My wife and I were married on the Henry Longfellow. It was an incredible evening. The family and friends that joined us, the amazing staff, and our first mate/onboard manager Allison made it a night we will truly never forget. Thank you again to everyone that made that night so perfect! We want to give a special shout out to our event coordinator, Kaitlin. We initially had two separate venues for our wedding. We planned to have just the reception on the Henry Longfellow, while the ceremony takes place in Boston. It was only a month out from our wedding day, when our ceremony venue fell through and we had to scramble to find an alternative solution. During that stressful time, Kaitlin did an amazing job working with us to combine our ceremony and reception on the Henry Longfellow. She was comforting, accommodating, and a joy to work with. We couldn't have planned our wedding without her! The absolute best!!! Sincerely, Brian & Katy

Brian and Katy, we appreciate your kind words! We are so glad you had an amazing time celebrating your wedding onboard the Henry Longfellow and that Kaitlin and Allison were able to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you. We wish you all the best and can't wait to have you onboard with us again in the future!
Planned a corporate social event through Charles Riverboat Company to take a party of greater than 40 people out on a post-work cruise along the Charles River on a weekday evening. We organized a 2 hour cruise with dinner and drinks included. Dayna and Kaitlin were fantastic to work with to help coordinate the event even as we made tweaks and changes through the planning process in the month and days leading up to the event, and they went above and beyond to ensure that everything went smoothly and without a hitch.

We're thrilled to hear that you had a wonderful time at your corporate outing on the Charles River! Thank you for joining us, and we're glad Dayna and Kaitlin and our crew contributed to a fantastic experience. We hope to have you onboard again soon!
Took the Architecture tour a couple of weeks ago. I'm not really into architecture but it was the only tour available on the day I had time to be a tourist. I was worried it would be boring because of the architecture theme, but it wasn't at all! The tour guide was delightful and I even learned the difference between modern, postmodern, and contemporary architecture so I can impress my friends. Customer service was also great -- I'd originally booked a tour on the wrong date, when I wouldn't be in Boston anymore, because I'm smart like that. There was no way to change it online, but their customer service was happy to switch me to a new date for free after I emailed them. Really nice folks. The boat was comfy enough and the views were great. It does get cold on board so dress warmly during the shoulder seasons.

Thank you so much for your kind words, we are so happy to hear you had a great experience onboard our Architecture tour! We hope to have you back the next time you are in Boston!
We had a lovely time cruising on the Charles River on a beautiful summer night in Boston. Twenty-six of us gathered onboard and enjoyed drinks and a wonderful catered dinner of salmon, pesto gnocchi, grilled vegetables, salmon, rice, homemade focaccia, and potatoes. Dessert included chili jars lava cakes and fruit tarts. Taking in the sights of Boston while enjoying the slight breeze in the air made for a wonderful evening.
Grayson was an awesome tour guide. Informative, funny, personable. I really wish they accepted cash for the tickets and for the food, especially since their computer was down! Definitely a good value at $24

CHARLES RIVERBOAT COMPANY If you've been following us for a bit, then you know how much we our favorite city, Boston! It had been a long four years living in Florida, but one of the activities we grew to love were taking the riverboats (aka "The Pirate Taxi") up and down the Hillsborough River! Therefore, we were thrilled when we discovered Boston's very own equivalent - the "Charles Riverboat Company" cruises! Departing from the Cambridgeside Galleria, this company offers a number of different tour options, but for our first, we went with the classic "Cocktail & Sunset" excursion! We decided to take our voyage on a beautiful Monday evening! Warm breezes and light humidity, it was a great night to be on the river! Our boat was helmed by Captain Ed, with the interior serviced by the truly awesome (and knowledgeable) Barbara, who also acted as our bartender! So you know we had to make friends! Lasting for 90 minutes, we left East Cambridge, passing a number of Boston highlights from our past - including Kell's alma maters of MIT and BU, our first apartment on Bay State Road under the Citgo sign, and our favorite bustling Esplanade along the Charles - with our tour ending by Harvard, before turning around and heading back! It is a beautiful and fun experience for both Boston natives, and those visiting this amazing city - just make sure to watch the radar to avoid summer storms! Also, it is completely affordable around $29 each (cocktails not included) - so we highly recommend checking them out this summer while you can! We know we can't wait to come back for their Boston Harbor "Architecture Tour!" What's your favorite way to check out the Charles River or the Boston Harbor? Who would should we try next? We need more time on that "dirty water!!!" Visited On 08/01/2022

Hey Jayson! Thank you so much for your review. We are so glad you had a great experience on the water with us. We hope to have you on board again this season! Cheers, The CRBC Team
I wish there were more than 5 stars !!!! We had a fabulous party this weekend on the Valiant. What a wonderful experience. The Charles Riverboat Company Team could not have been more supportive. They listened to our party goals/ideas and created an evening beyond our expectations. Good music with a DJ, excellent food , and a great bar. The Company Team was there for us throughout the evening ---- just making sure that all was going well . The boat is beautiful. Everyone that attended had a great time. Beautiful weather and traveling on the water added to the party. I would highly recommend booking an event with this company. You will not be disappointed. The Charles Riverboat Company Team clearly is passionate about ensuring a wonderful experience for any group booking with them.
We are so glad to hear that you had an enjoyable cruise and planning experience! Thank you so much for your kind words and for choosing the Charles Riverboat Company!
Very well priced better then any tour in boston. The tour guide Dillion made the whole thing better. Very good narration of the history of Boston.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed your tour. We hope to welcome you back on board again in the future!
Incredible experience on board the Henry Longfellow! Cecily and her team always exceed our expectations they are amazing to work with! Sam our architectural tour guide was lively and fascinating! Our customers enjoyed every minute! We look forward to our next cruise!
We are so happy to hear that you had a great tour! We're always here to ensure our guests have a wonderful time, and we're delighted that you had such a positive experience with us. We hope to welcome you back on board again in the future!
I recently booked the general tour by mistake instead of the architectural tour which runs only a few times a week. They very kindly offered to rebook but since we were in Boston just for the day we went. It was surprisingly well done and an entertaining hour was spent.

Top Notch Service
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Charles Riverboat Company! From the very beginning of just searching around for a venue, to the wedding, and days after, the staff were incredibly responsive and helpful. They are so attentive and answered all my questions. Planning a wedding from across the country is challenging, but CRBC made it the best & most simplified experience. I would 100% do it again.
Charles Riverboat Company saved our wedding!
We had a small wedding on the Charles Riverboat Company's Valiant, and it was absolutely perfect! Like many couples this year, this was our second attempt at a wedding, and Melissa made it so easy to re-plan our ceremony and reception, all in a month's time. The staff was so accommodating to what we wanted for our celebration while taking all precautions to keep everyone safe - guests are still raving about how great our wedding was! The views of Boston and experience of seeing it at sunset from the water was incredible for both those that live in the area and those traveling from a bit further. We kept looking at each other during the event saying our wedding turned out even better than we originally planned. Thank you for making our amazing day happen and being a true bright spot in 2020!
Capers Catering & Charles Riverboat Company
Our team has had a wonderful experience working with the team at the Charles Riverboat Company for years. They are friendly, efficient, and responsive! We love working on their boats and highly recommend them.
Absolutely perfect - elegant, timeless, and easy!
We couldn't have asked for more from our wedding venue and coordinator. We changed to a small, intimate wedding due to COVID-19 but still wanted to do something special and memorable. The Valiant was the perfect choice. We looked at a few vessels from other companies and Valiant was by far the nicest and as a bonus, we got to work with the BEST coordinator ever, Melissa! Valiant itself is so elegant and classy; every detail is just what you would want. Melissa was flexible, helpful, and kind through the entire (very quick!!) planning process. On the day of the wedding, she anticipated our every need and made the entire experience seamless and relaxing for us. We made such special memories aboard Valiant on our wedding day and I wish I could relive the experience over and over!

Kayaking the Charles gave me a whole new perspective
Before our son was born last august, my husband and i set out to conquer the great waterway, one quirky stretch at a time. traveling by land will never be the same..
T he winter before last, my husband and I decided that we would kayak the entire Charles River. The plan was an antidote to bad-weather blues, something to dream about while we were trapped indoors. We wanted to venture beyond the routes we had already paddled. That last wide stretch before the Charles meets the sea, where the water parts the quaint brickwork of Cambridge from the skyscrapers of Boston? It’s iconic! But we’ve been there, done that. We wanted to see where the river went wild.
We’re hobbyist kayakers, so we waited for hypothermia season to end. You never know when you might fall in. It was late May, and I was pregnant, with an August due date. Plenty of time, we thought.
The casual observer wouldn’t recognize the beginning of the Charles as a river. Its source is Echo Lake, a drinking water reservoir in Hopkinton. No boats are allowed, so no one can kayak every last bit of the river’s 80-mile run. What follows is a series of intermittent puddles too piddling to float a boat. The question of where, exactly, the Charles becomes navigable is a point of debate among kayakers. It depends on how much reedy muck you’re willing to slop through.
We decided to treat Box Pond in Bellingham as our beginning of the Charles: It’s reedy, but more water than muck. We divided the new-to-us parts of the 78 miles from there to Boston Harbor into manageable chunks that we could knock out over the coming weekends, out of order to accommodate the vagaries of our commitments on land. Counting past sessions, it would take us 18 total excursions — mostly out-and-backs that returned to the launch, doubling the mileage — to finish the river.
We started our odyssey on a crisp spring day made for kayaking. By then, I was six months pregnant. My husband had to help me in and out of the kayak, but my belly didn’t get in the way too much. Out on the water, I fell into the trance of paddling, a steady rhythm propelling the boat forward.
With a whole Saturday blocked off, we chose to start with a nine-mile round trip from Millis to Medfield and back. We paddled up to an overpass suspended over the water, where cars sped by and disappeared into the brushy stands of trees that lined the banks. The thin stripe of road was a blip in my eyeful of water, leaves, and sky. Our boats slid under the roadway, we rounded a bend, and all signs of civilization disappeared.
At the end of the trip, after we strapped the kayaks to the top of the car and headed home, we crossed that same bridge. From the road, it was the river that looked insignificant: a line of water that appeared for a few seconds and vanished.
Fluid borders
I’m used to traveling the obvious paths through Boston and its surrounding towns. Highways in the shape of an archer’s target — 95 the inner ring, 495 the outer ring, 93 and 90 striking into the center of the city like arrows splitting the bullseye. The T and the commuter rail splintering out from downtown like cracks on a windshield.
The Charles carves another route entirely. On the way, it passes through, in this order, Milford, Bellingham, Franklin, Medway, Millis, Medfield, Sherborn, Dover, Natick, Wellesley, Needham, Dedham, Newton, Waltham, Watertown, Cambridge, and Boston, twisting around so that it flows through some towns twice. The river is everywhere, yet it is hidden. It’s the kind of secret world I dreamed of when I was a kid.
On the river, most animals aren’t too bothered by kayakers, as long as you keep your distance. There are exceptions. A swan chased us away from its nest. A merganser had the opposite strategy, hiding her ducklings in the reeds and leading us away from them. She flew just ahead of us down a slim stretch of marshy river, looking back to make sure we were still headed away from her babies. I wished I could tell her: Don’t worry, I get it, I’m going to be a mom, too!
Driving home after these trips, thrown back into the scrum of tailgating, honking, and windows rolling down for a flip of the featherless bird, I couldn’t help appreciating the animals’ gentler methods of sharing a lane.
The most hostile river dwellers we encountered were plants. The threat of invasive strains taking over the waterways became tangible as we ventured into narrow stretches choked with watermilfoil — bright green furry filaments waving in the current, tails of a submerged horde. Those tendrils threatened to rip the paddles from our hands; they can also crowd out native plants, decrease oxygen in the water, and reduce fish populations.
We experienced another topic of aquatic controversy firsthand: the 19 dams that control the flow of the Charles. There is a movement to remove as many of them as practical to let the river run more naturally. For kayakers, a dam means getting out, carrying the boat around the structure, and relaunching below. Dams present challenges for fish, too, while promoting invasive species and toxic algae blooms.
Damn, another beaver dam
Rainy weekends pushed our project further into the summer — and my pregnancy — than we had intended. Getting in and out of the water to carry our kayaks around dams became harder. We reworked our plan, lengthened our routes, and added weeknight outings to beat my baby’s deadline.
The first few miles are for Charles completists only, and in June I learned why: The stretch from the demolished Caryville Dam in Bellingham to Bresnahan’s Landing in Medway was a beast from the beginning. I had to get out of my boat and wade through shallow water to guide the kayak beneath the old infrastructure, ducking under a rusty beam that still hung a few feet above the river. We went over rapids that would have kept us from turning back even if we wanted to, because the current was so strong.
When we hit the first beaver dam, we realized we had a problem: Vegetation along the banks was too thick to portage around. We had to push the kayaks over the wall of sticks and branches and climb over to catch the boats.
Just when we thought we were over the hurdle, another appeared. And another, until we lost count. If we had known what lay ahead, we never would have taken on that segment, but we were past the point of return: The only way out was through.
A bend in the river
We saved an easy stretch for last: the part of the river that divides Dover from its northern neighbor, Needham. By then, early July, I was nearly eight months pregnant. I breathed a sigh of relief when I managed to wedge myself into the boat.
Our kayaks approached the defunct Bay Colony Rail Trail bridge that crosses the Charles between Dover and Needham, where two teenage boys had made it past the metal fence intended to block the passageway. “Watch this!” one boy shouted down to us, and dove into the water. He swam back to shore, ran up the hill and across the bridge, and jumped again. We paddled on. Ten feet ahead of us, a snake glided across the surface of the water from one bank to the other. It was like the river had taken animal form. The Charles accommodates so many different kinds of life and brings them into harmony.
We finished the river that day, ending at the Cochrane Dam. One month later, I gave birth to a baby boy. We drove him home from the hospital on the Riverway, a road that tracks the Muddy River. It felt auspicious.
Now my son is 8 months old, winter has come and gone, and our family is out of hibernation. Driving down 95 the other day, I caught sight of the Charles below the road. Sunlight flashed across the surface, and the car flew past the river’s bend. I’m ready to catch up with my old friend Charles again. I’ve been checking for dam removal updates. I want to see the status of invasive plants for myself. It takes work to get a change of perspective away from the paved-over paths I usually travel. The river’s long and winding flow forms a counterpoint to my habitual land-borne routes. It reminds me that a fresh perspective is never too far away.

Private Event aboard the Lexington
We held an event aboard the Lexington for school and it could not have been better. Correspondance ahead of time was prompt and efficient and Melissa and Amanda were incredible to work with and made everything super easy. The cruise provided an enjoyable night out for my class without breaking the bank and we could not recommend Charles Riverboat company highly enough!
Hi Joseph, Thank you so much for choosing to host your event with us! It was a pleasure having you and your classmates on board and we are so happy everyone had a nice time! We are thrilled you found the planning process to be enjoyable and we look forward to having you back onboard again soon!
The 90 minutes went by too fast! Our narrator was so knowledgeable and every crew member helpful and friendly. We went through the locks, heard history about the skyline, and learned about types of architecture past and current. A wonderful and beautiful trip enhanced by learning something. A highlight of our trip to Boston!
Hi Mike, Thank you so much for taking the time to review us! We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about the beautiful city of Boston! We look forward to having you back on your next trip to Boston!
We didn’t realize this place is in a mall. We parked in the parking garage and had to find the food court because the booth is outside the food court doors. You need to allow plenty of time, traffic is terrible in Cambridge. We booked the first tour of the day and were the only ones on the tour. It was nice because we had a clear view from the bow, and enjoyed the breeze as we went. I could have spent another thirty minutes on the boat. We saw water fowl that caught a fish, and birds that took off as we approached on the water. Our tour guide Megan was informative and friendly, even the captain Nate pointed out sights. There is a bar with drinks available for fee also some snacks.
Hi Jenny, Thank you for your kind words! We are so glad you had a nice time. Thank you for cruising with us.
There were 2 choices, an architecture tour or a Charles River tour. I wanted to go up the river, but the architecture tour sounded good so we did that. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and it was very good. I did not understand that we had gone into the ocean as there was never a view of the wide open ocean, what a busy body of water that is. Since my son has relocated to Cambridge, I will return and do the Charles Rive4 ride the next time.
Hi Pam, Thank you for taking the time to review us! We look forward to having you back on board soon!
We held a private event aboard the Lexington boat before our wedding and it was truly wonderful. The staff ahead of time were very accommodating in helping me design and plan the whole thing. There were a number of menus options to choose from, and the food was delicious - especially dessert! The crew was a well oiled machine, and everything was super smooth. Guests loved it!
Kat, Thank you so much for cruising with us! We are so happy everyone had a nice time! We look forward to working with you again soon.
We had a Groupon and there were five of us, including my dad, husband, and kids. They have wine, hard seltzer, beer, soda, and snacks on board. The commentary was interesting and they were personable and friendly. The boat leaves from outside the food court at the Galleria Mall.
Johannah, Thank you so much for taking the time to review us. We truly appreciate your kind words & hope to see you again soon.

RiverDogs Experience Bad Case of Déjà vu in Friday Loss to Wood Ducks
Charleston, SC - For the second straight night, the Charleston RiverDogs could not hold a 4-0 lead over the Down East Wood Ducks, falling 6-4 on Saturday at Joseph. P. Riley, Jr. Park. 5,382 fans fought off a lengthy rain delay to watch the RiverDogs surrender the final six runs of the contest. Down East has guaranteed themselves of at least a series split.
The RiverDogs (18-24) burst out of the gates for a second straight night, scoring four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Blake Robertson crushed a first pitch home run to start the inning against Ryan Larsen. The blast was the first baseman’s third in the last week. Raudelis Martinez followed with a booming double to the gap. He moved to third on a wild pitch and was joined on base with a walk from Noah Myers. Odalys Peguero made it 2-0 with an RBI single in the next at-bat and Adrian Santana doubled the lead again with a two-run single. After the early onslaught, the Dogs went five innings without a hit and never scored again.
The bullpen work of the Wood Ducks (23-19) allowed their offense time to get going. Arturo Disla put them on the board with a monster solo home run to left in the fourth. Consecutive errors by Santana at short in the next frame, allowed Down East to close within two.
The decisive inning was the top of the fifth. With Engert Garcia beginning his third inning of work, Disla reached on an infield single to third. A fielder’s choice groundball to second by Julian Brock was good for the second out of the inning. From there the frame deteriorated quickly. Garcia walked Marcos Torres and Wady Mendez followed with an RBI double to make it 4-3. A wild pitch tied the game at four, before Chandler Pollard put Down East in front 5-4 with an RBI single. Marco Soto followed with another single to right field and, when the ball rolled under Cristopher Barete’s glove in right field, another run scored.
In their final at-bat, the RiverDogs put the tying run in scoring position with two walks and a sacrifice bunt. However, Luke Savage struck out Bryan Broecker and retired Barete with a shallow fly ball to left field to end the game.
Down East collected 10 hits in the win, with seven coming from the combination of Mendez and Disla. Mendez was 4-4 and Disla 3-4 with a home run. The RiverDogs mustered only five hits, two of them from Santana.
Garcia took the loss after giving up six runs, four earned, in 2.2 innings. Chandler Murphy was solid again in his first start in two weeks, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings. Will Stevens pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a run and Seth Chavez turned in a scoreless top of the ninth.
Ballpark Fun
The National Anthem Friday night was performed by Creighton Barrett, the drummer from Band of Horses, a Charleston-based rock band. The band has partnered with Official League to release a limited-edition line of apparel called Band of Horses x Charleston RiverDogs.
The RiverDogs will celebrate Halloween with special spooky jerseys on Saturday night. The Joe will take on the aura of a haunted house for the fifth game of the series between the RiverDogs and Wood Ducks. The pitching match-up features LHP Drew Dowd (0-1, 3.09) for the RiverDogs and RHP Alejandro Rosario (0-2, 2.21) of the Wood Ducks. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

“Dear Angela, Daniel and everyone there – thank you!
I’ve delved into the tutorials and I’m simply amazed at how easy it is to manage our site, once I work through them and get past the “wow – can I really do this?” reaction.
So far, the reactions are wonderful. Now the big task – getting more people to go to our website!
I feel blessed that I found you in my search. I am grateful!”

Red Lobster considered filing for bankruptcy in April
The seafood chain considered filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month in an effort to restructure its debt, according to Bloomberg .
The company had been getting advice from law firm King & Spalding as it looked to shed some long-term contracts and renegotiate leases, Bloomberg reported, noting that Red Lobster's cash flows had been weighed down by leases and labor costs, among other issues.
Red Lobster suffered big losses with 'Ultimate Endless Shrimp' promotion
In 2023, the seafood chain's " Ultimate Endless Shrimp " deal became more popular than expected, inadvertently becoming a key factor in a $11 million loss in the third quarter.
The limited-time promotional deal, in which guests picked two types of shrimp to enjoy nonstop for $20, landed a permanent spot on Red Lobster menus in June. Red Lobster's parent company, Thai Union Group, said in November 2023 that the chain was headed toward a $20 million loss for 2023. Now the endless shrimp deal costs $25.
Thai Union Group CFO Ludovic Regis Henri Garnier said in an earnings report call that the company was aware the initial price for the endless-shrimp deal was cheap. The offer was intended to draw customers into restaurants, but orders exceeded expectations, he said.
"We wanted to boost our traffic, and it didn't work," Garnier told investors in November 2023, according to Restaurant Business Magazine . "We want to keep it on the menu. And of course we need to be much more careful regarding what are the entry points and what is the price point we are offering for this promotion."
