in past and future medical expenses.

The victim is now 23 and, while pleased with the outcome of the trial, remains traumatized by the rape, her lawyer said.

“She sleeps with the lights on and a machete and baseball bat at her side,” he said. “This is not something she’s going to get over anytime soon.”

Michael Pennekamp, the attorney representing Island Girl, could not be reached for comment Tuesday despite two messages left at his office. Further information about the company and its owner were not available Tuesday.

The yacht, Endless Summer, is registered in the Marshall Islands. It is now berthed at Bahia Mar in Fort Lauderdale.

Accommodations.

ISLAND GIRL accommodates 6 guests in 3 staterooms. Master King is aft with ensuite his/her heads and full entertainment center. One Guest VIP and one guest stateroom each with queen bed and full ensuite heads.

The galley counter tops are granite and the main counter has been extended aft to include a lighted china cabinet with beveled glass inserts for great see-through dinnerware storage.

The dinette table is also made of granite for great country-kitchen style breakfast dining.

The main salon has a 42′ Wide-screen TV in a custom raised panel cabinet with a lift. The TV can be viewed in the up or down position.

The aft deck has covered alfresco dining with ample seating for 6-8 guests.

Captain: Dustin Smith:

Captain Dustin’s comes to ISLAND GIRL as a highly qualified Captain with many years of experience in yachting. He is a skilled Captain/Engineer with multiple certificates and a Certified Dive Master as well.

He hails from South Carolina and has been on the water most of his life. He holds the following certificates:

He has traveled the seas from Florida to New England, the island chain of the Bahamas and the Caribbean islands as well. He will bring years of experience to our charter guests and be able to show them a magnificent time while aboard whether it be in the Bahamas, New England or the Caribbean.

Owner’s Stateroom (aft) port side with Island queen bed, “Hereshoff” style teak interior with bureau, hanging locker, desk, nightstand, teak parquet sole, and overhead 12V lighting and 110V lighting. There are windows that open on three sides of this cabin, and there is 16,0000 BTU air conditioning.

Saloon looking forward to helm, galley, and windshield. Tasteful “Hereshoff” style décor with hand built teak cabinetry and parquet sole throughout. The Saloon has a large “L” settee, teak yacht table with folding leaves, 2 GB chairs with ottomans, television, and stereo speakers. An overhead teak handrail runs the length of the cabin. There are large opening windows with screens, and air-conditioning as well.

Galley with upper- lower refrigerator/freezer, double stainless steel sink, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, and range with oven. There is ample storage in upper and lower cabinets and drawers.

Lower helm station with GB teak wheel, dual engine controls and instrumentation, chart plotter, compass, and overhead electronics garage with VHF, auto pilot, etc.

Island Girl has 2 full heads with showers in the Owner’s Stateroom. Both heads have cultured marble sinks and countertops, teak joinery, opening windows, and ample storage.

The starboard side head has a generous linen closet, shower stall, and parquet sole. There is teak grating on the sole in the shower stall.

The port side head has an integral shower and a teak grating sole to prevent slipping. There is a compact washer/dryer in this head as well.

Forward stateroom with full size berth, hanging locker, overhead hatch, opening windows, storage drawers beneath berth, an a bookshelf. There is an overhead ventilated hatch, which really scoops air into the boat when at anchor. But don’t worry, there is air-conditioning in here as well!

The forward head has a cultured marble sink and countertop, shower stall, teak parquet sole, opening window, storage below and behind the sink.

The port side forward cabin has two single berths with ample storage drawers beneath. There is a hanging locker, overhead lighting, opening windows, an overhead hatch, reading lamps, a bookshelf, and air conditioning.

Island Girl has painted fiberglass decks with non-skin. There is a flybridge deck and an aft deck, wide side decks and good working room on the foredeck.

Island Girl has the typical GB anchor platform with twin capstan windlass. The Bruce anchor is on-chain rode, the Danforth is on a chain to rope rode.
