Southport Yacht Club

Southport Yacht Club

The Spit is generally known for its more up-market venues (Palazzo Versace, anyone?), but families can enjoy the luxury lifestyle and views on a budget with a visit to the Southport Yacht Club. Family friendly dining with a kids gated playground? Let’s go!

The club’s Waterfront Restaurant serves up picture perfect views alongside a delicious buffet breakfast every Saturday and Sunday (7.30am – 10am), making it the perfect start to your weekend beach trip! Enjoy eggs benedict, pastries, pancakes, bacon, fruit platters, cereals and yoghurts while you look out at the sailing boats and luxury yachts. What I loved the most was the positioning of the restaurant means you don’t even get a glimmer of a glare off the water, and it was so relaxing to sit and watch the boats (and seagulls) pass by.

If breakfast isn’t your thing, the Waterfront Restaurant also serves lunch and dinner, 7 days a week! Gold Coasters are able to dine from the alacarte menu up to three times a year before requiring membership to the yacht club. Not up for a meal, but fancy an afternoon drink? Live Entertainment is available both Friday nights at the 4Shore Bar on the Quarter Deck and Sunday afternoons at Waterfront restauarnt.

The best part about dining at the Southport Yacht Club, is how kid friendly they are! There is a large sized gated playground only metres away from the dining area, kitted out with a boat so kids can pretend they’re sailing their own yacht across the Broadwater. Let them burn off some of that energy on the playground without worrying they’ll burn in the Queensland sun – there’s a huge shad sail over everything to help keep them cool. The restaurant also provides kids meals (also known as Cadets meals), and on Mondays and Tuesdays kids eat for just $5!

Gold Coast Pubs With Playgrounds

As a parent, I know the struggle when you take your kids out for a family day and inevitably dine out. Since kids are typically chaotic, especially once boredom strikes them, you sometimes prefer to stay home. But that’s not necessary anymore! I have searched the entire Gold Coast for family-friendly places like the Gold Coast pubs with playgrounds to create a list of where you can bring your kids.

The Gold Coast pubs with playgrounds include Southport Sharks, Advancetown Tavern, The Club, Southport Yacht Club, Burleigh Town Hotel, The Wallaby, Dublin Docks Tavern, Lonestar Tavern, and Coomera Lodge Hotel. Other pubs with playgrounds on the Gold Coast are CSI Club Southport, The Wattle Hotel, Dog and Parrot Tavern, Benowa Tavern, Norfolk Tavern, Oxenford Tavern, and Mermaid Beach Surf Club.

Southport Sharks

The Gold Coast is home to several clubs with plenty of things to keep your kids entertained while you enjoy your meal. One is the Southport Sharks , located at Corner Olsen and Musgrave Avenue, Southport, Queensland.

This place is only five minutes away from the stunning Gold Coast. Its opening hours are from 7:30 am to 4 am on Mondays to Fridays and 8 am to 4 am on Saturdays and Sundays.

Southport Sharks club is also among the drinking and dining venues on the Gold Coast with indoor playgrounds. The kids can enjoy the fun for a small fee, but there are many things to do in one of the largest indoor play areas on the Coast. Aside from the playground, this place has a 120-room hotel, two restaurant event centres, six bars, AFL-grade ovals, and more. If you’re like me, you’ll love having a fling on the pokies, but remember to only gamble with how much money you can afford to lose.

Advancetown Tavern

Advancetown Tavern is another place to visit if you want to have fun with your kids and enjoy good food. It is located at 402 Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, Advancetown, Gold Coast, Queensland.

This pub sets up a jumping castle for little tackers to play in on the huge grassed area on Sundays, depending on the weather. During summer, the kids are allowed to play Marco polo in the swimming pool. You can also enjoy fire-side dining during winter to get rid of the chill.

The Club is another Gold Coast venue with a playground where you can enjoy dining with your kids. This large establishment serves as the Gold Coast Titans’ official club and provides more than just a simple dish. Enjoy your holiday with a round of golf, swing suite at TopGolf, or mini golf, then have lunch at The Backyard. The Backyard offers outdoor dining where parents may observe their children playing in the air-conditioned arcade or bouncing on the jumping castle.

Families can also use The Pavilions, a charming indoor/outdoor dining space with a beautiful glimpse of The Backyard. Check out their $5 kids meal every Friday after 5 pm and look for other deals they offer on their website at https://www.theclubparkwood.com.au/ .

Southport Yacht Club

Nothing is better than daydreaming about living aboard a superyacht at the Southport Yacht Club. This place offers Broadwater vistas and a luxurious experience at an affordable price. The shaded, fenced playground is a fun place for kids to run around while you relax and sip wine while taking in the scenery.

Aside from kids’ entertainment, Southport Yacht Club also offers live music entertainment every Friday and Saturday. While listening to the music, enjoy the stunning views of the waterfront 4Shore Bar. Southport Yacht Club is located at 1 Macarthur Parade, Main Beach. Learn how to become a member by visiting their website today.

Burleigh Town Hotel

If you’re looking for a pub in Burleigh Heads, with playgrounds, Burleigh Town Hotel is the place to go. Previously known as Burleigh Town Tavern, this local favourite in the South has a sizable covered outdoor space where families may dine while taking in the view of the expansive playground.

Additionally, they hold regular colouring events with fantastic rewards. Visit “Family Sundays.” It includes free face painting and a jumping castle. Regular kids’ discos with prizes and dress-up themes are also available. Burleigh Town Tavern will allow you to enjoy socializing and dining while the kids are all well-occupied.

The Wallaby

The Wallaby Hotel is a recently revamped food spot at Mudgeeraba. It was once among the Gold Coast’s oldest classic pubs and retained that vibe. Parents can sit on the peaceful, calming open-air deck while they watch their kids have the best time of their lives in the huge, fenced, playground provided for them. The parents can be at ease knowing that their child is safe inside the fence while they run around and explore with the other children.

This best playground on the Gold Coast pays homage to the heritage of Mudgeeraba and features a climbing area, train, and slide. Kids and parents will enjoy this place for many hours.

Dublin Docks Tavern

Dublin Docks is located next to Harbour Town Outlet Shopping in Biggera Waters. It is a cozy little tavern with canal views. As the kids play on the indoor playground with a cubby house and slide, adults may relax on their outside deck or draw up a comfortable booth in the air conditioning.

Dublin Docks Tavern also has a roomy Family Bistro, an excellent spot to unwind and enjoy a meal with friends and family.

They provide great value meals for the entire family. This allows parents to spend time with their children while knowing that when they begin to play, there is a lot of fun waiting in our indoor play. The Dublin Docks Tavern’s Family Bistro opens its doors at 11:30 am daily for lunch and 5:30 pm for dinner. You can book a table ahead through this site https://www.dublindockstavern.com.au/book-a-table .

Lonestar Tavern

This long-standing family favourite is sure to please. Lonestar Tavern has a comfortable steakhouse restaurant that appeals to parents, and the indoor and outdoor playground will delight children. There really are regular sporting events on the huge screens, live performances, and even children’s party packages.

Lonestar Tavern is located at Mermaid Waters. It has a good reputation on the Gold Coast as a family-friendly pub because of its excellent entertainment and great dining. They also have a well-equipped Sports bar with TAB facilities, allowing people to unwind and chill.

Coomera Lodge Hotel

Coomera Lodge Hotel is a family-friendly pub on the Gold Coast with a playground. It has an outside beer garden that provides river vistas for lunch or dinner, with a spacious area with grass for the kids to run around. Aside from that, this place also has an outdoor deck overlooking the playground. This local favourite offers a touch of country charm that families can’t resist. Visit this pub at 160 Maudsland Road, Oxenford.

CSI Club Southport

Formerly, the Southport Workers Community Club, CSI Club Southport, has made significant renovations that don’t leave families behind. The Kidz Zone features a massive jungle gym where youngsters may slide and climb as much as they want. In the Laneway Restaurant, parents can enjoy the comfort of outdoor or indoor dining along with the best drinks and foods the restaurant has. CSI Club Southport offers free quality live entertainment from various talented artists.

This place is open from 10 am to 4 am every day.

The Wattle Hotel

The Wattle Hotel is the place to go if you’re searching for a pub with a fantastic indoor playground on the Gold Coast. The Wattle Hotel’s kid-friendly kid’s room is soundproof and contains seating for families. It was recently remodelled so that you can look forward to excellent-looking rooms.

Whether you are a member or not affects how much the menu costs at The Wattle Hotel. Meal discounts are available to members, and this place has an extensive cuisine offering gluten-free and vegan alternatives. Chicken nuggets, cheeseburgers, fish and chips, and grilled sausage with mash are among the kid-friendly options.

Dog and Parrot Tavern

Another pub with a playground on the Gold Coast is Dog and Parrot Tavern . Their playground also has shade sails that will protect your kids against the sun.

A kid’s menu with the typical Aussie pub fare for young diners is available on the Family Bistro menu, along with a poke bowl option. All children’s meals include a paddle pop.

Benowa Tavern

The playground and game room at Benowa Tavern will keep kids entertained for hours. The Family Bistro of this pub is typically open for lunch and dinner every day of the week.

Whether searching for a quick meal during your lunch break or a leisurely meal to experience with family and friends in the evening, this place has you covered. Their menu features a variety of delicious pub classics and some modern twists on old favourites. The kid’s menu has chicken tenders, pasta, sliders, fish and chips, and pizza.

Norfolk Tavern

Norfolk Tavern is a wonderful family-friendly restaurant on the Goldie, ideal for children of all ages, with a games room inside and a playground outside. This place is open every day, starting from lunch to dinner. A staple in every kid’s menu is a drink, chops, and dessert every meal. At Northfolk Tavern , the main menu includes steaks, pizzas, pub favourites, and salads.

Oxenford Tavern

Oxenford Tavern has a playroom for kids that includes PlayStations, an indoor playground, and other games. The playroom also has a TV with kids’ movies playing.

Oxenford Tavern’s Family Bistro opens its doors daily for lunch and dinner. You can enjoy bistro favourites such as gourmet burgers, salads, pasta and pizzas at lunch. For dinner, this place offers a selection of delicious entrees perfect for sharing. All kid’s meals in this pub include a drink and dessert so the whole family can enjoy a meal out.

Mermaid Beach Surf Club

Kids can eat for free on Monday nights at Mermaid Beach Surf Club when an adult meal is purchased. In addition, there is a kid’s room where they can play, making this restaurant family-friendly.

The Mermaid Beach Surf Club is perfect for a fun day out with the kids! They have an indoor playground, games to keep the little ones entertained, and a TV where they can watch their favourite cartoons. You may even enjoy a meal or a refreshing drink while they play.

You can drop by Mermaid Beach Surf Club for lunch and dinner daily. They also serve breakfast during the weekends.

Kids Will Surely Love These Pubs!

Dining out doesn’t need to be boring for kids. The Gold Coast houses many pubs with playgrounds where you can eat and drink while watching your kids burn their energy in the playgrounds.

Southport Yacht Club

Ratings and reviews, location and contact.

Just back from a few days on the Gold Coast and after having driven past the SYC numerous times we decided to book for dinner and we were certainly not disappointed. The setting is overlooking the harbour and with the open veranda type setting it... was a nice spot. Wife had steak and I had the swordfish and both were perfectly cooked especially the steak which is not as common as it could. Service is mostly ok with the young team members all seemingly keep to learn from a few experienced colleagues. SYC is not a high class establishment but if you are looking for pleasant meal is nice surrounds you won’t go wrong. More

Service was great- the 3 stars is for the service. Food was ok, but getting a bit pricey for what is essentially upscale pub food. What ruined the night for us was the very loud birthday function next to the restaurant. You cannot run a... function like that and pretend that the restaurant is not going to be affected. It is one or the other and it is greedy to do both. There are many other places that charge the same $$$ without the noise, which is a pity because the views are wonderful. More

Had lunch there with a friend last Sunday whilst I was on the GC...atmosphere is wonderful food was very disappointing and expensive..staff were friendly. ..what ever you do don't have the seafood platter it was $100 and nothing like the platters I have had elsewhere... . cold seafood was soggy and not fresh and cooked seafood tasted like it was cooked in old oil..drinks were good. More

Love the location, water views and the service very friendly. Unfortunately the food was very disappointing ! Lamb salad with pumpkin and Persian feta. It consisted of 4 pieces of left over dry roast lamb, possibly from the day before, 6 small cubes of pumpkin... and 1/2 teaspoon of crumbled feta, mixed lettuce with no dressing. The chef should be embarrassed serving this to customers. Although I’m guessing the person serving these dishes it a cook not a Chef. My husband had the fish and was also not happy. Will be back for drinks & for the views but not the food. We were advised by friends not to go because the food was not up to restaurant standards, we should have listened to them. More

Each year a group of friends gather for a reunion at the Yacht Club. This is the Firth year we have gathered for this event. Unfortunately due to our troubled times our numbers this year were reduced. Each year we have been hesitant in returning... because our experience has been so bad. This year was a repeat of the past, a grossly overpriced menu, expensive beverages and subservient attitude of the “Maître de”. Since we were last there, the place has been redecorated with nice plastic furniture. Unfortunately the attitude of the Maître de hasn’t change with his abrupt and unfriendly attitude. Because of the ridiculous high prices for a club we opted for the daily special (Tuesday) Schnitzel Parmigiana (same special as last year) $15.00 and Seafood Chowder $18.00. The Schnitzel was overfried, fat laden refried chips and a packet salad. To be totally honest the Chowder looked like vomit with corn kernels, frozen prawns and dehydrated mussels in a non descript sauce. The hi light being three slices of Turkish bread. Our friends seemed relatively happy with their meals however were quite distressed at the ridiculous prices of desserts. We’ll definitely going to our local pub next year. So looking forward to service with a smile rather than the scowl of the Maître de!! More

A group of us went to the Southport yacht club for New Years Eve 2019. We found it to be good value, well organised with friendly, helpful staff who worked hard to make sure everyone had a good night. The seafood buffet was lovely, plenty... of food, quickly replenished, fresh and tasty. Dessert was lovely, and drinks were reasonably priced. It was a lovely evening sitting outside on the water and we had great views of the fireworks going off around the Gold Coast. The band playing ABBA and Bee Gees was good, although the small dance floor soon got packed. Thank you all for a memorable evening More

With a warm welcome all I needed was to show my drivers licence to enter this beautifully appointed and positioned club. With a view of countless millions of dollars worth of water craft the club's atmosphere is delightful to say the least. We had lunch... there on Sunday and the meal was absolutely sumptuous! The lamb rump consisted of five half inch thick slices on a bed of chats and baby truss tomatoes... wonderfull! And the pork cutlet was huge and accompanied by chats, pumpkin puree and roast apple... spectacular. All this teamed up with the delightful attention of Robert, our server, who went out of his way to make us feel welcome, special and important. This is an elegant, stylish venue that I recommend to anyone finding themselves in the area. More

Beautiful view but worst experience of canapés we have ever had. Canapés are supposed to be delicious snacks with oysters or salmon or some such delicacy but we were served with dry croquettes filled with plain cooked macaroni not even moistened by cheese sauce and... a shallow bread case containing two small slices of red capsicum which was topped with an equally small slice of dry corned beef. We felt very sorry for our hosts who paid good money to have this disgustingly unpalatable food served. More

We are sorry to hear that you had your experience at our Club was not positive. We appreciate your time and your feedback has been passed to the appropriate department. Thank you and we do hope you visit us again and give us another chance.... More

First time - service good and friendly staff - food very good Seafood chowder for entree will fill you up and the oysters fresh and plump. The linguine and pork chop for mains very good. Definitely going back

While it is a Club, one would expect more than very basic meals. Why do chefs insist on leaving prawn tails on when serving them tossed in a pasta dish and not providing a plate or bowl for the tails? Vegetarian is more than a... can of chic peas emptied into a curry sauce. And canned pineapple with two ultra thin slivers of strawberry just don't make the cut next to a pannacotta. More

Was recommended to us. Very disappointing! Sat on deck area which turned out to be so noisy you couldn't hear the person next to you. Also had a wedding reception going on behind us so amp up the noise factor x 3. The food was... very average, 1 meal out of 6 was passable. Forget it if you have any dietary requirements, nothing on the menu for vegetarians or gluten free. More

Service is always good but the food gets worse as time goes on. This place went from great Restaurant quality food at a great price to Pub/Club quality food well overpriced. A example of poor management with no skills in this field. Shame to see... such a great location go to waste. More

We had dinner here last night and we’re so impressed with your lovely staff. Everyone we dealt with were happy and friendly. Our meals, two steak sandwiches, a lamb rump and a chicken with risotto were all perfect and served piping hot. We would recommend... to all! More

Hi There! Thank you for leaving us such a great review & noticing what a great team we have working for us here! We are pleased to hear you love our recently refurbished Club. Hope to see you back again soon!

Lovely location overlooking the Marina and pleasant waitstaff but forget the food. Take your own.The grilled Barramundi was tasteless and soft, looked boiled.Moreton Bay bug pasta too was over cooked,Salt & Pepper Calamari was edible and the kids steak was like shoe leather, over cooked.Portions were quite... small but not the prices. How does an establishment that serves such below par food survive. More

Sad to see a great venue wasted by over priced and very average quality meals. Eaten there many times over the years but has been in a slow decline. They seem to be more worried about office staff than a good quality Chef. If you... mention anytime about a bad meal on their facebook page they block you from commenting. In fact the Manager actually threatened to bar me from the club for commenting about a Mothers Day fiasco there, which I posted. So much competition around the area. I suggest other venues More

The Southport Junior Yacht Club Sailing Foundation uses the following sailboats in its sailing classes:

Turnabouts:  A safe, stable trainer with a single mainsail and a small spinnaker.  Room for several beginners and an instructor make this an ideal entry level boat.  The Turnabouts are privately owned and shared with the program.

Optimist Dinghies (Opti's) :  A single-handed advanced dinghy for younger racers.  The Foundation owns a few Opti's; most Opti sailors provide their own.

420's:  The universal US sailing double-handed training boat used by teenage and collegiate sailors.  The 420 is used in our Advanced Class. The Foundation owns fifteen 420's.

                                                            420 Usage Policy

J/80:   The J/80 is a sprit-rigged keelboat raced on the Boothbay peninsula. The J/80 introduces advanced program sailors to keelboat handling and racing, including related topics of crew coordination and additional aspects of seamanship.
