Boats and Mo's (Mimosas tehe)! My sister Fran and I dropped anchor right the the pool bar last Saturday. Let's just say those Mimosas had the both of us dragging anchor by the end of the day. Excellent staff service! The chicken was a little dry, but Fran and I were already full from all of the eye candy. I would recommend xoxo Jan

Really awesome spot on the pavilion. Sylvia suggested a raspberry margarita because I like sweeter drinks. It was probably the best margarita I have had in a very long time. She was really nice and wanted to actually have a conversation with me. She made our experience awesome.

Best salad bar in town! Everything you can imagine that should be on a salad bar is here, I loaded my plates with mixed greens, tuna salad, beets, hard boiled egg, garbanzo beans, cucumbers, and many varieties of seeds ( pumpkin, sunflower). Lots of dressings, breads and dried fruits as well. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. The service was excellent (Salem?). Service: 5 stars Food : 5 stars Ambience: 5 stars

Ducked in so my business partner, Marnie, could receive her Golden Mouse Award for Excellence in Social Media Marketing. Excellent service. Beautiful day. We were in the main ballroom for lunch. The food was delicious. The portions were fair. Dessert was awesome. The salad was better than expected. My only complaint, was my main course was cold. I ate it. This was my first time visiting the joint and I loved it. Sat right on the water. Cool lounge. Cabeza OUT!

Amazing Wait, what's more than Amazing? Over the last few years a select group of members recreated LYC. It's fantastic. Congratulations!

Photo of Mariam D.

The exclusive LYC has been serving up great drinks, good food, and memorable times for decades. Located in the Rio Vista neighborhood just north of the 17th Street Causeway, I have been to the LYC on several occasions for lunch, company holiday parties, and friendly get togethers. The catering staff is AMAZING - they will accomodate the most discerning of guests and will go out of their way to ensure that your party is satisfied. I have tried the caprese salad (delicious!) as well as the filet with leeks & demi glaze, served with veggies and potato (also delicious!). The conch chowder is also very very good - try it with a splash of sherry to compliment the flavors of this soup. Overall everything is fresh and tastey, the grounds are well kept and the Club is nicely landscaped & a perfect setting for a casual afternoon on the water or an elegant evening event.

lauderdale yacht club photos

Founded in 1938, Lauderdale Yacht Club has always been a traditional private club run by its Members with the focus of a family friendly environment. We are hidden in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in a peaceful residential neighborhood right off the Intracoastal Waterway.

In 1927, August Burghard, a journalist who would later become a Club Member, wrote an article in the local newspaper pointing to Fort Lauderdale’s unique position as a city of navigable inland waterways, with only the lack of a yacht club to enhance its attraction for visiting yachtsmen and residents alike.  Actions were set in motion and cumulated with a discussion aboard the schooner Abenaki, belonging to the late Harlow N. Davock. That discussion resulted in the organization of the Lauderdale Yacht Club and the Club was founded in June 1938.

It was natural then that such men as Mr. Davock and the late A.H. Brook, both of whom were Members of the New York Yacht Club, should help to plan a club primarily for those people genuinely interested in encouraging the sport of sailing and boating. This stipulation appears in the original charter, which was adopted at the first official meeting of The Lauderdale Yacht Club, June 28, 1938, at the home of C.L. Chancey. The club site was a gift of land donated by Mr. Chancey.

As defined in the charter (Article II), the club’s purpose was … “to promote the science of seamanship and to provide and maintain a clubhouse, piers and anchorage for the recreation of its Members and to make available for the youth of the club the opportunity to learn and practice seamanship and to render benevolent aid to the youth of the community interested in learning seamanship.”

Lauderdale Yacht Club has evolved into a Membership of the most respected families in the community. Many of the political, professional, and social leaders of Fort Lauderdale are among its Membership, which now totals just under 1,000. The club is owned by its Members. We the employees are actually working for them.

Each year the Membership elects a Board of Governors in order to set policy and administer the desires of the Membership. The chain of command is as follows:

COMMODORE

VICE COMMODORE

REAR COMMODORE

BOARD OF GOVERNORS

GENERAL MANAGER

In addition, there are numerous committees, appointed by the Commodore, which run the various activities and assist management in the affairs of LYC. The General Manager oversees the running of Lauderdale Yacht Club and hires Department Heads to supervise the day-to-day operation of the various departments. The Department Heads staff their areas with personnel to get specific jobs done.

The Lauderdale Yacht Club Summer Sailing Program is an exciting chance for new and current young sailors in the Fort Lauderdale community to spend some time on the water while learning about sailing, seamanship and the environment! The Lauderdale Yacht Club Mission Statement includes LYC taking an active role in teaching sailing and seamanship to the community and Summer Camp is that opportunity! Summer Sailing is open to children of both Members and Non-Members alike.

MERCURY MENTORS- Ages 5-7 (Introduction to Sailing, 9 AM – 1 PM)

The Mercury Mentor Program is for beginning sailors ages 5-7 years old who want to get acquainted with the water! Mercury Mentors takes place during the Summer, Fall and Spring programs, so this is a real year-round program. We have a full array of curriculum which starts with water awareness and swim testing, safety and most importantly sailing and fun sailing games! The Mercury Mentor program uses LYC provided 15′ Mercury sailboats that fit multiple young sailors along with an instructor while they sail in the Stranahan River basin right in front of LYC! This is meant to be a stress free environment that helps young sailors feel safe on the water leading into a life of watersport activities.

OPTI LEARN TO SAIL- Ages 8-12 (Learn to Sail in an Optimist, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)

Opti Learn to Sail focuses on basic sailing skills for beginners. New young sailors learn to steer and trim trim sails, parts of sailboats, knots, teamwork, competition, as well as learning about the environment. This class is designed to teach children self-reliance and esteem through sailing and boat care. The curriculum incorporates fun games and activities to introduce sailors to basic seamanship while they sail in front of LYC. This is a lead-in for LYC’s Fall Sailing Program if your sail wants to continue sailing!

420 Learn to Sail – Ages 12-17 (9:00 AM – 4:00 PM )

This learn to sail course is sailed on the 420 Sailboat, which is sailed by two people. Don’t worry, you don’t have to have a partner when you register- we’ll pair you up! The program not only teaches sailing, but how to be a great teammate and partner. This is for sailors who are bigger (125 lbs.+) and are in middle or high school. This is the beginner course for our fall 420 Program!

Lauderdale Yacht Club is located on beautiful Frederick Henry Bay, 20 minutes south east of Hobart.

lauderdale yacht club photos

Lauderdale Yacht club (LYC) was originally founded by a keen group of amateur sailors, regularly sailing out of Frederick Henry Bay.  With no clubhouse or facilities to speak of at the time, the first races eagerly commenced in 1977. After a lot of negotiation with the Clarence City Council (who have been strong supporters the club to this day), it was agreed the site of Roches Beach would be utilised as a suitable location to sail from.

The Club held it's first major regatta in 1981, the Cobra Cataramarn National Titles. With no physical structures to speak of on site at the time, & over 60 competitors having travelled from around Australia, it was decided shortly after the event that a clubhouse was to be constructed (and yes it still stands today!).  Construction of the bespoke facilties commenced in 1981, with the clubhouse itself completed in 1983. Alan Gardner, a founding member of the club, was the Commodore at the time and did much of the engineering and organisation himself. His work has definately stood the test of time!

Since 1981 LYC has played host to many National and State Title events, including Cobra, Moth, Nacra, Paper Tiger, & Formula 18 (F18) National Championships.

The club provides sailing training to youth and adults. For those more experienced sailors keen to test their skills and sailcraft, races are held most Sunday afternoon's in the warmer months.

We have a fleet of Bic O'pen Skiffs, Sabots, Puffin Pacers and Lasers that are sailed on Sunday mornings from late September every year-to-April. More advanced juniors are welcome to participate in advanced training and racing in the afternoons.

The LYC organises racing for 29ers, catamarans, windsurfers, and any off the beach class, that wish to sail with the club.

In the past we have enjoyed sailing with the B14 skiffs, Moths, Sharpies, and a host of other wonderfull machines.

Recently both the Australian Paper Tiger Nationals and the Australian Formula 18 Naitonals were held at the LYC. Both events were a very well-polished and attracted a lot of attention from many local and national sailors.

Aiming to be a friendly and community orientated, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

We are a non-for-profit organisation that rely on hard working volunteers (yes - we are always looking for these), our wonderful members, and support from several fantastic local businesses (refer to Club Sponsors of which we are truely greatful for) to get by.

Lauderdale Yacht Club (LYC) is affiliated with Australian Sailing which allows our members to compete at all levels of the sport.

The top 50 most exclusive yacht clubs in the world honored with platinum status.

Royal Yacht Squadron in England

The rich and famous are not merely looking for the best place to anchor their yachts; they are also seeking out exclusive memberships in stunning destinations, all offering luxury amenities and, of course, bragging rights. These exclusive yachting clubs with often outrageous initiation fees, provide luxurious clubhouses, and provide accommodations for yachties who want to get their land legs. Most of them provide high-end concierge service to its members as well as Michelin-star quality restaurants and more.

Yacht Clubs have been recognized in the Platinum Clubs of America elections for more than 20 years. According to the Platinum Club, “Recognition in the following categories is important in the selection of Platinum status; Tradition, history, and heritage, a respected membership, excellence in amenities, exceptional service, adapting to changing times, and overall experience.

I spoke with the President of Club Leaders Forum, David V. Smith, about the selection, and he says, “we created an alphabetical selection this time as opposed to by rank because we felt that it was challenging to compare a yacht club in Ireland with a yacht club in Singapore, as amenities, location and facilities do vary quite a lot. The yachting and boating world is a different and unique culture, typically a little more relaxed and not as formal as country clubs and golf clubs. However, many of the world’s finest yacht clubs have wonderful history and traditions, with a great sense of camaraderie among their members. Certain yacht clubs were selected by the Panel not necessarily for their facilities and amenities but in their recognition of hosting world class sailing regattas and events.”

Fort Lauderdale Marinas

Introduction to Fort Lauderdale Marinas

Welcome to the dazzling water world of Fort Lauderdale! Known as ‘The Venice of America’, Fort Lauderdale boasts a network of canals and waterways, making it a paradise for boating enthusiasts. The city is home to an array of marinas, each offering unique amenities and services. If you’re someone who enjoys the sea breeze, endless ocean views, and the gentle lapping of waves against a boat hull, you’re in for a treat. In this article, we will be exploring the Fort Lauderdale boating marinas, giving you an insider’s perspective.

The marinas in Fort Lauderdale are versatile and cater to a variety of boating needs. Whether you are a seasoned sailor, a part-time cruiser, or a jet ski enthusiast, you’ll find a marina in this city that’s just right for you. The marinas offer everything from boat storage and maintenance services, to upscale facilities like clubhouses, pools, and restaurants.

A visit to Fort Lauderdale isn’t complete without exploring the marinas. They are a testament to the city’s rich nautical history and culture. The marinas aren’t just a place to dock your boat; they are vibrant communities where you can connect with fellow boating enthusiasts, learn from the experts, and soak in the unique maritime atmosphere.

A Closer Look at Lauderdale Yacht Club

One of the most prestigious marinas in the city is the Lauderdale Yacht Club. Founded in 1938, the Club has a rich history and has been a cornerstone of the Fort Lauderdale boating community for decades. It’s not just a marina; it’s a lifestyle. Offering premium amenities and a community spirit, the Lauderdale Yacht Club is the epitome of luxury and convenience for boating enthusiasts.

What sets the Lauderdale Yacht Club apart from other marinas is its commitment to fostering a sense of community. The Club hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including regattas, social gatherings, and educational programs. These events provide an opportunity for members to connect, share their boating experiences, and learn from each other.

The Lauderdale Yacht Club also offers exclusive facilities for its members. Apart from full-service marina services, the Club boasts a state-of-the-art fitness center, swimming pools, dining establishments, and a stunning clubhouse that overlooks the Fort Lauderdale skyline. Whether you want to engage in recreational activities or unwind after a day of sailing, the Lauderdale Yacht Club has you covered.

Exploring Florida Boating Clubs: Club Lauderdale

Club Lauderdale is another gem in the crown of Fort Lauderdale marinas. It’s a boating club that goes beyond offering a place to dock your boat; it offers an experience. Club Lauderdale is known for its pristine facilities, professional staff, and a welcoming community of boating enthusiasts.

At Club Lauderdale, every member is treated like a VIP. The Club offers a wide range of services including boat cleaning and maintenance, fueling services, and concierge services. The staff at Club Lauderdale is committed to making your boating experience hassle-free and enjoyable.

One of the unique aspects of Club Lauderdale is its commitment to promoting sustainable boating practices. The Club has implemented several green initiatives, such as the use of eco-friendly cleaning products and waste management systems. This commitment to sustainability sets Club Lauderdale apart and makes it a preferred choice for environmentally-conscious boaters.

The Cost of Boat Slip in Fort Lauderdale

One of the key considerations for boat owners is the cost of a boat slip. So, how much does a boat slip cost in Fort Lauderdale? The cost can vary significantly based on the marina, the size of the boat, and the amenities offered. On average, a boat slip in Fort Lauderdale can cost anywhere from $10 to $30 per foot per month.

It’s important to note that the cost of the boat slip is just one component of the overall boating expenses. Additional costs can include maintenance fees, insurance, and membership fees if you choose to join a boating club.

When considering the cost of a boat slip, it’s essential to factor in the value you get in return. For instance, marinas that charge higher fees often offer premium amenities and services, such as 24-hour security, access to club facilities, and professional boat maintenance services.

Understanding High and Dry Storage in Fort Lauderdale

An alternative to boat slips is high and dry storage. Also known as dry stack storage, this type of boat storage involves storing boats in a covered warehouse when they are not in use. Fort Lauderdale high and dry storage facilities offer several benefits, such as protection from the elements and reduced maintenance.

High and dry storage facilities in Fort Lauderdale use a forklift or a mechanical system to transport the boats in and out of the water. This eliminates the need for boat owners to trailer their boats, making the process of getting in and out of the water quicker and easier.

However, high and dry storage may not be suitable for all types of boats. Larger boats, in particular, may not fit in the storage racks. Additionally, the cost of high and dry storage can be higher than traditional boat slips, especially for larger boats.

The Benefits of Boat Storage in Florida

Whether you choose a boat slip or high and dry storage, there are several benefits to boat storage in Florida. The first benefit is protection. Boat storage facilities provide a secure environment for your boat, protecting it from theft, vandalism, and environmental damage.

Another benefit of boat storage in Florida is convenience. Many storage facilities offer additional services such as boat cleaning, maintenance, and repair. This means you can spend more time enjoying your boat and less time worrying about its upkeep.

Lastly, boat storage facilities often offer access to amenities such as clubhouses, swimming pools, and restaurants. These facilities can enhance your boating experience, providing a place to relax and connect with other boating enthusiasts.

How to Choose the Best Marina in Fort Lauderdale

With so many marinas in Fort Lauderdale, how do you choose the best one for your needs? Here are a few factors to consider.

First, consider the location. The marina should be conveniently located and provide easy access to your favorite boating destinations.

Next, consider the facilities and services offered. A good marina should provide essential services such as fueling, boat maintenance, and security. Additional amenities such as a clubhouse, pool, and dining facilities can also enhance your boating experience.

Lastly, consider the community. The best marinas are those that foster a sense of community among boaters. Look for marinas that host events and gatherings, as these can provide opportunities to connect with fellow boaters and learn from their experiences.

A Photo Tour of Lauderdale Boat Club

No guide to Fort Lauderdale Marinas would be complete without a photo tour of the Lauderdale Boat Club. With its stunning waterfront location, state-of-the-art facilities, and vibrant community, the Lauderdale Boat Club is a sight to behold.

As you browse through the photos, you’ll see the immaculate boat slips, the stunning clubhouse, and the panoramic views of the Fort Lauderdale skyline. You’ll also get a glimpse of the vibrant community at the Club, with photos of members participating in regattas, social events, and educational programs.

The photo tour provides a snapshot of what you can expect as a member of the Lauderdale Boat Club. It’s more than just a place to dock your boat; it’s a lifestyle, a community, and a place where lifelong memories are made.

Comparing Fort Lauderdale Marinas: Membership Costs and Benefits

When choosing a marina in Fort Lauderdale, it’s important to compare the membership costs and benefits. Each marina has its own pricing structure and offers a unique set of benefits.

Membership costs at Fort Lauderdale marinas can vary significantly, ranging from a few hundred dollars per month to several thousand dollars per year. These costs typically include access to boat slips or dry storage, use of facilities, and participation in club events.

The benefits of membership can also vary. Some marinas offer basic services such as boat storage and maintenance, while others offer premium amenities such as fitness centers, dining facilities, and concierge services. When comparing marinas, consider both the cost and the value you get in return.

Conclusion: Why Fort Lauderdale is a Boater’s Paradise

In conclusion, Fort Lauderdale is a boater’s paradise. With its network of waterways, diverse boating options, and vibrant boating community, it’s the perfect destination for anyone who enjoys life on the water.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor, a casual boater, or a boating enthusiast looking to connect with like-minded individuals, you’ll find a home in the Fort Lauderdale boating marinas. From the historic Lauderdale Yacht Club to the eco-friendly Club Lauderdale, each marina offers a unique experience that caters to different boating needs.
