  • By Yachting Staff
  • August 4, 2023

Arcadia Yachts A96

Arcadia Yachts in Italy says it’s planning for the premiere of the 95-foot Arcadia A96 at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

The yacht’s concept, exterior styling and engineering are by Arcadia Yachts, with interiors by Igor Lobanov in Barcelona. The layout includes five guest staterooms and quarters for five crew.

Arcadia’s team says the goal with the A96 is to create indoor-outdoor experiences where owners can alternate mingling with other people, as well as having complete privacy.

Propulsion is quad Volvo Penta IPS1200s with joystick maneuverability. CMC Marine electric fin stabilizers are installed for additional guest comfort.

What other models will Arcadia Yachts have at the Cannes Yachting Festival? Expect to see the company’s most popular model, the A85, along with the Sherpa 60 and Sherpa 80.

Boat of the Week: This 96-Foot Arcadia Has More Outdoor Space Than Your Superyacht

Arcadia A96

“We did not want to lose our identity, which is unlike anything else on the market,” he told Robb Report during a tour of the yacht. “The A96 has excellent divisions, large spaces and large volumes, which you won’t find with our competitors.”

The A96 mixes the lines, volume and open-plan layout of Arcadia’s Sherpa series with the speed, joystick maneuverability and service quality of the yard’s A range. The exterior was designed in-house, with interiors penned by Igor Lobanov (this was a first-time collaboration between the yard and designer). The A96’s top end is 24 knots. Besides speed, there’s a whopping 4,300 square feet of usable space, which is 30 percent more than other yachts in its class.

The term “floating resort” or “terrace on the sea” is often used to describe open-plan yacht designs. The Arcadia A96 lives up to those names, largely because of the 96-foot yacht’s 24-foot beam, which stretches even wider when the side platforms are folded down. It’s mated with twin balconies and sliding glass doors on the main deck that leave the aft end of the yacht fully open to the elements. The same design is repeated on the upper deck, with more sliding glass doors on both sides and aft that lead directly to the exterior deck. The low bulwarks and lateral walkways continue a sense of space.

Arcadia A96.

The A96 is also equipped with the latest generation of electrically activated stabilizers to provide stability at anchor yet maintain a low environmental impact. Solar panels on the roof of the yacht generate 2000 kW of energy, which is enough to run the yacht in silent mode for up to nine hours.

For the interior, Lobanov was tasked with furnishing the space with natural and “eco-compatible” materials. He opted for soft, welcoming lines and tactile furnishings, including a sand-patterned bouclé carpet. The interior loose furniture is selected from Italian design houses united by calm colours, natural materials and a glossy finish.

Central to the wellbeing element is the guests’ onboard experience. Two separate stairways are used for owners and crew. Two pantries ease service on multiple decks so there is little overlap but the boat is more efficient. The four guest cabins on the lower deck—one VIP, one double, two twins—enjoy ensuite bathrooms that are positioned to provide a buffer between guests’ beds and the engine rooms.

Arcadia A96 Superyacht.

The large sun deck is where guests gather for large alfresco meals and to watch sports on the supersized television screen. Cream linen curtains allow the breeze in but keep the sun out, while a separate sink and fridge give the owners the freedom to serve themselves should they wish.

Four Volvo Penta engines with IPS 1200 transmissions ensure a long-range, low-emissions comfort, not to mention that top speed of 24 knots and range of 600 nautical miles at 16 knots. At 10 knots, the A96 has a 2,000 nautical-mile range. It joins Arcadia’s A85, A105 and A115 models.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

arcadia yachts

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

arcadia yachts

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Tickets start at $13 (800 rubles) per person.

Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

arcadia yachts

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

arcadia yachts

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

arcadia yachts

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

arcadia yachts

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

arcadia yachts

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Arcadia Magazine Spring 2024: From Glenside to Glaciers: How Arcadia Propelled Me to Antarctica

A kayaker can be seen behind an icy wave; photo taken by Aoife Samuelson '24, in Antarctica

Four years ago I chose Arcadia University because a global experience was a top priority.

It’s a decision for which I will be forever grateful.

My first taste of studying abroad came during my sophomore year in 2021-2022. While I was only in Edinburgh, Scotland, for one week, the trip had a lasting impact. The minute I stepped foot back on campus, I was in the Study Abroad office figuring out how to maximize time abroad while staying on track with my major and minor requirements to graduate on time. The next semester I took a Global Field Study course that took me to Central Europe. I loved my time there. It made me realize how lucky I was to attend a university with such an established program.

My junior year, I studied abroad in Australia for the fall semester. This is when I began solo traveling. Since then, I have been to 39 countries and all seven continents. All of them have been solo trips.

My first solo trip was to Tasmania, and I ended the spring 2023 semester with a trip to South East Asia. Earlier that spring, I was lucky enough to go to Ireland where the majority of my family lives full-time. Being immersed in the Irish educational system was an incredible way to learn about my history exactly where it took place. That semester, I took many weekend trips to mainland Europe when I was not with family. At the end of the semester, I planned an in-depth multi-country solo trip before finally coming home. For that trip, I began in Iceland, spent a week in Greece experiencing life on the islands, went to Egypt for a chance to scuba dive the Red Sea, and finished in Maldives for another dive trip.

Thanks to Arcadia and their support while on their programs abroad, I had the skills to plan, budget, and execute solo travel safely while learning how to navigate things when they did not go as planned, like transportation.

After returning home and working full time for a few weeks, my aunt expressed interest in going on safari – a childhood dream of hers. With my newfound confidence traveling solo and the skills I learned through Arcadia, I was able to plan our trip to make her dream come true. We began in South Africa in summer 2023 before heading up to Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. The week we got home I put my passport down for a bit to come back to Glenside and focus on my senior year. Traveling was never far from my mind, however, and I soon realized I was itching for another adventure.

I began working extra shifts – I work at Access Behavioral Health, Positive Behavioral support, Staples, and as a freelance photographer, student ambassador, alumni ambassador, and student photographer – to save up and started looking to see if I could pull off my dream trip: Antarctica!

Spoiler alert: I did. I was almost positive Antarctica would be financially out of reach, but I was determined to try. I used the tips Arcadia provided for booking semester flights for this trip. This not only saved a bit of money, but also ensured some flexibility in case I was delayed.

I quickly learned when solo traveling to never pay full price for any expeditions – dive or otherwise – because there are always deals if you know where to look. After about a week of extensive searching, I was able to find an expedition that was both in my price range and aligned with my timeframe of winter break 2023. I was lucky enough to spend a few days exploring Buenos Aires and Ushuaia in Argentina before disembarking due to the most cost-effective layover choices. When I boarded the boat that would take me from Argentina to Antarctica, I realized that not only did I pull off my dream trip, but I’d solo traveled to all seven continents within the past two years! I had the trip of a lifetime in Antarctica, full of like-minded new friends, penguins, kayaking, and even camping out on the peninsula for a night.

arcadia yachts

Each day we had four excursions – two zodiac cruises where we took a small boat in groups of eight to cruise around the area and see what we could in the water. We always saw penguins and amazing ice structures. Sometimes, we were lucky enough to find a seal or even a humpback whale!

During our time on land it was all about the penguins… seeing their colonies and studying the way they use “penguin highways,” and their affinity for stealing pebbles from each other’s nests. Each night, a team member would lecture about their animal or topic of expertise. This helped us get an even better understanding and appreciation for what we were experiencing every day. We learned about penguin species, documented differences in local whales over time, and documented glacial movements. I loved every minute of that journey — a journey that would not have been possible without Arcadia.
