What is an Inflatable Catamaran?

With a design based on geometry, just like their traditional non-inflatable counterparts, inflatable catamarans offer stability and smooth sailing due to the wide beam and double- hulled tubes on either side.

This isn't your typical full-size dive/snorkel/sightseeing catamaran you've seen in the local marina. They range in size from eight to 15 or so feet and can be propelled by sails, an outboard engine or a pair of oars.

The unique thing about inflatable catamarans is that they, well, inflate, as well as deflate for storage in a car or on a bigger boat. This also makes it easier to carry to and from the water.  

Similar in design to a pontoon boat, inflatable catamarans have actually been called pontoon boats (though they're technically not), along with fishing boats or even inflatable kayak s (which they're really not either).

Hi, the wheels seem good, the quality is good, but you could have put ball bearings in there in some way that you can change at regular intervals. Now we have ice on the lake, we've had that for a while, so I haven't tried the wheels in real life if there is any such. After all, I had the honor of paying taxes that surely go towards improving the world, however you now look at what is better. Anyway, best regards.

The wheels are real easy to put down and retract. My only concern is the tyres on the wheels appear to be retreads.

I haven't had the time to use the boat yet, but have assembled and inflated the boat. Compared to the Zodiac Granride MK3, it's a lot lighter, and the inflatable deck is much easier then the zodiacs hard deck to get in place. So just from looking at the TrueKit, i think the quality is up at the zodiac level, and looking forward to try out the boat in the water!

The Bimini top fits beautifully onto my Discovery 2.8. You can tell that a lot of thought went into its construction and design, as the ropes, cleats, and clips all fit exactly as they are supposed to and create an extremely sturdy top. I’m so glad that I ordered it—it will give me shade and protection on the hottest of days. I mount a solar panel to my 1103 Torqeedo motor and the bimini supports it with no problem. I’ve also tried it in ripping winds—this top holds up great. Highly recommend for an enhanced boating experience.

Durable Hull Tube Construction

All Takacat boat models are available in both PVC and Hypalon fabric construction. Standard tubes are fabricated from durable custom-made 0.9mm, 1000 denier PVC. Digital Camo and Woodland Camo color options are built using thicker 1mm, 1200 denier PVC for extra rub and tear resistance in flooded timber and murky, backcountry water. All models can be custom ordered in Hypalon fabric for exceptional UV protection and resistance to extreme temperatures.

Permatrim Plate

Lift the power and performance of your Takacat’s gas-powered outboard motor with a Permatrim Hydrofoil. The catamaran design with a single, centralized outboard lends itself to ventilation on higher power outboards. This is more prevalent in the shorter models, but can be brought out on any of the Takacat boats.

We have a remedy to this problem by way of another New Zealand product—Permatrim. This foil plate bolts to the cav plate (the little tongue that sticks out over the propeller) and does a good job of fixing cavitation issues. It also helps get the boat on plane quicker and easier, and reduces splashing from the transom when underway. Fitment Guide:

The specific Triton upgrades vary on a product by product basis but basically equates to "Cadillac" features which have been customized for each model. The Triton upgrades provide our customers/guides/outfitters with top-of-the-line upgrades which typically include Leafield inflation and pressure relief valves ($150-250 valve depending on model), German Mehler or Heytex PVC, high-frequency heat-welded seam construction, an upgraded warranty, and higher quality accessories (ie hand pumps, storage bags, rowing oars). Our new premium series "Saturn Triton" inflatable boats were created with the intent to provide the absolute highest quality construction and a technical design that rivals the highest end boats in the world. About the FoldCat™ Series

The Sea Eagle FoldCat™ features a patented folding system allowing this inflatable pontoon boat to be fully assemble in just minutes! When fully inflated, lightweight aluminum cross boards and under bars combine to create a rigid fishing platform giving anglers a full access deck. This boat is ideal for two anglers to stand and cast in all directions.

I use the boat to float / fish our local river which I used to fish frequently but a canoe became too cramped and unstable. This river is rocky, class 1 / 2 rapids. The Foldcat allows us to comfortably fish the river. I have a trailer it slides into perfectly. The dolly makes it easy to wheel for longer distances and can be strapped on the boat to use at take out if needed. The handle placement on pontoons makes it easy for 2 people to carry it. I have both seats at the higher level and they spin 360 deg. The boat is very stable to fish from, handles all our gear and I have 4 rod holders. Steering is not difficult- much easier than a one person pontoon.

I use an anchor drop at the bow but don’t use the front bar. Do not leave it in the sun out of the water for long or the air chambers can expand too much and pull out of the connection to pontoons - a pain to fix. I’ve had more fun fishing on the river since I got the Foldcat and highly recommend it, well engineered and constructed!

We highly recommend our 303 Aerospace protectant. Its like a sunscreen/wax for your inflatable boat. You apply every 6 weeks or so and it keep the material very healthy and looking like new! - www.seaeagle.com/Accessories/care-preservation/303-protectant

This is my second Foldcat, my first one was the original. Adding a larger deck, stand up bar and multi chambers is a great upgrade. My original lasted 15 years and I sold it as good as new, never had a puncture. These boats are tough as nails. My boat as you can see is completely fitted. I moved the stand up bar to the rear for me to get in and out of easier. I suffered a brain injury and I have trouble with my balance. I have a lithium ion battery that lasts me days and is half the weight of a lead acid. A 55lb thrust motor is plenty for me to enjoy a great day on the water. I have rivers, lakes and ocean in my area and this boat has seen all types of water bodies. You can fit this boat with as much as you like unlike other boats in the seaeagle line up. I have ten rod holders on my boat. You will not regret purchasing this boat, affordable and versatile.

One season in and we are loving this fishing boat. I built a handy wheel kit for launching it and a clamp on tongue so I can tow it from the campsite to the boat launch and back... which completely disassembles for easy storage in the pickup box with the packed up boat. The 70lb thrust trolling motor was an excellent choice and we have found we can be out on the water for hours and never run the battery down. We have two tiny chihuahuas that ride on the boat with us and they like it better than the canoe we had before. I picked up a snowboard bag to carry all the aluminum pieces as well as the canopy in and an electronic keyboard bag for carrying the trolling motor in so everything sits nicely in the truck box and doesn't roll around. If anybody wants to see more pictures of the wheel kit, feel free to contact me.

Love the Platform!!! Perfect for an old codger like me. I would have given a FIVE * rating if only the standup bar were easier to lay back. The videos make it look so simple, but I find my fighting it. I'd remove it if I didn't need the stabilization (I'm old remember) boarding.

Super Stable Pontoon Stance On The Water
