The ‘Tropical Island Paradise’ superyacht is a 90m motor yacht design which is the second proposal by Yacht Island Design, following on from their 115m SWATH Streets of Monaco superyacht design . The 90m Tropical Island Paradise design has a theme that is centred around a secluded island paradise, with elements inspired by the islands of the Caribbean , Indian Ocean and Polynesia .

The Tropical Island Paradise motor yacht design has an overall length of 90m (295ft), with a beam of 33m (108ft), a draft of 8m (26ft. The super yacht is designed to accommodate 10 charter guests. The hull will be constructed of steel with the super structure a mixture of aluminium and FRP. The Tropical Island Paradise vessel will be able to attain a maximum speed of 15 knots propelled by a diesel electrical power plant.

The exterior of the Tropical Island Paradise yacht was designed to give the impression of waves breaking around a volcanic island, whilst maintaining the look of a contemporary yacht design.

The main exterior deck is a private beach “cove” with a voluminous ocean view swimming pool located forward that is fed by a stream emanating from a cascading waterfall on the volcano further aft. A number of private cabanas nestled between palm trees line the edge of the large pool providing a relaxing outlook over the pool and ocean beyond. Behind these cabanas there is a bar area, communal seating area and an area for al fresco dining. The aft deck of the superyacht is a dedicated helicopter landing platform.

A distinctive feature of this Tropical Island Paradise megayacht is the deployable floating beach islands, giving a sea level platform from which to enjoy water activities, sunbathing or relaxing in one of the floating cabanas.

The super yacht will be able to accommodate up to 10 charter guests.  The themed yacht Tropical Island Paradise features an owner’s suite located inside the volcano and spread over two decks. Its living room balcony affords views out over the front of the yacht from behind the waterfall. Located behind the owners bedroom is the owner’s private spa and balcony.

The remaining cabins include four VIP suites featuring private balconies and direct access up into the main deck cabanas.

A full range of entertainment options is also catered for onboard with a cinema, library, games room and gym. A fully equipped spa and a multitude of lounges each offering their own unique ambiance provides the ideal escape you would expect from a ‘Tropical Island Paradise’.

The superyacht design Tropical Island Paradise would make an excellent charter yacht as you would not have to travel long distances to reach Tropical Island Paradises as you would already be on one.

This $8 Billion Turtle-Shaped Yacht Is Not a Joke

By Katherine McLaughlin

Rendering of a turtleshaped yacht

Among many things that weren’t on our Bingo cards for 2022, a giant turtle-shaped yacht—which is also being described as a floating city —is certainly at the top of the list. And yet, here we are. As CNN reported, an Italian design firm, Lazzarini Design Studio , has drafted plans for a massive boat shaped like an oversized tortoise with outstretched flippers. The vessel is so big that it’s not even being called a superyacht , but rather designers have described it as a terayacht. As such, it was given an appropriately big name, Pangeos , a nod to Pangea, the ancient supercontinent that once incorporated almost all of Earth’s landmasses. According to Lazzarini, the ship will be big enough to hold various hotels, apartments, condos, shopping centers, parks, and other amenities for up to 60,000 guests. The yacht will even have ship and aircraft ports so guests can visit when Pangeos isn’t docked near land. Which is helpful since, as of now, the company doesn’t foresee any strict itinerary, but rather expects the turtle to simply coast around the world.

Aerial image of a turleshaped yacht

Many of the amenities and homes are designed around a central town square.

Extending 1,800 feet in length and measuring 2,000 feet at its widest point, the boat is poised to be the largest floating structure ever built. That is, of course, if it does get built, which is a whole other obstacle in and of itself. As the Pangeos website explains, “the terayacht needs a terashipyard,” which doesn’t currently exist. The project requires a yard that is about 200 miles wide and 180 miles long, which also means dredging about 0.4 square miles of the sea with a circular dam. Once the yacht is constructed, the dam can open, flooding the area and essentially launching the vessel. Lazzarini has currently suggested the coast of Saudi Arabia as the ideal location for construction.

Since the goal is usually to minimize drag, boats don’t usually stray from the standard V shape—and are even less frequently formed like marine animals—but Pangeos ’s flippers are more than just a peculiarity. According to the company, the extremities will capture kinetic energy from the waves, which will allow the boat to cruise perpetually without emissions. The rooftop area would also be equipped with solar panels for additional power, should it be necessary; electric engines are also included in the design.

Rendering of a terraced villa around a central square

Within the terraced villa, guests can find houses, buildings, and rooftop terraces, with an upper zone that offers landing of various flying vehicles.

According to the firm, the total cost to build the massive vessel will be nothing short of $8 billion. Construction will also take, at minimum, eight years, and Lazzarini doesn’t expect that this could even begin until 2025. With a hefty price tag and decent wait time, the company has conjured a plan to alleviate both. Designed as an NFT crowdfunding project, the firm is selling “Unreal Estate,” allowing interested buyers to purchase virtual boarding tickets, hotel rooms, and even houses for a metaverse version of the yacht, which the company says will be ready for (virtual) boarding by 2023.

A City at Sea: New Mega-Yacht Concept Resembles the Streets of Monaco

Mega Yacht Concept Resembles the Streets of Monaco

A sovereign city-state located in the French Riviera, Monaco is known as a “billionaire’s playground” for its lavish lifestyle, beautiful architecture, high-end casinos, and love for its famous annual street circuit race, The Monaco Grand Prix. The city also draws thousands of tourists every year, looking to soak in the stunning Mediterranean views and take a yacht ride through one of its many gorgeous harbors. Recently, Yacht Island Design , a boating design firm known for its out-of-this-world yacht concepts, has taken on a new project inspired by this French paradise’s luxury appeal, and there’s no other idea quite like it on the market today.

The Streets of Monaco is a 508-foot-long superyacht concept that has all the amenities of this beloved French province, wrapped into one over-the-top vessel. If built, it can house up to 16 guests and a crew of 70 to ensure a top-notch, individualized service experience for everyone onboard—all while cruising at a comfortable 15 mph at sea. What distinguishes this boat design from the rest, however, isn’t just its Mediterranean-style façade or its impressive size. The Streets of Monaco will deliver just what its name suggests—all the comforts and beauty of Monaco, including an onboard casino, racetrack, and stylized interiors that mimic the city’s iconic surroundings.

High Life on the High Seas

yacht that looks like an island

When it goes into production, this imposing yacht will be from top to bottom an homage to the sumptuous beauty of Monaco. All of the must-see landmarks have been integrated into the boat’s clever design. Rooms inspired by everything from the Hotel de Paris to Lowes Hotel to the Monte Carlo Casino can be found throughout the vessel’s sprawling interior, and the Grand Atrium and Oasis areas offer airy foyer-like spaces that center the vessel’s living space and make passengers feel as though they never left land. The boat’s four decks contain a variety of living areas, each with Monaco-inspired interior designs, with lavish colors and ornate decorations that offer a slice of paradise and amazing ambience while away at sea.

yacht that looks like an island

The deck of the ship is home to several sparkling swimming pools, overlooking the high seas, and of course, what over-the-top yacht wouldn’t come equipped with a helipad and a tennis court? Perhaps The Streets of Monaco’s most innovative concept, though, is its indoor racetrack, which allows up to three passengers to get out their checkered flags, hop in a go-kart, and race each other to their heart’s content. The boat’s exterior also reflects the towering roadways of Monaco, with its white colonnades, soaring arches, and castle-like structures. Inside, passengers can also ascend from the pool area via a marble staircase up to the ship’s spa area, where everyone onboard can melt their cares away with a massage or time in the sauna. This yacht concept—a marvel of modern engineering—is for owners who want to turn heads, and spark imaginations, while sailing into any harbor.

A Billion Dollar Investment

yacht that looks like an island

The Streets of Monaco may look like an extension of this celebrated French province adrift at sea, but its staggering price tag is also reflective of the high-end residents and clientele who live there. At a staggering one billion dollar estimated production cost, this superyacht is only for the most well-to-do investors, who want to spend some serious time away from the cares of land-living and get lost at sea—if only for a while. Purchasing this yacht is like buying a floating estate, however, offering a dance hall, thousands of square feet of cozy living space, and sundecks with private jacuzzis, among other things. For the world’s wealthiest—and luckiest—patrons, this Monaco dreamboat, and all of its stunning features, can become an enviable, larger than life reality.

Private Yacht as Tropical Island Paradise

' src=

So you already have your own private tropical island and giant-sized personal luxury yacht … how do you take things to the next level? Why, you combine the two into a portable slice of floating paradise, of course!

Floating tropical luxury liner

Somewhere between crazy and kitsch, this monster of the sea features its own miniature volcano, flowing waterfall, mountain stream, and valley pool flanked by a series of small bamboo huts and shelter-providing palm trees, all set upon (and concealing) a cruise-ship-style deck.

Floating rear excursion platform

For adults looking for a little more reality on their oceanic voyage, an extendable deck can be deployed belowdecks via a fold-down hatch in the hull; this opening revealing stairs leading to shelters, seating and other detachable smaller sea-faring vessels for short off-ship excursions.

Floating yacht concept sketches

“This view shows the guest cabanas nestled around the pool and highlights the two deck owners’ suites carved out of the front of the volcano and looking out across the bow. The interior features an owners suite located inside the volcano and spread over two decks. The living room balcony affords views out over the front of the yacht from behind the waterfall. Located behind the bedroom is the owners private spa.”

Floating dream boat ideas

But YI Designs is not quite done yet – they propose to build the ultra-rich vessels they have yet to dream of, if they have the wealth to afford them. Concepts include a remake of the streets of Monaco, a Chinese sailing ship and a kind of abstracted Taj Mahal on the water.

Floating tropical island city

Insane? Perhaps, but if there is a market, who knows – these may actually be constructed some day. “‘The Streets of Monaco’ is our first design proposal. The theme is based around the Mediterranean principality with the primary focus being the famous grand prix circuit.”

Floating paradise island concept

“ The idea was to recreate the circuit as a fully functional kart track able to accommodate three karts side by side to allow for plenty of overtaking.  The Monaco story extends beyond this exterior architecture and into the interior spaces giving a seamless transition as guests move between the various areas of the yacht.”

Pictures: Super yacht built to look like Monaco

yacht that looks like an island

Yacht Island Design has envisaged an astounding 155-metre-long floating city that mimics the streets and famous landmarks of the Principality, and even includes a racetrack.

Taking “home away from home” to a whole new level, Island Yacht Design has the plans to construct a mega-yacht using Monaco’s Mediterranean architecture and lifestyle as focal points, incorporating made-to-scale iconic landmarks such as the Casino, the Hôtel de Paris, the Palace, La Rascasse, Port Hercule and the Fairmont.

The massive boat requires a crew of 70 for 16 guests, though there is room for more, and uses a diesel electric propulsion system that runs at a steady 15 knots. The ‘Streets of Monaco’ has four decks – the upper deck has the exterior views of the landmarks and the lower being the interiors.

The master suite is spread out over two decks and is connected by passageways. Moving between them, it looks remarkably like the set up at the Fairmont. The Oasis is the lounge area of the yacht where most people will spend the day. This window-filled, light and airy design is made to look like the gardens outside of Casino Square. The space is dotted with verandas, pools, a gym and sun loungers. A marble staircase in the Oasis takes guests upstairs to the spa. This space includes a hair salon, manicure centre, sauna, steam rooms and a bar.

Guests can choose between relatively modest VIP Suites that are a mere 135 square metres or can opt for the Grand Suites which are a more sizable 356 square metres. The owner’s “apartment” is enormous, coming in at about 1,460 square metres and has all the comforts of home. There is an office, his and hers dressing rooms, a fireplace, a private sundeck with a jacuzzi and swimming pool and a lovely courtyard. A lift is available to take people between the decks.

The pièce de résistance is the replica of a portion of the Grand Prix track. The racetrack is fully functional and can manage up to three karts racing side by side, leaving plenty of room for overtaking.

A sight-seeing submarine is also part of the deal and there is a huge “beach deck” where guests can take out jet skis, kayaks or paddleboards. A full size tennis court is located on the top deck for other sporty endeavours which doubles as a helicopter pad.

So, what does it cost to own a creation like this? The price tag comes in at a cool €1 billion. If you think about it, that’s a pretty good deal for all of that Monaco real estate!

What the US$600M 'world's biggest yacht' will look like inside

yacht that looks like an island

It's set to be one of the largest private residence yachts in the world when it launches in 2024, but what does a luxury apartment on board the 728 foot (221 metres) Somnio actually look like?

Interior renderings of the US$600 million vessel have just been unveiled, offering a glimpse inside what's being described as the world's first "yacht liner."

While all 39 of the floating apartments, which come with a private balcony or terrace, are said to be "fully customizable," some of the options showcased include huge shell-shaped beds, expansive living areas with ocean views, and wall-length mirrors.

FLOATING HOMES

Prices start from around $11 million, with sizes ranging from 1,600 to 6,500 square feet -- the largest condo takes up most of the top deck.

Somnio, which means "to dream '' in Latin, was designed by Winch Design and Tillberg Design of Sweden, and will be built by Norwegian ship designer and builder VARD.

The interior renderings were devised by Winch Design, Tillberg Design of Sweden along with Luttenberger Design.

Those who snap up a condo on "the most exclusive address in the world" will get to work with one of the design teams for up to three months in order to "decide the room configurations and select the materials, furniture, lighting and artwork."

EXCLUSIVE ADDRESS

A gym, a library, inside and outside dining spaces, "distinct" dressing areas and a "vast living room space with 270-degree forward views" are among the options available, although the layout is to be based on the buyer's preferences.

The identity of the owners will be kept secret, but all residents will have access to full concierge services "for both onboard and land-based needs."

"As the only residential superyacht in the world, we are delighted to work with designers that complement our exacting standards," Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, said in a statement.

"Our owners will experience only the best, as is befitting of a yacht of this nature."

SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS

According to its designers, sustainability will be a key focus for Somnio, which is to be constructed with the "latest clean engine technology" along with materials and products to "create environmentally responsible interior design with a reduced impact" where possible.

Among the shared on board amenities onboard available include a 10,000-bottle capacity wine cellar and tasting room along with a lounge located in the ship's bow, a spa, a movie theater, restaurants and a beach club.

Residents will be charged an annual fee to cover expenses like maintenance and repairs, along with fuel and food.

A spokesperson for the project tells CNN Travel that Somnio has attracted exceptional interest since it was unveiled earlier this year, with some apartments already sold.

At present, The World, which measures 643 feet, is the largest private residential yacht on the globe, with a combination of studios as well as one to three-bedroom apartments on board.

Everything you need to know before purchasing a private island

Related articles.

With the private island property market booming, we find out from buyers and industry experts what you need to know before purchasing your own private island.

“No man is an island,” wrote poet John Donne in 1624, but fast forward 400 years, add in a global pandemic, and it seems that plenty of men (and women) would like the chance to at least own one. In Q1 2021, superyacht sales totalled more than £1 billion and the private island market was equally hot, as ultra-high-net-worth individuals strived to secure their own isolated idyll.

Edward de Mallet Morgan, a partner of Knight Frank’s Super-Prime Global Residential division, believes there are a number of factors driving the surge in interest. “During the course of the pandemic some people have made a huge amount of money, and this is coupled with the fact that remote working has been properly tried and tested,” he says. “It has proven that people don’t need to be in the office or even the same country as the businesses they own or are shareholders in. The old normal doesn’t exist anymore, and it may never come back.”

A lot of interest has been centred around the Bahamas with the American market looking for easy-access bolt-holes. “The island market is extremely strong right now in the Bahamas,” says John Christie, CEO of HG Christie. “We had many, many calls during the height of the pandemic when everything was really locked down. Everyone was fantasising about [having] their own island.” However, Christie says these dreams have now turned into reality. “All the less expensive islands are getting sold and there is strong interest in big islands as well,” he says. “All kinds of things are going under or on contract now, from the $3 million [£2.1m] to the $65 million range. We are going to be running out of inventory of these kinds of islands in the Bahamas soon.”

The interest isn’t purely based in the Bahamas though, with New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty also seeing strong demand. “I get interest from across the board from high-net-worth individuals and families to those ‘chasing the dream’,” says sales associate Chester Rendell. “I have recently signed up a private island in Fiji, with the purchaser being an American with Hawaiian interests wanting to buy something that would be like what Hawaii was 50 years ago. This sale was actually done unseen.”

Buying an island unseen is a rarity, but owners discovering their private island by superyacht is common. “The private-island mentality fits with the superyacht mentality,” says de Mallet Morgan. “If you look at historic owners of big private islands – people such as Richard Branson, Larry Ellison, Bernard Arnault and the Aga Khan – they are all also superyacht owners . I have an island called Little Pipe Cay on the market in the Exumas at the moment and the last four potential purchasers all visited on 80-metre-plus boats that they either own or were chartering.”

Christie believes that part of the allure is that islands act as status symbols. “It holds a lot of cache if you are talking about going to your island in the Bahamas,” says Christie. “You have your yacht, your private jet and the next thing you need is a private island. The purchaser of an island I just sold had a 33.5-metre yacht and a private jet.”

The appetite and the natural connection between land and sea may be there, but taking the plunge and purchasing tends to require a pull on the heart strings. Chris Bouton, the owner of Westport 112 Indigo , bought 11-hectare Johns Island in Maine in 2015 and remembers the moment he made the decision. “We didn’t really expect to be buying a private island, but when we got there it was just such a magical feeling,” he recalls. “We felt like we had walked into a different world and that was just so enticing that we couldn’t help but do it.”

How do you choose?

Any private island purchase is bound to be led by the heart, but experts warn that there are serious factors that need to be considered. “There are a lot of islands out there,” says de Mallet Morgan. “Different shapes and sizes, freehold and leasehold, clear titles and unclear titles, accessible and in the middle of nowhere. You need to think about what you are hoping to get from it.”

For de Mallet Morgan, infrastructure, accessibility and size are three of the most important considerations. “I think there is probably a sweet spot for private-use islands from a few acres up to 70 acres [30 hectares]. Anything over 100 acres starts to become a huge consideration. If you have got a 500-acre island you might be having a picnic with your family on one side and there could be drug trafficking happening on the other. Security is much more complex.”

Since the start of the pandemic there has been a greater interest in islands that already have infrastructure in place. “There’s been much more of a demand for finished islands that people can move right into, or at least have a roof over their head,” says Christie. “Before, people were more into the fantasy of building their dream island, but now they want to move in as opposed to having to wait years to build everything.” De Mallet Morgan agrees that most clients now are looking for instant gratification. “If you buy a bare island then you have got to be happy that it’s going to take you at least five years, if not more, to create your dream home,” he warns.

Ready-made islands may be in demand, but for many the allure of starting with a blank canvas is also appealing. Tim Hartnoll was sailing in the remote Anambas Archipelago in Indonesia when he discovered not one but a cluster of six islands. “Pulau Bawah had always been on the chart during our sailing trips and those familiar with the area had encouraged me to visit, but nothing could have prepared me for what I saw,” he recalls. “Originally, I thought I would build a small outpost to enjoy when I came to visit. But the realities of having electricity, fresh water and some additional niceties took over, and it made more sense to develop Bawah as a resort.”

Opened in 2018, the Bawah Reserve offers 36 suites on its main island, with the neighbouring island of Elang available for private hire . However, its sustainably focused creation has come with its fair share of challenges. “When building it, we struggled with getting everything we needed to the island,” he says. “There was no hardware store to pop to for a few more nails. Fortunately, the craftspeople in Indonesia are incredibly resourceful and skilled and sometimes missing something has led to a more impressive result.”

Mark and Gwenn Snider came across similar obstacles when developing Lovango Cay, which opened this summer as the first luxury resort and beach club in the US Virgin Islands in 30 years. “The biggest challenge is definitely logistics with a capital L, and we encountered everything from the sublime to the ridiculous,” Gwenn says. “For example, we had to import sand from Barbuda to fill in where the beach club was going. The sand sat in St Thomas until about three days before we opened because there wasn’t a boat big enough to bring it to us.”

The difficulties of developing a private island can also extend far beyond just the practicalities of building, as Dan and Christin Olofsson found when they bought Thanda Island off Tanzania’s eastern coast. “The biggest challenge for us has been to reach an agreement with the Tanzanian government, after Thanda Island was declared a protected marine reserve in March 2007,” explains Dan. “No exclusive-use lease had ever been concluded on a protected marine reserve before and the negotiations lasted for years. Eventually, in 2014, we received ministerial permission to bring to life what started as a dream so many years earlier.”

How to operate off-grid

An additional hurdle that developments such as Lovango, Bawah and Thanda face is how to operate off-grid, but this was part of the appeal for Bouton. “I’m passionate about green and clean tech so it felt like an awesome opportunity to build a place that was using all those technologies to operate the island in a fundamentally new way,” he says. “One of the most important things that an island teaches you is that everything needs to be in balance; you’re constantly attempting to get all of your systems to work well together. For example, we put in a reverse osmosis system but that uses a ton of electricity, so then you need to generate more electricity to be capable of handling the water demands. But in a way it’s a wonderful lesson and something I have loved learning.”

There doesn’t seem to be any slowdown in interest on the horizon. “For the foreseeable future we anticipate the market will be pretty strong,” says Christie. “Islands have been a great investment over the years. Sometimes the market slows down a little bit, but I have never known them go down in value.”

Despite their investment potential, those who have been there and done it agree that it needs to be a labour of love rather than an economic decision. “You need to be prepared for setbacks, the kind you will have no frame of reference for,” says Hartnoll. “If you are developing an island from the start, then whatever timeline you have in mind, triple it, along with the budget.”

Bouton’s advice to anyone considering taking the plunge? “Do it: you only live once and if you have the opportunity and the place is magical then it’s worth all the logistics and all the rest of it. It really is a special thing to share with your family and friends.” Perhaps the real beauty of buying a private island is that it means you don’t need to be an island after all.
