There's a new boat set to sail along the Thames this year. But this isn't going to be another one that you can just tap your oyster card to get on or sit and sip a simple pint on.

Instead, it's a sparkling 'superyacht' worth a whopping £25 million. Expected to arrive in London this August, the Dutch-built vessel is set to nab the title of London's largest floating company.

Titled Oceandiva London , it will have space for up to a huge 1,500 standing guests, or 600 seated, to attend all kinds of events including product launches, dinners, receptions and more. Guests will be able to hop on at various London locations, it is set for an official launch in autumn 2022.

At 86-metres long, the three-deck ship is claimed as a CO₂-neutral venue that will be powered by lithium battery packs backed up by mounted solar panels.

When Oceandiva London arrives in the capital, it will find its home moored at the Royal Docks. Then, dependent on the event, you'll be able to get onto the ship at Canary Wharf, Excel, Greenwich, London Bridge or Tower Bridge.

The Dutch-founded company, named Oceandiva, already have ships in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands and this one is set to be stunning.

The designs of how the London ship will look show a matte grey, long vessel, with lots of open outdoor space and a proud Union Jack flag waving from the upper deck.

Oceandiva's website describes the exciting new arrival: "Spanning across three decks, this unique blank canvas venue provides clients the ability to host sensational events on the river, whether static or sailing, in the heart of the City."

£25m events ‘superyacht’ to host dinners and galas on the Thames

super yacht thames

A £25 million events “ superyacht ” with space for up to 1,500 guests is to start hosting dinners, receptions and product launches on the Thames from this autumn.

The Dutch built Oceandiva London will be the capital’s biggest floating venue. The 86 metre long ship will be moored at Royal Docks but guests will be able to embark from berths at London Bridge , Tower Bridge , Canary Wharf , Greenwich and ExCel. It is expected to arrive in London in August.

Greg Lawson, chief executive of operators, events company Smart Group said he had already started taking bookings for events. Hire rates start from a basic of £27,000 a night with capacity for up to 1,500 guests standing and 600 seated.

The three deck ship will be powered by lithium battery packs backed up by mounted solar panels to keep C02 emissions to a minimum.

Mr Lawson said: “Oceandiva is leading the way to a net zero future for the events industry. The project is the first of its kind in the world and where better to launch it than the world-beating city of London.

“Today is the culmination of six years of planning. The journey started with an ambition to create a multi-purpose event venue on the Thames – and after listening to stakeholders reflecting and adapting to the challenges of the modern era, sustainability needs to be at the core of everything that we do.”

Tracey Halliwell, director of tourism, conventions and major events, at the Mayor’s promotion agency London & Partners, said: “Meeting planners are always looking for something new, unique, unusual - and even more so, they’re looking for something green. Our hope is that Oceandiva should tick all of those boxes.”

Oceandiva, founded by Durch entrepreneur Edwin Petersen in 2003, already has ships operating in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium but this will be the first in the UK.

How guest reviews work

Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.

You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.

We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.

Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.

Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):

  • Politically sensitive comments
  • Promotional content
  • Illegal activities
  • Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
  • Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
  • Spam and fake content
  • Animal cruelty
  • Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
  • Any violation of our review guidelines.

To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.

An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.

When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).

We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Jerry Jones' yacht Bravo Eugenia on the water

109m superyacht Bravo Eugenia arrives in London

The 109-metre Oceanco superyacht Bravo Eugenia has arrived in London and berthed at Butler's Wharf Pier in Tower Bridge. According to BOATPro , the yacht began her journey to the UK capital when she departed from Lisbon approximately two weeks ago, which included a stopover in Rotterdam, the Netherlands last week.

Bravo Eugenia is famously owned by American businessman Jerry Jones, who also owns the American football team, Dallas Cowboys. Delivered in 2018, the motor yacht is christened after his wife, Eugenia Jones.

At 109 metres, Bravo Eugenia sits in the same size category as Lady Jorgia , Kaos and the newly delivered Renaissance (though the yacht doesn't quite qualify for the top 25 largest yachts in the world ).

The superyacht first hit the water in November 2018 sporting a slender, low-profile designed by Nuvolari Lenard . Jerry Jones has the inside of his yacht firmly shielded from the public eye, with interior photos hard to come by. But with a 16-metre beam to play with and British studio Reymond Langton Design at the helm, Bravo Eugenia 's interiors are surely impressive. Naval architecture is owed to   Lateral Naval Architects .

Oceanco described Bravo Eugenia as "a prime example of [our] new wave of forward-thinking yachts”, being highly efficient in spite of her impressive length. Powered by a hybrid propulsion system, she can run on a "quiet electric mode" that allows her to consume 30 per cent less fuel than other yachts in her size class.

Bravo Eugenia is one of the largest yachts to visit London in recent times – her last sighting on the Thames was in January 2022.

Hydrogen powered propulsion is coming to the Thames

How decarbonising a london icon may outline a template for the superyacht sector to hit its targets….

Image for article Hydrogen powered propulsion is coming to the Thames

SuperyachtNews Speaks exclusively with Ivo Veldhuis, technical manager of Mayfair Marine, as the project picks up speed after securing funding from the UK Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition, and as Veldhuis explains:

'It's not about designing a boat, it's about designing a complete transport system'

The Uber Boat by Thames Clippers fleet is an iconic part of the London cityscape. Its high-speed catamarans slice between stops and under bridges year-round. But there is a change imminent. The Clean Maritime Act states that as of 2025: 'All new vessels being ordered for use in UK waters are being designed with zero-emission propulsion capability.' As the industry strives for a sustainable future, this project and its protagonists link to the superyacht industry and may provide a template for the marine sector to reach its decarbonisation targets.

With a current fleet of 21 running on various conventional diesel propulsion systems and capable of speeds up to 30 Knots, the fuel consumption of the Uber Boat by Thames Clippers vessels is in the millions of litres per year; the next generation of the Thames fleet will need a radical change. And, it is hoped, hydrogen will provide an emissions-free platform for the next generation of Uber Boat by Thames Clippers to handle an expected doubling of passenger numbers by 2030, increasing from four to eight million per year in this time.

The first step in this change is a feasibility study. Mayfair Marine, working with DNV for regulatory support and One2three naval architects, will present 12 parametric concepts in 2022 that will balance the benefits and drawbacks of various configurations of three forms of hydrogen storage; Cryogenic, Pressurised and Methanol. Each has its own specific set of design considerations and, crucially, differing infrastructure networks to support its use, a hurdle that is often seen as restricting the broad application of hydrogen fuel cells in the superyacht industry.

As Veldhuis explains, it's not as simple as just buying a suitable vessel. "My feeling is, when presenting a proposal for something like this, you have to convey why you want to be a zero-emission company and what it means to you. It's easy to say, 'Ok, we are going to buy a zero-emission vessel'. But if you approach a shipyard like this, sure, they will build one for you, but it will be the vessel that they think you need, that is not good enough to make a zero-emission system like this work."

The complexities of the Thames showcases the layered issues that the project will have to consider. With draft restrictions come weight considerations, and as in any hydrogen fuel cell system, there will still be significant battery banks to act as a capacitor for acceleration and sudden changes in load. And, as many naval architects are grappling with in their quest for zero-emission yachts, these batteries are very heavy. Support from a forward-thinking classification society will be necessary, as Veldhuis anticipates, "DNV being obviously one of the foremost when it comes to hydrogen and fuel cells which helps because we want to push the technical envelope on this project."

Then there is the issue of hydrogen supply and transfer. As yet ill-defined by regulators, the guidance will need to keep pace. Veldhuis and his team see the best way to get results is with a combined approach. As we speak, it becomes clear that Veldhuis does not see this as simply a case of designing a high-speed passenger transport vessel. "The way we have treated this is from a complete transport system perspective, of which the boat is just one part. The fuel infrastructure, awareness of where the hydrogen is coming from, the passenger journey, all of these factors together make up the complete transport system." As Veldhuis clarifies, a system only works when complete. If a certain storage system for hydrogen is identified as being preferred through the feasibility study, then the network to support it can be built around that. Waiting for the hydrogen supply and then building a vessel to match is reactionary.

super yacht thames

The first iteration of a zero-emission Uber Boat by Thames Clipper, once on the water, will feedback into the system a detailed stream of position and performance data that will guide the design modifications on the next, to optimise the system and increase the efficiency. Not only because of the environmental considerations but because, as Veldhuis reminds me, it is a business and must operate as such. Hydrogen remains at least as expensive, if not slightly more than diesel, and the consumer's enthusiasm for green transport will be tested if the price increases drastically.

The broader implications for the superyacht industry are manifold. While some early adopters of hydrogen technologies have been promising, it is hard to imagine it as a systematic approach. This project is developing as a case study for the superyacht industry's adoption of alternative fuels. As Veldhuis highlights, this has to be tackled as a collective issue. "The redesigning of the system is ambitious, and this is where the superyacht industry can take reference. The superyacht industry needs more system thinking. People are saying, 'If the marinas don't sell hydrogen, why I should build one?' Well, why don't owners group together to build the hydrogen infrastructure and then build their yachts?"

The operational profile of these high-speed vessels is vastly different to the typical superyacht; the water jet is not the most efficient propulsion system for most superyachts, for example. However, the concept of developing and presenting a systemwide approach, re-evaluating the fundamentals of design in the name of efficiency, and front footing the hydrogen supply network may be a pivotal step to accelerate the transition to an emissions-free future for the superyacht industry.

This Sleek 262-Foot Superyacht Has a Jacuzzi With Panoramic Views of the Ocean

Why settle for only an infinity pool when you can have a panoramic Jacuzzi, too? Enrico Gobbi's Team for Design just combined both splashy features into one striking superyacht concept.

Part of Oceanco's Simply Custom series, the 262-foot Silver Ocean was inspired by aviation and automotive design. To that end, the vessel pairs sleek lines with dynamic elements to make it seem as if it is moving even when it is at the dock.

"Silver Ocean has an elusive look, with the overhangs in particular enhancing this perception," Gobbi said in a statement. "The profile features three character lines that emerged from our first concept sketches and which became ‘slits' of light that characterize Silver Ocean at anchor."

The newcomer features sprawling outdoor spaces, with the large aft decks free of any clunky structural elements that might spoil the view or interrupt the flow. Similarly, the pool on the main deck sits flush with a glass bulwark to ensure a clear view of the ocean. Gobbi says it "feels like swimming in the sea." The lower deck offers more glitzy amenities still, with the beach club offering a panoramic Jacuzzi, a central lounge, and a gym.

As for the interior, Simply Custom yachts range in volume from approximately 2,500 to 2,700 GT. The vessels typically have an owner's suite on the upper deck and six guest cabins on the main deck. (The layout can be further customized to the owner, of course.) Gobbi says the owner's suite on Silver Ocean has a private terrace with a pool and a fluid stairway leading to a helipad on the bow.

In terms of performance, Simply Customs sport highly efficient hulls by Lateral Naval Architects and hybrid diesel-electric propulsion systems that are capable of running on low-carbon biofuels. Silver Ocean is expected to have a top speed of 16.5 knots and cruising speed of between 14 and 15 knots. She will also be capable of covering 5,000 nautical miles when traveling at 12 to 14 knots.

Announced at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show last October, the Simply Custom series includes 17 vessels that have been customized by different designers. Oceanco has revealed yachts designed by Espen Øino, H2 Yacht Design , Hot Lab , and Nuvolari Lenard , with more concepts to come over the following weeks.

Who knows, we could get a Simply Custom with an infinity plunge pool next.
